Pages5:Saving Docs as Word docs?

Pages '09 didn't force you to save your doc in Pages format. You could choose to save it as a Word, or whatever. Now, in the new Pages, it seems you are forced to save your doc in Pages format; you can only obtain a Word copy by exporting the doc after you've saved it, so you end up with two copies - one in Pages, one in .docx. Most of my clients can't open a Pages doc, so now I have two copies of everything unless I want to manually trash the Pages originals. Is there a way to just save any doc you're working on in another format besides Pages, without exporting?

Actually in Pages '09 it was Save a copy as Word:
You created both a .pages document and exported a .doc copy.
Which is a good thing because not keeping a .pages version was bound to lead to trouble because the export is not perfect.
Real if you want to work in .doc, use Word or a Word clone. Even TextEdit will open and save in Word .doc if you don't have complex formatting.
Pages is not a Word substitute if you have to constantly transfer files back and forth.

It appears if you write the document with newer version Pages and try to open it older version Pages.

I teach Continuing education classes to Real Estate agents and I need to issue them certificates at the class, whihc need to be signed by me and it needs to contain their info on the certificate. The certificate is currently saved in a word format. What i'm trying to accomplish is to do a "mail merge " ( as some classes i have as many as 150 attendees) for the document, digitally sign each one with my signature on the certificate and then e-mail it out to the respective attendees. can this be done? if so How?

This is the step that I took after inputting my signature.
On the right, after saving my document, I click "Get Others to Sign."  I was confused because it says that it's powered by EchoSign.  Like I stated before, my clients are able to sign this document when I send it to them, but it is returned to me with their signature (not in the signature field, but at the end of the document), and my signature is missing.  I tested this on myself - my signature is missing when they receive it.

I wrote an 2500 words assignment and saved in Microsoft word 97-2003 and by mistake replaced with another word file. How can i retain my original work?

    Hi,
Does this happen to all 97-2003 Word files?
Word 2013 now has lots of updates compared with earlier version of Word, lots of features have been updated. Use Word 2013 to open documents created in earlier versions of Word (Word 97-2003 format), you will probably encounter unexpected problems,
expecially for those heavily formatted files.
We would suggest you to convert your document to the Word 2013 file format, then you will be able to access the new and enhanced features in Word 2013.

Not sure if any of the alternatives to Office (word) for Mac are near the feature set you require.
There are a few listed here at this page, in some ways aren't exactly like Office or Word; the feature you seek may (or may not) exist. I'd try & see about neooffice compatibility...

  • Maverick: doc saving function in Word for Mac

I just downloaded Maverick for my 2010 iMac. I'm happy with it but for one problem: saving documents in my Word for Mac 2008 is a royal pain.
Instead of the good old one-step save process under Snow Leopard's Word for Mac, Word/Maverick now requires a three-step save process: a "Save as" window followed by a "Replace" window and sometimes followed by a window saying "X doc already exists. Would you like to replace it?"
Well, duh. Anyone else having this problem? Any fixes for it? I looked for a patch from Microsoft but no luck.
    Thanks and Happy New Year.

  • Saving PDF as Word .doc or .rtf portrait landscape weirdness

    Hello all,
I have a PDF that was originally created in Word (by someone, not sure who) and I
have been asked to modify the text a bit. I began doing that in Acrobat 7.0.9 -
but kept running into font encoding issues, and I'm almost dangerously clueless
when using Acrobat so I elected to save the PDF out of Acrobat as a Word document
    .doc -
The problem is that upon opening the Word document, the page orientation has
flipped on its side - both the text and the pages are flipped 90 degrees now to
    Landscape mode.
Any ideas why this happened or how to fix it?
    Thanks!!

  • Mavericks - Word for Mac, saving docs problem after installing Mavericks

I have Word for Mac. Since installing Mavericks, when I download a document, I am unable to 'save as'  to anywhere but downloads folder. When I select the folder I want save the doc to, 'save' greys out. Help!

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

  • MS Word. Can't view normal window size of saved docs.

I have  Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac. (running Mavericks on my MacBookAir)  Recently, when I create a document and save it to Docs or Desktop I have problems viewing it later.  When I re-open it I only get a very reduced size window in upper left corner.  If I try the green button nothing happens.  The drag function arrows show but do not function.  The window sizing just seems disabled.

Upper left quadrant of screen, that's correct, Eric.    The document appears as a normal window, except that it's only about 2.25" x 3.25",  and it can't be expanded by any means - arrows, dragging, anything.  So it's almost impossible to work with the document at all.
    Thanks for asking.

  • How do I fix MS Office crashes on saving doc file (docx OK)?

I am running OX 10.8.2 and MS Office 2011. I know, the latter is my first mistake but I need it for work. I ran an updater for Office yesterday (before which it was running to its usual standards). Now I can save docx files fine but if I open a .doc file and try to save it the program freezes ('MS Word not responding'). I have deleted the plist file and all of the autorecovery files. I ran the latest OS firmware update today and checked for more MS updates. There are none available. Nothing has helped. Any suggestions are welcomed. I know that I can resave stuff as docx files as a temporary workaround but I need to send .doc files to some colleagues who have not updated. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If you are sure it's the update, then you can either report it to Microsoft via feedback option off Help in Word and wait for a fix or just uninstall the current version of MS Office you have and install the old version back (the one you have on the CD.  However, be aware that when you do this, if you're using Outlook for your email, your main identity will be upgraded as part of that Service Pack install you did.  When you install the old version back, you won't be able to run Outlook with that upgraded identity.  The only way to fix this that I know of is to delete the Microsoft User Data folder in your Documents folder.  However, when you do this, IT'LL ALSO DELETE YOUR EMAIL AND ACCOUNT PROFILE out of Outlook.  If you must do this to fix your issue, then BEFORE YOU UNINSTALL OFFICE run an Export of your email and other info out of Outlook and save that so you can import it back after the reinstall.

  • Photosmart Premium C310a scanner is saving docs as .xps instead of .pdf

Docs scanned are saved as .xps will not print. Setting is to scan document to pdf. this just started after reinstall. Receipts and other docs saved as JPEG file print perfectly. tried newly scanned  and previously scanned docs - none will print.

    Hi momx4guys,
Thank you for the reply, and apologies for the lateness of mine, I was just being thorough
I will suggest that you start by running the HP Print and Scan Doctor. I would suggest running it for both Fix Printing and Fix Scanning and see what it has to offer.
If it is not able to resolve the issue, I would suggest clearing out your Temp folder (I realize it says it's for Windows 7, but the steps are the same for Vista) and then performing a Level 3 Uninstall to remove all of the HP software, and then downloading the latest version of your Photosmart C310a's software from HP's site and installing from that. If you use Internet Explorer to download the software make sure when it asks if you'd like to Run or Save that you choose Save.
Once this is done, you should have the right options again
