Ruined Everything [Sudo pacman -S glibc --force]

I'm new so sorry if i commit any mistake in written at forums, my last post a member call me attention from writthen in capital letter, is like i shout to someone.
So i believe i ruined my arch, because i wrote on terminal:
Sudo pacman -S glibc --force
My inttention was to update glib, so wine can work, so i believe using --force was a simple way to update it.
So nothing is opening right now, i believe if i restart the system it will not open anymore.
Any solution, i appreciate
sorry if i dont make my self clear

There were numerous posts on this and even front page news with instructions. I believe you were specifically instructed NOT to use force. Try searching here for a solution, but you may have indeed borked your install.

Glibc is a very basic part of the system on which *many* (most?) other programs and tools rely.  Glibc provides shared libraries that are used by nearly every program - if you've ever looked at any C code, near the top you'll see lines like "#include <stdlib.h>" and "#include <stdio.h>", these header files are provided by glibc.  The header files are not necessary for your computer to run (but are to compile anything new), but the libraries that are referred to by those headers are required.  If glibc is gone, those shared library files are gone.  Without these basic shared libraries, only statically linked binaries, or programs that don't require these very fundamental libraries can run.  As nothing is statically linked (by default) in arch, the absence of glibc results in a severely handicapt system.  If you are curious, you can google around on "C standard libraries" and "dynamic linking".
But all that is rather 'academic'.  To fix your system follow techryda's advice.  Also see the wiki page on chroot, or the many other threads of other users who found creative ways of botching the glibc update.  Simply tryng to copy glibc files over would almost certainly lead to a whole new set of headaches - but a little reading of the appropriate docs should make this relatively easy to fix with a live media, chroot, and pacman.

  • Sudo pacman behind a proxy...

I've installed arch on a pc which is behind a proxy. No problem after using
    export http_proxy=...
the point is that if I enter the system as root (or su) I can use pacman but, if I give a sudo pacman (as a user) I can not access the network.
Sudo works fine, the problem is that I can not manage the proxy as a simple user...as a SU everuthing is fine
I've also repated the export http(ftp)_proxy command as a user but without success

  • (solved)Sudo pacman -S kedmod-complete gives me what?

    sudo pacman -S kdemod-complete
It doesn't state which version of kde I will recieve 3.5.9 is what I want
    Thanks

If you ever want to know the available version of a package in a repo: first, make sure you add the repo to your pacman.conf. Then re-sync pacman with -Sy or -Syy. Then search for the package in question with pacman -Ss:
    pacman -Ss kdemod-complete
Also try pacman -Si <pkgname> for more details.
    man pacman for more.

  • [SOLVED]sudo pacman -R NameOfApplication...

Whenever I install an app from the repo, I just type
    sudo pacman -S theApplication,
Then it downloads the application, checks the integrity of the downloads and install the application.
Whenever I remove an app, I just type
    sudo pacman -R theApplication
Then it just removes the applications.
But whenever I want to install the removed app again after a while by doing sudo pacman -S the Application,
it does not download the application but directly starts installing this. This means that the application is somewhere on the hard drive. Therefore I want to know how I can remove an app completely. => next time when I want to install the app again, it should download it again, check the integrity and install it.
How can I do it pro App individually? What I do now is I just sudo pacman -Syu => It then updates the complete system. After this the downloaded but deinstalled app is really gone.
    Any ideas?

It just installs the still existing pkg file on your hard drive. Feel free to delete it from /var/cache/pacman/pkg. Else use ABS, this will always download a new source tarball.
    Or...
    man pacman
With -Sc you can remove unused packages...

  • Pacman -S glibc won't continue, conflict on `/lib/libiberty.a`?

Hello, I've been hit with the recent glibc update that broke a lot of systems. I'm almost done fixing mine, but I'm not sure how to resolve this.
For reference, this is what I've done so far.
Used the `find /lib -exec pacman -Qo -- {} +` to determine what to do.
I found /lib/gcc/x86_64-elf was unowned. I think this may have been from a freestanding cross compiler I built. I moved it to /usr/lib/gcc
I also updated the android-udev AUR package which had a file in /lib.
Now, I'm stuck on one final conflict. There is a /lib/libiberty.a file left over that is unowned. I would move it to /usr/lib, but a file by the same name already exists, but oddly they are different sizes.
    Stats from each:

What could this have been installed by? Will it break anything to remove it? And how do I resolve this conflict?

That probably was installed with your cross compiler too.  Get rid of it.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Flash player 11 ruined everything.

on thursday, i turned on my computer and the flash player updated itself with the newest version. flash player 11. until this happened, everything worked fine. my primary use is for youtube. ever since the program updated itself, nothing  works. no video. nada. i can't download anything. my web browser won't open most websites. this program has ruined my computer. i have tried everything under the sun for the last 3 days and have gotten nowhere. uninstall, reboot, reboot again, reinstall, reboot, trouble shooting, de-activating firewall and security anti-virus, disabling hardware accelerators, managing add-ons, enabling them,  then re-activating it. trouble shooting windows. unfortunately, i can't update anything for windows, because the page won't display thanks to your program. i just get a blank screen. so,after having exhausted every possible means of trying to fix my computer, this is the way i see things. it was your program that messed everything on my computer up, therefore,it is up to you to fix it. under the age old rule of "you brake it, you bought it". if this is not fixable, i'm going to lose a whole boatload of very important files, and some of it non replaceable content. the damage would be serious enough to put me out of business. i lose everything.

I am using window 7, my browser is Google Chrome and since your 11.6 flash instalation my computer is totally screwed up!! Half of my stuff won't download, my comptuer is so slow now, I have multiple screens when I scroll up and down. I have no clue what is going on!! I have tried everything and nothing works. WHAT NOW

  • Just updated to 5.0.1 and lost everything... how to force restore from icloud?

I'm a new Ipad user.  I -just- got it a couple days ago.  This morning it says there is an update and do I want to update.  I did.  Now -everything- is lost ... all my apps, all my data I've been putting in for the past couple days.
How do you force a restore from the icloud?

Presuming that you have done a backup to iCloud this article tells how to restore: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4859

  • Mavericks ruining everything

I downloaded Mavericks last night and recognized that it was going terribly slow. So I went to disk utility and verified the disk and it said that I needed to restart my Mac and hold command R and do a disk repair there. So I did that and it then said, "live file system repair is not supported." So I backed out of it and tried to restart the computer and it came up with the flashing folder with a question mark in it. I then restarted a few more times and it led me to start the internet recovery. Have I lost everything? Is there anything I can do? I can't believe this was released this way!

Mavericks is working just fine on my Macbook Pro from 2011. And it is working fine on many other Mac computer of many different models and configurations.
You probably had a faulty hard drive or drive to logic board cable to begin with.
If you Backed out of the actual Mavericks install that most likely corrupted the drive and that is why you are getting the ? mark.
Is everythng lost? Maybe. You should reinstall the original OS X version on and external drive and see if you can access the internal drive to copy your files from it. If not then yes everything is lost. But since it seems you never made a backup of your system everything would of been lost eventually anyway.

  • Update ruined everything!!

I finally found a cord to start adding music and I noticed an update. Well I did it and lost EVERYTHING!! Not only that but now my wi-fi won't work. It's connected with a high signal and it says there's no connection. This is horrible. I am still under warranty so I guess I will visit an apple store tomorrow. But any help? Or is anyone having the same problem??

Yes I tried everything. It's still not working and saying i'm not connected to the internet even though I am.

  • Everything is messing up or force closing!

My phone is having a lot of problems. It deleted all of my contacts for the second time, It forcecloses everything, It won't let me set my pictures as a background, and my alarm clock won't even work now. I don't know what to do with it. I have tried to do the factory reset and it won't even do that. Other than those things it works.

    Hi lil_fixy11,
I feel your pain, I would be frustrated if my phone didn't work properly and I wasn't able to do a factory reset to resolve issues. Please follow the instruction below for a factory reset alternate method:
Press the Power button for 3 - 5 seconds.
    Select Power off.
If the device isn't responding proceed with step 3.
    Remove / replace the battery.
Press and hold the Volume down key then press and hold the Power button for 3 to 5 seconds.
When the HBOOT screen appears, release the Volume down key.
Press the Volume key to select FACTORY RESET then press the Power button.
This boot process takes several moments. If the device hangs or freezes, remove / replace the battery.
    Perform Initial Activation / Setup.
I trust that you will be able to perform factory reset and have issues resolved. Keep us posted.

  • The new update ruined everything.

Well, not everything per se, iTunes still functions properly. Any attempt to update the iPod, however, draws this message:
Anyways, I realize there are FAQs and walk-throughs about solving this problem, but I have tried them all repeatedly and nothing works. I am convinced it is a problem within the new update, and this is not so far-fetched as it seems I am far from alone in having problems with this new and "improved" version.
And what did I give up the ability to update my iPod for? The ability to sync iTunes up to Nike.com.
    Sweet trade.
      Windows XP

First try the usual reboot and if that doesn't help
try a restore.  BTW, make sure you do a backup
and sync before you do the restore if needed.

  • I lost all my picture, n everything after update to iOS 5, very sad, try to restore, nothing happen, just bad, iOS 5 ruin everything, anyone please help!! So frustrated

I lost all my picture , n everything, after upgrade to ios5, I try to restore but just can't, so frustrated, ios5ruin everything, so sad, anyone please help?? Thx

Did you get any error messages?  What happens when you try to restore from backup? Error messages?
If music, the apps themselves and some other items were not in yur iTunes library when you did the update they will not be on the iPod after the update.  This is because the apps themselves (app data is in the backup), music and some other items are not part of the backup and are synced to he iPod during a latter stage of the update.
