Page break/empty page issue

Hi,
I have big report with 4 data sections.
This is the structure of the report.
Main Frame
--> Repeating Frame
-->Frame1 - PageBreak After - Yes
Some Fields
-->Frame2 - PageBreak After - Yes
Some Fields
--> Repeating Frame
-->Frame3 - PageBreak After - Yes
Some Fields
--> Repeating Frame
-->Frame4 - PageBreak After - Yes
--> Repeating Frame
The size of the report with all the fields and frames in designer is coming up to 30 inches.
When I run the report leaving the Main Section Height property setting to 11 inches,
I get the following error
REP-1212: Object 'M_6' is not fully enclosed by its enclosing object 'Body'
When I changed the Main Section Height property setting to 30 inches then the report runs fine,
but each page break is taking 30 inches even though there the data is not 30 inches.
Meaning even though section 1 (frame 1) has only 10 lines section 2 is displayed after 30 inches of section 1.
Can anyone help me fix this problem?
I hope I explained the problem clearly.
Thanks
Sathish

In my report there are four major sections and each section should start on a new page.
After I add all the fields to all the sections the report height is 30 inches.
For it to run I had to set the page height property to 30 (Main Section --> Height). I think I am correct here.
So, when I run the report each section is starting in a new page but each section is taking 30 inches.
That is the problem.

  • How Do I Create a Page Break In Pages For iPad? This time it's different!

I know this has been asked a million times before but my situation is different. On apple help it says place the insertion point where you want the break to happen. How do i move the insertion point? I can only move it by typing and then it only works for the first page. All the other pages i've had to use text boxes to type and now i've resorted to finishing the document on my computer Please help!

No it does not have to be only body test, but you are trying to put the page break into a text box.
Touch the area outside the text box, that is the body of the document and you can insert a page break there.
I have page breaks and text boxes no problem in my docs, it is just a case of knowing what you are doing.
Text boxes sit on top of the body of the document, the body text needs to run under the document, no need to have text in it, it just needs to be there.
I can't help any more, sorry.

  • How can I 'search' for Line/Page Breaks in Pages 5.5.2?

In the old version of Pages I was able to Find Line/Page Breaks by copying these symbols from the document and pasting them into the Find box. However, when I do this in Pages 5, all I see pasted is a blank space.
How can I copy and paste symbols?

Visit the View menu, and select Show Invisibles. The page breaks will be a blue line across the page with a document icon at the end of that line. The hard (paragraph) returns are the pilcrow ¶ character.
Select the page or paragraph break symbol, and then press cmd+E. This is shorthand for use the selected character for the search. Next press cmd+F to open the Find panel, which will now be pre-populated with the character you want to find. In the gear icon, choose Whole Word. Then press the > key to advance to the next found character. There is no left panel display that shows the page number(s) that the found characters appear on.

  • How to insert a section break without a page break on Pages 5? Is it possible?

I would like to begin a page with a page-wide paragraph, then continue with multiple columns. Can I insert a section break and stay on the same page, making the second section three columns? I haven't found a way to do that, and it seems it's not that unusual a format? It was easy with Pages 4.

    You mean a Layout Break.
This is one simplification in Pages 5.
Just select the paragraphs and change the number of columns in the Format sidebar.
The only problem is vertical and horizontal indents, there are none.

I can't seem to find any help in the manual on how to remove page breaks that I inserted in the document by using the Insert>Page Break on the menu.
I have Show Invisibles turned on and I see the code for the page break but I can't delete it.
    Anyone know how?

  • RH8 for Word - Strange page breaks and non-scoll headers

    RH8 and Word 2007 generating WinHelp 2000.
Normal page breaks are full page width.
When I insert one in manually, it shows as only 2 inches wide.
A tiopic with this short break does not show as a non-scroll header and does not get included in the browse sequence
    Any ideas folks?

Funny you should ask as I've been trying to figure this out too!
This is a Word 2007 issue - I assume you are using Office 2007? I am using RH7, but I believe my solution will work for you because it is Word, not RH.
Anyhow, assuming my Word 2007 assumption is spot-on, you need to change word options.
Go to the Office button, select Word Options.
    Select Advanced.
Scroll to bottom of the window and look for Compatibility options (very bottom of the window).
    Expand the layout options.
Check "don't split apart page break and paragraph mark". (You can apply this to the current open doc you see or all docs - if all docs, you will probably change the global normal template, which you may not want to do.)
    Click Okay.
Note, if you go to recheck the setting, the format is now listed as "custom".
Specifically, what was happening is the page break was taking on a "normal" style with 0pts before and after. This caused for me a big gap between the top of the help window and my heading 1 style. (I have my Heading 1 style set to 6pt before and 2pt after and font is 12pt.) Changing the above makes the page break itself take on the Heading 1 style which then also expands across the draft window instead only a couple inches. Other than affecting how the Heading 1 might appear in the compiled help system, I don't see any probelm with using the page break with the normal style applied to it, however, it is a little disconcerting. I noticed this particularly in the Outline view as I sort the pages in my the doc alphabetically based on Heading 1 so I can locate info easily by client name. When I used the "normal" or should I say "abnormal" style page break, these page breaks were excluded from the sort and I had no page breaks! (At least there is still an undo option!)
I'm not sure, but you may need to modify the robohelp.dot template to keep this permanent for your robohelp for word help systems.
In addition, your heading style probably does not have the paragraph format setting set to "keep with next", so change the style and that should add the non-scroll to the header.
One final piece of advice, have the "developer" tab showing in the ribbon. This allows you to access the template and see the styles in your doc. I would  uncheck the "automatically update" option so that when you reopen the doc, it doesn't lose any doc specific style changes you made.

  • Empty pages being generated when report spans multiple pages

    hi folks
I have a problem when generating my pdf form that I hope you can shed some light on.
Firstly, I have a table within a table.
Eg. For each line of Table_1, a new page must be displayed.
Then for Table_2 a list of employees with the matching criteria in line_1 of Table_1 are displayed on page 1. For the next line of Table_1, the same, and so on.
My problem comes in when there are too many employees in Table_2 to fit on a single page, they span onto the next page (as they should), but the pdf form also now displays blank pages at random.
    Something like this:
    Page 1
    --empty
    Page 2
    -Table_1-Line_1
    -Table_2 (lines 1 - 30 of 35)
    Page 3
    -Table_1-Line_1
    -Table_2 (lines 31-35 of 35)
    Page 4
    -Table_1-line_2
    -Table_2 (lines 1 - 10 of 10)
    Page 5
    --empty
Why the empty pages? Any help will be much appreciated.
    thanks.
Also worth noting. If Table_2 doesn't span multiple pages, then I don't get the empty pages.
    thanks in advance
    Anton Kruse

    Hello,
it is clear why your first page is blank. That is because you set "top of next page" (tab binding) for every line of the outer table so every "section" starts on the new page. That is why even the first page starts on the second page (top of NEXT page for the first line is SECOND page).
About the last page... I have experienced problems when I used margins - when your page content is long, but not that long to break the page and you use a margin so the last row + margin should break the page, the last row is left on the last-1 page and the margin "appears" on the last page.
Hope this helps a bit, Otto

  • Pages '08 does not import MS Word Page-breaks

Pages '08 imports MS Word 2004 for Mac documents without the page-breaks.
I love the Mac interface and really want to stop using MS software. I was hopeful with all the good press about Pages '08. I downloaded the 30-day trial and immediately discovered this glitch.
I must be able to exchange 300+ page manuscripts with MS Office users. If Pages cannot import the page-breaks in these documents, it's a deal-breaker for me. I'm not going to go through and re-insert 300+ page-breaks everytime I have to edit and return a document.

I've had the same problem as Jeffrey ... but with Appleworks 6 documents. I can import a small amount of Appleworks pages with hard page breaks (Insert Page Break) but when I try to import the entire 300 pages of my manuscript into Pages '08 the page breaks move up and are not where they should be. Also, many of my large Appleworks text manuscript files (no graphics) will not open in Pages '08. On top of that, the line spacing in Pages is a big headache,. I still am unable to place 11 lines on the first page of each Chapter (as I have done before in Appleworks with no problem). Sometimes it will give me 11, next time it will be 12. Hitting return once often moves two lines of type rather than one. Very frustrating. I have followed instructions and even added styles with my own template. I also used "Exact" spacing of 24 pt with my 12pt type because using double spacing is not even close to what double spacing is in Appleworks using the exact same font (Times New Roman, 12pt w/ 24pt spacing.) Any help will be appreciated (before I go back to Appleworks).

  • Page break for Smartform with multiple main window on pages

    Hi Experts,
I have a requirement for printing 3 pages. The difference among the 3 pages is the main window part.
The main window contains not only internal table, also complicated texts like payment instructions etc.
The requirement is in each page, the data in internal table should be changed, also payment instruction should be changed accordingly.
    e.g:
    Main Window of Page 1
    Part 1 for Internal table
    VAT on ITEM ------- 4O-------60,00------0.00%-------EUR
    Part 2 for Payment Instructions
    Texts for Page 1
    Main Window of Page 2
    Part 1 for Internal table
    VAT on ITEM ------- 5O-------60,00------0.00%-------EUR
    Part 2 for Payment Instructions
    Texts for Page 2
    Main Window of Page 3
    Part 1 for Internal table
    VAT on ITEM ------- 6O-------60,00------0.00%-------EUR
    Part 2 for Payment Instructions
    Texts for Page 3
At first, I was using only one page 'Page1' with a variable page_no = 1 as default value, and use program line page_no = page_no + 1 as counter. when page_no = 2, use command for force page break to 'Page1', then under the command, change the internal table and payment instruction texts. when page_no = 3, ...
But I encountered an error saying:
    Runtime Errors         GEN_BRANCHOFFSET_LIMIT_REACHED
    Short text
Jump distance is too large and cannot be generated.
So I created 3 pages, with different main window M_window1, M_window2, M_window3 for each page. In page1, after printing the M_window1, page_no = 2, use command to go to page2, but page2 is never printed. I think this is because only one main window can exist in a smartform? but why smartform allows creating individual main window for different pages? what's the use of such main window?
By the way, what's the use of command for force page break? only work for one main window in a smartform?
Getting back to my requirement, I think I should still use one page and command for page break. I am trying to solve this.
    Thanks.
    Li Jun Da.

    Now I am using 3 pages: Page 1, Page 2, Page 3.
Page 2, Page 3 are copies of Page 1 with main window renamed as second window: mw 2, mw 3.
I also created 2 command nodes in main window of page 1: cmd 2, cmd 3.
cmd 2 is for page break to Page 2, cmd 3 is for page break to Page 3.
The second window mw 2, mw 3 in Page 2, Page 3 can be displayed.
Even though, I still can't understand how main window of pages (not 1st page) can work.

  • In MS Word, it is possible to prevent tables from breaking at page breaks.  So, if a table, when populated with data gets too big for the spae allotted on one page, the table will move in its entirety, to the next page. Can this be done in "Pages"?

I am trying to figure out ow to prevent tables from breaking along a row when there is a page break in "Pages".  This is done in MS Word by going under Table properties under "Rows".   I have a document with small three row tables and I want to keep the tables together and move to the next page in its entirety when there is a page break.  Help!

The table that I don't want to break between rows looks like this, except it fits the width of the page:
    quilt name
    picture of quilt
    source
    Size: XX; Difficulty Level: 3
I inserted a Inline Text box into the document, copied the table inside the text box, then pasted it through the document (which lists quilting projects).  When the table spans a page break, even when in an inline text box, the picture which is in the right hand column splits, as well as the information pertaining to the particular quilt.
Jerry - thank you for your help.  I tried to give you a "solved my problem" rating, but I am adjusting to the Mac slowly after 20+ years on a PC.

  • Frustration with Pages to ePub page breaks

Hi. I am losing my mind and hoping someone can help...
I am creating a non-traditional book (a catalog) in Pages, for use in both PDF and ePub formats (for iBooks on iPad). I CANNOT get the page breaks in Pages retained when exported to ePub and viewing on the iPad. I used the "ePub best practices" document as my starting template, then changed it by modifying the layout (margins, etc.), and modifying the styles to the font, color and style I want for look of the PDF version. At one point I had 80% or so of the page breaks in ePub, then after making some edits in the document and exporting again, many of the page breaks disappeared. I've also had headlines and such literally disappear in the ePub version.
The best thing would be to have a method of manually entering a page break in Pages that I KNOW would represent a page break in ePub. Is this possible?
    Please help!

After an insane amount of testing, here are the unwritten rules that I have uncovered (so far) regarding how Pages exports to ePub.
    - The items checked to be used in your TOC (whether you actually have one in your document or not) are what dictate the page/section breaks. This is hugely important because it effects EVERYTHING else, including formatting.
    - Using the option to "Use first page as book cover image" will do so, but will effectively suck it out of the actual book when it displays so that your book will "open" to whatever page is next. This sort of stinks if you would like your book to open to the actual Title Page. One solution to this is to turn this option OFF when exporting, and BE SURE to set the title of your book to one of the Paragraph Styles that you included in your TOC list (see above). This will put your title in the auto-generated TOC *created by your reader* (we'll call this the "Reader TOC"), but it will allow your first page to remain your Title Page and should prevent problems with your formatting.
    - It would seem that ANY time you start a new section in an ePub (Title, Preface, Chapter, etc… and not to be confused with a Section Break in the Pages document itself) it MUST start with a TOC marked style. If you don't you will start to find your formatting will change semi-randomly (I noticed it in left justified headlines becoming centered). You CAN manually modify the format of the text once you have set the correct style (if you want to change the justification or something).
    - Use of the Insert Page/Section Break menu options will have little or no effect in the ePub itself. You can keep them in your Pages document if you like, but *it is the TOC marked styles that completely dictate the section/page breaks in the ePub export.*
    - The auto-generated Table of Contents that Pages can create will be dropped in your ePub. The Reader TOC (the actual one used by the readers) will be recreated by the TOC marked sections as mentioned above. So, you might as well leave it out of a Pages document if you are only exporting to ePub. However, most Reader TOC's are not actually present in the text of the book, which is a little weird. To include a TOC in the book itself, you will need to manually create one (without page numbers since ePub's are reflowable), and then manually link it to "bookmarks" within your book. Be sure to use a TOC marked style for the header ("Table of Contents") so it starts on it's own page. Then go through your book, bookmarking sections that you want as TOC entries. The Link Inspector in the inspector pane is where you will find the bookmarking options. If, like me, you want to add, say, chapter titles as entries in your TOC, then find that title in your text, select it, then hit the "+" to add it as a bookmark. Once you have bookmarked all your sections, then go back to the text in your TOC, select an entry, and hyperlink it to one of your bookmarks. Repeat. The manual TOC will be visible in your book, and clickable to your chapters/sections.
    - Some formatting works, some doesn't. You might have to experiment here. I would stay away from anything too "non-standard", such as rules and borders. Margin padding seems to be okay, as does BOLD and ITALIC. Text size will also apply, but some readers reset this, so don't count on it.
    - If you can set a font beyond sans-serif or serif, I haven't found a way to do it. Readers are probably going to reset this anyway. Think "web-fonts" available in standard HTML at best.
    - You CAN include graphics, but they MUST be "inline" and NOT "floating". This is nice if you want to include some simple graphic ligatures to mark the end of a chapter or something.
    Hope it helps… Good luck!

  • How to insert a simple page break in an eBook while using pages to make the ePub?

    Hello,
I am using pages to make ePubs.
I have a problem: if I insert a page break in pages, it is deleted when I convert the file to ePub.
So I do not know how to start on a new page without adding a new chapter....
    Do you have a solution?
    best regards
    MD

You are taking about Pages '09? because this has been removed from Pages 5.
Clunky as it may be it does have some very powerful features.
You can capture as many pages into a Section as you want, which automatically sets up a document in depth. Once you have done the work, it is super fast to compose a new document from all the parts.
It is a shame that Apple didn't simply fix what needed fixing with this model, instead of ditching it, because I am really stumped how to set up documents in the current version.

    Hi Praveen,
    Thanks for the reply...
I think <?split-by-page-break?> syntax is used in a loop. In my case i need to check the condition.. if its true i need to insert Page break.
I have requirement Like as follows
    - In the Invoice Print Report I need to display “Invoice Appendix” On the Last Page of an Invoice.
    - If I am running for multiple Invoices then Invoice Appendix should print on last page of each Invoice.
As I'm using XMLP 5.6.1, i'm unable to use <?start@last-page:body?> syntax. So i'm trying to achive this as i'm explaing below.
    Invoice Header
    Invoice Lines
    end Of Lines
    If Invoice_Appendix_flag = 'Yes'
    ---------------<Page Break>------------------
    New Page(Or Last Page)
    Start Of Invoice Appendix
    End Of Invoice Appendix
    End Of Header

  • Page breaks inside repeating frame

    Hi,
I am developing a statutory report for India Localisation. In this report there is a repeating frame which has three sections inside. I want to ensure that each of these section prints on a new page all the time. Of course there will be some page wastage, but since the report is statutory it has a prescribed format which mandates this requirement. Each section is like a tabular column and it doesnt look good if it prints without any page break in between the sections.
Here is what i have tried, I have created three child frames inside the parent repeating frame and I tried to set page break after, page break before and page protect for each of these sections and I also tried various combinations of these 3 settings. But still I couldnot get it right.:-( It will be of great help to me if any one could suggest me a better approach.

    Hi,
the "page break" properties are only active in parent-child relationships. So if your frame1 is not expandable vertical, frame2 is no child object ob frame1 and so the property page break after of frame1 is not relevant for frame2. So change your layout, that frame2 is child of frame1 and frame3 is child of frame2, then the page break after will run as you expect. You can do this via the property vertical elasticity or via using an anchor between the frames.
    Regards
    Rainer
