Pacman -S glibc won't continue, conflict on `/lib/libiberty.a`?
Hello, I've been hit with the recent glibc update that broke a lot of systems. I'm almost done fixing mine, but I'm not sure how to resolve this.
For reference, this is what I've done so far.
Used the `find /lib -exec pacman -Qo -- {} +` to determine what to do.
I found /lib/gcc/x86_64-elf was unowned. I think this may have been from a freestanding cross compiler I built. I moved it to /usr/lib/gcc
I also updated the android-udev AUR package which had a file in /lib.
Now, I'm stuck on one final conflict. There is a /lib/libiberty.a file left over that is unowned. I would move it to /usr/lib, but a file by the same name already exists, but oddly they are different sizes.
Stats from each:

What could this have been installed by? Will it break anything to remove it? And how do I resolve this conflict?
That probably was installed with your cross compiler too. Get rid of it.

Last edited by mpz (2012-10-02 12:50:40)Glibc is a very basic part of the system on which *many* (most?) other programs and tools rely. Glibc provides shared libraries that are used by nearly every program - if you've ever looked at any C code, near the top you'll see lines like "#include <stdlib.h>" and "#include <stdio.h>", these header files are provided by glibc. The header files are not necessary for your computer to run (but are to compile anything new), but the libraries that are referred to by those headers are required. If glibc is gone, those shared library files are gone. Without these basic shared libraries, only statically linked binaries, or programs that don't require these very fundamental libraries can run. As nothing is statically linked (by default) in arch, the absence of glibc results in a severely handicapt system. If you are curious, you can google around on "C standard libraries" and "dynamic linking".
But all that is rather 'academic'. To fix your system follow techryda's advice. Also see the wiki page on chroot, or the many other threads of other users who found creative ways of botching the glibc update. Simply tryng to copy glibc files over would almost certainly lead to a whole new set of headaches - but a little reading of the appropriate docs should make this relatively easy to fix with a live media, chroot, and pacman. -
Adobe flashplayer won't continue downloading until I close Mozilla Foxfire. Adobe says it's conflicting the download. How do I close Mozilla Firefox so I can finish my download of Adobe Flash Player? And then how will I turn Foxfire back on once Adobe Flash Player is done downloading?
To close Firefox, in the menus select "File > Exit", you can start Firefox by using the same shortcut that you used to open Firefox originally.
I would ignore the instructions from Adobe. Adobe uses its own download manager but it is not required. All you need to do to install Adobe Flash is download the Adobe Flash manual installer and run it. For details on doing that see the Adobe troubleshooting article - http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html#main_ManualInstaller -

No, problem. Your also only trying to help.
get the installation cd, mount the partition and use pacman -Sf glibc bzip -r /path/to/directory and then pacman -Syu -r /path/to/directory
I'm back in my system, but I think that everything is still broken.. I'm now getting:

Songs won't continuous play in playlist on itunes, Please Help!!
Just recently when I try to play my music on my computer on itunes it won't continuous play in my playlists. Just one song at a time. I cannot figure it out. Can anyone help? Any suggestions?
The songs in this particular playlist are unchecked because they are all AAC conversions that I load on my nano. For normal iTunes use, I have my songs in 320 kps. mp3s--but the files are too big for the Nano. So I keep this playlist, and uncheck the songs so I don't have duplicates playing in my regular libary. The songs don't play when checked and unchecked are together, but when it's just the complete unchecked song list they play in random order continuously until I stop them manually.
good lord ... i don't believe i've ever seen that reported before. (no real surprise, i guess ... how would people realise that something strange was happening if it was happening to them? that would keep report levels down ...)
can anyone else replicate samdogmom's itunes behavior?

its saying to close firefox after i have closed it and won't continue with installing flash player
Download and installation are two separate steps. The Adobe Flash '''installation''' procedure requires that Firefox be closed before installing Flash.
orange Firefox button > '''''Exit''''' or File > Exit to close Firefox. Then wait a minute or so before starting to install Flash. -
Keynote stops when playing and won't continue to next slide?
Keynote stops when playing and won't continue to next slide?
Hello, welcome to the user forum,
It would help if you told which version of Captivate you are using. Since you are talking about 'multiple actions', I suppose it is Captivate 4, because that feature was abandoned in Captivate 5 and even for CP4 it was not very recommendable, I always replaced it by an Advanced action.
I blog a lot about advanced actions, and also posted articles in the knowledgebase of CP-Help. A complete list of those articles are found as a link in this blog post:
Articles on Advanced Actions
It is a list published on acrobat.com; updated it yesterday with latest article.
If you are totally new to Advanced Actions, I could offer an example of the code you'll need, but want to know first if you are using CP4 or CP5.

received a notice that could not use photo stream unless I updated my software. Went to apple preferences/icloud to disable photo stream. Not allowed to do so. What do I do to disable so I won't continue to receive annoying messages from apple/icloud
I think you can solve your problems by removing your AppleID email address from BOTH the Messages setting on your iPhone and the iMessages settings on your Mac.
On iPhone:
Settings > Messages > iMessage > Dissabled
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > touch the "(i)" < touch "Remove This Email"
On Mac:
Open "Messages" application
Click "Messages menu > Preferences
Click "Accounts"
Select your AppleID account
Under the "You can be reached for messages at" settings, uncheck your AppleID email address and your phone number
Then uncheck the "Enable this account" setting
And lastly, ask all of your friends with iPhones to delete all iMessage conversations (blue bubbles) in their entirety.
To test, send a friend a new text using their phone number (not their email address) and watch the color of the bubble. If it's green then you are using SMS. -
Ruined Everything [Sudo pacman -S glibc --force]
I'm new so sorry if i commit any mistake in written at forums, my last post a member call me attention from writthen in capital letter, is like i shout to someone.
So i believe i ruined my arch, because i wrote on terminal:
Sudo pacman -S glibc --force
My inttention was to update glib, so wine can work, so i believe using --force was a simple way to update it.
So nothing is opening right now, i believe if i restart the system it will not open anymore.
Any solution, i appreciate
sorry if i dont make my self clearThere were numerous posts on this and even front page news with instructions. I believe you were specifically instructed NOT to use force. Try searching here for a solution, but you may have indeed borked your install.

Video 'pauses' and won't continue
Hi
Can anyone help
I have a few tv shows and films on my ipod.
the majority work fine. But one or two, the screen 'pauses' (play arrow still displayed at top of screen) and won't continue.
I've tried the 5 r's, i've tried 'ressetting' it through itunes. but still have same problem.
RozHI Ash,
Try reinstalling the *drivers that came with your C84*. (that's a work horse of a printer I used to have one).
Repair disk permissions.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*
Try deleting the Epson .plist file too.
~/Library/Preferences
Look for a file similar to this. com.Epson(model number).plist
Move that file to the Trash and see if that makes a difference.

Siri won't continue when I touch the meeting I want to reschedule
I'm syncing my iPhone with Google Calendar (through the Microsoft Exchange protocol that Google provides). I only have this one calendar on my iPhone. Let's say I have 3 meetings tomorrow. Since I don't remember the exact names of them, I'll say "Reschedule tomorrow’s meeting” which Siri will respond “You have 3 meetings tomorrow. Touch the one you want to reschedule”. The 3 meetings display properly, but as soon as I touch one, Siri responds “You have no meetings tomorrow” and won't continue.
However, if I know the exact name of the meeting, I can say “Reschedule the ‘conference call’” and Siri will find it and process it properly. Does anyone else have this issue?Hi, my camara is approved.. my memory is 1 GB DDr2 SDRAM
and my processor is 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo
I know that Mac is not supposed to get viruses, but what else is going on here? It sure acts like one.. at least as far as my experience goes with non apple viruses.. I have found since I posted this problem that if I drag my clips out of the trash I can restore them.. but have just tried that and the fly right back to the trash, and when I click on a clip to open it, this message appears: "to use this item, drag it out of the trash first".. which is what I just tried to do, but like I said, it just flies back to the trash like it is attached with a rubber band..
Any help is very much appreciated.. Thanks. -
My iMac G5 won't continue the start-up process
My iMac G5 won't continue the start-up process, it goes through the gray screen with the Apple to the blue screen after a short while the fans go on and it goes no further.
I'm not sure what to do at this point. There are a number of things to try:
Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.
Resetting the PRAM
Resetting the SMU
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
3. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
4. Release the power button.
5. Attach the computers power cable.
6. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
It's possible your logic board has failed, you can also run Apple Hardware Test which should be either on your install disc #1 or #2, hold down the D key to run it.
Please post back with results,

Since update to 10.4.10 NFS-mounts stopped mounting
Since the update to 10.4.10 (with or without the security update, didn't matter) my NFS-mounts from a Linux-machine via a WLAN-router and Airport to my MacBook Pro. It did work, although apple-typically unreliable, until the 10.4.10 update. rpcinfo -
