Pacman keeps trying to upgrade firefox

Every time I run pacman -Syu, pacman wants to update firefox to 2.0.0.10-2, even though I've already updated.
When I query with pacman -Q firefox, it reports that firefox has *not* been updated but remains at 2.0.0.10-1. I can't really tell much from Help / About, which reports a Gecko build date of Nov. 27. Since I think both revisions came out on the same day, I don't know if I'm running -1 or -2.
How can I stop this strange behavior?
Thanks.

Here is what is happening to me:
resolving dependencies... done.
looking for inter-conflicts... done.
Targets: firefox-2.0.0.10-2
Total Package Size: 9.36 MB
Proceed with installation? [Y/n]
checking package integrity... done.
cleaning up... done.
(1/1) checking for file conflicts [#########################################] 100%
(1/1) upgrading firefox [#########################################] 100%
Note that nothing got downloaded ... so the installed version after this download failure will correctly show that I am still at version 2.0.0.10-1:
pacman -Qi firefox
Name : firefox
Version : 2.0.0.10-1
If a pacman query showed anything other than version 2.0.0.10-1, then I'd have two problems instead of just one.
Finally, just as more verification of the weirdness, the pacman logs show this after a successful upgrade to v2.0.0.10-1 and two 'phantom' upgrades to v2.0.0.10-2:

    Hello Chris,
    Thank you for your suggestion. I downloaded and ran all 3 of the scans from Malwarebytes; and although it did find and I did delete items from my computer, (so it was still helpful) it did not fix the problem I'm having with Flash.
    I have run malware, spyware and anti-virus scans. I've cleared my cache's and checked for anything in my programs as well as checked my Applications list in Firefox.
    I'm completely at a loss for what to do!
    Thank you anyhow,
    Lauren.

    Bookmark and use this;
    Download the '''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Mozilla Search Reset]''' {web link}
    This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up
    and then resets your search preferences and home page
    to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This
    affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.
    Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

    hello, this is a scam tactic that is trying to trick you into installing malware, so don't download or execute this kind of stuff - updates are handled automatically by firefox so you don't have to download anything (you can always initiate a manual check for updates in ''firefox > help > about firefox'').
    you might also want to run a full scan of your system with the security software already in place and different tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes], [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner] & [http://www.kaspersky.com/security-scan kaspersky security scan] in order to make sure that there isn't already some sort of malware active on your system that triggers these false alerts.

    you could also help by pressing F10 & going to ''help > report web forgery'' while you're on this dubious page - this might get the page into the list of malicious sites that get blocked in firefox (the actual list is maintained by google) or when such pages use the firefox logos or trademarks to trick users into downloading malware you could also file it at https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/legal/fraud-report/.

  • I keep trying to upgrade my version of Firefox but everytime I download the upgrade I get a message stating that the file is corrupted. Firefox keeps telling me I need to upgrade but I can't seem to make it happen. Can someone help me?

    For several months I have been trying to upgrade my Firefox version, which is no longer supported by several software platforms I need as a songwriter, such as Flashplayer, etc. After I download the upgrade all I get is a message that the file is corrupted. I am not very tech-savvy so I need to talk with someone who can explain what to do in layman's terms.

    Which version of Mac OSX do you have?
    Firefox 2.0.0.20 is the last ever release for Mac OSX 10.3.9 and earlier versions.

  • Since we tried to upgrade Firefox, it keeps saying reboot computer, but it still won't work and it will not let me uninstall.

    We tried to upgrade to Firefox 4.0.1, but now all that pops up is a screen that says "your computer needs to reboot to complete an upgrade" but even after reboot, it still pops up everytime I try to open Firefox. It will not let me uninstall either. Firefox will not open at all.

    I got the same problem. I tried everyting.

  • I tried to upgrade Firefox and now I'm stuck in a loop

    I tried to upgrade to FF4 and my computer froze during installation. So I rebooted and tried to upgrade and it said I needed to reboot to complete an uninstall of a revious version. I did that 3 trimes. I was also unable to just open FF. Then I uninstalled FF completely and tried again, but I'm still getting the reboot message.

    If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
    Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop
    *Firefox 30.0: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
    *Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re)install
    *Install the new version that you have downloaded

  • Tried to upgrade Firefox, followed all the steps, but on homepage still says I need to upgrade to the latest version.

    On the start page it said that I needed to update Firefox to the latest version. So I clicked on update and followed all the steps. I clicked to save to desktop, but there is no icon there and when I go to the start page, it keeps saying that I need to update Firefox to the latest version. Also when I try to play my games at Pogo.com, it says I have a pop-up blocker on and the games will not load. How do I get rid of this? Can't find a pop-up blocker in my tool bars. Is it a part of the Mozilla Firefox?

    You are updated see your user agent :
    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.0; rv:9.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/9.0.1
    all you have to do is to '''set another page as the home page''', see why is that in '''cor-el''' reply [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/905310 here] .
    for pop-up blocker : go to '''TOOLS''' > '''OPTIONS''' > '''CONTENT PANEL''' and '''UNCHECK''' ''Block Pop-up Windows [ ] '' then click '''OK''' to save it, '''exit firefox and restart-it'''. (By default, Firefox blocks annoying pop-up windows on websites. Unchecking this option will disable pop-up blocking). '''OR''' do an exception in exceptions area.

  • [SOLVED] pacman keeps trying to install 32bit packages on my 64bit OS

    Hi,
    I have just installed Arch linux first time (ISO as of 01 Nov). My OS should be 64bit (my hw is 64bit) but pacman fails on any package I try to install.
    Example
    $ pacman -S grub
    error: failed to prepare transaction (package architecture is not valid)
    :: package grub-1:2.02.beta2-5-i686 does not have a valid architecture
    So it tries to install 32bit package (and fails), but why?
    My system:
    $ uname -a
    Linux archiso 3.17.1-1-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Oct 15 15:04:35 CEST 2014 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    I checked /etc/pacman.conf:
    Architecture = auto
    and /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist (the first three entries are shown; all of the mirrors have the same format):
    ## Score: 0.3, Germany
    Server = http://mirror.gnomus.de/$repo/os/$arch
    ## Score: 0.3, France
    Server = http://archlinux.polymorf.fr/$repo/os/$arch
    ## Score: 0.5, Netherlands
    Server = http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/archlinux/$repo/os/$arch
    And it is not only grub, it is any package (e.g. gamin, lxde)

    Spider.007 wrote:What does pacman --debug tell you about 'arch:' (which is de detected architecture)?
    debug: config: arch: x86_64
    and of course the mirrors added look like this:
    debug: adding new server URL to database 'core': http://mirror.gnomus.de/core/os/x86_64

  • I keep trying to download Firefox 4 using various browsers, it appears to go through the installation process successfully but never actually starts up

    I've tried downloading using both IE and Chrome, get all the usual processes you'd expect to install correctly, at the end I leave the box ticked for automatic startup but it doesn't start. The quickstart icon is installed on my desktop, but when I click on it it still doesn't start. When I start to delete it and re-install I always get a message saying that it's running and I have to close it down first, so it clearly thinks it's running, but there's no evidence of that. I've used earlier versions with absolutely no problem, just Firefox 4 won't perform.

    Ok after doing some research, I came up with a solution. I'm sure the original poster has already figured something out, as it was like three months ago, but I wanted to post this anyway, for someone else that may come across this same problem. I went into my task manager (control, alt, delete) and went into processes. Look for 'firefox.exe' If you see it, end the process. Then try and run the install again. This fixed it for me, hopefully it will help somene else too.
