Package hunting - help needed.

Hello all -
I am new to Solaris and am still trying to get basics down.
My problem seems pretty low level but I have not been able to find out how to do the following....
Lets say there is a utility or some command that I am reading about in the newsgroups. I go to my Solaris box only to find out that I apparently do not have this file installed. How do I find out which package contains this file so I can install it?
For example, I only installed the Core Software Group. No X Windows or GUI crap - just plain old console. Well, one of the first things I wanted to do was determine how, if possible, could I set my console resolution similar to how its done in linux with VESA framebuffer settings passed to kernel at boot (vga=791). I read where people where using kdmconfig for setting resolutions. I thought that this was only for X config but also thought it might do what I want to do. With no X packages installed, no kdmconfig either. So, how would I determine which package contains kdmconfig?
I know that if I have a file installed I can determine which package it belongs to via
pkgchk -l -p <path-to-file>

PS - If someone also can advise on the kernel VESA console setup, that would be awesome as well.

You would have to have some install media or a copy of it on some other media.
Then search the media as you normally would.
find and grep or some other incantation will work.

that coul not find package javax.servletWhat I did not mention... you need to add those JARs in the Classpath explicitly. You will find them in %TOMCAT_HOME%\common\lib. You atleast need to add servlet-api.jar to your Classpath. :)

HELP NEEDED!! (please) CS6

HELP NEEDED! I have been working for 3 days in a "new doc". Of course i have saved several times (control+s)
but i do not remember it asking me about file name or folder. Today my comp crashed and i do not find the file. Just found 2 files (a tmp and one with no extension)
: one with 174 mg and another one with almost 2 gb. Is there any possibility to recover my work? Photoshop did not oppened a thing when i restarted comp

The TMP file is your Scratch Disk file, and cannot be "recovered" to an Image file.
Your second file might be almost anything. Though designed more for video files, both G-Spot and MediaInfo (both free file info utilities), CAN read several Still Image file types, and might help point out what that file (the one with no extension) really is. OTOH, as it could be almost anything, it could be that there is no header info in the file, for either to read.

PS - Before I did much additional work, I would investigate WHY your computer shut down. If you are on a PC, I would go into Event Viewer, at the time of the shutdown, and see if you can track down any warning, or error messages, in both the System and Applications Tabs. I am pretty sure that a Mac has similar, but have not a clue where, or even what it would be called.

I am getting the same message when I try to install the latest version of iTunes, I am running on Windows Vista Home Premium. I have tried so many different things to try to correct this and have now completly unistalled it from my laptop..... Now I have no iTunes what-so-ever on it and still can't install it. I found an older versin of iTunes and it installed without any problems, but I can't access it because my library was created on a newer version! Talk about frustrated..... WE NEED HELP!!!!!

How can I find the exact package that I need, for example, in Ubuntu, I can add launcher in System -> Preferences -> Main Menu, but in Arch, I can not find this Main Menu, I know I need to install something, but don't know where to go?

would help you out. You can also put in part of the name and it will return all the matches. As for a GUI -- you don't get that by default in Arch.
There is a GUI wrapper for pacman called shaman, but iirc, it uses kdelibs and integrates well with KDE. It looks like you are using Gnome, but you can use shaman in Gnome too.

Really stumped: compiling or pkgbuild help needed

Hi, guys... hopefully, this is the correct forum for this. If not, perhaps a moderator will be kind enough to move it.
I'm not really familiar or had any experience with pkgbuilds other than downloading a few from AUR that have worked fine when I tried them, but I'm having one heck of a time trying to build one for my Realtek LAN controller, or by simply compiling the driver for it directly. So, I'm wondering if it is possible to make an Arch pkgbuild for a LAN driver, or does it have to be compiled independently?
The controller uses the RTL8111c chip which doesn't work with the r8169 driver that is already included in the default kernel.

Hope the errors are formatted correctly (it was all scrambled when I opened it with NotePad under WinXP).
Do any of you know what these errors mean, what I'm doing wrong, or what packages might be needed in order to get the driver properly installed?
Can a pkgbuild be created and used for this purpose if I have the downloaded source package already in my pkgbuild directory? I can't download any packages once in Arch (no connection to net) but I can download them under Windows, then carry them over to Arch to complete the driver install so I can have Internet again.
Any help would really be appreciated because Windows XP is driving me nutty.

Package access helper in htc

package access helper is draining my batter in HTC for second time...magically fixed itself after 3 weeks of draining battery in 3 hours. now doing it again. nobody seems to know how to fix it...verizon store and htc clueless. any thoughts? (yes popped battery out, yes did factory reset, yes bought new battery...none of these are the issue)

I definitely understand you need your batter to last longer than what it is right now, let's work on this! Use http://vz.to/1pGkBsA to determine if it's working as it should. Was the factory reset performed without Automatic Restore, meaning your phone is as new(content-wise)?

download the above package. remove everything you have installed originally from the CD, etc. Turn off your internet connection if you have broadband because it will install its own updates through windows updates. Install the above package. Retest your card and I/O bay.
I have used the above pack with an X-FI Xtreme Music OEM from Dell, an X-FI Fatality Pro PCI, and the Titanium. It works great. Afterwards you can update to the latest drivers without problems. If you start, as you already have, with the newest driver, things just dont work quite right in my opinion.

i recently bought?this sound card
i encounter 2 problems which i desperately need help with cause creative isnt giving me a satisfied answer
Firstly,?i cant update to the latest driver.
if i update...everytime i try to press any of the buttons(Game mode, x-fi?CMSS 3D, x-fi crystalizer) on the I/O front panel console.
i seem to lose control of I/O front panel console. i cant control the Main volume,Mic volume or any of my 3 modes using my I/O front panel console,?i can only change them through creative console launcher
secondly,
everytime i try change my recording device to "microphone FP". it keeps jumping back to "microphone" which apparently is the port on the sound card itself.
its kinda stupid to use the mic port on the sound card rather than the I/O front panel port being i paid such a high price for it mainly because of its specs but partially cause it has a I/O front panel.
someone please help me with this problem cause creative technical support hasnt been able to solve my problem
so im trying my luck to see if anyone is out there suffering the same problem as me?would?gladly?share his solution with me?to this problem =)

Expression -puzzling(help needed)

Is there a possibility that my expression fails on the first run trying to load into a column in the table having truncation error,but ultimately runs at the second time(having that column alone empty while populating other columns?).

If I understand correctly, a derived column with expression fails in the first time when execution the package, but it works fine after change the source column to another column that has more length with empty. For example, use the expression (DT_WSTR,4)[column_name]
as the derived column, the original column is nchar(10) with value like ‘abcd’, the later column is nvarchar(50) with value like ‘abcd’.
If in this scenario, the issue you said is possible. Because nchar(10) is Fixed-length Unicode string data, nvarchar(50) is Variable-length Unicode string data. The expression (DT_WSTR,4)[column_name] can cause truncation error when the column with nchar(10)
data type.
If I have something misunderstood, please provide us more information about the issue. If possible, provide us some screenshots about the package design, error message, expression and column information. So that we can make further analysis and help you
out.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.
