Pages 5 docs are unzipped packages - won't upload nicely

Just an FYI really.
Turns out Pages 5 documents are 'unzipped' packages. So they won't upload from browsers like Firefox - because they see the package simply as a folder. Safari seems to know to 'zip' a file during upload, but you end up with a zip file in your online system rather than a document. This in turn plays havoc with (for example) Apples Server 3 wiki software...
Server 3's wiki lets you upload most common document formats (e.g. including Pages 4.3) to the wiki - you get a page with a reasonable rendering of the document that you can scroll through and / or download.
At least on my system, attempts to upload Pages 5 documents result in an endless spinning device, under a heading that suggests that the wiki zipped up the file during the upload process.
Just to compound this - if you try to upload a file to the wiki using Firefox, clicking on open with a Pages 4.3 file highlighted takes you to the uploads widget. Clicking on open with a Pages 5 file highlighted 'opens' the folder and shows you the content....
Not had these problems since the early versions of iWork documents that were not zipped up...
Presumably the change back to unzipped packages is part of the 'iOS' compatibility thing... but not a helpful change at all.

All Pages v5 application on Mavericks, and Pages v5.5 on Yosemite write out uncompressed package folders. If you want to move these off of the OS X filesystem, then you need to right-click (two-finger tap) and choose compress document name (e.g. foo.pages.zip). Now you have a single file archive that travels well.
The release of Pages v5.5.1 on Yosemite brought with it a means to enable backwards document compatibility with Pages v5.2.2 on Mavericks.
By default, Pages v5.5.1 saves a document as a compressed archive — not a folder. This is a boon to those that need off-Mac filesystem support. There is no preferences override for this. It is this archive format that is not backwards compatible to Mavericks. However, there is now a File > Advanced > Change File Type menu hierarchy. The two choices are Single File (default archive format), and Package (folder). The first is good for non-Apple filesystems (e.g. Dropbox), and the second, a package folder, is the format that can be opened by Pages v5.2.2 on Mavericks.
When creating a new document, you must first save it before the above menu is enabled. Choosing Package with an open, single file document, will convert it in-place to a package folder within Pages. Recommend you hit File > Save again for good measure.

Pages docs are missing!!!

Hello - I had several docs in Pages in my iPad iOS7 and now they are all gone! I think it has something to do with Apples new iCloud Drive. I thought pages docs were supposed to be saved locally on the iPad!?

I Lost a bunch of files too. The. Pages iOS stopped syncing to iCloud drive and crashing constantly.I've been through a few AppleCare guys and two engineers. They can't figure it out. the truth is, this software is a disaster area: forget about its astonishing lack of features: the real issue is that you cannot trust it with your documents. Pages docs created on iPad won't sync with macbook pro

When I create a Pages document on my iPad version 1... it appears on my MacBook - but remains permanently in 'updating' status - I have some on there that were created several months ago and cannot be downloaded. If I create a doc on my MacBook, upload it to iCloud.. it syncs within seconds to my iPad.... but if I then edit it more on my iPad it appears edited on my MacBook, but again in permanent 'updating' status. Can anyone help...or will I have to make the trek to the Genius bar?

Try saving any documents that you can and then deleting them from each device where possible. Go to System preferences> iCloud> manage and delete any iWork documents that you see there. Then go to each device and turn off iCloud documents & data syncing on each.
Once everything has been removed, you can then re-enable document & data syncing on each device. Add back a couple of documents (do not add any documents that used the same name as any documents previously) and see how it goes. Once it appears to be working correctly, you can then add back all your documents.
Whilst it won't help you recover documents that have already become corrupt, can I suggest you get into the habit of backing up your documents in the cloud regularly.

'Pages' docs created on iPad1 won't open with iPad3

I use my iPad with my band for notes and occasional lyrics. I created 'Pages' documents on my iPad 1 and my MacBook Pro. Now that I have an iPad 3, previous documents will not open. Why?

Why? Hard to say. Are you using iCloud on the new iPad and is it setup on the new iPad?
You can try quitting Pages completely and then restart the iPad. If that doesn't work, reboot the iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Installed iCloud and now all Pages docs are missing. How do I recover them?

I installed icloud this morning. This evening, when I went to use Pages, I discovered that all of my documents are missing. How do I recover them from before I converted to iCloud? Or can I?

hmm, I knew I was missing something fairly obvious. I went into AppStore and the apps were there with an "accept" option rather than a price. I've started the download.
I've no idea if this means I'll be charged or not. I never got a screen with a price on it so hopefully not.

HT4942 While on the ICloud Page, none of my pages docs are visible.

Icloud set up on ipad and set to sync documents. All other apps, (mail, contacts and calender) syncing fine. However, when I click on the "iwork" icon, it just keeps bringing me back to install the Pages or Numbers applications. Any idea why the iwork application is not recognizing that I have already purchased this and have documents stored (theoretically) in the Cloud?

Yes sir, that was the case. However, I'm not sure what setting changed, but the document finally showed up in the IWorks icon on the ICloud page. So, now I'm at my last question. Although, I would love to know what, of the many things I experimented with, was the reason the document finally showed up under the IWork icon. Lord only knows. Thanks for the help though. While I've got your brain to pick (if you don't mind), being new to Apple products, do you have any suggestions for being able to print wirelessly from the Ipad to a wi-fi network?

It won't work in Layout mode documents but in Word Processor documents:
1. Add a Textbox and move it to the top right, turn off Textwrap
2. Insert a page number in the box
3. Select the Textbox: Menu > Arrange > Section Master > Move Objects to Section Master/Make Master Objects Selectable
4. Insert a Section Break on each page. It has to be a Section break otherwise editing the Master Objects will repeat on previous pages.

My "Pages" files won't upload

My pages files won't upload to my university site ever since I upgraded it about a week ago. Everytime I try to upload it the files that I created with pages are shown below. Has anyone else had this problem?

I have bought pages and it all was going well until I downloaded the update. Now my files (which are mainly brochures) won't show the pictures in opening screen. So I have over fifty documents and they all show the pages logo on them instead of the pics

Tupelo, there are many, many threads here in the Apple Discussions about the many issues with Pages 5, and the multitude of features that have been lost in this supposed "upgrade." Like Jerry, I'd recommend you get yourself back to Pages 4.3 until Apple comes to their senses.
So...first off: do you have Pages 4.3 still installed? If you do, it will be in an iWorks '09 folder in your Applications folder. If you bought Pages 4.3 on its own from the App store, your copy of Pages 4.3 will have been overwritten by the new Pages 5.
If you don't have the iWork '09 folder in your Applications folder, do you have a backup with it installed there? If so, you'll want to revert to that version. I believe that you can drag and drop the older version of Pages (and Keynote and Numbers if you have those as well); I'd recommend that you create a folder called "iWorks '09" in your Applications folder and stick them in that.
Also, if you have a reasonably current backup, you will be able to recover your documents created in Pages 4.3. Whatever you do, do NOT open them in Pages 5 - once you do, the features you may have used will be gone and reverting won't recover them.
You may also be able to revert to earlier versions, once you get Pages 4.3 back on your HD/or locate it and so you can use it to open Pages documents. In order to try that, in Pages 5, go to File->Export->Pages 4.3 document and then close Pages 5, and open Pages 4.3. Open the document you just exported. Now go to File->Revert and see if you can find an earlier, pre-Pages 5 version. If you can do that, you should be able to fairly painlessly recover all your messed up docs. Of course, if you have a current backup, it may be faster to simply recover the undamaged originals from the backup.
Pages 5, if installed on your system, will be the default for opening all .pages documents. You therefore have to do something to prevent that (Get Info and Change All won't stick). Either move Pages 5 entirely off your HD (and to move it, you'll need to put it into the trash first, as simply dragging it somewhere just creates an alias - once you drag it into the Trash, you can drag it to an external drive, for instance) OR you can create a disk image by sticking it in a folder and then using Disk Utility->File->New->Disk Image from Folder. Toss the Pages.app (v 5) in the trash and then any time you want to open Pages 5, simply click on the disk image. It turns itself back into a disk image when you quit. And it won't be the default app for .pages docs when it's a disk image. Or you can simply toss Pages 5 in the Trash entirely. The only reason I've kept my iWork 2013 apps as disk images is in case Apple actually does upgrade them to recover the lost features and perhaps changes its freebie policy along the way. Or...someone might send me a Pages 5 document. They can't be opened in Pages 4.3, so I'd need it then.

I also managed to read a few other discussions about Pages and files not being able to open. I actually went to the last back-up and restored the computer from that and everything seemed to work ok again, which is great!...advice from another discussion I think you may have been involved in PeterB. Thanks for the advice...also this advice, as I will make a note of trying to open using the Shift key if it happens again and see what happens...might be an easier first option than restoring from a back-up. Thans heaps for the help!
I was interested to read some of the other discussions where it was stated that Pages '09 seems to be a better option to use. I have both installed, so I will lkeep this in mind. Thanks heaps!

Why there are some metric without "Last Upload" in "All Metric" page?

I am developing a MYSQL Plugin. after I deployed it to agent, and add target to it. I found there is something strange for some metric collecting/uploading. And I test it on both OMS 10.2.0.4 and OMS 10.2.0.5, they have the same issue.
In page “All Metric”, not all of metrics have a value under column “Last Upload”. And if I click the metrics without “Last Uploaded”, some of them actually have data collected/uploaded and display it in UI. Then I am very confused why those metric had no "Last Upload" in All Metric page? Does it mean those three metric only collected/uploaded once? Does it mean there are something wrong with my XML? or what?

If the 'Last Upload' timestamp value shows "-", it means data for particular metric(s) never got uploaded from EM Agent. This can happen if:
- Metric collection is disabled
- Metric is defined as 'Real-Time metric'
- Metric is defined for scheduled collection, however, due to some parsing error, EM Agent
You mentioned -

By clicking on the metric link (on 'All Metrics' page), you are performing a real-time collection - i.e., Agent is informed to collect the data and provide it to the caller APIs so that the data can be displayed on UI. Such a data displayed is not from EM Repository. Hope this addresses your confusion with - "...why those metric had no "Last Upload" in All Metric page...". If you want to see the history data, you need to expand the particular metric and click on the sub-links (which are the non-kyy metric-columns that you would have defined in the target-type metadata xml file)
Since you mentioned that when you are doing a real-time collection (by clicking on the metric link on 'All Metrics' page), you are retrieving data, I don't think there should be anything wrong in the metadata xml file. Yes, it can happen that EM Agent didn't find an entry in default-collection OR there was parsing issue for the entry in default-collection, which may cause the metric to be assumed as 'real-time' by EM Agent. However, looking at the example that you specified, don't think that should be the case.
Can you check
1. the 'Collection Schedule' and 'Upload Interval' mentioned for these metrics on 'All Metrics' page ? Is this
same as what you specified in the default-collection xml file ?
2. Are there any errors reported in emagent.trc / emagent.log for metric "ProcessList_Count" ?

Check to see if you are up to date on iOS by going to Settings > General > Software Update and update it if it needs it. Then update Pages one that is done by going to the App Store.

Microsoft Word docs are formatted wrong when opened in pages

Hi,
I‘ve been using pages from the very beginning and I am very happy with it (still waiting for "auto-save", though), but I do have one problem:
often when I open word .docs in pages they are formatted wrongly.
This happens especially with tables and pictures in tables.
If the pictures are in one line in MS Word, they often jump to the next line in pages.
Or the margins are wrong or both.
If I open it in Open Office, for example, they are fine.
Is there anything I can do about it?
Will it be better in pages 09?

Hi, I have a similar problem with Word (.doc) files containing a Table converted to Pages. Having read that Pages can convert from Word, I bought iWork instead of Office for Mac. I need to work on Word documents sent to me as attachments and find that Tables do not survive the conversion to Pages properly. Often the text within a Table is shown but, if a lengthy text (i.e. more than a page), the Table does not continue to the next page and the text becomes hidden below the visible Table. If I cut out some text from the middle of the Table, the missing text is revealed, progressively from the bottom of the Table. In other words, the text is there in the document but cannot be seen if it is more than can be fitted on one page. Any ideas on how to sort this? I am not encouraged that iWork 09 does not appear to help in a similar problem to mine.

When I convert a Word doc to PDF, some of the page numbers are missing.

I'm using Word 2003 and Acrobat Pro 7.0. When I print out the Word doc all the page numbers are there, but when I concert to PDF most of them are missing. Any suggestions?

How are you converting? What are the job settings for the PDF conversion? What if you print to the Adobe PDF printer?

I would simply like to insert two half-circles or half-moons in a Pages doc. There are no such graphics in the "shapes" area. So, ideas on how I can get those half-circles in my doc?

I would simply like to insert two half-circles or half moons in a Pages doc. The current "shapes" does not include half-circles or half-moons. Ideally, I'd like to be able to apply my colour, lines, etc., etc to these half circles and size them. I am not a graphic artist.

1. Go down to the bottom left corner of the window and increase the zoom to 400%
2. Toolbar > Shapes > Circle
3. Menu > Format > Make Editable > click on the bottom red dot > delete
4. Click on the left side dot, there are two handles which pull out the curves.
5. Drag down a guide from the ruler to the tip of the top of the handle.
6. Click on the bottom handle tip and shift drag it up until it is tucked back into the red dot.
7. Do the same to other corner.
Now keep a copy of this in a document and copy paste where you need it.
