Pages '08 is not a Word work alike.

I don't recall Apple advertising that Pages '08 is a Word clone or that it is intended to replace Word. Why is everyone expecting it to be?

People, please, let's put this to rest. iWork isn't an office killer, Apple knows it, Apple has no intent of making it into one. As Peggy said, we've hashed and rehashed this for two years or more. My take is unchanged...and I recently talked to an Apple rep who laid it out nicely.
In many places MS Office is a given in the workflow and nothing less than Office will do for the people who work there. If you do collaborative work with groups of people passing Word documents around - use Word (or GoogleWorks!). If your project manager will be looking over your cost analysis spreadsheet and then pass it on to his manager you better be using the same program - again, probably Excel.
OTOH there are lots of us who don't work and/or interact in an Office ecology and I happen to be one of them. About 90% of the work I do is passed on to others on paper or through PDF files. I collaberate via wp documents infrequently. In almost all that I do no one can tell or care what I use and that gives me the freedom to choose. iWork gives me the freedom to choose something other than Office.
Need Office? Sorry, Office or maybe NeoOffice or Google's apps are where you need to go. Don't need Office? Then why put on golashes, a parka, heavy gloves and a ski mask when all you really need is a light jacket.

  • CSS with page fragments does not seem to work

    Hi,
    I am using creator 2 update 1 and I have some problems setting styleClass to a page fragment, I read some older posts about this issue but I couldn't find a solution for this.
    I have a navigation fragment that holds simple hyperlinks inside.
    I want to give all the hyperlinks the same background-image so I create a new entry in the default resources/stylesheet.css of my project and try to set it to each hyperlink in its styleless entry in its properties.
    1. first you can't choose a styleClass for the fragment when clicking on (...) - it does not show any style class
    2. when I just set it by hand to the property , the creator does not have an effect on the hyperlinks (their style is not changed) , if I put for each hyperlink in its "Inline" style (property style) all the values that defined in the styleClass I want to use then the results are fine but this mean I need to take care of the style for each hyperlink alone and not use the styleClass ...
    Any ideas?

    OK, I found what the problem was: the URL to the background-image was wrong, only when I picked the image through the css editor it got the correct URL to the image and displayed it in all the hyperlinks

    Instructions for adding a word to the spell dictionary in Pages for iPad say to double-tap the word. At that point you're supposed to be given the option to "define" the word, which I take to be adding it to the dictionary.
    Double-tapping only gives me alternative spellings of the word. I don't get an option to define.
    What am I overlooking?

    Not working for me, Demo.
    Entering the words in settings would be cumbersome. I have a long document with many unfamiliar names and technical terms.
    In Pages with spellcheck on unrecognized words are underlined in red. Tapping once highlights they word in a pinkish box. Tapping twice brings up a list of alternative words in a graphic display rather a text suggestion with option to dismiss. Tapping outside the suggestions graphic cancels it but does not seem to reject the suggestions, I.e., not in the sense that you are then given the option of accepting the word into the dictionary.
    Help gives a procedure for doing this, but it does not work.
    The document I'm working on is a finished document. No composition or editing required. I just need to get it formatted for publication. Most of the words another recognized by spellcheck, and there are many, need to be enter into the dictionary.

    We used 4.3 as an effective tool for thesis production but in many ways it has become kind of a simplistic joke. Sad indeed and I wish there was some evidence they were remotely concerned. PeterBreis0807's response of "No" is spot on. We will continue to use 4.3 as long as it works as a time-saving substitute for Word.

  • Layout Options - Page Order Does Not Work Correctly

    I have a Photosmart C7280 All-in-One printer.  The Layout Option - Page Order does not work as expected.  The User Guide (page 95) states that the default for a multiple page document is to print first page first.  The manual states that to print last page first requires one to change the Page Order to "Back to Front".  For my Excel, Word, Internet Explorer and PDF pages, I need to leave the Page Order as "Front to Back" if I want the last page to print first.  This makes no sense.  In addition, I can't get my Quicken reports to print last page first no matter what I try.  Does anyone no why the Page Order does not work as expected for Excel, Word, IE and PDF, and does not work at all for Quicken?

    If you uncheck the "show" option, then the corresponding HTML for that item is not rendered on the page. Thus, when you try to inspect that item via APEX_APPLICATION.G_F02, it simply doesn't exist.
    One trick that I use when I want to have hidden items on the page, but not make them take up any space, is to concatenate them to items that will be visible.
    Using your query as an example, I would re-write it like this:

    Unfortunately, most of my advice is in the "hindsight is 20-20" category.
    First off, I would never have purchased the peripheral accessories until the 14 day return period had expired. Second, you learned the hard way what the "14 days" really means.
    Too bad you didn't do any homework, reading this and other forums and tech sites. Even word of mouth from others. That, more than anything could have steered you towards different phone choices from the get-go and I will leave that there with no further comment other than to say most of the issues you described have been discussed in this forum, ad nauseam.
    Once you got into the refurbished phone exchanges, that is where things really went haywire. What someone tells you over the phone is a sketchy proposition, and when it comes down to it, it's your word against theirs.
    I think Verizon tried to make it right, though. Remember, they don't make the phones. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.
    You stated yourself you were a satisfied Verizon customer before this. Had the first two phones performed as they should, you would still be a satisfied Verizon customer.
    Doubt any of that will make you any happier, but after you went through the effort of writing such a long post, I thought I'd try.

  • Pages 5 doc not showing comments when exported to Word

    I'm using Pages 5 and I like it, but am having a problem. When I try to export a Pages document with comments into Word format, the file looks good on my Mac using Quick View. I can see the comments. It also looks fine when I open it with Pages, the comments still show. But when I email it to someone using Windows, the document does not show any of the comments, not even the highlighting.
    I never had any problem with this using the previous version of Pages, where documents exported to Word format and the comments were visible.
    I have resorted to copy/pasting my comments, then saving as a PDF, which works, but is sort of clumsy. Is there a better way to do this with Pages 5?

    Thanks for the additional helpful information, Fruhulda. I didn't realize that they had removed important features in the so-called upgrade.
    It sounds as if Pages 5 will work for fast and easy tasks, but Pages 09 will be good to have for heavy-duty work. I guess this explains why Pages 5 didn't overwrite Pages 09 on installation. They are really two different apps now.

  • Xrm.Page Script Snapshot - Not Working

    I've installed the 2011 CRM SDK and am trying to go through the steps listed in the Read Me Word Document but I am hung up now. When I click the Xrm.Page Snap Shot I get the Dialog however when I click Get Data, It looks like it does something for a second
    but I never get the data to copy and paste also the copy to clip board button does not show up. Been fighting with this for a few hours now, I've tried to re-install a few times but still no success. 

    I have been able to make some progress I found that it works on entities with a sprocket icon but not on entities that have a brown folder in front of some pages, I'm not sure what the entity types mean. If anyone can shed some light.

    Checked to see how much free space there is on the startup disk lately?
    Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.

    If disk space is not the issue, booting in Safe Mode deletes system caches that may help.
    A Safe Mode boot takes longer then a normal boot so be patient.
    Once you see the Desktop, click the Apple menu icon top left corner of the screen.
    From the drop down menu click Restart.
    See if that makes a difference ...

    No, there is no need to re-purchase iWork. If it was installed from a retail boxed DVD, it needs to be reinstalled from the DVD.   • Page numbers are not generated correctly when print from Word to PDF

    Whenever I print my Word document to PDF, my page numbers do not reflect the page numbers shown in Print Preview.
    For example, I have a Word document with 10 pages and after generating it as PDF, the page number shows Page 1 of 1; Page 2 of 2; Page 3 of 3; ......Page 10 of 10.
    Please advise what may be the cause and how can I rectify this problem?

    I do have some sections breaks on the pages, however the pages are all shown in running sequence even on Preview page.
    It is the final generated document that has this problem.
    I emailed my colleagues my WORD document and ask them to generate to PDF and they have no issues printing the WORD to PDF and every pages were in running order.
    Any other advise?

  • Page Process Does Not Work When Column for APEX_ITEM.HIDDEN is not shown

    I have created a Report Region based on a SQl Query. In the query I have three columns that need to be within an array, but 2 of the 3 columns should not be displayed on the report. Therefore, I don't have Show checked for them in the Column Attributes of the Report Region.
    In my testing, if I don't display the columns that are within the arrays on the report and run the page process to insert records into a table, I receive the error of "no data found". In reverse, if I display the columns, my insert is successful.
    Is this how the arrays work? Or is there something I have not done correctly.
    Below is the query for the Report:

  • Crystal Report for VS2010 - The Go To Page function does not work

    When running a report into Crystal(VS2010), the Go To Page function does not work.  Typing in a page number and pressing Enter does not take you to that page.  The report remains on the current page. I'm not sure if there is suppose to be a button like the one in Crystal 8.5(VS2008).

    As long as you are using the CR assemblies for VS .NET, the viewer (Win) should look like this:
    Remember, the ActiveX viewer based on the Report Designer Component (RDC, referencing craxdrt.dll) is not supported in VS 2010.
