Parallel execution is extremely slow for one SQL

Hi all,
The DB version is 11.1. Rac 4 nodes.
I have a query that is executed in parallel by default because some tables have parallel attribute.
The query ran too slow to be acceptable.
But if I disabled parallel query, it ended within one hour.
The tables being joined have 18M, 17M and 66M rows or so.
I think parallel query should be helpful here, but it didn't.
Could somebody give some advice on this case?
I don't know whether this has something to do with RAC configuration? Could it be because the parallel processes were distributed across different nodes and the inner processes communicatiion has some problems?
I know 11.2 has one parameter parallel_foce_local to foce parallel processes to run in local instance.
Does 11.1 have the similar parameter or undocumented parameter?
Thank you very much.
Leon

I've noticed parallel query favouring slower parallelised full table scans over quicker single threaded index lookups. My conclusion was that if a FTS is the best way of retrieving the results, then parallel query is good, otherwise make the query single threaded and used index lookups. An exception to this would be if you have a partitioned table and your index lookup can read different partitions in parallel

  • Emerlad-theme-manager Is Extremely Slow For One User

Hello. I'm having a problem with Emerald's theme manager. I have three users on my system. root, guest, and snowyclaw. The theme manager works perfectly fine with root and guest, but it's extremely slow for snowyclaw. Loading the window at first, reloading the window after theme selection, anything else that causes an update are all problems I'm having. Help is very appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Update: Forgot to mention this, but I uninstalled it with pacman -Rns and rebooted. After that, I reinstalled it and it's themes. It hasn't fixed the problem, which suspects that maybe there's an old file causing problems somewhere.

  • Safari has been running extremely slow for last 2-3 weeks, and crashing

I have Mac OS X G5 with operating system 10.4.11.
My Safari 4.1.3 has been running extremely slow for last 2-3 weeks, and crashing very often.
I have checked with my internet provider and they said everything looks ok in their end.
Does anybody know what is going on with safari???

  • MacBook Pro Extremely slow for unknown reason.

Even typing this message is taking an age.
I woke up this morning, picked up my laptop and it's just being a right toad!
It's extremely slow and sluggish and won't even open some apps (Skype seems to be causing MAJOR problems and made the computer freeze big time - which I've never seen before) And mail just throws a hissy fit when checking for mail.
I uninstalled skype and it seems to have made a LITTLE bit of difference.
Even doing a spellcheck takes about a minute, it's silly.
I've done SMC and PRAM reset but it's had no effect at all. I've also repaired disk permissions.
I'm all out of options now. I've reset the computer about 10 times, deleted some temp files, emptied the trash, cleared the HDD - Everything.
The one thing I'm worried about is that it STINKS of a virus.....
I'm tired of seeing the beach ball of death and the power button is nearly worn out.
    Any help is mucho appreciated

First your machine is NOT affected by a virus because none as in zero, nada, zip, nope exist for OS X. What it sounds like to me though is 1 of 2 possibilities, both related to your HD. First is it's too full, Mac's need a minimum of 10-15% of the disk available at all times. For example if your drive is 250GB it always should have at least 25-38GB available. If you aren't sure how much yours has in Finder click it and then type Command + I and it will tell you the size and how much is available.
The next thing I think it might be is that it's failing. I would recommend running Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode immediately and see if it reports any errors.

  • Download speeds extremly slow for CS6 trial version

I am trying to download the trial version of CS6 using the Adobe download assistant. It is extremely slow (Currently saying it will take another 15 hours to download.) It has been stuck at 987 MB for over two hours. I have a very fast fibre optic line and just did a speed test. I am seeing download speed of 75.79 Mbs so it is not my broadband. I am on Mac OS Lion 5.7.  and have plenty of empty disk space. Any ideas of what the problem is?

so it is not my broadband.
Actually it probably is. Due to how ADM work sthere may be issues on such connections due to how they handle upstream communication and may dynamically switch IPs/ channels in their multiplexers.... Try a direct download using the method described here:

  • Mail extremely slow for an imap account after 10.5.2 combo

Mail became very slow for a non-.mac/non-gmail imap account after I installed 10.5.2 combo. The account works fine from other mail client such as Sea Monkey. It was working fine until 10.5.1. Any hint?

Using INBOX as the path prefix is NOT the "correct way"; the correct way is server dependent. This is further complicated by the fact that servers that fully support the IMAP Namespace extension actually have more than one "path prefix".
On my company's server, we have the concept of shared mailboxes and the company relies extensively on them. If a user sets the path prefix to INBOX, he can no longer see the shared mailboxes, since that prefix limits him only to his personal mailbox hierarchy. So he must leave the prefix as blank in order to see the shared mailboxes.
Unfortunately, 10.5.2 has decided that a) it shouldn't honor the setting of "Keep Notes & ToDo's" to "On My Mac" and b) that it knows better than the user what the path prefix should be, and c) it doesn't have a "don't ever ask me again" on that annoying dialog.
I have already filed a bug report on this issue.

  • InDesign is working extremely slow in one certain document – any suggestions how to solve this?

I just updated and tested the performance in both C6, CC and CC2014, and also tried deleting the SavedData file before starting InDesign, but the performance is still very slow (10-30 seconds between every move I make). It seems that the problem is only occurring in one certain document. Any ideas how to find the bug or "clean" the document?

Thanks for your input Bart and Doc – I tried both deactivating the preflight and saving as IDML without results. I think I found the "bug" though: a vectorized pattern which I had copy-pasted directly from Illustrator. After removing the vector everything seems to run smoothly again

  • Search very slow for one Mailbox

I am running GW 7.03 on NetWare 6.5 SP7 server. I have one mailbox that is about 1 GB in size and when I search the text in the message, it takes very long time (sometime longer than 5 minutes and still no result return). This only happen since last week.
I ran the GW mailbox maintenance and reindex the mailbox but the search speed does not improve.
I noticed the line saying "BOX COUNT VIOLATORS- count > 500, what does that mean?
Below is the GWCHECK result, can anyone suggest what could be the cause of the delay.

    Thanks in advance.

I have a test GW8 test running on NW6.5 SP7. I got to the web console port 7181, Configuration tab, QUickfinder indexing page and enter the FID i.e. m9k in the Beginning & user user FID fields and pressed <Submit>.
On the NetWare POA console, I press Ctrl+Shift+Q and I saw the message:
    Connection refused [8925] see GWDCA.log
    QuickFinder indexing thread finished
    QuickFinder index Rebuild
    QuickFinder index update
    Question 1:
Is the process same on GW7 & GW8?
    Question 2:
How can I tell the indexing is complete?
    Question 3:
If I do it via the Web Console, do I need to restart POA?
    Question 4:
Would the steps above be similar to what TID 3105742 will do.
    Thanks again.

  • Safari extremely slow opening one web page, Firefox not.

Safari takes 25 seconds to open (http://www.caarc.ca/news.php) or from the same site, (http://www.caarc.ca/e107plugins/forum/forumviewforum.php?2 ) , while Firefox takes less than a second.
    I have implemented the following from forum discussions;
    - Installed the open DNS Servers
-Reset the top 5 buttons for Safari reset
-tried changing from 64 to 32 bit
    -Rosetta is not installed
    - checked the ~library... etc for plugins, there are none.
It is probably something form this site or similar sites but there must be a fix
    Thanks for any help

Both sites opened nearly instantaneously for me. However I have constant problems with websites like eBay and others. The open DNS server thing doesn't work. It's a Microsoft-like workaround that I think is bogus and is a strawman by certain individuals that inhabit this board to make it seem like Apple does no wrong. Safari has its issues, one of which is this random issue with opening websites.

  • SMB1/2 transfering extremely slow for small files. Sends file 6 times.

Having an issue with transferring small files using SMB1 or SMB2. 100MBs will transfer faster than 100 files totaling 10kb.
Doing a packet capture on the source computer will show a file being sent to the destination 6 times before completing. Each upload will have a different FID but file path and name are the same. A large file does not do this.

    Hi,
Please capture packets between source computer and destination and upload the two packets.
You could use Windows Live SkyDrive (http://www.skydrive.live.com/) to upload the files and then give us the download address.
In the meantime, please refer to the article below to see if it related to SMB performance:

  • [WinXP/LabView7.0]Reading parallel port is too slow...

    Hi,
First I would like to apologize for my English. I'm from Switzerland....
I'm trying to read out a 16Bit A/D in 1us steps. Serial Communication over a PIC is too slow, so I was looking for a faster option. I found out there is possibility to read from the parallel port:
I downloaded and installed the AccessHW drivers. I found 2 Vi's (see attached files) to read and write to the port. But this works only very slow. (100Hz read frequency).
By the way I need some advice how to use 16 bits in minimum as inputs. When I set the bit 5 in Baseregister+2 I can read the Baseregister. I can read the whole byte except bit 3. This bit stays always high (3.4 VDC).
The 5 status bits from Baseregister+1 I can
read with no problems but the read frequency is around 100Hz too...
The 4 control bits from Baseregister+2 I can't access. I followed the instructions in this link: http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/72C6FC6CE4AD4D1386256B1800794596?opendocument#4 to make this 4 bits inputs, but it doesn't work. I set the Baseregister+2 00100100 (all of the 4 bits are high) and then I start to read out the Baseregister+2, but there are no changes, when I connect one of the 4 pins to ground.
Hope there is anyone who can help me..!

If you're trying to acquire a 16-bit sample at 1MS/s, using the parallel port, it will not work. In fact, many full-fledged DAQ cards do not support this high sampling-rate/resolution combination. Look at what NI has available here, in the S and E series DAQ boards--this should give you a feel for what's out there and what a professionally manufactured piece of equipment is capable of:
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=10955〈=US
    http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=1038〈=US
As you noted already, a parellel port is going to be extremely slow for your needs, and likely not only be slow, but also have a pretty fair amount of timing jitter, since the timing of your read calls will be indeterminate. I would definitely recommend you look into som
e other hardware acquisition option besides your parallel port... it won't get you very far unfortunately, because that isn't what it's really designed for.

  • MacBook Pro extremely slow start up, Rainbow wheel of death. HELP!

    Hi there
My Mac has just suddenly started becoming very slow. Upgraded to Mavericks 2 months ago. Had an issue at first install that was resolved with re-installation.
Has become very slow to boot, freezing at the Grey Screen with the Apple and spining cog. (Kernel I think?)
It is also very slow once logged in. Nothing has changed system wise. Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I'm not too Mac savvy, so the help is very much appreciated. So here's what I've done...
Had already tried to delete CleanMyMac. So I got EasyFind, and used it to delete/destroy the rest of the files. Did the same for Roxio, Sierra Wireless and Seagate. PaceAp would have been installed with Pro Tools, which is now gone.
There are several files associated with Sierra, PaceAp and Seagate (.plist & .bom files) that I cannot delete, as I get an error saying that cannot be deleted.
Tried Verifying and Repairing Disk Permissions - All was OK
Ran through the Sleep, then Restart, then Shutdown sequence. Noticed no difference.
    Reset P-Ram.
    Reset SMC
Rebooted again, holding command + R and ran the disk utility.
First Verified the disk. Got errors:
    Invalid Directory item count
Volume bitmap needs minor repair for orphaned blocks
The volume Machintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
So I then ran Repair disk, it ran through and then said:
The volume Machintosh HD was repaired successfully.
    The battery condition is normal
      Charge Information:
      Charge Remaining (mAh):          5420
      Fully Charged:          Yes
      Charging:          No
      Full Charge Capacity (mAh):          5482
      Health Information:
      Cycle Count:          806
      Condition:          Normal
      Battery Installed:          Yes
      Amperage (mA):          0
      Voltage (mV):          12401
I then rebooted, but nothing has changed. At the moment it boots to the grey screen with the Apple logo and cogwheel. Takes about 10 mins to then go through to log in. Often the fan will start running as if the system is under load.
When I click login the rainbow wheel pops up and it freezes for a while. Then it eventually loads the home page. Takes another 10 - 20 mins to load everything, the clock and wifi connections in the top right take ages to load.
It will be extremely slow for another 20 mins or so. Cant open folders or do simple tasks without getting the rainbow wheel. Then after a little while it seems to run OK, but still sluggish.
There are no programs that are launched on startup, and I close all programs before shutting the system down. I have over 100 GB free space on the harddrive. Yet I notice in the data from EtreCheck, it states there is only 66 Gb.
Haven't used Time Machine, as my external harddrive is formatted to FAT32, and I have nowhere to store all its contents to reformat it to Mac Extended Journal.  I have backed up all the files from the system that I need.
So is there anything else I can try? Should I try a full system wipe and reinstallation? If so, how do I go about this?
I'm assuming unlike PC's, it's not just a simple task to replace the harddrive, if it is failing hardware?
I'm in rural Australia, so not readily near a Mac Support Shop. But if it is hardware, I'll just have to figure out some way to get to one.

  • Extremely slow mac mini

i am using a mac mini with 2 GB of ram and 2.3 intel core i5, my os is OS X 10.7.5, recently, my computer has been extremely slow, for every click i did, it takes at least 10 seconds to respond, i could not find out why.

Back up all data immediately as your boot drive may be failing.
This diagnostic procedure will query the log for messages that may indicate a system issue. It changes nothing, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator. I've tested them only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    syslog -k Sender kernel -k Message CReq 'GPU D|I/O|find tok|n Cause: -|timed? ?o' | tail | open -ef
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V).
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear.
A TextEdit window will open with the output of the command. Normally the command will produce no output, and the window will be empty. If the TextEdit window (not the Terminal window) has anything in it, post it — the text, please, not a screenshot. The title of the TextEdit window doesn't matter, and you don't need to post that.
