Package in JAR file ?

Hi !
If I have created a package called xyz, how do I put that in a JAR file, should the subdirectory xyz be included in the JAR (xyz/class.class...) , or do I put the JAR file in a subdirectory named xyz ?
Mikael

The subdir should be in the jar, not the other way round.
To achieve this, create the jar with "jar -cf newjar.jar xyz" from the parent of xyz-directory.

    How to package other jar files into one jar? How can i get the class in the inner jar file?

    Generally not a good idea. The Java runtime won't be able to load classes from those "inner" jars, you'd have to write your own classloader to do that. It's not a brilliant idea, generally, anyway, since the point of having lots of jars is to keep your application modular. Bundling them all together like that means you have to re-deploy the whole thing to fix, for instance, one small bug in one small library
    If you really want to do this, there's an Eclipse plugin called FatJar, but I urge you to consider whether you really want to do it first.

  • Problem with JSP using bean packaged in jar file

    Hi,
              I am trying to use a java bean in a jsp file. The java bean is packaged
              into a jar file. I am getting class not found compilation error. If the
              bean remains to be a seperated class file, everything work well.
              Does anyone know how I can use bean in a jar file within jsp , i.e. to
              allow the bean to be found during compilation ?
              Thanks,
              Terence.

    Jacek,
              Thanks for replying.
              My JSP's are just files in my document root . However, I found a solution to
              my
              problem. That is to have the jar file defined in my weblogic.class.path. I may
              have missed some files in my original jar file which causes my problem.
              Mayby I should package everything into a web application for deployment. That
              will be my next step.
              Thanks anyway.
              Terence.

  • How to use packages and jar files for applet?

    Hi!
    My applet takes a class say a.class.
    Now this class depends on other classes that are packaged
    in a directory and put separately.
    I want to put this applet on the web.
    So how do I manage the .class files in he package.
    I have tried using jar file format.But I was not able to get it working.
    Can someone please help me?
    Thanks

    Use Archive instead of codebase:
    <APPLET CODE="MyApplet.class" ARCHIVE="MyApplet.jar" WIDTH=400 HEIGHT=300></APPLET>

  • Importing packages from jar file

    Hi all,
    I have a jar file that contain a package . And i set the clathpath with the path of jar file including the jar file name. And when I import the package i have an error that package does not exist. And I don't know why.

    1.) did you spell the path + name of the JAR file correctly?
    2.) Did you spell the package name including capitalization correctly?
    3.) Is the package hierarchie in the JAR the same as the package names?

  • How to use Stylesheets packaged in JAR file

    Hi,
    I would like to package XSL files in a JAR. The stylesheet may import other XSL files. For example:
    <xsl:import href="demos.xsl">
    <xsl:import href="table.xsl">
    where the original stylesheet and the imported stylesheets (demos.xsl and table.xsl) are all located in this package: com.company.xsl
    Is there a way for the transformers to retrieve the files from the JAR?
    Possibly another complication is that this JAR file is loaded at runtime.
    Any suggestions would be of great help. Thanks!

    Thanks that worked.
    However, is it possible to use a relative path? Right now it only works if the absolute path is used:
    <xsl:import href="jar:file:///c:/applications/bin/myjar.jar!/com/company/xsl/table.xsl" />
    It would be nice if this worked instead:
    <xsl:import href="jar:file:///./bin/myjar.jar!/com/company/xsl/table.xsl" />

  • Packaging jar files

    what is the recommeded packaging of jar files
    i.e.
    -by api
    -by functionality
    -by package
    -by subpackage

    Jar files are always packaged by the package structure.
    The jar files must have classes in directory structure which matches the their respective package declaration.
    ex. if you have a file called Hello.java with the package com.test.myapp
    the the jar file must have this file in the following directory structure
    com/test/myapp/Hello.class
    Otherwise, the class loader will not be able to load your classes.

    Hi Olivier,
    you could try the following approach:
    1. Package your JAR files as J2EE Engine libraries and deploy them on it as described here: <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/9f/2ade3fc6c6ec06e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm">Working with J2EE Libraries</a>.
    2. Set reference to this library from the application that use them. Depending on your application, refer to the appropriate documentation:
    -- reference from a J2EE app -> see <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/15/d5d93fe80fed06e10000000a1550b0/frameset.htm">Referencing Libraries in Applications</a>

  • Access denied while loading jar files from client

    I am creating a platform
    that can be started by JWS
    and then load plug-ins from client drive.
    I've signed my platform (packaged as a jar file),
    and set up the security tag in my jnlp,
    so that it can access client files.
    The plug-ins are packaged as jar files.
    And in one of the plug-ins, there is a class that has a JFileChooser field.
    While initializing this field, the AccessControlException is thrown.
    I can't figure out what is wrong,
    So I tried to sign the plug-in, but the problem stands still.
    PS. I have made my own ClassLoader,
    and this platform works well without JWS.

    When running under Java Web Start, a security manager is installed.
    Since you have created your own classloader, you are responsible for assigning permissions to the classes you load.
    You can change you class loader to extend SecureClassLoader, then override getPermissions:
    protected PermissionCollection getPermissions(CodeSource codesource) {
    PermissionCollection perms = super.getPermissions(codesource);
    /* add whatever permissions you want your code to hance*/
    perms.add( ... );
    /* or just add all-permissions */
    perms.add(new AllPermission());
    or - you can just remove the Security Manager:
    System.setSecurityManager(null);
    /Dietz

  • Location of downloaded .jar files?

    When I was using the java in the jre package, downloaded .jar files would go to ~/.java  I have switched to the openjdk6 package and I have no idea where downloaded .jar files go now... it seems as though they are cached in memory and not saved to disk at all.  Are they saved somewhere?

    openjdk and jre don't do the same.
    openjdk is a jdk (Java Development Kit) and jre is Java Runtime Environment.
    And the files should be downloaded into your download directory which you've either set manually or is maybe $HOME/Download.

  • FileNotFoundException in jar file

    Hi all,
    I am new to using jar files, and I am having a problem accessing files within the jar file. I packaged the jar file using Eclipse. The error that I get is:
    java.io.FileNotFoundException: Coordinates.txt <The system cannot find the file specified>
    at java.io.FileInputStream.open<Native Method>
    at java.io.FileInputStream.<init><Unknown Source>
    at java.util.Scanner.<init><Unknown Source>
    I can fix this problem by copying and pasting the contents of my files (.txt and .gif) into completely new files and replacing the old ones using WinRAR. When I do this, the program runs perfectly. Unfortunately, when I email my program as an attachment or on some computers when I transfer it with a thumb drive, I get the same error message. Because of the patched-up fix that I found, I am wondering if this could be a problem with file permissions?
    Thanks a lot!

  • Jar file doesn't read classpath environment variable from windows xp

    I created a small program that uses javamail and jdbc driver. I program on Win XP and use java 1.6.04.
    When I compiled my classes the program works fine but when I created a jar package the jar file cannot 'see' the classpath that windows has already set.
    I have to set the classpath in the manifest file and then it works ok.
    Is this normal? I was expecting that the jar file would work just fine without any complication since the classpath is already set in the system?
    If you could point to any documentation that covers this it would be great.
    Thank you very much.

  • JAR files and Macs

    I recently completed a project and made it into a Jar file. In windows, i simply double click to run the application.
    Just curious, if i submit the Jar file, will my lecturer, who condemms windoze machines, be able to run it on his Mac? I think its a power book that runs MacOS X?
    What instructions should i include?

    Java applications that are packaged in jar files can be run on different operating systems like Linux and Mac OS X. It's not a problem to simply run the jar from the Mac. To execute a java application that is bundled inside a jar file, you use the command line, a "terminal", and execute the following code..
    java -jar MyApplication.jar
    Basically using the same "java" command used to execute a class, but including the option "-jar" which tells the Java interpreter on the machine that the application has been packaged into a jar format. The interpreter will find the class which serves as the entry point of the application by examining the Manifest file which is included with the jar file. It sounds like you created your Jar file inside an IDE of some sort, maybe NetBeans..
    To have the "double clicking" option on the Mac - it may be possible but I'm not sure how to do it.
