Painting with JSF Designer

The JSF Designer seems to continually hang when opening in Design mode (becomes completely unresponsive). No errors are reported, and JDeveloper just quits responding. I am using a custom view-handler in my application which works fine at run time.
Is this a known issue? Is there a way to make the JSF pages open in Source view instead of design view by default? This may be enough of a work around for now.

Bobby,
I've had no issues whatsoever with the JSF Design view. However, you can set it to use the source view by default. In Tools -> Preferences, select the "File Types" node on the left, then click the "Default Editors" tab. You can then change the default editor for JSP Source file type
Hope this helps,
John

  • Question about app design with JSF

    I'm new to JSF and have been using MyFaces in combination with Tomcat and Hibernate to write a web application for my institution. We have a fairly clean model implemented and our hibernate persistence layer is also looking good. I'm running into trouble making a clean view layer with JSF. Namely, I can't seem to avoid creating lots of classes to get a given job done.
    As a for instance: I have quite a few enumerations representing various units of measure, conventions, etc. To persist them in the db with hibernate, I needed to make a converter class to convert the Enums to strings. I wrote a class using generics that could convert any enum to strings appropriately given a class object you pass into the constructor. Well, hibernate needs a no arg constructor so it can instantiate one automatically, so I had to make a subclass of this converter for each enumeration I have in my model. Couldn't see a way around it.
    Now, using JSF, I'm needing to implement another converter for enumerations in order convert back and forth from strings. Same deal. I could use a single class to get the job done. The problem is, in the faces-config.xml where you define your converter classes, it doesn't look like I can have 2 converters defined with the same converter class.
    i.e.:
    <converter>
    <converter-for-class>commons.astronomy.Epoch</converter-for-class>
    <converter-class>tools.webapp.EnumConverter</converter-class>
    <property>
         <property-name>enumClass</property-name>
         <property-class>java.lang.Class</property-class>
           <default-value>commons.astronomy.Epoch</default-value>
    </property>
    </converter>
    <converter>
    <converter-for-class>commons.astronomy.VelocityConvention</converter-for-class>
    <converter-class>tools.webapp.EnumConverter</converter-class>
    <property>
         <property-name>enumClass</property-name>
         <property-class>java.lang.Class</property-class>
            <default-value>commons.astronomy.VelocityConvention</default-value>
    </property>
    </converter>MyFaces seems to associate both Epoch and VelocityConvention with the second configuration of the EnumConverter class. So, the long and short of it is, here I am again having to write yet another class PER enumeration.
    I could go on with another example, but this post is getting lengthy, so I'll make it short. Some of my model classes are not java beans because it would create inconsistencies to only set some of the properties one at a time. I.E. I need to call a method obj.set(a, b) not obj.setA(a); obj.setB(b). My first thought was to create a custom component for obj so that I can turn 2 (or more) input fields into 1 set call. There are other advantages in reusability, etc.
    Unfortunately, I have several of those situations and am finding myself leaning toward implementing yet MORE classes to make a separate component for each such instance of a non-java bean set of properties.
    What it all comes down to is I seem to be having a class explosion and I'm wondering if there's a better approach to this whole thing. How do you organize a view layer that talks to a model having enumerations and not quite javaBean pattern properties without a class explosion? That's the question I guess.
    Thanks for your patience in reading all of that and any help you can provide!
    brian

    No, I don't have tables of values. I have a java 1.5 enumeration, like for instance:
    public enum VelocityConvention {
       RELATIVISTIC,
       REDSHIFT;
    }and a class Velocity that contains a convention and a value like so:
    public class Velocity {
       public VelocityConvention getConvention() {...}
       public double getValue() {...}
       public void set(VelocityConvention conv, double value) {...}
    }When I persist the Velocity class to the database, I want a field called convention that holds the appropriate value of the enumeration. That much is done how I explained before.
    I want to have a selectOneMenu for setting the convention. Via trial and error, I found that MyFaces wasn't able to automatically convert from a string back to a proper VelocityConvention enum constant. It can, of course, convert from the enum to a string because it just calls toString(). But I need both directions for any UIInput element I use, be it a selectOne, or just a straight inputText.

  • JD12 JSF designer does not redraw

    I am having many issues in JD12 JSF designer.
    One is that when I for example select a navigation button's spacer and change it's Width property, the space between buttons does not change until file is closed and re-opened. Is that expected behaviour? Dropping an operation onto the navigation button is very tricky as well. Even when selected is 'Panel group layout', sometimes a rebinding window comes up. The space where a button has to be dropped is so narrow and volatile, that dropping a button becomes a torture that I have to repeat 2-3 times before it actually drops exactly one button (and does not rebind or drop 3 copies of it).
    Another is that when I am changing table column Sortable and Filterable properties, they take 2 times to change the selected values from default to true or vice versa. The green dot does appear in front of property name, but drop down reverts to default (or previous value whatever it was). Suppose I changed Sortable from default to true - it did not change. Then I am changing Filterable in the sam manner and it does not redraw, but Sortable now does. Then I have to change sortable to the same new value again and Filterable now changes. Very annoying. Is there a fix?
    Selecting the controls is bugged as well.  Suppose I selected a table column and changed its Row header property to true, then went on to change another one. When I click another column, it does not select, but a baloon pops up which contains a binding for that column. To close it I have to click elsewhere and re-click the column again. Why is that happening?
    Suppose I dropped a panel border layout onto a facet. Undoing that does not visually remove the border layout from a form. Only closing a file and re-opening will re-draw. Similarly, I am adding a navigation button from Operations, but the buttons do not re-draw to show that a new button was added. Same as previous, only closing/re-opening a file shows a new button. Royal PITA. Is there a fix?
    Suppose I am changing initial size of a table. The number by the right corner changes showing the new size, but after the bottom border is released, the size does not re-draw. Only closing and re-opening a file shows the new size.
    Resizing table columns is painful. When a column is shrinking, the columns to the right of it do not move accordingly - they stay put and the width of the very next column is increasing. Thus it is absolutely impossible to arrange the columns that are beyond visible width of the table. When the column is growing, the columns to the right of it behave erratically - often they suddenly increase their width and disappear beyond the right table border. This is simply infuriating.
    The last is that if the data controls dropped onto the page contain columns from more than one table, then resulting application will throw runtime exceptions (null pointer). But if I deleted all columns but that very object's own columns, and dropped it onto the page, then it will work. After that I can add any columns from that object and it will work fine. The Create Table wizard clearly creates defective code.
    I am running JDEVADF_12.1.2.0.0_GENERIC_130608.2330.6668 under Windows 7 32bit. Are these issues fixed in a more recent build or going to be fixed soon?

    You are not understanding the term 'narrow space' I've used. It does not equal 'width of spacer between the buttons. It equals the area of display monitor where an orange drop indicator appears that supports dropping a new button in between the existing ones. I.e. where JD12 is allowing me to drop a new operation without rebinding the existing buttons.
    The JDK version is the one that JD12 itself installed - 1.7.0_15. As that's the JDK that was shipped with JD12, I contend it has to be sufficient.
    There is no Mcaffee on this machine. They are using Symantec AV. There is about 300-500 MB free RAM when these issues are occurring and CPU load is about 0%.
    Another issue I just noticed is that javadocs are not loading. Doc Path for JDK 1.7.0_15 that came with JD12 is set to http://docs.oracle.com/javase7docs/api/ and there is no doc under the folder where JD installed its JDK. I don't know how to fish docs for an older JDK out of Oracle web site.
    As you contend that it is my system that is a root cause, I looked up the system requirements for JD12 and found that my system exceeds them.

  • JSF design view - visual components are shrinking

    Hello,
    I have some strange issue while using Design view for JSF and data binding.
    Once I drop any data control elements into visual component (panel, etc) my visual components are shrinking to such size, that I cannot distinguish any elements within design view. I cannot use design view since then and have to place all elements base on structure panel.
    How to reproduce:
    1. Create new JSF page with wizard and accept defaults.
    2. Drop one of the panels (panel box, panel group layout) into JSF layout
    At this stage my visual elements occupy 100% of design view screen and represent anticipated outcome
    3. Drag and drop one of the data control elements (data control panel) into created panels on JSF and create table or form
    Immediately after it visual panel where data control was dropped shrinks to approximately 1/4 of the screen and I cannot see neither available space nor created table for my data components.
    I figured out, that if I remove created by wizard default <af:messages> tag from the top of my JSF, then design view representation fixes. Not sure if I should remove <af:messages> from all my pages.
    Above all looks to me as and bug.
    Environment:
    -Jdeveloper 11g
    -Windows Vista 64b
    -Not bundled JDK 6

    Hi Shay,
    Thank you for response.
    1. I tried to play with screen size without result
    2. I checked your video post, but this does not resolve my issue
    3. This issue occures with all JSF pages and can be reproduced even when following official Oracle step by step tutorials.
    4. I figured out, that removing <af:messages> tag resolves the issue ?! It seems this tag is added by default during drag and drop binding.
    5. On this link http://drop.io/jdev_001 you can see how design view is changes with and without <af:messages> tag
    6. Below is code example from one of the tutorials, that leads to shrinking as well:
    7. Once app is deployed and running page get normal view in IE as expected, so it seems to me, it is issue with Jdev design view, probably influenced by my environment, if nobody reported it before.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Want to integrate JavaFX with JSF

    Hi all,
    I am developing a web application in JSF. I want to integrate it with JavaFX. Is it possible to do so? If possible then how can I achieve it?
    Thanks in advance,
    JSF GEEKS

    Actually I found the same code for integrating JavaFX with JSF, which you have linked, but I show it afterwards. Anyways, thanks for your kind support.
    The other interesting thing I found is, interaction between JavaFX and JSF.
    You can interact between JavaFX and JSF like the following way.
    You just give the id in the script in which you have defined the parameters of applet to run in browser with JSF or any language like this;
    <ui:script id="js" type="text/javascript">
        javafx(
                  archive: "Your_JAR_File.jar",
                  draggable: true,
                  width: 550,
                  height: 370,
                  code: "package_name.Main",
                  name: "Name_of_Application/package_name",
    id: "myJavaFX"
        </ui:script>Then uin the header part of your page (acually in <head>), you write another script something like below;
    <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
    function changeColor() {
    myJavaFX.script.line1=myJavaFX.Packages.javafx.scene.paint.Color.WHITE;
    myJavaFX.script.line2=myJavaFX.Packages.javafx.scene.paint.Color.LIGHTBLUE;
    </script>Here line1+ & line2 are the variables of JavaFX script/program. So here, by this example I am changing the value of variables of JavaFX script to change the colors. myJavaFX {color:#333333} {color}is the id of the applet which I have given in the first script to generate and run the applet in browser.
    so here I give you what I understood. Hope it helps.
    Thanks,

  • Migration Jdev 11.1.1.1 to Jdev 1.1.2, IDE visual problems with ADF design

    Migration Jdev 11.1.1.1 to Jdev 1.1.2, IDE visual problems with ADF design
    CONTEXT
    I’ve been working my project with Jdev11.1.1.1, when I migrate to JDev 11.1.1.2. I realized that my project didn’t compile successfully as before besides I couldn’t see the design view in a WYSIWYG mode on my JSF pages.
    I had installed (initially) in C:\oracle\Middleware Jdev 11.1.1.1 with WLS 10.3 (default in Installer)
    A couple days ago I realized about the new Jdev release JDev 11.1.1.2 and I decided to migrate because of the IDE improvements such as Bugs Solutions, Maven support, code templates, etc).
    The new version seemed to be non-compatible with WLS 10.3 because I couldn’t mount it in the same middleware so I installed the new one in C:\oracle\Middleware11g2, JDev 11.1.1.2 with WLS 10.3.1 (default in Installer).
    EXAMPLE
    I have created a new sample Project named JDev112App, it only has 1 java class, 1 ADF template and 1 JSPx to show the errors and differences between releases of the IDE… However, I also have added the screenshots of the Project in each IDE, also I have included a screenshot of my real project (Business App).
    NOTE. Business APP project is under subversion SVN and the migration was done successfully when JDEv 11.1.1.2 opened it (it migrated automatically).
    What should I do?? .. thanks
    Best Regards,

    Example APP
    http://comunidadoraclehispana.ning.com/forum/attachment/download?id=2315969%3AUploadedFi38%3A15784

    I think that the problem could be preferences/settings migration from Jdev 11.1.1.1.0 to JDev 11.1.1.2.0, because I migrated not only the application but also the JDev preferences ( "Documents&Settings...Jdeveloper..." ).
    I have installed in a new machine without previous version of Jdev the new release JDev 11.1.1.2.0 and when I deploy my test application with errors ( showed in this post ), it works fine and also the design view is correct.
    I am not SURE but I think the bug or problem could be also the preference/settings migration between JdeveloperS.
    Can anybody tell me the real reason?? How can I fix it ... I don’t want to import each of my settings manually in JDev 11.1.1.2.0 ( I mean templates, javadocs settings, connections, repositories, etc).
    Thanks in advance for your help,

  • Problems with JSF and included subviews

    Hi everybody,
    I' ve got a problem with JSF and included subviews which makes me going
    crazy. I've got no clue why my web-pages are represent wrongly. The only
    tip I've got is that it must be connected with the kind I do include my JSF-pages.
    When I use <%@file="sub.jsp"%> my pages are are represent right. When I use <jsp:include page="Sub.jsp" /> or <c:import url="Sub.jsp" /> ( mark: the usage of flush="true" or flush="false" doesn't matter )
    my pages are represent wrongly.
    The usage of tags like f:facet or f:verbatim were also included but didn't point to an solution.
    I searched the whole Sun Developer Forum and some other web-sites for any solution for my problem but the given hints and clues didn't help. Now I'm trying to post my problem directly in Sun's Forum in hope to get help.

    Hello Zhong Li,
    many thanks for your post, but it didn't work.
    My problem is that the JSF-Components im my included or imported
    JSP-Pages does not accept any kind of style or styleClass for
    designing. The components take over the informations for colors
    but not for alignment.
    When I take a look at the generated JAVA-Source in $TOMCAT/WORK/WEBAPP for my sub.jsp ( sub.java )
    it seems that the resulting HTML-page would be presented correctly.
    But later when I start the application via Firefox or Mozilla the html-sourcecode is totally wrong.
    In my example I create a simple grid with 2 rows and 2 columns.
    Both columns contains JSF-Outtext-Components and are included with div-tags.
    The generated Sub.java shows that the text would be setted in the div-tags. Unfortunately the html-sourcecode represented by my browser shows that jsf-text is not setted in the tags but in the <h:form> tags. The div-tags are neither rounded by <h:form> nor containing the JSF-OutText-Components.
    Any clue?
    Many thanks Benjamin

  • Latest version of Tiles appears not compatible with JSF 2

    I have been doing java server faces for about a month now. In general, i very much like what I see. However, I found significant problems with Tiles. I have now spend about 8 hours trying to debug it. The book by David Geary and Cay Horstman have a whole section on tiles. However, the latest download of Tiles has changed significantly since the authors wrote the section. I have debugged and debugged to now I get the following in NetBeans:
    SEVERE: Exception sending context initialized event to listener instance of class com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener
    java.lang.VerifyError: (class: com/sun/webui/jsf/renderkit/html/AccordionTabDesignTimeRenderer, method: encodeBegin signature: (Ljavax/faces/context/FacesContext;Ljavax/faces/component/UIComponent;)V) Incompatible argument to function

    at com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener.configure(ConfigureListener.java:1028)
    at com.sun.faces.config.ConfigureListener.configure(ConfigureListener.java:1100)
    My only conclusion is that the latest version of tiles is not compatible with JSF 2.
    Is anyone able to get the latest version of Tiles to work with JSF 2?

    JSF + Tiles is not going anywhere. Most of the JSF components render at runtime whereas Tiles only works at compile-time. Tiles was designed to work with JSP not JSF, even though some people tried to use it for a while until they realize the big limitation.
    Go and try JSF + Facelets. It'll solve many of your problems.

    Please help me out with working sample codes that connects MS SQL server 2005 DB with JSF!!
    Thank you guys!

    1) don't use the bridge driver
    2) don't do database access from JSF
    3) learn how to use your application server
    4) learn how to use your IDE

    Please help me in configuring JSF 1.2.

    If you are new to JSF, then I'd try and simplify the environment in which you are working as the first step to achieving a successful outcome.
    JSF 1.2 is a certified and well tested component of WLS, so we know it works. I'm not sure of the effect of all those additional modules you are adding in there -- it appears as if you have gotten a Faces implementation instantiated, but there could be some form of version difference/conflict since it can't find a method its looking for.
    Using Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse (http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/oepe/oepe_11115.html) you can build yourself out a pretty simple JSF application to get started from and deploy it to a WLS server. This would remove all the additional libraries you currently have, provide you with a bundled applicaton to deploy and give you a pretty good environment from which you can learn and experiment with JSF.

    Hi there,
    We've installed SP Foundation + SP Server 2010 and set up some sites.
    when we tried to open it with SP Designer 2010, it fails and gave us some errors.
    opening SPD through site actions :

    opening sharepoint site through SPD:
    the folder 'http://mysp.domain.com/site/default.aspx' isn't accessible. the folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the filename contains a / or \.
    the thing is ... we have no problem with sharepoint designer 2007.
    any idea?

    Hi p.andrew,
    If you want to open the site use SPD, you should enable the Client Integration for the web application at first.
    Here are the steps:
    1.
    Go to this location : “Central administration” > “Security” > “Specify authentication provider”;
    2.
    Select the Web Application which you want to edit use SPD (SharePoint Designer 2010), and click the “Default” below the ‘Zone’;
    3.
    Select the “Yes” radio button
     in the Client Integration section, and click the ‘Save’ Button;
    4.
    Close and re-Open the IE;
    5.
    Try to Open the site using SPD.

  • "An error occurred accessing your Microsoft SharePoint Foundation site files" connecting site with SharePoint Designer

    I have a SharePoint 2013 environment with 1 AD Server, 1 DB Server and 1 APP Server, with 13 Web Applications running under the SharePoint.
    Recently I rebuilted the application because of some infrasctrucutre problems, and I was able to solve all of them, except one. I can't connect to any of those 13 Web Apps with SharePoint Designer. When I try to connect, it always ask credentials, then it
    seems like loading the site, then the error appears:
    "An error occurred accessing your Microsoft SharePoint Foundation site files. Authors - if you are authoring against
    a Web server, please contact the Webmaster for this server's Web site. WebMasters - please see the server's application event log for more details."
    I've spent hours troubleshooting it, but none of the information I found was valid. I've already tried to clean the cache, but didn't work. I found plenty of related data of this
    error with FrontPage and old versions of SharePoint, but nothing helped. All the Web Apps are SPD-Enabled at Site Collection Administration. I've tried connecting from many different PC's. The 15/LOGS folder doesn't get any data from this error, neither the
    Event Viewer.
    I really don't know what else to do. Please Help!

    I found the answer of my issue was in a .NET Agent installed by NewRelic on the server. I found a connection trouble with Fiddler, then I end up figuring this out:
    This can be the result of Real User Monitoring so the first step in troubleshooting would be to disable it and see how it affects the application. The .Net Agent injects snippets of javascript into the header of pages sent to the users browser to measure the
    page load time on the user's end.
    You can disable RUM by editing newrelic.config and changing this line:
    <browserMonitoring autoInstrument="true"/>
    to this:
    <browserMonitoring autoInstrument="false"/>

    Hi All
    I have one sharepoint list with huge data i.e with 20columns and more than 200 records with the fields .

    Now i want to create one form with the fields A,C,E.
    When the user enter the existing data of list for columns A,C..based on C value the E column value should change and update that particular item in the list.
    Please guide me without visual web part can we acheive this by Sharepoint designer 2013 or what would be the preferable solution.
    Please help me on this as it is very urgent from me..
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to update the list item in the same sharepoint list with particular condition with Sharepoint Designer 2013.
    I recommend to create workflow associated to the list and then start the workflow automatically when an item is changed.
    In the workflow, you can add condition and actions as below:
    If current item: C equal to Test1
         Set E to Test2
    Then the value of the filed E will be changed based on the value of the filed C.
    In addition, if you create the form using InfoPath, you can add rule to the filed C as below:

  • How can I make a navigation dependend on the database content with JSF?

    Hi,
    I want to navigate dynamicly between pages, but pages which addresses that are taken from database. I want to take a list of page's addresses (links) from database, and while application is running, I want to generate on my page that working links. This is functionality demanded by my little CMS (Content Management System), to enable me to add and delete pages and links between them.
    But is it possible by JSF?
    As far as I could find out, JSF provides such possibilities (faces-config.xml) :
    <navigation-rule>
        <from-view-id>/logon.jsp</from-view-id>
             <navigation-case>
                  <from-action>#{LogonForm.logon}</from-action> /*logon - function returning String as an 'outcome'*/
                   <from-outcome>success</from-outcome> /*outcome*/
                    <to-view-id>/storefront.jsp</to-view-id> /*concrete page*/
               </navigation-case>I need something like that:
    <navigation-rule>
        <from-view-id>/logon.jsp</from-view-id>
           <navigation-case>
              <from-action>#{WhichPage.address</from-action> /*different pages' addresses
               <from-outcome></from-outcome> /*outcome not needed*/
               <to-view-id>#{WhichPage.address}</to-view-id>  //different pages' addresses from db
           </navigation-case>or just function which return directly the address of the target page (read from db). But is it possbile with JSF?
    So far only figured out one not good enough way: to add all the pages' addresses to the faces-config.xml file:( But as you can imagine, the more link I would add, the bigger mess in config file I would create.
    Thanks in advance for any suggestion or advice,
    Regards.
    T.K.

    You can implement a NavigationHandler
    public class NavigationManager extends NavigationHandler {
         private NavigationHandler _base;
         public NavigationManager(NavigationHandler base)
              super();
              _base = base;
         public void handleNavigation(FacesContext context, String actionMethod, String actionName) {
              // Put some code here, you can create a NavigationCase and a NavigationRule
              // with RuntimeConfig runtimeConfig = RuntimeConfig.getCurrentInstance(externalContext);
              _base.handleNavigation(context, actionMethod, actionName);
    }

  • Not able to create a web project with jsf or jsp or struts or spring

    Hi,
    I am trying to create a dynamic web project with jsf or jstl or struts or spring or any of web options available for a web project, but I am not able to do it.
    When I choose any of these options, the wizard asks me to "select an existing jstl/jsf/Spring 2.0 library, or click Add to add a new library." and since it doesn't show any existing libraries there, I clicked on add new library. When I click add, it opens a new dialog box where it has two options :
    1. to use spring/jstl/jsf lib from bea web site - when I choose this option, it tries to connect to the bea web site and gives me error that "connect time out". I don't know why it is not able to connect to the internet. I am not able to see the help also. There it gives error "The requested URL could not be retrieved".
    2. to use libraries from an existing spring installation - I provide the path of a directory where spring lib are, but then it gives me error that this is not a valid installation.
    On another machine, I am able to see the help contents, but still not able to get these libraries from the bea site.
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sushma

    Hi Sushma,
    The issue you are facing has been addressed and will be part of the next release. For the current release, please follow the steps listed below.
    Send an email to [email protected] with details on specific facets you are trying to enable on your project.
    You will be provided with a url where you can download the required jars and details on how to manually add the jars to the workspace which will prevent the download on demand scenario.
    Cheers
    Raj
