Parsing text from CLOB field that's stored as XML

I have a CLOB field that contains an XML string. That looks like the text below. Is it possible to parse out the text string Denied NOW!!!. I basically want to parse out the data between the first encounter of the <CommentBody> tag.
<CommentHeader>Whatever<CommentDate>2010-01-21-15.16.48.000000
</CommentDate></CommentHeader><CommentBody>Denied NOW!!!</CommentBody>
<CommentHeader>Whatever<CommentDate>2010-01-21-15.10.38.000000
</CommentDate></CommentHeader><CommentBody>Denied YESTERDAY!!!</CommentBody>
Thanks all!!

Thanks everyone! I'm using Oracle 11.1.0.7.0
It seems to work as long as the Text Contents of CommentBody tag is one word without spaces. If there are spaces in between the tags it errors out. Here's the SQL:
SELECT extractvalue( xmltype('<root>'||t.comments||'</root>'),
'root/CommentBody[1]' ) as "CommentBody"
FROM AP_VCHR_AW t
When COMMENTS contains this data it errors out:
<CommentHeader> <CommentDate>2010-03-04-17.52.53.000000
</CommentDate></CommentHeader><CommentBody>This is an approved vuocher</CommentBody>
<CommentHeader> <CommentDate>2010-03-04-17.52.53.000000
</CommentDate></CommentHeader><CommentBody>This is an approved vuocher</CommentBody>
When COMMENTS contains this data the SQL succeeds:
<CommentHeader>at <CommentDate>2010-01-21-15.16.48.000000
</CommentDate></CommentHeader><CommentBody>Denied!!!</CommentBody>
<CommentHeader> at <CommentDate>2010-01-21-15.10.38.000000
</CommentDate></CommentHeader><CommentBody>Denied!!!</CommentBody>

  • Parse XML from CLOB field

    How can I parse XML from CLOB field? I need to replace or delete the node from XML document and update the database with new XML. I am using Oracle 9i release 2.
    Here is the XML. In this XML if section1 and section2 exists then I need to delete the section1 node. If section2 doesn't exist, replace section1 with section2 node.
    <Document ID='2' TypeID='2'>
    <Body>
    <Page Name='Page1'>
    <Sec ID='section1' Title='Section 1' GroupID='' />
    <Sec ID='section2' Title='Section 2' GroupID='' />
    </Page>
    </Body>
    </Document>
    Please help.. Thank you..

    In 9.2, you are limited into your options. Have a look into, among others, updateXML. Updating tp 10gR2 will give you more options to succeed.

  • Using Oracle Text with CLOB field containing multiple languages

    I'm using Oracle 10g (NLS_CHARACTERSET is set to. AL32UTF8) and have a table with a CLOB field which is storing text written in either English and/or Simplified Chinese.
    The following index has been created on this field:
    CREATE INDEX text_index
    ON text_table(text_field)
    INDEXTYPE IS CTXSYS.CONTEXT
    PARAMETERS('FILTER CTXSYS.INSO_FILTER');
    I'm having issues in returning text which matches the Chinese text using the CONTAINS operator. For some reason the following query is returning rows which do not contain any Chinese text:
    SELECT *
    FROM text_table
    WHERE contains(text_field,'炫%') > 1;
    A newsgroup user advised me to produce an explain plan using ctx_query.explain.
    I created 2 explain plans, one which was searching the index for 'A%' and the other searching for the Simplified Chinese character '炫%'. The results for the first test were as expected whereby the values contained within the OBJECT_NAME field all began with the letter 'A'.
    The second test however produced somewhat unexpected results. The OBJECT_NAME field this time contained various words, both English and Simplified Chinese. I could be wrong but it appeared to store every individual word in the CLOB field. Both tests produced different EQUIVALENCE rows, the first test was:
    OPTIONS = Null
    OBJECT_NAME = A%
    Whereas the second test produced:
    OPTIONS = (?)
    OBJECT_NAME = %
    Am I right in thinking the Simplified Chinese character is for some reason being converted to a '?' character?
    Any help on this will be much appreciated.

    As you're not specifying a lexer to use, it will use the BASIC_LEXER, designed for space-separated European-type languages. This won't work effectively with Chinese.
    If you know which documents are Chinese and which are English, you can write this into a LANGUAGE column and use the MULTI_LEXER - this will allow you to specify BASIC_LEXER for the English texts, and CHINESE_LEXER or CHINESE_VGRAM_LEXER for the Chinese texts.
    If you don't know the language, you must use either WORLD_LEXER (10g) or AUTO_LEXER (11g). These lexers will automatically determine the language of the documents and index them appropriately. In general. MULTI_LEXER will be faster and more accurate than either of the automatic alternatives.
    When querying for Chinese characters you need to be very careful with your NLS_LANG settings. You need to make sure that the character set defined in NLS_LANG is the same as the character set from which you've pasted (or typed) the chinese characters.
    The "?" in output usually just means "I don't know how to translate this character into your output character set". Sometimes it may appear as a reversed question mark.

  • Parsing data from indexed field

    Hi,
    A contractor is developing a program to parse data from a form that I created in LiveCycle. There are some tables in the form where text fields in the same column have the same base name and are assigned an index by LiveCycle. For instance, there might be a CompanyName column with 6 text fields in each of 6 rows, where the text fields are named as follows: CompanyName [0], CompanyName [1], CompanyName [2], CompanyName [3], CompanyName [4], CompanyName [5].
    The programmer of the parsing program is having trouble parsing the data for those indexed fields from the XML.  Any pointers you could give me (that I would pass on to the programmer) for how to parse data from fields with indexed names like these?  I know just a little about what he is trying to do.  He said he is using a third-party DLL called iTextSharp for the parsing.  If any pointers come to mind on what he might do, please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Emily

    When design Adobe forms, you can have multiple fields with same name; as you mentioned your fields can be named as
    CompanyName [0], CompanyName [1], CompanyName [2], CompanyName [3], CompanyName [4], CompanyName [5]
    However when the form is submitted the form data (in the form of XML) would look like as follows:
    <xdp:xdp xmlns:xdp="http://ns.adobe.com/xdp/">
        <xfa:datasets xmlns:xfa="http://www.xfa.org/schema/xfa-data/1.0/">
            <xfa:data>
                <form1>
                        <page1>
                                  <yourSubform>
                                           <CompanyName>My Company 1</CompanyName>
                                            <CompanyName>My Company 2</CompanyName>
                                            <CompanyName>My Company 3</CompanyName>
                                            <CompanyName>My Company 4</CompanyName>
                                            <CompanyName>My Company 5</CompanyName>
                                            <CompanyName>My Company 6</CompanyName>
                                  </yourSubform>
                        </page1>
                </form1>
            </xfa:data>
        </xfa:datasets>
    </xdp:xdp>
    Note that all the CompanyName fields are named without any indexing.
    If you explain this format to your programmer, he will be able to understand and write a logic to retrieve all CompanyName field's values.

  • How can I remove ASCII text from a field when I use it in a query

    How can I remove ASCII text from a field when I use it in a query?
    I am running a select statement on a table that appears to have ASCII text in some of the fields. If I use these fields in the where statement like the code below nothing returns:
    SELECT FIELD1 FROM TABLE1 WHERE FIELD1 IS NULL
    But the field looks empty if I do a straight select without the where clause. Additionally, one of the fields has text but appears to be padded out with ASCII text, which I need to strip out before I can use this field in a where or join statement. I have tried using a trim, ltrim, rtrim, to_char, nvl, decode and nothing works. When I use excel to run the same query it looks as if these ASCII fields are boxes.
    I have asked our DBA team to see what they can do to prevent these from going into the table, but in the mean time I still need to run this report.
    Do you have any suggestions?

    Can you provide an example? I've been trying (for
    example) "select translate(' test one', ascii(' '),
    'X') from dual" with no luck.
    Thank you.To replace space, you should query like this:
    select translate(' test one', chr(32), 'X') from dual instead of select translate(' test one', ascii(' '), 'X') from dual Thanks,

    You will be able to do copy & paste when 3.0 comes out this summer.
    Or even better while the iPhone is connected to my PC can I view the address book on the iPhone and make changes using my PC keyboard?
    No. You would make changes to the address book on your PC and then sync via iTunes.

    It is locked to your sisters carrier.
    She would have to ask her carrier if they unlock iPhones and if she qualifies for this service.

  • Copy text from multiple fields to one field

    I would like to copy text from multiple fields into one field. Each of these smaller fields will only be allowed to have one character. The larger field will not be able to be edited.
    So far, I have thought of creating a naming heirarchy for these fields. I was going to then call upon the array of the parent and set the value of the parent to equal this array.
    var parent = this.getField("everything");
    var array = everything.getArray();
    var v;
    for(parent=0; parent<array.length; parent++)
    v = a + " " + v;               //Im guessing this line is incorrect
    parent.value = a;
    Any suggestions? or a better way of doing this.
    Thanks

    The code sample you provided is using AcroForm scripting and will not work in this form. There is another post similar to this one...have a look at this one it might help you out. It is doing the opposite of what you want but the concept of the loop and how each field is addressed inside ofthe loop is what you wil need.

  • Friend received a text from me saying that to read the text he should hit the download button that i did not send

    Just got a text from a friend that claims he received a text from me. This text told him that to "receive my text" he needed to hit a download button that was in the text. i DID NOT send him any text! This is alarming! I immediately changed my Apple ID and password. Should i be worried? Has anyone experienced this and what does it mean?!

    Perhaps your friends phone has been hacked.
    Unless yours has been jailbroken, it has not been hacked.
    It would seem far more likely that your friend has the issue, than you.

  • Can an iPad with iMessage enabled receive a text from an iPhone that has iMessage DISabled?

    Can an iPad with iMessage ENabled receive a text from an iPhone that has iMessage DISabled?

    A "non-iMessage-enabled text) would be an SMS message. iPads do not handle these and they do not go through an Apple server to be "converted". SMS is a function of a cellular carrier, not Apple.

  • How to parse/extract XML from clob field using ODI

    Hi,
    I am very new to ODI. I have an oracle table which has clob field. This clob field contains xml. I would like to parse this xml and convert it to oracle table. Means I would like to make all the tags of xml as oracle table columns.
    I have created a PL/SQL procedure and used XMLTABLE function and I have achieved my goal. The same this I am trying to do with ODI. Since I am new to ODI so any help is appreciated.

  • How can I have text from multiple fields on one layer, copy to one field on another layer?

    A little help please as it's been years since I've done any coding of any sort.
    So I have a 4 page document with various field types.  I have a document script that gets "TodaysDate" that works perfectly and a few other scripts as well.
    So what I'm trying to do is find a work around for the following:
    I have 3 fields - SURNAME, FIRSTNAME & dob.
    And I want what is typed into these fields to populate into 1 field.  And according to this tutorial (http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/how-save-pdf-acrobat-javascript) it's not exactly possible.  At least I think that's what it says.
    However I'm hoping that maybe I could have a Submit button at the end of that document that when clicked would copy the text from those 3 fields (that I would have on 1 layer) into 1 field on a 2nd layer.  Is that even possible??
    I'd also like to have the document Print, Save (using the text in the field on the 2nd layer as the file name), Email (using the text in the field on the 2nd layer as the subject line) and Export to a specific Excel spreadsheet.
    I don't want much do I?
    I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro on a Windows PC but also have access to Acrobat 8 Professional.  And I'm going to want the form to run in Acrobat Reader X.
    So far I have for the 3 fields into 1 on another layer:
    function buttonClick(){
    if(buttonClick==false)
    event.value=this.getField("SURNAME"+"-"+"FIRSTNAME"+"-"+"dob").valueAsString;
    But I have no idea how to call the event.value from 1 layer to another or if any of that code above would even work at all.
    I have a script that I believe will work perfectly for the Save and Email function:
    Using the “doc.submitForm()” function
    // This is the form return e-mail. Its hardcoded
    // so that the form is always returned to the same address
    // Change address on your form
    var cToAddr = "[email protected]";
    // First, get the client CC e-mail address
    var cCCAddr = this.getField("ClientEmail").value;
    // Now get the beneficiary e-mail only if it is filled out
    var cBenAddr = this.getField("BennyEmail").value;
    if(cBenAddr != "") cCCAddr += ";" + cBenAddr;
    // Set the subject and body text for the e-mail message
    var cSubLine = "Form X-1 returned from client"; var cBody = "Thank you for submitting your form.\n" + "Save the mail attachment for your own records";
    //** Send the form data as an XML attachment on an e-mail
    // Build the e-mail URL
    var cEmailURL = "mailto:[email protected]?cc=" + cCCAddr + "&subject=" + cSubLine + "&body=" + cBody;
    this.submitForm({
                cURL: cEmailURL,
                cSubmitAs:"XML",
                cCharSet:"utf-8"
    I'll work out the Export to Excel thing later as I've seen many tutorials on that.  But can I do the 3 fields to 1 thing at all?
    Please Help!!!

    Sorry Gilad.  I hope I'm not getting on your nerves (too much) but as I said it's been a while since I did any formal code. And I'm trying to do this code for a work document but I'm doing it in amongst so many other things I do for my job that it's difficult to get the time to concentrate for longer than 5 mins.
    I didn't get a chance to try that code until just now.  I guess I asked again as I thought (from what I'd read) that it wouldn't be that simple.
    So I've added that code and I get no errors.  But it doesn't appear to be doing anything either.  I've added the code like this in the Custom calculation script of a separate field I've called FileName.  And on the Button i'm using I've added:  buttonClick()
    function buttonClick(){
    if(buttonClick==false)
              event.value=this.getField("SURNAME").valueAsString + "-" + this.getField("FIRSTNAME").valueAsString + "-" + this.getField("dob").valueAsString;
    So now I'm guessing that becasue i'm not getting an error or a result that I've screwed it up still.  Have I put the code in the correct area?  Have I assigned a the buttonClick() function correctly?

  • Import Text From Form Field into Subject Line of Email

    Hello,
    Is there a way to import text from a form field into the subject line of the email when sending back (attaching) the PDF form?  In other words, there is an "applicant name" and I would like that name to be the subject line of the email.
    I am using Adobe Acrobat X (10.1.7)
    If any one has aby guidance or resources online where I can locate this information I would greatly appreciate it!  I have been searching all day but have not found a solution yet.
    Thanks!

    Thank you so much for the help.  For some reason I cannot get it to work though.   Now, when I hit the submit button it does not do anything.
    Previously, I had the following code under
    ACTIONS>Mouse Up>Submit a Form
    mailto:[email protected]?subject=Employee Application
    I removed the above mailto URL and put in your code as a Javascript function. I made sure that my field name matched the name in quotes within the code.
    I used the following:
    var subject = getField("lastname").value
    this.mailDoc({
    bUI: false,
    cTo: "[email protected]",
    cSubject: subject,
    cMsg: "Type message here"
    Do you see anything obvious that I am doing wrong?
    Many thanks!

  • Extracting xmldata from clob field in oracle

    I have an xml document stored in xmltype (clob)field in oracle
    Below is the xml data inside the xml ( I have kind of 300 elements similar to this inside the xml)

    select dbms_lob.instr(clobcolumnname,'E-I13_IS_14') from tablename  where  ( given condition to extract specific transaction)
    the above statement gives me position of the string
    select dbms_lob.substr(clobcolumnname,6( length of element value),870(position from where the value starts)) from tablename where  condition
    the abv statement gives me the element value
    but I want to extract the value for  any element by giving the element name ( if u see any value comes after objtype="e"  between > and < tags)
    can anyone on this forum tell me to extract the element value just by giving element name ( since I have to do the same for n number of elements - how to find position of > and < tags??)

    From the above abbreviated XML document, how do I get the values from the nodes of MeterBar and MeterReading nodes?
    I really appreciate your help in this regard.

  • Is there a way to create a text (key word) field that is searchable to help retrieve photos more quickly

    I would like to create a text field associated and linked to each photo in my iPhoto library so that I can more quickly retrieve photos. I would also like to have a field that describes what was taken for each photo that that information might be printed when printing a photo.

    You can do what you want by printing the photos on a contact sheet.  Add the keywords to the photos anb the description to the Description field in the Info tray at the right.  Select the Contact list as the layout to print, select the no. of columns  and, under settings, select Keywords and Description.
