Edit: are you using some system update monitoring script?
    Ops... big "OPS".
    You are right, sorry!

  • [SOLVED] GNOME is messed up after full system upgrade

I ran a full system upgrade today (last one was about 1-2 months ago) and it went smoothly.
Everything boots normally, and my default GNOME desktop also boots, but all the icons are messed up, as can be seen in this screenshot.
And worst, the overlay panel (e.g. when pressing the Windows key) is completely b0rked and unusable.
The GNOME desktop is the default one with no modifications that I know of. I tried searching for existing issues but didn't find any.
    I'm running Intel Graphics on:
    $ lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)
    Any ideas?

While typing the post, I bumped into https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gn … ncorrectly
After setting and re-setting my monitor resolution, things seem to fall back into place.
Looks like I'll use the scaling factor hack for a permanent fix.

  • [solved] After a full-system upgrade (Linux 3.15.8) = Wifi undetected

Hi, following this post, I'm seeking help concerning a big problem with my wifi.
In fact, it has been a few months since my wifi interface isn't recognized anymore. Yesterday, after a few tests, I found it was due to the kernel version, so I tried to reinstall my first ArchLinux (Linux 3.13.5-1-ARCH) : it worked, my wifi was back. The problem was that I couldn't reinstall all my stuffs : so I did a full-system upgrade (knowing I will lose my wifi) and now I just want to fix it once and for all (I'm done dealing with it).
So now, your help would be very appreciated. Does anyone have an idead? Or need more details about my config, my laptop, or whatever?

  • X do not start after full system upgrade - [SOLVED]

    hi all,
i did a full system upgrade yesterday, and after that, arch doesn't start..
    the error itself:
X: error while loading shared libraries: libgcc_s.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
any help on this? want to get off of bloated ubuntu

I have the same issue also. Something told me not to reboot but I did because I wanted to use my rt-kernel.
yes, please help because I too have to use Ubuntu-Studio and SuSE's JAD. Both way too bloated and not as fast as Arch..
I tried to fix the xorg.conf but nothing.

  • [SOLVED] Starting Full System Upgrade... There Is Nothing To Do

"Starting Full System Upgrade... There Is Nothing To Do" is the only message I have ever seen when using pacman -Syu.  I have no problem installing files but pacman cannot seem to EVER find updates to anything.  Even when I know that a package has been updated in the repositories, pacman never acknowledges it.  Some examples of applications are:
    Python2 - Installed - 2.6.5-3, Available - 2.7.1-4
    Geany - Installed 0.19-1, Available - 0.20-1
    Pacman - Installed 3.4.0-2, Available - 3.4.2-1
Even if I try to specify the repository, for Geany for instance, "pacman -S community/geany", it still sees it as up-to-date.
It's quite possible that I'm going about something the wrong way but I don't ever recall the system actually finding updates (since June).  My pacman.conf looks as follows:
MOD EDIT -- Please use code tags to display any output and of files -- Inxsible
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also try to read the wiki about pacman and mirrorlist. Simply uncommenting multiple mirrors does not give you the ability to get packages from all of them. pacman will connect to each one in order. If it can connect to the first one and see that pacman is available it does not connect to the next mirror to see if some other mirror has an updated version of not.
It connects to the next mirror if and only if a certain package is not available on the first mirror or the mirror itself is down.

  • Starting full system upgrade... there is nothing to do

Just finished my Install of Arch and I can't seem to update anything it just gives me "Starting full system upgrade...
    there is nothing to do"
I tried pacman -Syy and it syncs my repos and I've checked and I do have packages that are out of date so they should upodate. My mirrors are also not out of date, I just checked them

Please paste the pull output pacman -S openbox. I think you'll find something along the lines of:
warning: openbox-3.5.0-7 is up to date -- reinstalling
The following will tell you which version you have installed
    $ pacman -Q openbox
The current version is 3.5.0-7, which you can see here: https://www.archlinux.org/packages/comm … 4/openbox/

error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: xf86-video-ati: requires libgl>=7.2
Checked the news and theads on here and not seen anyone with simular problems so I'm really not quite sure how to tackle this one...

sorry, i should have added a bit more detail about my setup:
it's an ASUS X51RL-series laptop. It has an ATI radeon xpress 1100 GFX chip.
    I'm running KDE4 + compiz-fusion
I'm guessing the problem is related to the xorg upgrade? Beyond that I'm not sure how best to address the dependances.

  • I can't connect to Wi-Fi - keeps timing out. No problem connecting from other laptops / phones. Stopped working after I did a system upgrade. What can I do?

I can't connect to Wi-Fi - keeps timing out. No problem connecting from other laptops / phones. Stopped working after I did a system upgrade. What can I do? I am on OS X Yosemite.

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wireless router.
    Step 1
Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
    Step 2
Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 3
Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 4
    Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
    Step 5
In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
    Step 6
Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 7
You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 8
Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    Step 9
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).

  • Unable to boot after Time Machine full system restore!!

I was having some serious slowdowns with my computer. I did multiple RAM and HD hardware tests, everything seemed to be working fine. I had recently deleted a bunch of files in order to free up some HD space, so I thought that may be the culprit. So I did a Time Machine backup and restored the Powerbook to it's original 10.3 software. All was fine. Then I upgraded back to 10.5 and all was fine. Then I did a Time Machine full system restore overnight and got the message "Your restore was successful, you must now restart your computer" (or something to that effect). Now I get the start-up chime and startup screen (apple logo) but then the computer shuts itself down. I have reset the PMU and PRAM to no effect. I have tried booting up in safe made, also no dice. I have tried starting it up with the time machine HD attached - doesn't help. I guess I'll need to hit the genius bar but wanted to ask the friendly discussion forum folks first. thanks in advance.

    Hi coldengray
Did you try to start from your System-CD? Hold down C-key during startup, start DiskUtility from the menu and verify/repair disk and permissions there.
If the CD is not available you can also connect your TimeMachine-Disk, select it as startup volume in System Preferences/StartupDisk, restart and then run DiskUtility from folder Applications/Utilities
    Good luck P

  • Mail Message Restore Stuck after completing a full system restore

I just completed a full system restore on my Macbook Pro using the "Restore From Backups" function. Upon the first boot up, I was greeted with a "Mail Message Import" Dialog Box asking to import my messages. It began importing alot of my folders but then became stuck on the "Deleted Messages" folder with 4500 out of 7000 messages already imported. The progress bar sits and never moves and the Time remaining amount begins to increase and increase. I have the option to cancel and if I do cancel and attempt to open Mail again, then I must complete the process over again. Ultimately becoming stuck at the same point of the import process each time.
    FYI
I have 5 email accounts set up (one iMap) on this machine.
Where is this being imported from?
Can I point it to another backup directory?
    Any Help is much appreciated.
    THanks,

Thanks Man! That WOrked!!!!! Your the best! and Thank you for those Kind words! Happy MacBooking!!

  • INDesgin image links broken after saving file across systems

    Hi
We have a scenario involving 3 components:
    1. Linux file server running both SMB and AFP (sharing the same directory thru both protocols)
    2. MacOS 10.5 (Leopard) with INDesign CS3 connecting to the Linux server thru AFP
    3. Windows 2003 server running INDesign CS3 connecting to the Linux server thru SMB (or NFS)
    The scenario:
    1. We create an INDD document and link an image to the AFP share (on the linux)
    2. On the windows 2003 server we open the same document from the SMB share (on the linux) - no error/broken links message is received.
    3. We save the document with a irrelevant to images change, (eg. Adding a text block) to the SMB share
    Here is the problem:
    4. We open the document on the MacOS and receive "Broken links" message atlhough when you look at the path of the image you see the correct AFP path (needless to mention the path is mounted on the MacOS properly and the images are fully accessible)
What can we do, so we will not receive a broken links popup on step #4 of the scenario?
    Thanks

No answers, but a few questions:
Just to be clear, by "broken" you mean missing, not in need of updating, right?
What version of netatalk are you using on the Linux box? Does it implement AFP 3?
What version of InDesign CS3 are you using? Is it fully patched to the last public version (5.0.4.682) or newer?
Are there any potentially problematic characters (e.g., slashes, backslashes, unicode characters, etc.) in the file names or the directories in the full paths?
If you make note of the full path on the Mac when the document is first created, and then compare it very carefully with the same path when you re-open it and get the broken links messages, can you detect any differences? It might also be interesting to place one of the same "missing" images in the document again once you've re-opened it on the Mac, and compare the two paths...

  • Full System Upgrade: pacman -Syyu

When I use that command, it asks me if I want to replace iwiwfi and rt2x00-cvs with kernel26. Am I supposed to hit yes on these? Cause when I do it can't resolve the dependencies because archboot used both of them. So I am trying it with no while I wait for a response. Thanks in advance.

You should file a bug for archboot.  It should no longer depend on these packages as they a build into the kernel.
    My suggestion:
    pacman -R archboot
    pacman -Syu
    pacman -Sd archboot
That will remove archboot, upgrade your system and install archboot while ignoring dependancy problems.
