Parallel execution in a web template

We have a web template with several queries. It is possible execute our queries with parallel execution?

currently all DP's are executed sequentially, because in general it would be possible that the dataproviders have influence on each other.
i heard that sap is building a prototyp to allow parallelization in BEX web 7.0. But currently there is no release date known, May this will come with some enhancement package.
You should consider the Functional enhancement schedule on http://service.sap.com/bi. If this feature will be released sometime, it will be listed there.

Web Template dataproviders running sequentially?

Hi, We have a single web template with about 6 dataproviders. We are noticing that the data providers are executing serially and we always thought that they would run in parallel?.. If a dataprovider is assigned to a query on a multiprover the SQL runs in parallel fine.
It just looks like each dataprovider is running sequentially. Can someone verify if they should be running sequentially or in parallel for a single web template? If they should be parallel then what needs to be done to work?

I am also facing same problem. 10 Data Providers are linked to one web template.
I think all the queries are running sequentially. And it is causing performance issue.

Web Template - Executing Queries in Parallel

I'm looking to find out if there is a way to execute queries in Parallel for a web template. I think in 3.5 this was not possible, but I would think that with the new 2004s they would overcome this.
Anyone have any details on this?

From my testing it looks like it works the same way as BW 3.X web run time.
I have not seen any template settings or RSADMIN settings which will make the Data providers in a template run parallel, this will be great feature. Not sure whether this will be enhancement, will see what SAP has to say on this.

basically i am calling 4 Web Tempalte (ZZTEST1,ZZTEST2,ZZTEST3,ZZTES4). what i see in SM50 is always one process and everything is processed sequentially. Question is: do i miss some parameters or what i do wrong? thanks for your help.

WAD, execution of Web Template doesn't work

HI,
I have a problem with Web Template created with Web Application Designer.
If I publish webtemplates to the portal,
it works correctly, I can see my webtemplate on the portal.
if I execute it from Web Application Designer,
I see only a general report with buttons for: New Analysis, Open, Save as, Display as, etc...
but not my webtemplate.
I tried to execute many different webtemplates (custom and standard) but I saw always the same thing!
I don't know why, but the results are the same for:
     ....2fcom.sap.ip.bi!2fiViews!2fcom.sap.ip.bi.bex?TEMPLATE=myWebTemplate
     ....2fcom.sap.ip.bi!2fiViews!2fcom.sap.ip.bi.bex?TEMPLATE=StandardTemplate
and also if the link to the portal is like these:

BEx Web... right click, Open -> Object
I've deleted the value in the property "BEx Web Application Query String", I put in it nothing.
Now, it works!

Long Query Runtime/Web-template Loading time

Hi,
We are having a very critical performance issue, i.e. long query runtime, which is certainly not acceptable by client as well.
<b>Background Information</b>
We are using web application designer (WAD) 2004s release to design front end of our reports built in BI 7.0 system.
<b>Problem Area</b>
Loading of web template on browser
<b>Problem Analysis</b>
Query taking so long time to run, whenever we load it through portal or even directly through web application designer. Current runtime for query is more than a min. And I have noticed that 95% of runtime is taken for loading variable screen. FYI if I run query through Query Designer or BEx Analyzer, it takes 3-5 seconds to execute.
We have taken all the statistics and everything proves that query is not taking any time to execute but its the loading time which creates bottle neck.
<b>Possible Cause</b>
Web template holding 11 data providers, 5 of which are based on queries and rest are on query views. These data providers load into memory in parallel which could cause delay.
These data providers expose detailed variable screens. Out of 21 input fields, exposed by web template, 8 fields are based on hierarchy node variables and 1 on hierarchy variable. And to my knowledge each time hierarchy/hierarchy node variable loads complete hierarchy into memory whenever they are called (in other words, its not performance efficient to use hierarchies).
I request you to please consider this as matter of high priority and provide me with suggestions to remove bottle necks and make the application performance efficient. Please let me know, if you need any further information.

I would recommend you see how long the query execution actually takes without running from the web template. If actually the individual query takes long time then you need to do some performance improvement on back-end side (aggregates, indexing,... and so on).
But the performance issue is only with web templates, then you need to find some notes on it, because, I remember we had to apply some notes in relations of browser taking too long time to load the selection screen in web reports.
After exhausting all the option, then I will implement precalculating the query result before hand using broadcaster.

0ANALYSIS_PATTERN is the standard Web template for the BI Queries when executed through Web.
We can copy this template to a Ztemplate and make the changes necessory based on project need and can be assigned
as default in Configuration settings .

How to write HTML code in Web Template for selection screen

Hello All,
Is it possible to write a html code in the web template html tag so that the output of the html is displayed in the selection screen, i.e before the execution of query.
I know that we can write html, which will be displayed once the query has been executed, but can it be done for selection screen.
if so, how.
My exact requirement is : to display a 2-3 lines of text in the selection criteria screen - sort of, various options available to user for entering values in the selection screen. I was thinking of putting this text using HTML code in the selection screen.

No, unfortunately nobody replied to this thread. So i assumed it is not possible to modify the selection screen thru html code.
Btw, as my requirement was to provide user with multiple answers on the selection screen. I did the validations on customer exit and popped an errror dialog when applicable.

Population of Customer Exit Variables in Web Template Queries

Hello,
Desired Scenario:
I have three Queries: Q1, Q2, Q3, attached to one Web Template in the same order. Queries Q2 and Q3 have exit variables which are populated from the Input Variable of Query Q1 (these customer Exit variables are mandatory, not available for user input and are populated in STEP=2).
Problem:
Sometimes on execution of the template, Q1 is executed first and then the exit variables are populted (which is OK) BUT sometimes Query Q2 or Q3 is executed first and exit variables don't get populated.
As such, I am not sure of the order these three queries are executed. Please suggest how do I ensure that Q1 is always executed first, followed by Q2 or Q3.

The Infoobjects are different in all the three queries. In Q1, the variable is on 0CALWEEK. In Q2, the variable is on XWEEKD (which is reference to 0CALWEEK). IN Q3, it is on XFORWEEK (which is again reference to 0CALWEEK). So, I can't use the same variable in all three queries. But all these variables have to have the Week from to Week To as the input and that input remains same for all three variables.
To prevent the user from entering this week from & to thrice, we populate the other two in customer exit depending on the value input by the user.
So, now I want to know the order in which the queries attached to a Web Template are executed.

Is There A Way To Regenerate Web Templates In The WAD?

I have changed certain web item parameters and saved the changes. When I execute the template the saved changes are not reflected. By that I mean the template reflects the changes but if I delete something like a container, I am receiving a dump with reference to the recently deleted container.
It appears to be that the changes made are not being updated and recognized immediatly from the time of the change to the execution of the template, almost as if a previous version is being called.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Keith : Did you try updating your Web templates using the ABAP RS_TEMPLATE_MAINTAIN*
Use the RS_Template_maintain_70 for BI 7.0 Web templates and the RS_TEMPLATE_maintain for BW 3.5
Also I find it much easier to maintain it here instead of WAD which takes up a lot of memory and dumps ocassionally.

Web templates are front end bw objects used to create Web reports.Every webtemplate has webitems like tables, charts with their corresponding dataproviders(Queries).
The need for opting web reports is that they do not require the SAP GUI to be installed for their execution.

Master Web Template (restrict # of data providers)

Hi!
Quick question:
After suffering bad performance with a huge web template (about 70 queries), we were told to strip down the template into several small ones. We have now splitt them down into 4 web templates (15-20 each) and linked them into one master template via TAB panes, still it seems that all 70 queries are executed at once, when starting the main template. Any idea how to direct execution to just one (sub) templated at a time with the start of the main template!?

A couple of questions.
How is it possible to not assign a query to data provider(s) in the web template definition, I was under the impression all utilized queries had to be defined as data providers in order to be used in the web template!?
The command you mentioned would "activate" the queries upon an event (user interaction), would it be possible to set the displayed queries back to "inactive" after having left the TAB panel, in order to save memory!?

Enable ABAP Class in 7x Web Template

Hi All,
We are upgrading Web Templates from 3x to 7x and we need inputs for amending Custom ABAP Class in 7x web templates. In existing 3x version there are couple of web templates which concatenate columns based on custom abap class, this option is enabled via Results_Table > Table Interface Class > Custom Class is called. But when it comes to 7x version how do we acheive enabling the custom class.
I have tried Custom Extension from Miscellaneous and enabled the Custom ABAP class but the query fails upon execution

Question regarding the default web template for queries

I am trying to learn the default web template that is using for queries:
0QUERY_TEMPLATE_BROADCASTING70
I see that it's <bi:QUERY value="" /> is empty which is logic since the query will be inserted on runtime. My question is, where in the web template does it say that? I can't see any parameter it expects to get with the query's technical name not at the webtemplate code nor at the URL...

Roy,
I think you are mixing things. The template you are mentioning is used for queries that are executed from the query designer. It's not a web template as any other one you create for your users. So, this web template has some parts in it's code that works with the query execution. When you run a query, the system takes the query definition (made in QD) and executes it with the web template indicated for the query. This determination is made by the program that is used to run queries. You can try using RSRT transaction to debug and check how this it's done. If you want to change the default web template used by query designer to run the queries, you should do it copying any standard template, like the one you mentioned. If you don't do it, you won't get the information correct.
