Palm Treo-1.11VZW possible software problem!! (bug??)

Recently had to replace my Treo 700p,, due to the fact that it kept thinking I had a hands-free earpiece plugged in, but wasn't.  The speaker phone option would disappear when I made a call.  Couldnt speak or hear caller--and they couldn't hear me.
This is the bigger issue.  They replaced my phone from Asurion insurance.  It had version 1.11VZW sw on it.  First I noticed that it could not see my 4Gb micro sd card w/ adapter. My old phone did.  Also when you hold down the "Home button", it did not show my most recent categories above it.  Holding the button down just flashed throught the main categories pages very rapidly.  My old phone software version was Treo_-1.10.
Palm Support website gives a memory card installer for 1.06, 1.10 and _-1.10 versions (Claims _-1.10 doesn't need it, and says NOTHING about -1.11).  I was on net chatting with Palm support at 4:30 am on).  Chatted with 2 techs, with one suggesting that I install the software update 1.10).  To make things short, at present my phone is continually rebooting after calibrating the stylus. (soft and Hard reboots have no effect).  I have Asurion sending me another phone due tomorrow.  I hope that I don't have to go through the same issues again.  I hope that Palm / Verizon checks the two issues with their version 1.11
Any comments / suggestions welcome!!

Thank you for responding!!  Well I have the new replaced device and checked for the 'old' issues and did not see them.
What I do see is that: I want to see my email icon on the blue 'Command Bar' (if that's what it's called).  I went to the 'default apps' option and made sure that it is on 'Mail', but I still do not see it.   This Treo is also Treo-1.11-VZW.  I could try reinstalling my Versamail, but versamail is working fine, and i don't want to chance it  I aslo don't want to go through the hassle of contacting Asurion for the 3rd time!!

  • Palm Treo problem

I am using unlocked Palm Treo 680.  Last week I dropped it into water. I took all parts out & dried them.  After doing that the Palm worked fine.  Recently it has problem.  The problem is if I don't use the Palm for about 30 seconds it automatically go to HotSync software even I was at difference screen.  I tried to do the hart reset but I could not.  I hold the red button while taking off the battery and putting it back.  I still held the red button until the screen of Palm symbol with start up bar disappear.  When I saw the screen with Palm symbol in orange only I released the red button but then nothing happened even I waited for 15 minutes.  Please let me know what should I do next to solve this problem.

Hi.. Welcome to the Palm forums.  Unfortunately what you are experiencing is water damage which is not covered under warranty which covers the first year from original date of purchase.  For a 680 the repair cost is $199 so it may be time to trade in the device.  If it will sync I would do so as soon as possible as you will probably start experiencing other strange issues soon.

  • How It Was Fixed (Possible Software Bug Not Hardware): Getting the iMac Screen/Menus Garbled and/or Yellow Circle Before Getting Into Finder Issues?

Hi. Possible fix done to my late- 2009 iMac's screen/graphics issue that may work God willing, hopefully for most [In my case it sometimes had that yellow circle that appears before it goes to the Finder but mostly it was a messed up desktop and menus (unreadable mostly) after months, prayers and weeks of fixing it; recommended to be read entirely first coz' it's a bit complicated (like a lot of subplots). If uncomfortable to try coz' it involved a GPU stress test, contact your authorized Apple service center for their advice]. I had an iMac (late 2009) screen garbling a few hours ago (was weeks ago when it resurfaced until it got worse that it's at every boot on Mavericks):
†        I booted to Snow Leopard USB external (my back-up OS) drive then run the first    person shooter at redeclipse.net. I set everything to max, including the display, resolution and graphics setting with fullscreen and v-sync on. I then refreshed it which brought it back to normal (I then tested it's stability with GPUTest 0.7 with Furmark for 15 minutes). * if the display options have been set to max before, bring it back to the default then refresh and then max it again Possibly any games that's has the graphic settings (or more advanced) of Red Eclipse could work (other free ones are Xonotic and Open Arena which are based on Quake 1 or 3s engine I believe).
Optional but not recommended (have warrantied if that's still available or have it repaired at authorized service centers):
If that doesn't work, review articles and videos on how to open an Intel iMac and get an iPhone/iPad/another way to get to the 'net ready for research (I opened mine very carefully on the right side with a cutter with blade extended far prying it carefully then I inserted a flat end, sturdy plastic used for mixing epoxy then removed the cutter carefully to let the plastic mixing tool do the prying) to see if the cable connected to the logicboard which is on top of, is connected (mine was detached but I'm not sure if the adjusting and tilting of the screen overtime for 2 & 1/2 years, detached it) then do † above again.
It could to be a software problem, a possible Apple ATI driver bug that takes overtime to surface (2 1/2 years it resurfaced because this started in my case after upgrading to Lion when Apple coded things mostly from the ground up. Snow Leopard didn't have this problem).
Thank you for your time. Have a great upcoming sunday mass/great upcoming weekend. I hope this helps.
God bless, Rev. 21:4, Matt. 16:18

Does an external display also act in a similar manner as the internal one?
Some earlier Intel-based iMacs had graphic processor card issues; not sure what
the symptoms of the majority of them were, but some had odd patterns, others
went black, and some would range from OK to totally unusable. Among others.
So there is a chance the graphic processor may be going out; or just the circuitry
that controls the backlight. An inverter may be weak or other circuit to the display
    could be wearing out.
    http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
If you have access to an Apple Store with Genius bar, they can perform some kinds
of diagnostic tests there even though the computer is out-of-warranty; that may be
of help to narrow down the cause of the symptoms you've noticed. They may not be
able to repair it, however, at an Apple Store; as it is rather old by today's standard.
An Apple Authorized Service Provider could do repairs and testing on older models
the Apple Store's Genius and other may not be set up to handle due to vintage.
Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider
    Visit an Apple Retail Store
There is a country locator page to help find either of the above in regions outside
of the US & Canada, not sure how the above links would work; and it appears my
bookmarks to the country locator page may not be accessible now to post here.
You may be able to get an idea about what kinds of parts support the display
function by name by looking into an iFixit.com repair guide for your iMac series.
Hopefully the parts supporting the display are the reason it is dimming down, as
a graphic processor failure likely would exhibit other behaviors than just dimming.
PS: I see you've added content to your thread after I'd started working on this
& the answer likely is a hardware repair; professional testing is worth the time
and you seem to have at least one other thread on the same topic....
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Palm Treo 755p touchscreen black - nothing visible - problem???

I'm not very savy with this palm treo phone which I've had for 6 months.  Worked fine until just recently when the touchscreen would not illuminate at all - it's totally black (as though no contact is being made.) I can, however turn the phone on and off and the keypad illuminates as it normally would when in use.  I can even receive phone calls as well (just not able to see anything on the screen as to who is calling etc. I did not drop the phone nor get it wet. Have no idea why this happened or what to do to get the screen working again.  Called for Treo support and besides not being able to understand the customer service guy at all, I was able to finally understand that he was trying to set me up with a work order and that they would charge me $199 (US dollars) to fix the problem.  NO WAY - my son gave me the phone as a gift (IT WAS NEW) but he bought it on the internet.  Does this mean I'm screwed?  I'm not a happy camper - just want to know if there is some way I can get this thing working again without it costing me an arm and a leg. Any suggestions???

  • Telstra Palm Treo Pro & Whereis Navigator problem

Hi, hoping this might save some time for other Telstra users subscribing to Whereis Navigator to take advantage of the GPS capability of the Palm Treo Pro.
The problem: when trying to open Whereis Navigator there was intermittant account (you subscribe to Telstra for this service) authorisation problems. The error message was along the lines (can't recall verbatim), "can't verify account authorisation, please try again later".The solution: On treo, open internet explorer, go to wap.telstra.comthen to 'my account', then 'Locational preferences', then 'my location settings', then tick 'allow me to be located' and 'allow a GPS location'. After this was done, no more problems.

Further update on above posts from problems during WhereisNavigator critical updates.
    This from garmin/Telstra;
"Please have the customer try the following:  ·
Open Internet Explorer on their device.·
Go to settings and clear the browser cache (not having the device in front of me at the moment, I can’t give more specific directions)·         Re-start Whereis Navigator and click View Details·
Click the download link If this still fails, a secondary solution is to have the customer enter the following URL directly in to their browser:  http://offboardnav.whereis.com  This will take them to the same download site, but will remove the extra step of opening the application.  "
Once I cleared the browser cache, the critical update install from the 'view details' prompt of the update within WhereisNavigator worked fine. Note on this occasion it didn't work (as it has with previous critical update istall problems) to navigate to the URL  http://offboardnav.whereis.com  and install directly.

  • Which sync software downloads do I use for Palm treo pro?

Hi ! I mentioned before on the forums I have a used palm treo pro. I have just realised I do not have the synchronisation software. I looked on the net and found different windows synching softwares 'free' for windows. Am I supposed to look for the software which states it works for the 6.1 windows mobile operating system (on palm treo pro)as I cannot see that sort of thing recommended on the different downloads. The link below seems to be the closest but I cannot imagine a mobile running 6.1 windows using this.  I am fairly clueless as I have never synced before. I am going to hotsync some CoPilot sat nav software . Can someone help me out.  Thanks very much !  http://download.cnet.com/Microsoft-ActiveSync/3000-2094_4-10031823.html
Also just to say this is what I am attempting with CoPilot- http://www.alk.eu.com/buynow/download-instructions.htm . Scrolling down this link to the title under STEP 2 saying Alternative method it shows the type of hotsyncing I need to do. Anyone with any knowledge should understand this and hopefully could advise. I have put the link in this message as I am looking for the correct hotsync software.
    Thanks again!

Alpine23, I've moved your post from the Windows HotSync section to here, due to the fact your device does not use that software - "Hotsync" refers to devices that run PalmOS.
Your device runs Windows Mobile.  What you use to sync it depends on the operating system on your computer.  Older OS's like Windows XP use a program called "Microsoft ActiveSync".  Newer computers running Vista or Win7 use "Windows Mobile Device Center:

  • Problem setting up MobileMe on a new Palm Treo Pro

I have a new Palm Treo Pro, but the performance of my .me account has been quirky at best.
When I set up my .me account on my Palm, all of the mail floods in and populates my mail folders. After that, however, I can't receive any mail. Moreover, I'm not sure if my mail is making it out.
Has anyone had this problem? I would really like to know how to set up my Outlook account on my Treo Pro so this works properly.
    Thanks.

Problem solved. The ipad default is set to IMAP. When I changed it to a POP server, problem solved.

IIRC, Hotmail is like Yahoo's free email - you have to pay for POP access.
If you aren't paying for a premium version of HotMail, it won't work correctly with VersaMail.

  • Help! Problems with Outlook Items Not Showing Up on My Palm Treo Calendar

"Previous" appointments and multi-day events on my Outlook calendar don't show up on my Palm Treo 750 following the ActiveSync.

With respect to the past, you can set the period of time to go back. Recurring appointments may appear much further back than specified by this setting.
If you find the dialog that lists four checkboxes for Contacts, Calendar, E-mail, Tasks, select Calendar and click Settings. Here you set the period of time to sync, from 2 weeks to 6 months to forever. (Note: I have WinMo 6.1, so your dialogs/options might be different.)

  • Palm Treo 800 & Outlook email problem

I recently bought a Palm Treo 800.  This is my first "smart phone" and it's making me feel pretty dumb.  I have spent hours (on the phone with Sprint) trying to get my email set up to work.  I use Outlook on my laptop and would like to be able to sync my phone to it to pull contacts, calendar, etc. and then be able to send and recieve email from my phone.  However, when I sync the phone with my computer I can no longer send or recieve email wirelessly - I can only sync with the USB cable.  So at this point my options are: I can set the email on the phone up to send and recieve email but not using my Outlook information or I can set up the Outlook information on the phone but not be able to send and recieve email.  I am just over looking something or just too dumb for a "smart phone".

I assume your Outlook is set up to work with an Exchange mailbox, and not just download and delete from the server. Typically you can tell from Outlook's Navigation Pane: your Exchange server folders are under Mailbox-Username, while your local storage foldes are named Personal Folders (until you rename them something more useful ).
Company policy permitting, you can wirelessly work with all the important stuff in your Exchange mailbox, including your mail folders, the main Contacts folder, and the main Calendar folder. This does not include contacts you stored in a Personal Folders (PST) file, or in a legacy Personal Address Book (PAB). In order to gain a unified view, you would need to migrate those into your Exchange mailbox.
So that's the first question: is everything you want to access in your Exchange Mailbox?
If so, you can delete your ActiveSync connection to Outlook and set up an Exchange ActiveSync (over-the-air) connection to your Exchange Server. The settings for this are the same as for Outlook Web Access.
    Does that make sense?

  • Open Letter to Palm Regarding the Palm Treo 755p

    Dear Palm,
As a devoted Palm user for the past 15+ years, I have been praising the versatility, convenience and user friendly Palm hardware/software to my colleagues and family for as many years. As a result many have purchased Palm products and have come to rely upon them as much as I do.
Recently I finally gave in and took the leap to consolidate my multiple media devices (laptop: email, phone: calls, Palm TX:notes, passwords, video, books, spreadsheets, contacts, calendar, etc.) into one unit with the Palm Treo 755p. I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO DISAPOINTED IN A PALM PRODUCT! After transferring all of my info from my TX to my 755p, and activating the phone itself, I began the process of setting up my VersaMail account to enable me to sync my work email through the Exchange ActiveSync program. In typical Palm fashion, it was fairly easy to set up once I had obtained the necessary info from my IT department and I was soon getting my email in the Palm of my hand (pun intended). All was well! Or so it seemed...
Shortly after getting everything set up, I contacted my Dr. to set up an appointment later this month, and, in typical fashion, I opened my Palm Desktop Manager to update my calendar with the appointment so I could sync it up with my Palm during the next HotSync. After performing the HotSync, I realized that not only did the appointment NOT transfer from the Palm Desktop, ALL of my personal contacts and calendar events had been forced into my work email account!! I immediately became alarmed because I do not want my personal life (i.e. Dr. appointments, church activities, etc.) advertised to those whom I have granted rights to work on my work email account when requested to do so. I immediately sought out help from the Palm.com help forums and found that MANY people were experiencing the same problem. I performed all of the tricks that I could find (erasing everything, reloading software, hard resets, etc.) but no luck; I could not keep my personal information (contacts & calendar) in Palm Desktop and use my VersaMail for just that - MAIL. After researching further, I found that when using either the Exchange ActiveSync setup or the GetGood program, that the user is forced to surrender all options related to how the calendar and contacts are handled - DESPITE the options built into the program that indicate otherwise. I have since removed all email synchronization accounts from my 755p and have been attempting to re-establish the ability to successfully HotSync my calendar and contact information with the Palm Desktop Manager. I am also working with my IT department to see about the possibility of establishing a POP3 account for my work email - which in my opinion is a completely inferior option; in addition to being most likely unavailable despite the fact that many in the company of 60,000 employees are now facing the same problem with their own Palm Treo devices
    - I now have a phone/PDA that does not do what it was advertised to do.
    - I have lost my confidence and faith in Palm (this did not come lightly; I have been attempting to work through this issue for the past two weeks in all of my spare time).
    - I am still unable to successfully HotSync my contact/calendar info with the Palm Desktop Manager (despite hard reset on the phone & no associated email accounts on the phone) & it does not indicate why (it does not revert to "do nothing" in the manager as it did previously).
    - I have no way to check my work email account remotely.
    - Unfortunately because of schedule limitations I do not have the time to sit on the phone with Palm Tech Support, I have been completely unsuccessful in launching the technical support chat program, and I have been unable to find any type of email address where I could express my concerns in a more professional manner, rather than airing this over a worldwide forum.
Does anyone have any advice, knowledge, fixes, hacks, etc. that can help? I really don't want to lose the investment (time and financial) I made in this upgrade, and I REALLY do NOT want to move over to the dark side (Blackberry).
Most of all, and scoff/call me old fashioned all you want, I do not want to give up on Palm. I still feel that they are a good company that cares about their customers and provides (for the most part) a quality product and I would prefer to give them the brand loyalty I have for the past years, and hopefully many to come.
This is my first time using this venue to communicate with Palm, I have selected to be notified if there is a reply to this message as I prefer not to leave my personal contact information in this open forum. I am looking forward to hearing from you [Palm] to see what can be done to address my concerns.
    Sincerely,
    Chad B.

    Ridius,
Success! Wow, what an endeavor! I had already tried using the HotSync troubleshooting before I turned to the forums so as I expected, I was unable to find a resolution there. Here's what I did next:
    • Before using the Registry Fix utility, I exported all of my "good" files (memos, contacts, calendar, tasks) from my TX. I then wiped everything from the Treo 755p through another hard reset.
    • Downloaded the Registry Fix utility, erased all existing profiles on my computer, re-downloaded the Palm Desktop Manager v6.2.2 and installed it over all existing Palm software on the computer
    • Performed an initial HotSync and then tested each feature (contacts, memos, calendar, tasks) one at a time with a HotSync in between each one. Success!
    • I then went through and instead of loading the profile from my TX, I obtained the most up to date software versions of the most often used additional programs and loaded each one, one by one & performing a successful HotSync each time before moving on to the next.:
    o MegaLauncher v6.44
o Agendus for Palm OS Standard Edition v12.04
    o Documents To Go v8.002
    o CacheMate v4.1.2
o A new-to-me program called Passwords Plus v1.006 since my old "Secret" program was obsolete and I could not find an updated version.
o MiniTones 0.1b (for Palm OS)- just found this a few days ago and it is the greatest for using MP3's on your SD card for ringers, plus its free!
o I was unable to find an updated version of Big Clock and I refrained from loading the previous versions after reading that it has been known to cause crashes on newer Palm OS. (darn! The price was right; free, and it was an excellent program too!)
So far I have been able to perform successful HotSync’s every time with only one consistent error each time (even before the additional programs were loaded):
"Backed up some files successfully to Treo 755p's Backup folder
    •Duration: 7.6 seconds
    •Failed to backup 1 file(s)
    •PmTraceDatabase
•Protocol Error: Handheld file could not be opened. (4004)
    •SYNCERR_FILE_NOT_OPEN"
    Any ideas here?
I have not yet attempted to do anything with my work computer yet, it will take a while to get the IT department to update Palm Desktop Manager to v6.2.2 on the company servers and I feel this was one of many critical updates leading to the fix that ultimately resolved my problem.
All in all, this experience & working with you has renewed much of my faith in Palm – I am only hoping that I can find similar success with the one issue that started all of this (i.e. upgrade to a all-in-one device, time/financial investment, 2+ weeks of troubleshooting & wasted effort, etc.); the need to keep my personal calendar/contact info OUT of my company email/files, while at the same time having the ability to use the Exchange ActiveSync program to view my work email only. Most likely this will require a lot more finger crossing and outcry from the public. For the sake of myself, the many other users of the Palm Treo 755p within my company of 60,000 and those going through the same issue all over the world, I hope that the wait is not too long.
Most of all, I want to thank you for your assistance, kindness, and dedication to providing exceptional service to me and the thousands of others that you have helped directly & indirectly through this and other threads. Whether or not you are able to help me with resolving the last HotSync issue listed above or not, you have been nothing short of amazing and will have my continued vote of confidence in your abilities. I can only hope that those current leaders within the Palm organization will take the time to review this and so many other threads that you have participated in to see what a quality employee you are, so that your talents can be put to use in leading others to follow in your footsteps.
    Sincerely,
    Chad B.

  • Need help Please. Which play nice with macs? Palm Treo's Or Tmobile MDA?

Hi all, I post on here from time to time, but hardly anyone ever answers my questions. Here's my dilema. I bought a Tmobile MDA over the weekend that runs microsoft windows mobile 5.0. And while playing with it have noticed some things about it that i think are'nt that good. For example, I like the fact that its a windows os, but think that it's flawed. I have done quite a bit of research but don't think that it's active sync software is even compatible with mac osx. so have'nt even tried to mess with it. now i'm still in the 14 day window and am thinking about returning it. but here's the thing....
I know that tmobile has EDGE, and it's considerably slower than verizon or sprints EVDO. (since i've researched it i know that edge is around the 70-170KBPS range when EVDO has 300-700KBPS) And tonight i was messing with this tmobile MDA and finally got it to work to connect to the net with it using bluetooth and it's "modem" ability to connect it to the web. But it S U C K S! i went to and did a bandwith test and i was only getting like 12.1-27.1kbps download (after running 2 tests) dude, it feels slower than dialup!
so with that bullet against it, comes the compatible part. I can't sycn this thing with my mac for NOTHING! do any of you out there have a palm treo? (either verizon, sprint, or att.... carrier X?) How does it sync with your mac? is it hard? any extra software i need to get/buy? have any of you used it to connect to the net? and if so, how's the speed? And here's an even bettter question... How long did it take to config it to work using the phone as a modem? Did you use bluetooth? or serial link? was it easy to config? Where did you find the instructions?
I know these are a lot of questions, but this is a large investment for me. I mean this thing ain't cheap and it does'nt really play nice. I don't mind paying a little extra, for some peace of mind, and knowing that it won't crash often and will work with my mac. Anyone out there got any other suggestions? I would really appreciate it. I would like your opinion on which one is the easiest to use that plays nice with a mac, and has a interface that's almost as nice. Thank you so much for your time. I will be following this post closely and comment you all back for your replys
Mac Book Pro 1.83 GHZ 512 Ram   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

It really is a toss up cause Ive owned two Treo's and Ive read extensive reviews on Windows mobile devices and it seems to me like they're pretty similar in the way of hardware and software(minus the fact of using different operating systems). So I think the determining factor really ought to be more focused on how much you're willing to pay, and the level of support you get for each device. I recently got rid of my Treo 650 due to an interesting touchscreen problem and got a windows mobile device(should come tomorrow)
in the way of syncing with a mac:
The Treo is extremely simple to set up and use with a Mac(keep in mind Im not talking about the 700w/wx)in every aspect. Palm provides OSx compatible software(though its almost impossible to get rid of after installation). However, in my experience, Palm does not really do a good job in the customer service department. While they have a rather extensive support page for each device(some of the info is outdated), that's pretty much all you get unless you don't mind spending hrs scouring various forums. Talking to customer service is a joke. Like I said I had a problem with the touchscreen and the best the rep could give me was "try a hard reset" and "send it in for repair".
I have yet to experience what windows mobile will be like. At the very least with syncing, theres syncing software made by people who had OSx in mind(ie: Missing Sync or Pocketmac) who will probably be able to help out a lot more in this area and possible also be able to help out with the other issues you mentioned.
a good place to check out would be howardforums.com, you'll probably get better answers there.

  • Need Help Disabling Phone of Palm Treo 700w!!

    Hi all -
I recently bought a cheap, used palm treo 700w to use as a PDA only; I have specific programs that need to run on a windows mobile 5 PDA, and the treo was much cheaper than an ipaq or other handheld device. However, the phone still has the original owner's phone number saved, as well as their pin number. Even though the phone is no longer hooked up to any wireless carrier services, I'm concerned that one of my children is going to pick up the phone and make an emergency call or somehow interfere with the original owner's current phone since the phone number is still saved. Is there a way to completely disable the phone features of the palm treo 700w and still use the PDA, not just "turn off" the phone by pressing the power button but preventing it from being used as a phone completely? Thank you so much!!
Post relates to: Treo 700w (Verizon)

Thank you!  That certainly seems to be the one I have, and the age isn't important for what I need.  Now, though, that leads to the next issue, which is that I can't sync my contacts and calendar, although I think I've figured out why for myself.  Still, it generates another question.
I am currently using Palm v 4.2.1 on my desktop (Mac 10.4.11)  I bet it's too new, isn't it?  Is it going to be possible for me to back off to Palm 4.0 without losing the information that's currently stored in 4.2.1?  I don't mind installing an older version of the software (and I found the download), but if it means losing my information, I'll just pass this free Treo on to some other unsuspecting person.
