Parameters are corrupted in Servlet  Post method  Why

Arguement from Client is
"This is my Test"
But in the servlet the output is
STRING BUFFERφ ♣t ♫This is a Test
Applet Code is
URL url =new URL("http://localhost:8080/portal/servlet/com.kbs.framework.client.gui.ReportServlet");
HttpURLConnection servletConnection = (HttpURLConnection)url.openConnection();
servletConnection.setDoInput(true);
servletConnection.setDoOutput(true);
servletConnection.setUseCaches(false);
servletConnection.setDefaultUseCaches(false);
servletConnection.setRequestMethod("POST");
servletConnection.setRequestProperty("Content-type","application/octet-stream");
servletConnection.addRequestProperty("COMMAND" ,"test");
servletConnection.setRequestProperty("COMMAND" ,"tes");
ObjectOutputStream outStream =
new ObjectOutputStream(servletConnection.getOutputStream());
System.out.println("CLIENT COMMAND" + command.trim());
outStream.writeObject("This is a Test");
outStream.flush();
outStream.close();
Servlet Post method
try
System.out.println("**********************************************");
System.out.println("COMMAND IS" + request.getParameter("COMMAND"));
InputStream requestInputStream = request.getInputStream();
System.out.println("REQUEST INPUT STREAM" + requestInputStream);
InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(requestInputStream);
System.out.println("REQUEST INPUT STREAM ReaDER" + isr);
BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr);
System.out.println("BUFFERED READER" + br);
String line = "";
StringBuffer sb= new StringBuffer();
while ((line = br.readLine()) != null)
     sb.append(line);
     br.close();
System.out.println("STRING BUFFER" + sb.toString()); // display the input Stream

My guess is that you wrote the String "THIS IS A TEST" as a serializable object but tried to read it as character text.
ObjectOutputStream outStream =
new ObjectOutputStream(servletConnection.getOutputStream());
outStream.writeObject("This is a Test");Serializing an Object stores extra data so that the Object can re-instantiated and it is this extra data that you are seeing.

  • CharConversionException during Servlet Post method - Need fix.

    XML request message using HTTP POST is received by the Servlet interface.
    While we are reading and trying to parse the InputStreamObject, we are getting the following error message.
    doPost java.io.CharConversionException: Characters larger than 4 bytes are not supported: byte 0x8e implies a length of more than 4 bytes
    It looks like we are receiving some invalid Non-ASCII characters in the XML message.
    The above error is thrown intermittently.
    Whenever we have this CharConversionException, the servlet gets corrupted and it impacts few good xml messages that follows after the error.
    I need to know the following:
    1. How to fix this exception and skip the bad message?
    2. Is it possible to log the entire xml message in the catch block, whenever we have this exception?
    NOTE: we tried different ways, not able to print the xml message, as the inputstream seems to be closed/null, when it reaches the catch block.
    Tried the below code , but the servlet process/thread hungs and throws the below error:
    Thread "WebContainer : 3" (00000028) has been active for 667781 milliseconds and may be hung.  There is/are 1 thread(s) in total in the server that may be hung.
    Below is the code snippet:
    public void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
                   throws ServletException, IOException {
              response.setContentType("text/xml");
              request.setCharacterEncoding("ISO-8859-1");

                        iter = upload.getItemIterator(request);
                        while (iter.hasNext()) {

                   out.append(new String(b, 0, n));
              if (logger.isInfoEnabled()) {
                   logger.info(out.toString());
    Need any help to fix the issue we are facing? Issue of either fixing/overcoming the actual exception and printing out the entire xml message(bad one) in ours log
    during the catch block.
    Thanks a lot.

    Which line is the exception coming from?
    It seems that your content type is UTF-8, even though you're sending LATIN-1 data.
    Also, your "inputStreamTemp" is a redundant variable.

  • Servlets + Post method

    Please help. I've created a servlet that sends the client a different response depending on the item that they clicked. The item sends a parameter to the servlet, and the servlet then sends the response depending on the item.
    Here's the code. What am I doing wrong? It doesn't seem to recognize the parameters sent.
    the client side has a link of to the following items:
    Item 1
    Item 2
    The servlets main code is as follows:
    public void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException
    response.setContentType(CONTENT_TYPE);
    PrintWriter out = response.getWriter();
    HttpSession session = request.getSession(true);
    out.println("<html>");
    String value = request.getParameter("reqtype");
    if (value == "1")
    out.println("<img src='1.gif' align='center'>");
    if (value == "2")
    out.println("<img src='2.gif' align='center'>");
    out.println(request.getParameter("value"));
    out.println("</body></html>");
    Please help!!!

    There is no parameter named "value" in you request!
    Your link must be something like :
    servert?reqtype=1&value=you_value
    regardsHi,
    The parameter value was a typo(on my post for help), i ment to type:
    out.println(request.getParameter("reqtype")).
    So basically my html page has a link to:
    Item A
    My servlet then has a
    String value = request.getParameter("reqtype");
    if (value == "1")
    { out.println("Item 1"); }
    The out.println(request.getParameter("reqtype")); part near the end of the code simply writes the outs the parameter i've requested, which it does. It outputs 1 in the html page.
    But it doesn't meet the if condition i've set out.
    Do I have to conver the String value = request.getParameter("reqtype") into a different data type? do I need to decode it, cause I'm thinking theres a trailing space or something there that I can't see.
    Please help me. I've been working flat out on this thing for over a day!
    Thanks

  • Open URL, use POST method in new window

    From a Java program, how do we open a https connection, basically a secured site, in a new window and pass some parameters to the link, using POST method?

    Hi
    Is JavaProgram a Applet or Servlet?
    Opening a new window directly from server,probably not possible? From your question
    what I understand is, A html page is displayed
    and when u click on a link opens a new window.
    The parameters to the link should be posted using POST method, again
    it is not possible this can be done only by appending
    "?name1=value1&name2=value2..."to the link

  • Crystal Report "some parameters are missing values" while exporting/printin

    I am able to pass parameters from a JSP to a crystal report through CrystalReportViewer and view the report. (I tried doing it using the code provided on this help forum. I was getting a message: "Some Parameters are missing values". I had to add 1 line: pfield1.setReportName(""); for every parameter field. And It worked..)
    Now I can see the "Print" and "Export" buttons. But when I try to print or export the report, I get the same message "Some Parameters are missing values".

  • URGENT-Dynamic News Application. Dynamic Servlet Change method to POST

    When I first logon to the Dynamic Servlet I get a form with USERNAME and PASSWORD and Categories and Subcategories to select with a "Create Profile" button. After enetering details I get the next html page which is the news detail page generated out of DynamicIE.xsl.
    The Form generated in DynamicServlet uses a defaullt method of GET to submit. I want to change it to POST and did it in the code but it does not work. After I changege the method to POST and I click the "Create Profile" button the next HTML with news detial is not displyed, it just displays the same HTML. I checked the syntax of POST looks fine. I followed the code, when the form is submitted RequestHandler.java reads the params and populates the Category,Subcategory and Types vectors and then the function servlethandler.sendDynamicHTML is called which in turn calls the applyXSLtoXML function. In this whole process I do not see why the next form is not generated when the method is POST and why it is displayed when the method is GET.
    I changed the methods to POST for the AdminServlet by making the changes in the Admin.xsl and it works fine.
    It is really confusing me as the logic of the code should not have any effect with the form submission method. Any quick help will be appreciated.

    We are passing the REQUEST_TYPE as part of the URL. If we use the POST method, those values are not able to catch from the java appalication. The servlet is written in such a way that based on different conditions we are displaying different pages. Since it is checking the value of REQUEST_TYPE there and not matching with the values, it ia again giving the same old page.

  • Passing Parameters via Post Method from Webdynpro Java to a web application

    Hello Experts,
    I want to pass few parameters from a web dynpro application to an external web application.
    In order to achieve this, I am referring to the below thread:
    HTTP Post
    As mentioned in the thread, I am trying to create an additional Suspend Plug parameter (besides 'Url' of type String) with name 'postParams' and of type Map.
    But when I build my DC, I am getting the same error which most of the people in the thread have mentioned:
    Controller XXXCompInterfaceView [Suspend]: Outbound plug (of type 'Suspend') 'Suspend' may have at most two parameters: 'Url' of type 'string' and 'postParams' of type 'Map'.
    I am using SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio Version: 7.01.00
    Kindly suggest if this is the NWDS version issue or is it something else that I am missing out.
    Also, if it is the NWDS version issue please let me know the NWDS version that I can use to avoid this error.
    Any other suggestion/alternative approach to pass the parameters via POST method from webdynpro java to an external web application apart from the one which is mentioned in the above thread is most welcome.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anurag

    Hi,
    This is purely a java approach, even you can try this for your requirement.
    There are two types of http calls synchronous call or Asynchronous call. So you have to choose the way to pass parameters in post method based on the http call.
    if it is synchronous means, collect all the values from users/parameters using UI element eg: form and pass all the values via form to the next page is nothing but your web application url.
    If it is Asynchronous  means, write a http client in java and integrate the same with your custom code and you can find an option for sending parameters in post method.
    here you go and find the way to implement Asynchronous  scenario,

  • What are Parameters? How are they differenet from Variables? Why can't we use variables for passing data from one sequnece to another? What is the advantage of using Parameters instead of Variables?

    Hi All,
    I am new to TestStand. Still in the process of learning it.
    What are Parameters? How are they differenet from Variables? Why can't we use variables for passing data from one sequnece to another? What is the advantage of using Parameters instead of Variables?
    Thanks in advance,
    LaVIEWan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
    Using the Parameters is the correct method to pass data into and out of a sub sequence. You assign your data to be passed into or out of a Sequence when you are in the Edit Sequence Call dialog and in the Sequence Parameter list.

  • Call methods (which are in the servlet) in my response page

    Hello !
    I want to call methods which are in the servlet ( its name is ServletRecap) BUT the call is made in the response page which is generated by the servlet ServletRecap !
    I just want to allow the user to update his choice in the response page.

  • HELP!!! Wierd CF 9.02 issue when "to many" form fields are posted in "post" method

    So we just installed cf9.02 64 bit on all brand new windows server 2003 machines and migrated all code over and we have run into the wierdest (and very dead on the water) issue, any form posting to a cf templae with a "large" amount of fields using method = "post"  barfs, works fine with method = "get" or with a smaller amount of fields.  Here are some "basic" examples I pulled out of our app:
    https://dev1.mystudentsprogress.com/testposting/smallform.html --> this is using method = "post" and works fine with a small number of fields, click save and it calls a cf template that simply says "index.cfm here"
    https://dev1.mystudentsprogress.com/testposting/formget.html ---> this is using method = "get" and also works fine, click save  and it calls a cf template that simply says "index.cfm here"
    https://dev1.mystudentsprogress.com/testposting/formpost.html --> this is using method = "post" and it barfs, click save and you get an error 500 page  And once this happens the "next" call for even the succesfull pages returns a blank page i.e. go here:
    https://dev1.mystudentsprogress.com/testposting/smallform.html and click save No go here again and click save:
    https://dev1.mystudentsprogress.com/testposting/smallform.html
    ...there is nothing in any of the CF logs indicating any kind of errors, it just flat barfs on forms with post method and a large amount of fields, clearly a MAJOR issue as our app has lots ot screens with lots of fields!!

    You might investigate the postParametersLimit and postSizeLimit values in your server's neo-runtime.xml file.  I suspect you'll need to increase the values for those two settings.  Remember to back up this file before making any changes. You will need to restart the CF server to apply any changes made to the settings in this file.
    See the CF 9.0.2 release notes for more information: http://helpx.adobe.com/coldfusion/release-note/coldfusion-9-0-update-2.html

  • HTTP POST method does not pass parameters to the server

    Hi ,
    I am using SSO using VSJ product and implemented using a filter.
    I have problems as below
    1. Every request to the web server will be intercepted by this vsj filter and if sso does not succeed it will send 403
    2. my system will detect 403 in web.xml and redirect to login page
    3. user key in username and password and log in
    4. after successful login set the HttpSession and redirect to homepage
    Problem is subsquent form submit / ajax call using "POST" method cannot pass any parameters to the servers ( parameters sent using POST will be null in the servers )  ? GET is okay
    If i comment out the vsj filter altogether , everything works as per normal.
    My Question is
    1. Is there anyway to overcome come ?
    2. Is there any method to clear off whatever this sso vsj has set ( clear cookies / start new browser instance / etc ) in order to forget the state
    Any idea?
    Thanks

    Yes.
    here to illustrate
    public MyFilter extends VSJAuthFilter
    *public void doFilter(){*
    *if(session.getAttribute("loginSucces") != true){*
    super.doFilter(); //call VSJ Auth filter to perform SSO in order to get User Principal populated.
    *}else{*
    chain.doFilter(); // normal filter
    My Filter only intercepts *.jsp and *.do
    Basically here is the pattern that i observe
    1. If i hit default url (homepage.do) for the first time it will trigger the super.doFilter() , it will then throw 403 and redirect to login.html , after success and go to homepage , subsequent POST parameter is missing
    2. if i hit the external login page directly just to simulate ( eg : login.html ) it wont trigger this filter , after success and go to homepage , subsequenet POST parameter is okay
    3. GET is always ok
    I am using weblogic server 10.x btw
    Thanks

  • Why "OCIAQListen" function parameters are commented in ociap.h file

    Why "OCIAQListen" function parameters are commented in ociap.h file
    Oracle help document says that the OCIAQListen function takes the
    following 7 parameters...
    OCISvcCtx *svchp
    OCIError *errhp
    OCIAQAgent **agent_list
    ub4 num_agents
    sb4 wait
    OCIAQAgent **agent
    ub4 flags
    But the params are commented in the header file.

    HttpURLConnection con = (HttpURLConnection)url.openConnection();
    con.setUseCaches(false);

    con.setDoOutput(true);
    con.setRequestMethod("POST");
    System.out.println("do output called");
    con.setDoInput(true);
    System.out.println("do Input called");
    ObjectOutputStream objout = new ObjectOutputStream(con.getOutputStream());
    yet the post method in the servlet does not seem to be called....
    another problem I had was trying to serialize a DOM document and send it to the servlet. I am using the following code to write the DOM document on an output stream..would this work:
    OutputFormat format = new OutputFormat(document);
    XMLSerializer serializer = new XMLSerializer( objout, format );
    System.out.println("XML Serializer Started");
    DOMSerializer newSerializer=serializer.asDOMSerializer();
    newSerializer.serialize( document );
    objout.flush();
    objout.close();
    ...since the doPost method of the servlet is not being called I do not whether the above code would be sent to the servlet..
    Any advice on the above two matters would be highly appreciated..

  • How I can pass parameters by POST method?

    How I can pass parameters by POST method?
    I use URL Template iView. I checked Requested Method - POST, but when I started the iView the program says:"It's a GET method!"
    I use httpServletRequest.getMethod()in the program.
    Environment: EP6 SP2
    Thank's!

    Hi Kremena,
    the OSS stands for "Online Service System" - service.sap.com - messages or directly: service.sap.com/message.

  • Parameters into request-uri using POST instead of GET.

    I wrote some servlets that send parameters each other.
    The request came from an HTML form, and I used JavaScript to submit it.
    Example:
    <script language="JavaScript">
    function doMyPost(idparam)
    document.myform.action=document.myform.action+"?id="+idparam;
    document.myform.submit();
    </script>
    <form name="myform" action="myservlet" method="post">
    ... <!-- NO INPUT ELEMENTS -->
    </form>
    In this case the servlet method "myservlet.doPost()" could not find "id" parameter.
    Writing:
    <form name="myform" action="myservlet" method="post">
    <input type="hidden" name="foo" value=""/>
    </form>
    Now the servlet method doPost() found "id".
    I know that a correct submit with "post" and with an input named "id" would not generate errors (my HTML is very unconventional...), but I wrote "myservlet" to accept only post request, and was easy to build a list of anchors (XSL) which call my script with different values of "id" ...
    Why this behaviour? (is due to servlet, or web server Websphere, or browser IE ?).
    I found nothing about this in the HTTP/1.1 specification, but I can't exclude some protocol intervention...
    Bye,
    Mauro

    As I recall, this is in the specification, but it's in the part describing the functionality of a form post.
    When the method is POST, the receiving page reads the information from the form-content only, which has been MIME-encoded and appended to the submission. Any parameters added to the URL do get passed along but they are ignored by the POST processing.
    You'd be better off adding a hidden field to your form:<script>
    function docPost(idparam){
       //document.myform.action=document.myform.action+"?id="+idparam;
       document.myform.id.value = idparam;
       document.myform.submit();
    </script>
    <input type="hidden" name="id" value="">
