• SP2-1503: Unable to initialize Oracle call interface

Hello All,
I have installed Oracle 10g R1 on my new HP laptop with OS as Windows 7 and the installation was successful.
But, unfortunately while trying to connect to the DB with the sqlplus /nolog command, the below error is re- occuring
SP2-1503: Unable to initialize Oracle call interface
SP2-0152: ORACLE may not be functioning properly.
Please, let me know if this is an oracle bug and suggest me if i need to install an upgrade patch.
Regards,
Oracle

Hi.. from oracle metalink
Oracle Database releases "9iR2 (9.2.0.x), 10gR1 (10.1.0.x), 10gR2 (10.2.0.x) and 11gR1 (11.1.0.x)" are not Certified/Supported to install/run on Microsoft Windows 7.
"Microsoft Windows 7" certification will begin with "Oracle Database 11gR2 (11.2.0.x)". That means, Oracle Database 11gR2 will be the first Oracle Database product certified/supported to install/run on "Microsoft Windows 7".

• Trying to run SQLPlus: Unable to initialize Oracle call interface (again)

Dear all
I am trying to install Oracle Instant Client on my powerpc-32bit running Linux. I just obtained these packages:
instantclient-basic-linuxppc32-10.2.0.2-20060327.zip
instantclient-sqlplus-linuxppc32-10.2.0.2-20060327.zip
According to the document <http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14357/ape.htm> these two are enough for me to use.
I also followed the instruction on the document, by:
1. Extract everything to /usr/local/instantclient_10_2/
/usr/local:$ unzip instantclient-basic-linuxppc32-10.2.0.2-20060327.zip
/usr/local:$ unzip instantclient-sqlplus-linuxppc32-10.2.0.2-20060327.zip
2. export variables:
$ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/instantclient_10_2/
$ export SQLPATH=/usr/local/instantclient_10_2/
$ export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8
$ export PATH=/usr/local/instantclient_10_2:$PATH
($LD_LIBRARY_PATH and $SQLPATH was empty before I do the above.)
(I didn't set $ORACLE_HOME because the document didn't require me to do so when I install sqlplus/oracle-client-basic from zip files. However I do tried to set it, doesn't help either.)
3. run:
$ sqlplus jxpado/[email protected]/XEXDB
SP2-1503: Unable to initialize Oracle call interface
SP2-0152: ORACLE may not be functioning properly
I looked up causes of SP2-1503:
Check that the Oracle environment or registry entries are consistent and correct.Yes. Environment is correct (only 3 variables);
If using the SQL*Plus Instant Client make sure the SQL*Plus
and Oracle libraries are from the same release. Yes, as you can tell from package zip file names.
Make sure you have read access to the libraries.True. I am very sure I have read access to all files there.
So what can I do here? I tried to follow instructions as clear / complete as possible.
I am sure sqlplus didn't even try to connect to the server at gtz.ods.org because I put a network traffic listener there to monitor access to the server.

Unfortunately there's a bunch of possible reasons for this error combination. I recommend you search metalink for SP2-1503 to get a list.

• Need suggestion for a topic in Oracle Call Interface

Dear All,
I am kiran working as a TSE for EAI project.
I need a small clarification with respect to Oracle Call Interface.
My problem is as follows:
"I am doing a delete transaction in my application and not committing it, but when my program is killed externally, I observed that the transactions are being committed.
I thought it is a very strange behavior, as an aborted transaction should be rolled back.
But my PL told me that it the behavior OCI and got nothing to do with our application."
Now My question is, whether can we stop/(switch off) that auto commit option for OCI( Oracle Call Interface.
Awaiting for an earlier response.
Any kind of help is highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Kiran

Here is some information from Oracle's documentation (Oracle Call Interface Programmer's Guide.
Commit or Rollback
An application commits changes to the database by calling OCITransCommit(). This call uses a service context as one of its parameters. The transaction is associated with the service context whose changes are committed. This transaction can be explicitly created by the application or implicitly created when the application modifies the database.
Note:
Using the OCI_COMMIT_ON_SUCCESS mode of the OCIExecute() call, the application can selectively commit transactions at the end of each statement execution, saving an extra round trip.
To roll back a transaction, use the OCITransRollback() call.
If an application disconnects from Oracle in some way other than a normal logoff, such as losing a network connection, and OCITransCommit() has not been called, all active transactions are rolled back automatically.

• Oracle Call Interface Code (OCI)

Does anyone know a good source of example code or tutorials for OCI (Oracle 8i)?
(Have already looked at the demo code and the docs, which aren't overly helpful.)

quit wasting your time with the oci
& check this out

c++ wrapper for the oci thats really easy
to use with excellent examples

• Oracle Call Interface

Hi,
I didn't find the OCI lib on the Oracle 8.0.5/Linux cdrom. does
anybody know if Oracle has planed to port it on this plateform?
Thanks
Raphal
null

If the original SQL statement did not require a bind it
should not require a bind when moving to OCI 9i
(this is a property of the statement and not
of the OCI version).
There should be no issues with reusing a statement
handle after allocation. I think that they are reusable
as long as you do StmtPrepare and any necessary
define/bind for any new statements, i.e.:
OCIHandleAlloc (stmthp, ... OCI_HTYPE_STMT);
OCIStmtPrepare (stmthp, sqlstmt1,...);
/* optional bind/defines */
OCIStmtExec (stmthp, ...);
OCIStmtPrepare (stmthp, sqlstmt2,...);
/* optional bind/defines */
OCIStmtExec (stmthp, ...);
As for the kghalo error, you may want to confirm that
the stmtp is being allocated correctly, with
OCIHandleAlloc. If this doesn't fix your problem,
it might be helpful to post a code snippet here.

• Oracle ODBC - Internal Error - unable to initialize NLS during driver load

I'm having some trouble with my ODBC connections which I hope someone can please help me with!
About 6 weeks ago all was working as normal.
As far as I know there have been no updates to the ORacle DB, the Windows XP operating system or the ODBC Drivers.
Today when I opened access and visual case 2 to connect to Oracle I was at first greeted with a:
unable to connect SQLState=IM004 SQL_HANDLE_ENV
error. ODBC also kept crashing.
I restarted the computer and was confronted with a different error:
odbc SQLSTate 08004 ORA 12154 TNS could not resolve the connect identifier specified
I was able to fix this error by setting the environment variable TNS_ADMIN in windows xp environment variables. I'm extremely confused about how this happened though as it was working and I don't think anything has changed.
I was then able to connect to the database via Microsoft Access but when I opened Visual Case 2 and tried to make an update, I was confronted with the following error:
Oracle ODBC Driver - internal error - unable to initialize NLS during driver load
I looked in the registry at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\KEY_OraClient10g_home1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\KEY_OraClient10g_home2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Oracle\KEY_OraDb10g_home1
and NLS_LANG was set to "AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252" in all 3 places.
(Though KEY_OraClient10g_home2 only had 4 entries as opposed to KEY_OraClient10g_home1's 13 entries)...
Since I made those changes I can no longer connect through Access.
I just receive a ODBC - connection to 'xxx' failed
Advice greatly appreciated!!!!
Edited by: user11150264 on Aug 25, 2009 10:21 PM

Actually it sort of does...
I switched the ODBC connection to use instant client and now it's all working again.
The biggest mystery is what changed to make it suddenly stop working the old way...

• Unable to access Oracle XE Apex Interface

Hello,
I've recently installed Oracle XE on Ubuntu (package oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb), however I am unable to access the web interface for Apex. If I use Firefox or Opera, it cannot recognize the file it's trying to access, but reports it as an application/octet-stream file and asks me how to open it or to save it to disk. If I use IE7, it simply displays a few unknown characters (boxes).
I had the entirety of Oracle XE installed and working prior to rebuilding the server, which is when this problem began happening, but I shouldn't have changed anything to cause a problem like this.
If anyone can shed some light on this, I would greatly appreciate it, since I've been unsuccessful at finding anything out about this problem.
Thanks,
Jeff

This is a bit old but I've faced the issue and found a (temporary?) solution.
The problem is caused by a syntax error of the generated HTML on the Change Password page. The APEX page generation code somehow truncated a closing '>' in a tag. By adding a few space, this page generated correctly. However, it seems very likely that the problem will also occur for other pages.
In file builder/f4350.sql, line 5668, change
p_plug_source=> s,
to
p_plug_source=> s || ' ',
Then reload the page... I used 'sys as sysdba' and not sure this is the best option. Anyway the page showed afterwards.

• Unable to initialize SCI Page.

I've written a ton of crawlers and have never come across this issue before.
I'm in the process of implementing a java crawler however when Im trying to create the content source I recieve the following in PTSpy.
Calling Initialize method for SCI editor.....
Initialize method failed.
org.xml.sax.SAXException: Bad types (class java.lang.String -> class com.plumtree.remote.sci.TypeNamespace)
To me this seems like a simply Type Mismatch however its provided by the portal? When I examined to SOAP it seems like the portal is indeed
providing a string for the TypeNamespace parameter.
As expected in the IAdminEditor Interface the stub is as follows public void initialize(String locale, TypeNamespace namesp, NamedValueMap parentInfo)+
And below is what's passed during the calling of the initialize() method.
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
<SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
<SOAP-ENV:Body>
<ns1:Initialize SOAP-ENV:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" xmlns:ns1="urn:plumtree-com:XUIService">
<Locale xsi:type="xsd:string">en-US</Locale>
<Namespace xsi:type="xsd:string">plumtree-com:cws:crawl</Namespace>
<ParentInfo ns2:arrayType="ns3:NamedValue[0]" xmlns:ns2="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" xmlns:ns3="http://www.plumtree.com/xmlschemas/xui/" xsi:type="ns2:Array"/>
</ns1:Initialize>
</SOAP-ENV:Body>
</SOAP-ENV:Envelope>
Has anyone seen this error or know how to fix it?

Is anybody found the solution to fix this error? I guess it must have been resolved by this time. Please post the solution if you have one.
I'm a newbie to BO. I get the same error 'Unable to initialize the page. Verify that the MDAS server is running and that the database client software has been installed on the MDAS server, and try again."
This error I got when I clicked the "New Connection" button on the 'Voyager Connections' screen at CMC. I had gone through all the postings regarding this error. None of them ended with any solution at all. The suggestions inall these postings I tried did not work.
I tried
(1) stopping and restarting SIA and MDAS and enabling all servers.
(2) Verified that the database client software 'Microsoft Analysis Services and the Analysis database' were installed. Next I stopped and restarted MS Analysis Server.
This did not work. I have a system Windows 7 Home Edition, and BO XI Enterprise 3.1. Checked the License for Voyager. It is valid and unexpired. Machine is 64 bit Windows 7 Home laptop. But all of my other 32 bits programs works fine on this machine safely.
One more thing this error did not arise in Windows Server 2003 desktop. Voyager and connections works fine in Windows server 2003.
Any help appreciated. Thanks.
