Painting issue with swing titlebar

Hi,
I had already posted this but no body replied so I am posting it again hoping somebody might reply to this now.
In my swing application I wanted a custom titlebar, so I created my own RootPaneUI by taking most of the code from MetalRootPaneUI to get what I wanted.
In order to make my titlebar visible I had to call:
frame.setUndecorated(true);
frame.getRootPane().setWindowDecorationStyle(JRootPane.FRAME);
The major issue I am facing now which sounds very weird to me is with the painting of the window. When I start the application sometimes (not always), I see the frame being stuck to the top left corner of the monitor, when I move the mouse over the toolbar/menubar, the frame starts painting the icons of underlying IDE like eclipse or IntelliJ over my application. It seems like a painting issue which is really a very strange behaviour.
This issue does not happen with windowslookandfeel and also works fine for MetalLookAndFeel when the JFrame is decorated to show window decorations(windows titlebar) not the look and feel one(custom titlebar).
I wanted to know if its me who is doing something wrong or is it a swing bug. Is there a way to fix this issue. I searched a number of forums but couldn't find an answer to it.
Thanks in advance.

Hello @Andre_Uhres:
In my application, I am using swing application framework (JSR 296) and I have a splash screen(JFrame) which loads some configuration data and then shows a modal login dialog on top of it. On successful login the login dialog and splash is disposed and the main application frame shows up.
The job of showing splash screen and logging in the application was being done in the main/initial thread. I apolgoize for not being able to provide a sample runnable code because the issue is seen only with my application and not with any other demo programs and it was not quite possible for me to put that huge code here.
public static void main(String args[])
SplashFrame.start();
//Launch the main application
Application.launch(ApplicationMain.class); // swing application framework would launch the frame in the invokeLater method.
class SplashFrame
   public void start()
        // create a splash and show it
       // load the configurations
       // show login dialog
       // on successful login dispose splash and login
}I eventually moved this code into SwingUtilities.invokeLater() but even this didn't help me. I still see the same issue.
public static void main(String args[])
// or use invokeAndWait
SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable(){
SplashFrame.start();
//Launch the main application
Application.launch(ApplicationMain.class); // swing application framework would launch the frame in the invokeLater method.
}I also tried doing this:
  RepaintManager.setCurrentManager(new RepaintManager()); as I read in some forums that sometimes RepaintManager might need to be overwritten to resolve some painting issues.
FYI: I am using JDK 1.6.0_17
In spite all these, I still see the same issue. Any help much appreciated.
Thanks

  • Is there an issue with Swing on Windows 7?

    Hi,
    I'm running the latest version of Java on Windows 7. "java -version" returns the following:
    java version "1.6.0_21"
    Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_21-b07)
    Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 17.0-b17, mixed mode, sharing)
    However, when I try to run the JDialog example at "http://download-llnw.oracle.com/javase/1.5.0/docs/api/" (JDialog | How to Make Dialogs | The DialogDemo Example), it is not being painted correctly.
    I have a dual monitor setup. The display adapter is an NVIDIA GeForce FX5200. Is this a Windows 7 issue, or is something going wrong with my display adapter?
    Thanks very much.

    In short, components are not being painted fully or at all. If I mouse over the dialog (which I'm guessing forces a repaint), sometimes a given component will appear. In any case, it's not subtle. You would definitely notice it if it were occurring.
    Thanks for having a look though. I guess I will try re-installing the JRE or research possible issues with my video card.

  • Report painter issue with displaing a month budget

    Hi,
    I have a problem with making report in report painter.
    I want to display a month budget of cost element for the one particular cost center.
    For example: Iu2019ve putted two characteristics in one row, a set (which contains cost element number) and cost center. In column Iu2019ve placed these characteristics : period, value type and fiscal year.
    The main issue is that the report displays only u201C0u201D even when there are some assets on that cost element for that cost center.
    Of course when I remove characteristic u201CCost Centeru201D from a row, I will see some non u201C0u201D values in my report. I used CCSS table in my report and KSTAR field in the set.
    How can I make report showing assets for cost elements for a particular cost centers? Of course I would like to have more than one such u201Ccost elementu201D-u201Ccost centeru201D pair in my report.

    Hi folks , hi Apple team
    this bugy update costs many hours to check this out and find a solution ...
    and now im read that the "great" apple distribute bugy updates with the same version 004, correct the bug in the background and do nothing to solve this problem for the affected users. Apple this was no great work. Im a developer and now im, asking me if a mac is the right developing platform
    here is what i mean:
    macsbod:soft sbode$ /usr/libexec/java_home -v 1.6 -exec java -version java version "1.6.0_51" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_51-b11-456-11M4508) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.51-b01-456, mixed mode)
    macsbod:soft sbode$ /usr/libexec/java_home -v 1.6 -exec java -version java version "1.6.0_51" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_51-b11-457-11M4509) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.51-b01-457, mixed mode)
    if you have the 4508 version, you have the bugy update and you must manually load and install the update with the correct java again :
    10.7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
    10.6
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1573
    Apple, why do you dont offer official over software updates a fix for this bugy update ???
    Cheers

  • Issues with Swing Timer

    I am currently updating some code in one of my programs. What it currently does is take some parameters and puts those values on a socket for the server to interpet. I then turn on a Swing Timer to listen on the socket for a response from the server. Everytime I get a response, I update a progress bar. That code currently works.
    What I am trying to do now is extend that code. Once the Swing Timer function completes (my progress bar reaches 100%), I want to send another request to the socket to repeat the tasks for a slightly different situation. However, my main function is now checking to see if the timer is finished, which looks like its preventing the timer from executing at all. Any suggestions?
    Some pseudo-code, sorry that I don't have the real thing on me at this current time.
    ListIterator iter = list.listIterator();
    while( iter.hasNext() ) {
    if( !timer.isRunning() ) {
    do stuff
    timer.start();
    Then inside my timer actionListener
    read first byte
    if(byte == 0)
    do stuff
    update Progress Bar
    else
    timer.stop()
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    This is a guess because your pseudocode is even hard to comprehend...
    A Swing Timer executes on the EDT. If your "main function" is running on the EDT, your timer will never fire and your screen will freeze.
    Even if your main function is not running on the EDT, it seems like you're reading from a Socket within the Timer event, which is on the EDT? If the server is slow or not responding, your GUI will freeze.

  • Issue with Report painter report

    Hi Gurus
    I need your help with an issue with one of our report painter reports. I have created a new report with Fiscal Year, Ledger, Company code, and Account number range in General data selection. The report row has field Segment and each period corresponds to one period of the fscal year. In here, I have selected Period and Record type 0 as characteristics. The basic key figure is KSL for second currency.
    I am able to save the report but when I execute it, I get the error that
    *Characteristic GJAHR cannot be combined with key figures*
    Can someone please help me as why I am getting this error?
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Shalu

    Hi
    I think you have to rechek the genral data selection setting , related to fiscal year.
    had u defaulted the fiscal year or used variant for fiscal year
    Thanks

  • Having issues with painting in Photoshop CS5, can you help?

    Hi,
    I'm having issues with painting. At the end of a brushstroke (not the stroke option), I see a little "dot" that appears, instead of a fine end. Do you know what I'm talking about, and how to fix it?
    Thanks!

    This may sound strange, but try starting your brush strokes at the top of the page.  That way the tendency is for the stylus tip to lift at the end of the stroke.  Going bottom to top tends to push the tip into the tablet.   You could also look at Brush Shape Dynamics (F5).  It looks like you have Size jitter set to pen Pressure, but set the minimum siz to 0% - if not already set so.  Then it is a matter of lots of practice, and perhaps making full use of the CS5 rotate screen feature (r) to keep your brush strokes at whatever is the optimum angle for you.

  • Issue with row/column text lengths in report painter

    Hi Gurus,
    I have created a report painter report with formatting of the row/column length text as medium, but for one FS item/GL Account the report when executed still picks up only the short text length. I am not sure how this can be resolved.
    Any ideas is appreciated.

    Applied OSS Note 360096 and it worked. Thanks for all your help.

  • Performance Issues with Photoshop CS6 64-Bit

    Hello -
    Issue at hand: over the course of the last few weeks, I have noticed significant issues with performance since the last update to PS CS6 via the Adobe Application Manager, ranging from unexpected shut downs to bringing my workstation to a crawl (literally, my cursor seems to crawl across my displays). I'm curious as to if anyone else is experiencing these issues, or if there is a solution I have not yet tried. Here is a list of actions that result in these performance issues - there are likely more that I have either not experienced due to my frustration, or have not documented as occuring multiple times:
    Opening files - results in hanging process, takes 3-10 seconds to resolve
    Pasting from clipboard - results in hanging process, takes 3-10 seconds to resolve
    Saving files - takes 3-10 seconds to open the dialog, another 3-10 seconds to return to normal window (saving a compressed PNG)
    Eyedropper tool - will either crash Photoshop to desktop, or take 5-15 seconds to load
    Attempting to navigate any menu - will either crash Photoshop to desktop, or take 5-15 seconds to load
    Attempts I've taken to resolve this matter, which have failed:
    Uninstalled all fonts that I have added since the last update (this was a pain in the ***, thank you Windows explorer for being glitchy)
    Uninstall application and reinstall application
    Use 32-bit edition
    Changing process priority to Above Normal
    Confirm process affinity to all available CPU cores
    Change configuration of Photoshop performance options

  • Focus issue with CardLayout (Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition 1.4.0_01)

    I am having an issue with focus and CardLayout with Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition 1.4.0_01. I have created a small sample application to illustrate my problem. In general, I am trying to create a "Wizard" that the user will enter information and then press a "Next" button to proceed to the next step.
    When the first card is displayed, the focus is on the first text field as expected.
    When I go to the next card by clicking "Next", the focus is not on the text field that has requested it (through the requestFocusInWindow method). The focus is on the "Cancel" button, which is the next component to receive focus after the "Next" button on that panel. I do notice that if I use my mouse to bring focus to the window the text field will gain focus.
    Similarly, when I proceed to the last card, the focus is not on the "Finish" button until the mouse moves over the window.
    Is there something I am doing wrong or is there a bug with focus and CardLayout?
    One other problem I have noticed is that the buttons no longer respond to the "Enter" key press and instead respond to the space bar. Any suggestions as to why this is the case?
    Thanks,
    S.L.

    Manfred,
    Thanks for your reply. I tried requestFocus() and it gives the same results. Also Sun's 1.4.0 API (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/api/) mentions the following with respect to the requestFocus() method in the JComponent class:
    Because the focus behavior of this method is platform-dependent, developers are strongly encouraged to use requestFocusInWindow when possible.
    That is why I used requestFocusInWindow.

  • Issue with setting float point in Textfield

    hi
    i have an issue with float input in a textfield.
    what i want to do is.
    when the user start typing numerics it should accept from right hand side and keep appending value from right hand side.
    for ex
    if i want to enter 123.45
    user starts entering
    1 then it should display as 0.01
    2 then it should display as 0.12
    3 then it should display as 1.23
    4 then it should display as 12.34
    5 then it should display as 123.45
    to achive this i have written the code as below

    it is very urgent for me pls help immediately
    thanks in advance

    Hi camickr
    i learned how to format the code now, and u also responded for my testarea problem , iam very much thankful to u, and now i repeat the same problem what i have with a text field.
    actually i have window with a textfield on it and while end user starts entering data in it , it should be have as follows
    when the user start typing numerics it should accept from right hand side and keep appending value from right hand side.
    first the default value should be as 0.00 and as the user starts entering
    then it is as follows
    for ex
    if i want to enter 123.45
    user starts entering
    1 then it should display as 0.01
    2 then it should display as 0.12
    3 then it should display as 1.23
    4 then it should display as 12.34
    5 then it should display as 123.45
    i hope u will give me quick reply because this is very hard time for me.

  • Issue with MSSQL server connectivity from ODI 10.1.3

    Hi,
    In one of the interface we are populating data to target table in MSSQL server version 2005.
    The physical topology connection results successful.
    Since so long there is no problem and it is running successful. But suddenly I'm facing issues with this.
    I cannot see teh datastores under the model created for this table. When expanding the model, when trying to reverse the model or when I am trying to save any changes in the package I am getting the below error.

    the "sqljdbc.jar" file is there in place "<ORACLE_HOME>/oracledi/drivers"
    Java version: jdk1.5.0
    There is no change in source or target db. Please help me to fix this issue

    Hi,
    Thanks for the reply. The link is helpful and its the same what is there in the environment.
    "The JDK version is 1.5 and JRE version is 1.4.2."
    But, this was working fine till last week. I am worried, if the issue is due to version compatability why we were not facing this issue before. There is no changes in the environment since go live of this interface.
    Thanks,

  • Z10 Issues with GMail Imap / Microsoft Active Exchange

    Hi,
    I have seen lots of posts coming in on here and on crackberry.com about issues with emails. But I couldn't find any posts on the issues that I am having.
    Just purchased a new Z10, coming from a BB 9900.
    I would like to setup my gmail account on here but I am getting unexpected results. I have tried many different ways, gmail, imap, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and pop3.
    What I find different from everyone is that I have a bunch of filters set up that auto direct some emails away from the inbox and into labels (folders).  So I know things have changed from the 9900, but the way it happened on there was that a new email would show up in my unified inbox on the BB whether or not it was filtered. Then after reading it, I would have to search for it because it wouldn't actually be stored in the inbox. Which I was fine with.
    We'll have my email description setup as "Personal"
    Issues that I am having:
    Imap set up:
    - When I go from hub to my "Personal" box, it is a duplicate of my inbox. Looks the same as my inbox in mail.google.com, all nice and dandy.
    - Emails that go directly to my inbox show up nice and quick and give me a notification in the hub etc.. that an email has shown up.
    - Now when I receive an email that is being filtered. Gmail.com has it right away in my labels. So I know it's there. I can wait the 15/30 minutes that is setup for the sync, but I never get a notification of the email. If I go to the folder (by clicking on the drop down by the email description) then it shows up there with the yellow mail saying that it's a new mail. But there still isn't a notification saying I got a new email.
    So that's IMAP.
    M$ Exchange ActiveSync set up:
    - Initially, going straight to my personal box from the hub makes it look somewhat like what it did on my 9900. Inbox, and filtered messages all showing up in the default view.
    - If I receive a NEW (not part of a conversation) message that is/is not being filtered it shows up in this default view and I get a notification in the hub.
    - Once I read that email, then go back to the default view. IF it is a msg in the inbox, it disappears and the only way I can find it is by going to the drop down then to the Inbox. But this seems to be random, sometimes it stays, sometimes it disappears. Also, if it gets moved directly to the inbox and I get a reply to that message I don't get a notification for a new email.
    - If the email is a filtered email, it stays in the default view.
    - Now if I get an email that is part of a conversation to a filtered email, I don't get a notification that I have a new email, but if I go to it from the hub, it's marked as a yellow mail symbol stating that it is new. Read that email, it stays in the default view.
    So that's M$ EAS.
    Email:
    *******@gmail.com, so not a Paid Account or anything, just a regular gmail account. IMAP settings turned on and setup.
    Hub Settings:
    Display Style: conversation
    Display order: name, subject
    display message count: on
    display new message indicator: on
    show filed messages: on
    show sent messages: off
    Download images automatically: off
    delete message confirmation: off.
    Oh when I tried the gmail setup I believe it just used the same settings as IMAP. Pop3. just a disaster, all my messages were brought in (sent/receieved) marked as unread. Won't even bother with Pop3.
    I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong with my setups, or that this is the way it is designed. I really don't want to have to check each folder everytime to see if have a new email. And I don't want to change my gmail setup so that nothing is filtered. I thought I had solved it with the M$ EAS but with the random moving of messages to other directories, it's a no go aswell.
    If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for me it would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    I'm the author of the article linked to above.  I appreciate the reference, but I don't think my article solves the OP's particular issues.  To date, I've not found a way to enable notifications on new content in subfolders.  I think this is a limitation in the BlackBerry 10 email client.
    Since the paint is still wet on this OS, we can expect to see some improvements in forthcoming service releases.  CalDAV for example is known by BlackBerry to be broken with Google Calendar.  No ETA to fix at present.  BlackBerry will have to address that, and soon.
    I don't yet know if OS 10 is going to gain the traction the BlackBerry needs to survive in the market.  If it does, I suspect we will see some third party email apps appearing in BlackBerry World in the future, with enhanced IMAP functionality.  There's some precedent for this and we've seen similar happen on other mobile platforms.  In any case, until BlackBerry does some email client rewrting, or an enterprising developer plugs the gap, I think the OP's niggle is going to remain.  At the time of writing, BlackBerry World is showing a White Screen of Death.  Figures.
    One thing I'd urge all Google Apps users (especially of free accounts) to bear in mind is that Google will be pulling the plug on ActiveSync in the very near future.  I've blogged about this in more detail, in a followup to my previously-mentioned post: Gmail + Google Apps on the BlackBerry Z10.
    I hope this clarifies the position, even though the reality is less than satisfactory.

  • Oracle10g Jdbc Drivers issue with EJB on Weblogic 7

    Hi there,
    We are facing a critical issue on production environment related to Oracle jdbc drivers.
    We have a J2EE application with swing client. We are using MVC framework where client calls go to stateless session bean which redirect it to specific POJO which then uses Entity Beans for persistence.
    We have following environment.
    JDK1.4.2, Weblogic 7 with SP5, Oracle10g on AIX 5.2
    Now the problem is that we were using Oracle 8 jdbc driver classes12.zip for our application. Everything was working smoothly. Recently we moved our weblogic and oracle Servers machines locations, after that movement we started to get an exception when weblogic initializing connection pool that makes connection to a different oracle10g database. Oracle supports ask us to upgrade the jdbc driver. So we moved to 10g driver ojdbc14.jar but during testing one functionality is failing with a exception where rest of application seems to be working fine. The exception occurs when we try to post a record and during the creation of a child entity bean the transactions rollback for some unknown reasons. Using the old oracle8 classes12.zip driver the same code working fine again. We have also tried the classes12.zip driver of Oracle10g but error persist. I have checked the code and deployment descriptors but they seems fine. If i comment the creation of that particular entity bean the parent bean get created successfully and transaction commit successfully. Please also note that we have not created any relation b/w both entity beans not even in the database. They both are sort of independent.
    Can any one having any idea why Oracle10g driver not working or what might be the problem with our configuration. Any help will be highly appreciated. Please see the Exception below.

    weblogic 7? when the current production version is 10.2?
    don't play yourself. fund a project to upgrade your weblogic version.
    can't tell based on what you've posted, and I fear that the stuff you'll have to post to get an answer here will be too much. this isn't a good place to come for an answer.
