This printout resulted after canceling the download and restarting pacman -Syu.  Thus the same failure occurs after the original download failure of the same type.
What causes this failure mode?

I guess, this shouldn't happen... but then again, I guess, I really really shouldn't have the machine hibernate while pacman is downloading .
No it should not happen, this is the same bug.
I guess either when you suspended or resumed, your network was down at some point, so libfetch returned -1 and triggered the infamous pacman bug.

  • Pacman hanging on "checking for file conflicts"

I've tried running pacman -Syu on my laptop and pacman is simply hanging at the checking for file conflicts stage.  I've let it sit for several minutes, but it never seems to get past that stage.  The list of packages to be updated isn't long:
    Targets (5): bison-2.6.2-1 chromium-21.0.1180.75-1 flex-2.5.37-1 libldap-2.4.32-1 lm_sensors-3.3.2-4
This is being done on a laptop that was only recently rebuilt with a new Arch install using the latest installation media.  The install went well and previous updates have worked with no problems.

I'm glad you solved the problem but "pacman -Scc" shouldn't be necessary and makes it more difficult to recover in a variety of situations. You can always re-download old packages but having them in your cache makes it easy to roll something back and makes it possible to do this without, for example, a working network connection. I installed in November and I've never even run "pacman -Sc" let alone "pacman -Scc". (Though I have trimmed the cache to free up disk space using, I think, paccache.)

  • [solved] pacman 4 hangs after "checking for file conflicts"

Like others, I removed yaourt and package-query because they conflicted with pacman4... not worried about that, I'll reinstall them later.
I put the new pacman.conf in place (my old one wasn't really customized).  I left SigLevel = Never.
Now, I can run pacman -Sy fine, but if I try to install anything, I it just hangs:

I don't see much disk activity after that and the pacman process uses no CPU time and the process status goes to D in `ps` (man ps says: D: Uninterruptible sleep (usually IO)).

This is my third attempt.  I let it run yesterday for 20 hours on the theory that maybe it was actually doing something.  It always completes "checking for file conflicts" but never goes any further.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to get it to continue?

Disk space?  I think I have enough disk space.

  • [SOLVED] Corrupt Packages

I haven't updated in a few months, and decided to start doing so today. But the package files seem to be consistently corrupted.
    checking package integrity...
error: failed to commit transaction (invalid or corrupted package)
<package name>.pkg.tar.xz is invalid or corrupted
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
This doesn't happen with all packages, but definitely most of the ones I've tried. Particularly those related to xorg, which makes updating a lot of other things impossible. I've tried five separate servers so far, running pacman -Scc and pacman -Sy on each one.
Last edited by Jimage (2010-12-13 10:08:13)

Ran it with -Syy using Server = ftp://mirrors.kernel.org/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
    Still no dice.
Edit: Just tried two of the problematic packages (xorg-server and xorg-server-common) on my other Arch machine, and they worked. So I've obviously broken something on this one.
Could it have anything to do with an earlier error of pacman not being able to find liblzma.so.0? I worked around it by linking the .so file to liblzma.so.0, and then updated liblzma/xz, as well as pacman. Not sure what caused the original problem.

The first one should be owned by mesa, however the one on your system was probably installed by the nvidia installer (can't say for sure, I've always used the arch nvidia package).  It should be safe to force the upgrade of mesa (pacman -Sf mesa) and the carry on installing what you wanted.

I have not any NFS or Samba storage mounted or configured, just one local disk. However i have just grown my root partition from 32 to 100 GB, using gparted in livecd since my arch partition became full, so i think this issue has something to do with that.
    Any ideas??
Last edited by hydrosIII (2014-04-10 05:45:14)

I solved the problem, it turned out to be my fault. Before i grew the partition i had another partition mounted in /var/cache/pacman to hold the pacman packages. I erased it to grow my root partition over it but i forgot to erase the entry in the fstab file, so the system was trying to mount the partition but it didnt exist anymore. The result was a broken mount, that was making pacman hang, since it searched for the files in /var/cache/pacman.
    Silly me!

  • [SOLVED] Pacman unable to install packages due to invalid or corrup...

    Hullo,
I know this is a common error judging by the results google lists for that subject. But all sollutions I found don't work for my specific case.
My battery died on my laptop and when I rebooted and tried to install a package pacman complained the database was locked (can't remember if I was installing something or else while my battery died, happend while I was away).
So since I've just rebooted I deleted the lock-file by hand. Now when ever I tried to install something it would complain:
error: xyz: signature from "xyz @ zyx" is unknown trust
:: File /var/cache/pacman/pkg/packagexyz.pkg.tar.xz is corrupted (invalid or corrupted package (PGP signature)).
Do you want to delete it? [Y/n] y

So I removed /etc/pacman.d/gnupg, cleared the package-cache and ran pacman-key --init:

It looks like it's not doing much. Anyway, trying to install packages or upgrading the system results in me having to import a bunch of keys and then failing with the before mentioned error.
    Anything I can do?
    Thanks

  • Cannot upgrade pacman due to conflict with package-query [SOLVED]

Package query 0.9 requires pacman <4, package-query 1 requires pacman >=4, therefore I am totally unable to upgrade, even using pacman -f
I'm aware that package-query is unsupported software, but this seems a bit stupid to me! Am I to uninstall package-query and therefore yaourt, only to reinstall them by hand, or is there a safe workaround?

    Or, realistically, 5 minutes.
But if that is too much for you to spare, rather than bemoaning the fact that the developers have spent a significant amount of time and effort on this upgrade that will cause you such inconvenience, you could just install another distro - that would probably eat a day.
Every other distro I've tried is inferior and eats up far more frustration time than Arch, which is why it's now on all my machines. I'm still putting off upgrading my 4 machines, though - because painful recent experience tells me that the chances of all 4 getting through this without day-eating breakage is about 6% (If you want a laugh at my expense, see this woeful example of breakage https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/27385). And yes, I'm aware that the longer I put it off, the worse my chances get.
    Edit:
    machine one (netbook).
Time taken so far: 44 minutes (inc reading up on a few errors, plus line-by-line comparison of rc.conf.pacnew, reboot plus check of basic system workiness, plus waiting unsuccessfully for package-query source to download).
Status: yaourt uninstallable (package-query git server appears to be down), openjdk6 broken due to bug, system otherwise appears healthy.
Prognosis: Total 90 minutes for 4 machines seems a reasonable (optimistic) estimate, but I'll further put the other machines off until package-query git server is back up and running.
And many apologies, this has veered somewhat off-topic and off-forum. I will probably make this my last post and let it die.
Further edit: How do I mark a thread as SOLVED? I can't see an option anywhere, or any way to edit the thread title!
edit: Nevermind, the trick is to edit the first post in the thread, it would seem.

  • [SOLVED] Pacman wont upgrade any packages

EDIT: I was able to solve my problem by pacman -R yaourt package-query pacman-color, I was then able to update pacman. Since I like yaourt and wanted to keep it I follow the instructions on their page (http://archlinux.fr/yaourt-en#get_it). I added their repo to my /etc/pacman.conf and then installed yaourt from pacman and now everything works again like it should.
When I try to upgrade packages I get the following errors:

This is obsolete dependency connected with gobject-introspection support. I think it can be removed without any problems. :)

  • Pacman - hot to check how orphan package got installed?

    Hello!
    Today I run:
    pacman -Qtd
to check what orphans I have in my system. Normally, I would not care, but some of them take really long to update, so I'd like to get rid of them. However, to ensure myself, I'd like to know how these packages got into the system. pacman -Qi shows only that it was installed as dependency, but not which dependency. Is there any way to check it?

A smarter way may be running 'pacman -Rs foo' instead of 'pacman -R foo' ;-P

The package has just been updated, wait a couple hours until the mirrors sync and try again or pick some other mirror.

  • [Solved] Makepkg hanging on checking runtime dependencies.

    Hey guys, as above really.
Recently I've been having problems with makepkg and installing from AUR. It seems to fetch dependencies from the official repositories fine, but when makepkg goes to compile the PKGBUILD, it hangs at '==> checking runtime dependencies'.
I've checked htop and I've a yaourt process running like:
    /bin/bash /usr/bin/yaourt -T gtk-perl
the process is using around 40% CPU and even if I leave it running for a while, nothing happens.
I've made no system changes (besides changing http to https in the yaourt config to stop the 301 error after AUR came out of maintenance https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1182722) since this started happening so I'm pretty stumped to what it could be.
    Any ideas?
edit: It works if I run as root, strange, but not ideal.

I do not use yaourt.  We have been having issues with the AUR server over the last couple days.  It is back up now on a new server, but there were issues relating to that move.  Does this thread have any bearing on the issue?
Edit: Never mind.  I am distracted and get low scores for comprehension today
