P67A-GD65 (B3) Dead OC Genie

Hi i have a big problem with my board after taking the OC Genie enable i disable it by the Control Center version 2.2005 which asked me to reboot to apply the changes I did and after that gave no video output. I test with other processor, rams and vga but i have the same result, i reset bios and cmos and clean all slots but dont see video output.

I have a problem similar today after reboot my 890 board , hard reset not working, I even change the PSU,  at one time I clear the bios using the jumper and I forgot to close the switch on the PSU, guess what it reboot after.

System was running fine.  Added 2 more sticks of memory and replaced the GTX 285 with a EVGA SuperClocked GTX570.  Had no problems for a week.
Last night I powered down the system, hit the OC Genie button (just because you can, doesn't mean you should    .)  When I started up the system, the fan on the GPU went and stayed full bore, nothing was displayed.  Also, no power to the keyboard or USB mouse.  The DVD drive had a disk in it and that started up.  I got one long beep and two short beeps.  I powered down, pressed the OC Genie button again and started it back up with the same results.  I tried swapping the old GTX 285 back in but got the same results.  I switched the slot of the GPU and it didn't help. I also tried removing two of the memory sticks, unplugging all USB devices, etc.  The CPU, case, power supply and GPU fans are spinning.  Any advice on how I should proceed?

Did you do a clear cmos?

  • MSI p67a-gd65 dead after last bios update 4.0

I think you failed at disconnect the power while in loop.
Because of was the same as me, infinite loop like 4~5 times and after continued to install.
Here for an explanation look at page 4 > http://event.msi.com/mb/22nm/Bios_ME7_to%20_ME8_update_SOP_EN.pdf
If you didnt seen this part, failed and.... I dont know what can you do at this point.
in fact the problem was after this last update mentioned on page 4 of SOP guide that you linked and that i was read ... all ... but what is strange is that i have no display error during all update .. alla goes fine ...after last reboot  ... dead.
someone can tell us what's happened? i'm not newbie about this procedures of bios update ...without any problem.

  • P67A GD65, OC genie 2 button in Control Center, doesn't boot anymore

    - OC Genie 2 in motherboard pressed
    - Yesterday in Windows 7 x64, I clicked the OC genie button in control center, I click on no reboot, I click again on the oc genie button (to leave it as it was), no reboot. All OK. Today PC can't boot anymore: fans on, 6 phases leds on, 6 phases GTX leds on, no USB, no video...
What I can do, or did I broke the motherboard with two mouse clicks?

do >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed
    also what psu you use?

  • P67A-GD65 (B3) OC Genie II & power requirement

    Hello,
I just assembled my PC with the following components:
    Motherboard: P67A-GD65 (B3)
    CPU:  Intel Core i7 2600k
    CPU Fan: CoolMaster V8 (180W)
    RAM: G.Skil F3-17000CL9D (4GBx2)
GPUs: Palit GTX 560Ti (x2, no SLI)
    SSD: Crucial C300 (64GB)
    Hard Drive: WD 1002FAEX (1TB)
    Optical Drive: Lite-on BR Burner
Case: Corsair 650D with stock case fans
    PSU: Corsair TX750W
    OS: Win 7 Professional 64bit
While it works fine with the normal setting, it won't boot if OC Genie II is turned on.
Do I need more power or are there any specific settings I need to mess with?
    Thanks in advance

When you mention "won't boot", does it mean that you can't even access BIOS after enabling OC Genie II?
Yes, LED on the board flashes a couple of times and shut down & reboot by itself.
    They repeat this cycle forever.

  • (P67A-GD65) BIOS update worked but now ACPI dead?

Hi guys, anyone seen this before?
    P67A-GD65(b3) + i5 2500K + G Skill Ripjaws 1600 + MSI GTX560  (all about 1 week old)
Did a successful BIOS update to 1.B (which is what the AU msi site listed as latest BIOS, I now realise that 1.C is out).
Everything seems fine in BIOS but Win7 hangs at "Starting Windows" (regular boot, repair boot, even the install setup boot from disc).
Booting from a Linux cd it hangs at the ACPI part.
System was perfectly stable prior to this (but my mouse didn't work in BIOS and XMP timings didn't seem to be applied, hence the update).
BIOS update was done using forum USB tool. CMOS has definitely been cleared.
Any suggestions? I am probably going to try updating to BIOS 1.C but since I don't have a working PC now (posting this from our iMac) I will have to go use a friend's PC to run the USB tool and create the BIOS update stick.
    Thanks

For a short term test, raise DRAM V. manually to the maximum 1.65v's, set CPU V-Droop to low, phase control from SVID to APS.
I did try a raised DRAM V at one point (to no success), but didn't touch phase control so could try that too.
I have found one single way to make it load windows - by flashing 1.C directly from the "M-flash" page of the BIOS itself
The on the reset directly following the update it will then boot windows correctly.
This first happened this afternoon and I rejoiced and then shutdown to reconnect all the devices that had been unplugged during diagnosis ... then when I went to boot up again ... hung ... again
Tried to get all scientific by trying voltage settings and unplugging case fans, etc ... nothing work so I gave up, did something (theoretically) foolish  and tried the M-flash page in BIOS again. Re-flashed v1.C again and once again it booted into windows
Starting to think along the lines of RMA here  ... this can't be normal.

  • P67A-GD65 BIOS Recovery/Reflash...is it even possible?

Had a weird issue take out my P67A-GD65 last week so I replaced it with a Z77A-GD65. However, I'd like to see if it's possible to recover/reflash the corrupted BIOS on the dead board before I break the board up and make keychain fobs from the shiny bits.
    Background:
BIOS flash process went fine. Seemingly so, anyway. After rebooting, however, it's stuck in a loop and never makes it to the POST/BIOS screen. It powers on for about 4-5 seconds, then off, then back on, then off again, repeat Ad nauseam

    If and when a UEFI/BIOS flash is required, use the forum's USB method;
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=108079.0
In the BIOS Section of the forum, you will find Beta's along with some full releases for some mainboards in the Beta threads.
If you do not intend to install an Ivy CPU, it is strongly recommended to only install Sandy UEFI/BIOS's.
If lucky, remove the PSU power cord, remove all but one RAM stick that is placed in the primary DIMM slot, remove the battery for awhile, clear CMOS, hope it will POST and/or boot. If it won't, a pc shop with an SPI flash programming device can restore it for you. Otherwise, an MSI Service Center can do it.
Thanks for the information. I'm betting it's likely bricked permanently, so I'll probably just toss it.

installed everything into my case and go to boot into the UEFI and nothing !
i press the power switch, everything starts fine and the fans spin up and the LED's on the board are fine, waits 5 secs then it shuts itself off and tries the exact same process again. it keeps doing this until i cut the power !
i've checked the 24pin etc, KB & mouse r fine, 2 different sets off RAM in every slot, cleared CMOS (i think).
seems like a very common problem with this board after a bit of googling !!

  • MSI P67A-GD65 killed my USB drives

I recently bought MSI P67A-GD65 and I am having a weird problem: I plugged my seagate usb drive and corsair voyager gt usb flash memory stick into usb 3 port on the motherboard and the stopped working (memory stick is dead and smells burned) and the drive is not recognized as proper usb device anymore - result both of them dead. As I recently used these usb devices only with my computer and a old laptop it looks pretty bad for msi motherboard.
I have a power adapter with shortcut safety and a descent PSU chieftech GPS 650GB, I do not overclock, when I upgraded my PC I replaced motherboard, cpu, memory and graphic card the other components are the same (PSU etc) and I never had the same problem before
    No the questions:
    1. Did anyone else have the same problem?
    2. How can I diagnose it, I am going to replace my usb drives, but how can I be sure I can use them with my PC?
    3. If it is a msi's fault how can I get reimbursted for my damaged property?

Why don't you provide the information asked for? So far all you have provided is model of motherboard and other information is so vague it's just about useless.
Again read the >> Posting Guide << and provide required information.

  • P67A-GD65 bios?

    Hi,
On the product page i see 1.6 as the latest? but even this goes to a broken link?
Where is everyone getting other bios updates from? and are they stable?
    Thanks!

i bought a pre overclocked bundle with the below spec....with default settings i can install windows with a raid config...no sweat.
If i try OC genie(at 4.2ghz) i can get into windows fine...but 10 minutes into black ops and it blue screens.
with the OC profile provided by overclockers(4.6ghz) i can even boot into windows...it seems to struggle to recognize my raid config. i just get "machine check error" or a blinking cursor...sometimes it goes to shell command prompt.
each time i change the OC settings....i make sure raid is reselected and my boot options are reselected.....1/ HD 2/dvd.
ive been chatting with overclockers for a week now...and they seem to keep recommending the same things....then suggest trying a different drive setup. Which im confused by...i dont see the point in trying with IDE or AHCI....if ultimatly im aiming for raid 0 config??
    I'm totally lost:(
    ...oh!!! thanks for the responses!!
...also! i cant update bios from 1.4 at mo...as itll invalidate my warranty.

I've never seen a "Forum" that wants new topics for the exact same problems (spreading potential fixes for the same issue all over the place instead of in one thread), but apparently if I post to another topic from someone with identical problems (the one right below this one with the same issue) I'm called a thread hijacker.
Seems like a ton of people are having these issues with lockups with the P67A-GD65
My setup - all new components
    P67A-GD65
    I7 2600k SandyBridge 3.4Ghz
    G.SKILL F3-14900CL9D-8GBXL  (2 x 4GB sticks in slot 1 and 3)
    Nvidia GeForce GTX 460
two WD Black sata III 1TB drives in a RAID0 in sata ports 1 and 2  (SATA 6Gb)
two WD Green sata II 1TB drives in a RAID0 in sata ports 3 and 4  (SATA 3Gb)
one WD Black sata III 1TB drive in sata port 5 (system resides on this non raid drive)
Bluray drives in sata ports 6 and 7
Corsair 750W 80 PLUS Power supply
Then go to another machine and RDP to it, no problems.  Wait about an hour, RDP and you get "Welcome" and it just hangs.
So if I go to the console, it tells me someone else is trying to login, but no drive activity at all, and won't let me do anything and I have to hard power off.
If I'm at the machine, just doing different "normal" things, browser windows lockup, applications lockup, all requiring a hard shutdown by the button since I can't select the option to reboot normally.  No BSOD's, no OC, the OC Genie is OFF
My memory is even certified for this damn board on bios 1.B which I have updated to.  But in "auto"  doesn't even get the memory timings correct.
    http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=378
I'm Going nutz trying to figure out what the f--k is going on.  I even ran the on board memory test and it passed.
I'm thinking that quality control on this production line is crap.  I've seen a ton of complaints of BSOD's, rebot loops, and random lockups which can be reproduced easily.
MSI?  Are you going to fix this!!!
How about posting the serial numbers of the bad run from manufacturing so users can see if they have a bad board?  I've been building systems for 15 years and I've never had so much trouble with a board.
Has anyone had a success story that wasn't from an RMA?  I haven't found a post where a user had these issues and made a few bios changes and they came back with "great, that fixed it".
    Thanks

I've heard that kind of thing a million times.  Be that as it may, it does not really tell us anything about the actual cause of the problem. Furthermore, if you are so sure it is the board, why didn't you simply send it back/RMA it/have it exchanged after you have ruled all other explanations out systematically?

There are thousands of freeze issues on all different hardware configurations.  However, more important than the symptoms are the precise hardware configuration the freezes occur in and the actual causes for the common symptom.  Once the causes are truly found out it makes sense to compare similar issues.  It should not be done, however, because of a common symptom.  And that is exactly why your problem (and any other problem that is just a symptom at first) deserves its own, seperate thread.

Please reduce the complexity of your system to the most basic configuration needed to run your operating system.  Use one stick of RAM only, make sure it is set to run at a frequency that does not exceed the specifications of the processor's memory controller (DDR3-1333 max.!).  Unplug all the hard drives, optical drives, SSDs, card readers, add-on cards, USB devices etc. that are not needed to work with the operating system (you need just mouse, keyboard, video card, processor, one stick of RAM).
Once you have reduced the system complexity and please unplug your PSU from A/C power, >>Clear CMOS<< and then load "Optimized Defaults" in UEFI Setup.  Then apply your custom settings (e.g. RAID Mode settings  & Memory Speed = DDR3-1333).
    Then retest.
In case the freezes still occur, then please disable all CPU related power saving settings in UEFI Setup (C1E, C-States, EIST) and retest.  Also, try if setting the phase control mode from "APS" to "Intel SVID" mode.

  • P67A-GD65 questions

Hi, I have this motherboard and I have some questions. First off, this is my second P67A-GD65. I managed to broke both BIOS with bad flashes and left with a dead mb. Fortunately the store where I bought the mb accepted to switch mine with another repaired one even if their guarantee didn't covered it. After I received the new one, I decided to stop trying to upgrade it. But some time after that I wanted to build a RAID 0 and it was recommended to upgrade the BIOS. So I did it, the exact same procedure as the first time, just that this time it worked.
But I don't know if its me or this BIOS have bugs. I think I used a beta version (4.4B3 says control center). For example, I don't have any beep when turning on the PC. At first I thought it was my case, probably a broken speaker. But a month ago I bought a new case and I made sure to plug in the speaker. Still no beep. Its not like it mathers me, but I think this is not right. Front-panel usb can't boot USB sticks, I don't know if this is a configuration failure of this BIOS. I remember I could boot from the front USB with my old BIOS.
So here I am, again like before, I don't feel comfortable with re-flashing my bios (if thats whats failing) because I don't know why I bricked my mb the first time and I don't know why I didn't brick the new one after. I just don't understand the way to flash or something. This is not my first time flashing things but for some reason I'm struggling with this mb.

It's meant to be like that. modernb boards with current bios only beep in case of problems. Most considered the starting beep annoying and it got removed (as it is useless anyway).

If back panel booting usb works it is no config problem. Most likely an issue with the case. Try the other front panel USB headers on the board too.

4.4B3 is indeed the latest beta bios or to be correct the last bios there ever will be for that board. The last official is 4.3.
If you want to downgrade to it:
1.) >>Use the MSI HQ Forum USB flasher<<
A.) Download the attached archive and place it on your desktop. Do not decompress.
B.) Download and install the Forum flash tool.
C.) Insert your FAT32 formatted usb stick.
D.) Make sure the legacy USB is enabled.
E.) Start the forum flash tool and select option 1. Then point the tool at the compressed archive we downloaded earlier. Then to your USB Flash Drive.
F.) Boot to the USB and follow the directions. MEMTEST is included with the forum flash tool and it is recommended to run this prior to any flash.
2.) Once the flash is complete, you must download and install the latest ME drivers:

  • P67A GD65 B3 - issues

    Hi everyone
I have some isses with my new p67a-gd65:
Q1. When booting before showing the intel raid utility I hear 1long and 3or4 short beeps. Accorind to google those 3 short beeps should mean that there's a problem with the upper memory. I have F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2 (2x4GB) and the memory is supported by this mobo according to the gskills website. Furthermore I ran the memtest86+ (v4.20) a week ago and this morning (for about 90mins) and no errors turned out. The system/memory hasn't been overclocked and I'm using the 1f8 bios.
If the beeps are 4short this should mean that the system timer is dead. I cannot see any issues when running win7 or fedora linux. Everything looks ok. Should I be concerned???
I noticed the beeps this morning because it turned out I've used the wrong pins for the beeper (JFP2) for the mobo. That's why I haven't heard them before (if there were any).
Should I be concered for those beeps?
Q2. In the "green" section there are 2 options to choose from: APS and Intel SVID XXXX. When I choose APS all 6 phase leds are on all the time. As I said before the system hasn't been overclocked (i5-2500k). Even in idle (after 15 min) I still have a solid light from all 6 leds.
If I choose Intel SVID instead of APS after the system fully boots it shows 1 led with steady light, the following 4 are lit but not as intensive as the first one, and the last led is blinking. So I still have all of them on. I have enabled the c1e state and the other c states and chosen "no limit" for the c-states.
once again: Should I be concerned about this? Why don't those led turn off et least in idle???
Q3: I'm using an raid0 for my data and therefore have enabled the intel-raid. As a result when booting I have to wait about 7 sec starring in front of the "intel raid-rom bla-a-a-a". Do you know how I can hide the this intel-blaaaaa and speed up the boot process?
otherwise the system looks rock solid but those isses drive me crazy!

  • P67A-GD65 random shut-down

    First thing's first, the specs:
    MB: P67A-GD65 (MS-7681)
    CPU: Intel Core i7-2600k
    RAM: DIMM1-3 Corsair dual-channel XMS memory 1.5V  CMX4GX3M2B1600C9
    DIMM2-4 Corsair dual-channel Vengeance memory 1.5V  CMZ4GX3M2A1600C9
    HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3  - HD103SJ
    BIOS version: 4.3
VGA: ASUS GTX 560Ti Direct CUII Top
    PSU: Xilence Redwing 750W (modular)
The issue is quite simple really:  At random times the computer shuts down without a warning - no error prompt or BSOD or anything else; and then it reboots. Scrolling often through videos and using google chrome browser in conjunction with videogames makes it more likely to shut down suddenly.
The hard-drive errorcheck came up with nothing and memory and CPU stress tests were all clear. My main suspect is the memory but the problem re-occurs at random times. Another issue is the fact that I can't set the memory in X.M.P. profile (the option is simply greyed out when all 4 X.M.P. capable sticks are in the MB.  It becomes available when only 2 slots are populated by either of the memory kits). If I link the timings and set the option to 1600Mhz manually then it resets to the 1333Mhz default on reboot.  Most overclocking options are blocked so I am using OC Genie II. I am not sure what options would work out best for this motherboard (energy-saving, intel turbo boost, enhanced boost etc.).
I need your help and advice.

At random times the computer shuts down without a warning - no error prompt or BSOD or anything else; and then it reboots.
    lastly shutdown or reboot?

  • MSI p67a-GD65 system randomly shutsdown

I'm completely heartbroken about my new build. Everything was running solid for about a month now and I have just started to experience random shutdowns. According to my BIOS, my 2600K is running at stock at around 55 C. I performed a stress test last night using prime95 and the system shut down as well, although speedfan and HWMonitor both only showed an increase from 40-50C to 60-70C. After it shuts down, the system is completely unresponsive and will not start back up until I unplug the system or turn off the power supply, after which it suddenly will start up again. In my opinion, that's an indicator of something as I thought it was completely dead.
I have NO idea what could possibly be causing this issue. It could be heat, it could be my power supply, it could be my motherboard. How do I narrow this down?
    Here's my build:
    G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)
    ADATA S599 AS599S-64GM-C 2.5" 64GB
Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz
    Seasonic SS-850HT 850W ATX12V v2.31,EPS12V
    2x MSI R6970-2PM2D2GD5 Radeon HD 6970 2GB
    MSI P67A-GD65 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67
    COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus

One video card should be at around 200W - 210 W, so 400W for video cards.
    Make that 250W per card + 100 W for the processor, about 50A @12V.

    I do have a 750W power supply.
You mentioned other figures in your component overview:

So, what kind of PSU do you have?

Sounds like a PSU problem then.  Use a different one and/or test with one video card only.
