Palm m130 frozen

I'm a Palm idiot---have an OLD Palm m130, and was trying to switch to a newer Palm Tungsten E2...  Hotsynched old Palm m130... downloaded new software..  plugged in newer Tungsten (which had some other info on it...I'm getting my hubby's "hand-me-down").  The new device info over-wrote on the PC...and none of my info from my m130 is on the PC.  Then... re-connected the m130, did a hotsync... still the old info.  It wouldn't take the new stuff.
NOW... the old m130 is frozen w/ a "HotSync Problem" message on the screen.  It won't respond to any touch... won't turn off, etc...  This device is the only place that has my schedule info, etc...  Am afraid if I do the "reset" on the back, I'll lose all of my info.
HELP!
Post relates to: Palm m130

Thanks!  Figured that one out... the soft reset helped...and I made sure to have the transfer set for the hand-held to the PC.
NOW... I can't find on the palm site how to do a transfer to a newer device?  I want to transfer all of my info (which is now backed up on the PC) to the newer Tungsten E2 device... is there a place on the website that gives directions for this?
Thanks!

  • Palm m130 trying to get to work on Windows 7 64 bit operating system

I purchased a Palm m130 on Ebay.  It did not come with a driver.  The connection is a 9 pin serial.  Web info says it comes with a usb but, this one did not.  It seems to be in perfect working order.
All I want to do is to put one e-book on it.
I know it is supposed to be hot syc'd, but, since I don't have a driver I am sort of at a loss.
Does any one have an idea?
    thanks

I am moving your question to the Windows Hotsync board, where you will find this thread stickied near the top, discussing Windows 7 & 64 bit Hotsync issues.
There are no 64-bit USB drivers.  Only way to sync with 64-bit machines is wirelessly, via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (neither of which your m130 is capable of), or IR.

  • COM1 in use problem. Palm M130 synching with Windows 7

    Hi
Thanks for reading this. Hope you can help me with this problem.
I have a Palm M130 which I have been using on Windows XP for many years.
Have recently upgraded to a new computer with Windows 7 and now I can't sync or remove the Palm software.
Everything I try I keep getting a message that COM1 is in use.
I have a Windows Home Premier 64 bit system. I know this isn't compatable with this palm but have an IR adapter I would like to transfer the information to the computer with if only I can get COM1 open.
Any help and advice gratefully received.
    Thanks in advance

You must install the driver for your palm on your new system.  I had to download it from the palm support page, the install from the cd gave me the same error message.  After I installed the driver there was no further errors and the hotsync worked.

I have the same problem; running XP home, had to reset Palm M130 and now Hot Sync won't work with this error message being thrown. Worked fine 2/01/10. Only PC change was removing McAffee and installing Norton in its place. I have COM1 and COM3 on my PC, have tried changing settings to Local COM1/Modem COM1, Local COM3/Modem COM3, and Local COM1/Modem COM3 with USB checked off, with no results. Unplugged Palm, rebooted, checked terminals, moved to different USB port as well. Downloaded latest version of Palm Desktop and Hot Sync software today... I had this problem once before for over a year, then one day *presto* I hit the Hot Sync out of habit and it performed! FYI, PC runs on cable internet through Comcast.

  • Palm M130 exports

Did not see the board I needed to select. My question is with Palm M130 Desktop. I would like to export data to an office product but cannot find out how. I do see instructions to import from excel etc and would think if you can import you SHOULD be able to export. Have a physician that has a lot of data that needs to be removed as we no longer support these devices. Any assistnace would be great. HP hadgiven the phone number to contact Palm support at 866-791-7256 but this number is not good.
    thanks!

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
This lengthy thread mentions all known means to diagnose and remedy touchscreen (digitizer) issues.  In short:
    remove any screen protectors;
    clean underneath the screen frame using a piece of folded paper;
failing that, Hard Reset and test your device BEFORE you Hotsync again.
If these steps don't result in any improvement, the digitizer is most probably failing.  The only practical thing to do is to find a replacement.  If you *really* love your m130 (I still have one, and still find myself playing Sim City on the game card in it), you can find one on eBay.  Personally I would save that money and spend it on a new something else.

  • Palm M130 Screen not responding

My Palm M130 has been a workhorse for me.  Now I am experiencing some functionality problems.  I have to reset it quite often and most recently had to do a hard reset to get it to function at all.  Luckily I HotSync to my computer regularly and could restore my info from there.  Now the screen seems to have some "blank" spots where it doesn't respond to the stylus.  Any fix for this or should I consider it time to replace my unit?

No amount of question marks (or any punctuation mark for that matter!) will make a PalmOS device run Windows Mobile OS based software.
Never has been able to, and never will.
BTW - you placed your first post in the Practice Area of the Forum.  This is a mere chalkboard to play in, and real questions do not belong there nor do they get answered as the area gets erased on a regular basis.

  • Palm m130

I recently removed the back of my M130 to dtermine if I could replace the battery myself.  When I reconnected the two parts of the case and turned the unit on the characters on the screen were quite dim, to the extent that they were almost unreadable.
What did I do wrong, aside from opening the case, and how might I correct the problem?

Not that I know of.  I just separated the two parts of the case, did not touch anything,  looked at the battery(why I don't really know) and put the case back together.  That's it.
I had really hoped with all the knowledge out there someone might have an answer for me by now.  Guess not.

  • Palm m130 drivers/software?

    Hello,
Recently, a friend of mine sold me his Palm m130 with nothing but the handheld itself and the 'base' or whatever you call it. The thing where I put the handheld on to recharge its battery. It also has a USB wire so I suppose I can somehow use it to connect with it to my computer.
Unfortunately, I don't have any C.D. for it or anything, so I'd like to know; Which software should I get and where can I get them to get my Palm m130 fully working on my computer?
    Thanks in advance,

    Thanks!
I downloaded this 'Palm Desktop' software and put my m130 on its cradle, plugged the USB cable in and all. I then started the software, created a new profile, and began the detection of my handheld. I heard my PC's bleep signaling it can detect a new hardware, but apparently it couldn't find the appriopriate drivers off the internet hence the software didn't detect it.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
    Thank you in advance,

  • I just got a Palm m130 and I can't HotSync it to my computer!

Hello!  I'm new here.  My mom found a Palm m130 at Good Will, and she gave it to me.  This is about the 5th day that I been trying to HotSync it to my computer.  I downloaded the Palm Desktop 4.1.4. and nothing didn't happened.  I'm hoping that someone here will help me.  I know it's a old device, but still, I like using old stuff once in a while.  I push the HotSync button that's on the Cradle/Cable and nothing didn't happened.  ~Advance Thanks to anyone who can help me!~
    Post relates to: Palm m130

I tried the link again, and the page came up right.  I just looked at Palm Desktop 6.2 and HotSync Manager (Windows).  I don't have a fast Internet to download 72 MB.  I don't have Windows Vista.  I don't use Microsoft Outlook 2007.  HotSync is turned on.  I got the HotSync from Palm Desktop 4.1.4.  I reset my device.  I disconnect the Palm and reconnect the Palm.  I cleaned the connector.  I didn't had anything under the Calendar part.  I looked at the cables.  They're in the right spots.  My USB is working fine, because I tried another device, and it works fine.  The error message says:
HotSync Problem.  The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established.  Please check your setup and try again.
I didn't seen anything with Timing out.  Windows XP I clicked on the words "compatible with HotSync" and it went to a blank page.  "Palm Desktop", as I mentioned, I don't have a fast Internet connection to download all of the 72 MB.  And AOL kicks me off on their free will.  I'm reading the "Windows XP HotSync article" page.  "Part One" I went to the Device Manager on my computer, and I don't see the words "Palm USB" or "Handspring USB".  Do I have to download a device thing to be able to find the Palm m130?
"Part Two" I didn't seen a yellow note floating over the System Tray.  I follow the steps, and I got it to work.  So "Part Two" under the "Windows XP HotSync article" helped me!  Yea!  I'm happy!  Thank you sooooo much for the link smkranz!  I'm going to print the page in case I have trouble HotSyncing it again, in the near future.  I heard that I can get applications for it.  Is that right?  If so, what applications can go on the Palm m130?  Again Thank You soooo much for sending the link!

  • Palm Z22 frozen touch screen

Hi -- I can turn on my Palm Z22, I can reset it, i can use the buttons, but the touch screen doesn't work at all.  Does anyone know a fix for this?
    Thanks,

    Post relates to: Palm Z22

To add to this.....I just performed a hard reset and after confirming that I wanted to delete all data, it then asked me to "Tap the center of the target" with the stylus.  The target just keeps alternating between top left corner and bottom right corner in an endless loop and won't leave that screen no matter how many times I tap the target.  Is my Z22 gone for good?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Palm TX frozen while browsing

I have been a faithful user of Palm for more than 15 years and a friend of mine gave me his Palm TX as he got a new iPhone
The unit is almost new. However, my friend tells me it has always had a problem: It connects to a wireless network via Wi-Fi, brings up the home page and everything looks fine. However, after a couple of web pages, it freezes. The only command it accepts is the reset button... and then back to normal. I tried with two different networks and the behavior is the same, ruling out a router configuration issue (I think). Any idea what may be happening?

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Support Community.
I use my TX(es) pretty heavily at home on my wireless network.  Every once in a blue moon (whatever that expression really means...to me it means maybe once a month or so, if that), my TX will freeze like that on some web page.  But it is very infrequent.
The first thing to try is a Hard Reset to wipe the slate clean and start over.  It will delete any third-party apps and all data on the device, so do a Hotsync before you Hard Reset.  This article discusses the various types of Reset for different Palm devices:
    http://tinyurl.com/zlwza
Then, after you Hard Reset, go through the calibration thing, and THEN try going online with it before you Hotsync any data back to it.  If it seems to be working, then there might be either a third-party app or some old system file from one of your previous devices which is causing a problem.
I know that Blazer will just choke on some web sites.  Maybe it's some of those naughty web sites you've been visiting (just kidding there  ). You might want to play with it for awhile by sticking with only some of the mobile-friendly web sites, such as the ones that you'll find on the mobile Palm home page when you open the browser.  Bounce back and forth between some of them to see if the problem occurs.
Another thing you could try is a freeware utility called flush_it (spelled with the _ because this Forum's software would bleep it out otherwise.  The program lets you set it to automatically "flush" the device's cache memory when you open or close an application.  It's helpful because some applications apparently don't close out cleanly, and can cause crashes or "fatal errors".

  • M130 and Palm Pre

I have a Palm m130 hand held and am thinking about purchasing the Palm Pre. Is there a way to hot sync the contact information from the m130 desktop to the Pre?
Also I upgrading my computer and would like to transfer all of the information on the m130 desk top to the new computer (Lenovo) which has 64 bit technology.
I would hate to reenter years of contacts.
    Post relates to: Palm m130

Hello and thank you for using the Palm Help Forums!
We won't have the answer to that question until the Pre is closer to release. The m130 is not going to be able to sync to Vista 64 bit with the cable. You are going to need to look into Infared syncing but even then it's somewhat questionable if the device will sync. I will let you know how you can transfer data as soon as I can.
Let me know if you have any further questions and I will try to address them.

  • List of email clients/address books that will sync with palm desktop 6.2

Is there (and if not, I think there should be) a list somewhere of email clients whose address books will sync with a palm Treo (palm Desktop version 6.2)? I have been happily using various palm handhelds for about 6 years now and have been syncing the address book with Mozilla and now Thunderbird  for the last couple years. I currently have an m130, but it's time to upgrade to a "smart phone" as I'm tiering of carrying around two devices. Unfortunately, the Treo requires palm Desktop version 6.2 which is not compatible with the Thunderbird palm sync. I have had the idea that Outlook (which I've never used or been exposed to) will sync with palm, but something I read gave me the impression that I would need to buy some third party software to make that happen, plus the $110 they want for Outlook. I would like to think there are other choices for someone who just wants to sync their smart phone with their email client's address book. It seems that such syncing ability would be esential to palm's sales and that a listing of all such syncing possibilities would be extremely beneficial to sales, particularly for new sales to people aren't already insiders on this sort of topic. The lack of ability to sync with Thunderbird may just cause me to stick with my old m130 awhile longer and give up on the idea of a nice new smart phone.

Wow, thanks a bunch! You just saved me from a long, involved, and discouraging search for an alternative. I'm using WindowsXP, palm m130, palm desktop 4.1, Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 and Thunderbird's palm sync conduit palmsync-2.0.0.x-wsm .  I'm wanting to purchase a Treo 700 on ebay, but went to the palm site, clicked on the support link, then the Treo 700, then the downloads tab and it directed me to desktop 6.2, which made me believe I would have to use that to sync a treo 700.
I do wish that both palm and Thunderbird would talk more about the palm Thunderbird palm sync. Unless you're a real geek or very determined (I'm the later), you're not likely to find out that such capability exists. I can't believe I'm the only one out there who needs to have my email client address book contacts with me all the time, so there has to be others who are looking for this.
Next stop, ebay - I have a smart phone to buy.
