Parameterized XSLT XML file

I apologize if this topic is out of place, but I can not find any forum more suitable to my question. Please advise.
I use XML and XSLT to render a "tree" in my jsp page. When user clicks a tree leaf, a new page is loaded.
Each user will see a different tree, depending on his role defined in the application. The worst thing I can do is to have a different XML file for each role.
Is is possible that I can have just one XML file defining a generic tree, and depends on user role, certain branches and leaves are displayable. In another words, is it possbile to have a XML file parameterized by an external variable.
The external variable here is the user role, which comes from a session scope bean.
MSXML has similar feature that is quite close, but my app is based on Java, Struts on Unix.

Thanks for the hint. I am newbie, and I am quite at lost to make this work.
Here is my tree xml file tree.xml ( a portion of if)

<?xml version="1.0" ?>

<leaf> <leafText> Add</leafText> <link>../add_user.jsp</link> </leaf>
<leaf> <leafText> Change</leafText> <link>#</link> </leaf>
</branch> <!-- End of User Administration branch -->

Here is the xmlTree.xsl
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<xsl:stylesheet xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform" version="1.0">
<xsl:output method="html"></xsl:output>
<xsl:param name="roleNm" select="'ADMINISTRATOR'"/>

<script type="text/javascript" src="../js/xmlTree.js"></script>
</head>
<xsl:apply-templates/>
</html>
</xsl:template>
<xsl:template match="tree">
<body>
<b><xsl:value-of select="$roleNm"/></b>
<xsl:apply-templates/>
</body>
</xsl:template>
Here is a portion of my jsp page
<frame name="nav_frame" bgcolor="#FFFFCC" src="tree.xm"/>' frameborder="0"
Can youn kindly give me a bit more detail where the setParameter call should be set ? I guess it will be a scriplet in my jsp, but I don't know how to put them together. Thanks

    No need for XSLT, just use the XMLAnonymizerBean module in your receiver communication channel.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/45/d169186a29570ae10000000a114a6b/frameset.htm
    /people/stefan.grube/blog/2007/02/02/remove-namespace-prefix-or-change-xml-encoding-with-the-xmlanonymizerbean
    If your receiver CC cannot process modules (ABAP receiver, for example), in your XSLT just define the target namespace with the desired prefix.

  • How to update XML file using XSLT

    Hi there,
    I have a "small" issue with exporting data to an XML file using XSLT.
    A two steps process is needed to import data from a non-hierarchical XML file into ABAP, change the data, and then update the XML file with new values. The problem is not trivial, since the format of the XML file is a complex one: there are many interdependent elements on the same level, pointing to each other by using id and ref attributes. Based on these values the data can be read and written into an internal table. I use XSLT and XPath for that. So the inbound process is done and seems to work correctly. I have to mention that the file contains much more data than I need. I am working only with a small part of it.
    Now the changed data must be exported back into the XML file, meaning that the content of certain elements must be updated. How can this be done with XSLT? I can pass only the internal table to the transformation, so how do I access the XML file in order to update it? I have tried to use the <B>xsl:document()</B> function to access the content of the file store locally on my PC, but it fails each time by throwing and URI exception. I have tried the absolute path without any addition and the path with the file:/// addition. Same result. Please advise.
    Many thanks,
    Ferenc
    P.S. Please provide me with links only if they are relevant for this very matter. I will not give points for irrelevant postings...

    Now the changed data must be exported back into the XML file, meaning that the content of certain elements must be updated. How can this be done with XSLT?
    XSLT approach:  check these online tutorial
    http://www.xml.com/pub/a/2000/08/02/xslt/index.html
    http://www.xml.com/pub/a/2000/06/07/transforming/index.html
    ABAP approach:
    for example you have the xml (original) in a string called say xml_out .
    data: l_xml  type ref to cl_xml_document ,
            node type ref to if_ixml_node  .
    create object l_xml.
    call method l_xml->parse_string
      exporting
        stream = xml_out.
    node = l_xml->find_node(
        name   = 'IDENTITY'
       ROOT   = ROOT
    l_xml->set_attribute(
        name    = 'Name'
        value   = 'Charles'
        node    = node
    (the above example reads the element IDENTITY and sets attribute name/value to the same)
    like wise you can add new elements starting from IDENTITY using various methods available in class CL_XML_DOCUMENT
    so how do I access the XML file in order to update it?
    you have already read this XML into a ABAP variable right?
    Sorry couldnt understand your whole process, why do you need to read local XML file?

  • Split an XML File and invoke a Web Serivce for each splits using an  XSLT

    Hi,
    We Have a requirement to Split an incoming XML File into chunks based on a child element and hit the target Web Service for each and every split ( i.e no of splits = no of hits on WebService).
    Currently, the incoming XML file is getting splitted and gets appended to the SAME Payload and the WebService is hitted only once with the entire Payload.
    Is it possible to invoke a WebService within a XSLT ?
    Please find below the XSLT code used to split the file in chunks of 3
    <xsl:param name="pItemsNumber" select="3"/>
    <xsl:template match="@*|node()">
    <xsl:choose>
    <xsl:when test="count(Batch/Item) > 4">
    <ItemMaintenance>
    <xsl:for-each-group select="Batch/Item"
    group-adjacent="(position()-1) idiv $pItemsNumber">
    <xsl:result-document href="ItemsMatch\{current-grouping-key()}.xml">
    <ItemMaintenance>
    <xsl:copy-of select="current-group()"/>
    </ItemMaintenance>
    </xsl:result-document>
    </xsl:for-each-group>
    </ItemMaintenance>
    </xsl:when>
    <xsl:otherwise>
    <xsl:copy>
    <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/>
    </xsl:copy>
    </xsl:otherwise>
    </xsl:choose>
    </xsl:template>

    Hello,
    It is possible to invoke a webservice from XSLT. To achieve this you must create a custom XSLT function that does the actual webservice call. You need to write an implementation in Java for this. See my blogpost http://blog.melvinvdkuijl.nl/2010/02/custom-xslt-functions-in-oracle-soa-suite-11g/ for a simple example.

  • Invalid tag generated in result XML file, xslt mapping done using MAPFORCE

    HI
    My requirement is File to File using xslt mapping
    I have done a very simple XSLT mapping, but through MAPFORCE tool
    Here are the steps, I followed:
    1. Supplied source xsd and xml file to MAPFORCE
    2. Supplied target xsd file
    3. mapped it as required
    4. tested by supplying a sample xml file by clicking OUTPUT button, which displays perfect XML structure
    5. Clicked XSLT button and copied and created a new file with extension .xsl file
    6. Zipped the above xsl file
    7. imported into IR imported archives folder
    8. Selected the above xslt mapping in my Interface mapping.
    9. Now tested my Interface Mapping by supplying sample some data for the source structure.
    Now I got the error or warning "XML not well-formed" and got the successfull completion message window for my mapping when I proceed.
    Now when I clicked xml source button for the target structure, It displays the invalid tag and starting with "#default"
    So If I removed this particular tag at the first and last lines, it becomes a valid xml structure and able to see properly in my internet explorer
    Here is the result I am getting:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <#default:MT_Student_Result xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="urn:xsltMappingScenarios C:/DOCUME~1/Satya/Desktop/MT_Student_Result.xsd">
      <Data>
        <Name>Khan Raj</Name>
        <Marks>
          <Total_Marks>166</Total_Marks>
        </Marks>
      </Data>
    </#default:MT_Student_Result>
    When I tested through MAPFORCE it generates absolutely valid XML structure when I clicked OUTPUT button on MAPFORCE, but not when I used the xslt mapping through my interface mapping.
    What is the error I am making or any step missing?
    Please help me!

    For some reason when I use MapForce tool to generate my xslt mapping source, it is generating the following statement in the xsl file.
         <xsl:namespace-alias stylesheet-prefix="n" result-prefix="#default"/>
    So at the root element of XML file, it is replacing the character n with '#default' for some reason, I don;t know the purpose of this.
    As you suggested, I changed the name space, still I experienced same problem.
    It is now resolved after removing the above xsl statement from the xsl file before creating/uploading the relevant zip file into archives folder.
    It works fine now. Thanks for the clue.

  • How to find the existence of a tag in  XML file through  XSLT Mapping?

    Hello Friends,
    Working on an SAP XI interface ,I have come across a situation where I need to map the values only when a particular tag exists in the inbound XML file.I need to use the XSLT mapping for the same.
    Requesting your advice on as to how may I validate the existence of a tag through XSLT mapping?
    Thanks.

    Hello Friends
    After research , I could also find another way to check the existence of a node .We can even use CHOOSE to check the existence.
    <xsl:choose>
          <xsl:when test="(/mynode)">
              your action if the mynode is found
          </xsl:when>

    hello all!
    i resolve the problem using:
    * Perform the XSLT stylesheet
      g_ixml = cl_ixml=>create( ).
      g_stream_factory = g_ixml->CREATE_STREAM_FACTORY( ).
      g_encoding = g_ixml->create_encoding( character_set = 'utf-16' "unicode
        byte_order = 0 ).
      resstream = g_stream_factory->CREATE_OSTREAM_ITABLE( table = gt_xml_itab ).
      call method resstream->set_encoding
        exporting encoding = g_encoding.
    I think it's the right way, i put all my ABAP program updated:

  • XSLT and non-well formed XML file

    All,
    I am getting some "XML" feeds from some old lab equipment, however the XML isn't well formed.  Really it isn't even XML it is just a formatted text file.  So I will get a feed like the following:
    <SampleSet Label="Sample Set">
    <Name Label="Name" Value="CQS6" />
    <AnalysisDate Label="Analysis Date" Value="3/13/2015 12:20 PM" />

    </SampleSet>
    <SampleSet Label="Sample Set">

    </SampleSet>
    <SampleSet Label="Sample Set">

    <SampleSet Label="Sample Set">

    </SampleSet>
    As you can see, this isn't well formed and when I try to process this via XSLT I run into all kinds of problems.  So outside of writting a program to watch for files, picking them up with a c# program, wrapping the XML to make it well formed then pass
    it to the XSLT file, is there a way that I can wrap the file using XSLT instead of having to create a separate program to make it well formed? Any help is appreciated.

    Hello katghoti,
    >>however the XML isn't well formed.  Really it isn't even XML it is just a formatted text file
    Firstly, we should know that a text file actually does not know a XML format, so I suggest that you could save the text file to a XML file. And if you provided XML is the whole content, it is not an invalid XML file because the XML document must have one
    and only one root element. You have to add root element, so a valid XML file with these SampleSet elements should be similar with below:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <SampleSets>
    <SampleSet Label="Sample Set">
    <Name Label="Name" Value="CQS6" />
    <AnalysisDate Label="Analysis Date" Value="3/13/2015 12:20 PM" />
    <CarbonAvg Label="Carbon Avg." Value="116 ppm" />
    </SampleSet>
    <SampleSet Label="Sample Set">
    <Name Label="Name" Value="CQS6" />
    <AnalysisDate Label="Analysis Date" Value="3/13/2015 12:33 PM" />
    <CarbonAvg Label="Carbon Avg." Value="123 ppm" />
    </SampleSet>
    </SampleSets>
    I am not sure how you want the XML be formatted, my usual approach to format a XML file is to open the file in Visual Studio and use ctrl K+D keyboard shortcuts to format the XML file.
    >>is there a way that I can wrap the file using XSLT instead of having to create a separate program to make it well formed?
    XSLT is used to process XML file, while you provided file is a text file, it does not recognize it.
    If I misunderstand, please feel free to let me know.

  • Xslt and getting data from a uri in xml file

    In my xml file, i have a node that conains a uri to another xml file
    Is it possible to use XSLT to open the hyperlink and get the content of that xml file?

    Possibly using the document() function.

  • How to apply XSLT to XML file while importing XML data using XSU plsql API

    I need to load XML file with nested repeating elements into Oracle tables and I am using XSU PLSQL API utility package dbms_xmlSave.insertXML. Can use XMLGen package also!!
    I found out through documentation that I need to have XML file with ROWSET/ROW tags around the elements. As I have no control of XML file coming from external source, so I wish to apply XSLT to XML. I found setXSLT/setStylesheet procedures but it's not working as expected.
    Can you help me with some sample code for the purpose.
    Thanks

    I'm new at XML and XSL as well, but maybe the following code I built can help:

  • Recursively Merging 2 XML files with XSLT

    Hi there, I'm having a problem with merging a couple of XML files. I've found a few examples of merging on-line but none that really help.
    Basically I have an XML file which is written out by my Java program that looks something like this:
    <alldata>
       <data val="xx">
          <data val="yy">
             <data val="ss"></data>
          </data>
       <data val="gg"></data>
    </alldata>The number of children and siblings can change by the way.
    Therefore in the XSLT document I'm displaying the data recursively, i.e.
    <tr><td><xsl:value-of select="@val"/></td></tr>
    <xsl:for-each select="*">
       <xsl:call-template name="itself"></xsl:call-template>
    </xsl:for-each>This all works fine, but I now need to do a side by side comparison with another XML document that has exactly the same structure, but could have different values. I'm not sure how to do this, perhaps using the same recursive code and using a sort of pointer to where you are in the 2nd XML file (see below), but I've no idea how to go about this?
    <tr><td><xsl:value-of select="@val"/></td>
           <td><xsl:value-of select="<2nd documents @val>"/></td>
    </tr>
    <xsl:for-each select="*">
       <xsl:call-template name="itself"></xsl:call-template>
    </xsl:for-each>Output:
    xx    xy
    yy    yy
    ss   ss
    gg   hhDoes anybody have any suggestions or help on how to achieve this?
    Cheers
    Dan

    I posted the same question on the xsl-list message list and got a working solution - here it is in case anyone else has the same problem:
    <xsl:variable name="a" select="document('doc1.xml')//data"/>
    <xsl:variable name="b" select="document('doc2.xml')//data"/>
    <xsl:template match="/">
         <table>
           <xsl:for-each select="$a">
             <xsl:variable name="p" select="position()"/>
             <tr>
               <td><xsl:value-of select="@val"/></td>
               <td><xsl:value-of select="$b[$p]/@val"/></td>
             </tr>
           </xsl:for-each>
         </table>
    </xsl:template>Cheers
