Parsing the XML on the client
Hi ,
we are on 10g. The db is on unix and client is windows.
we have to accept the xml file name in the oracle form, parse it and store it in the db. All should happen on the client as the user is not very comfortable with the FTP solution. All the examples I have seen, need the xml file to be on the server.
Any idea how to achieve this?

You have a client applicaton which invokes a BPEL process and receives XML response from BPEL. Then you want to parse this response XML in your client application?
Or you are running a BPEL process which invokes a service and receives an XML response. Then you want to parse this XML response in BPEL before your process can proceed?
I have to assume that you are working with a string and then you want to convert the string into XML, and then parse the XML. If this is the case, then take a look at the ora:parseEscapedXML(contentString) function. You can use this in the expression editor in JDev. -

Purpose: 1.This package has an XML file initialized to a variable called DOC .
2.It will then take the values from the XML file and insert them into a PL/SQL table.
3.From the PL/SQL table it will insert values into the STUDENTS table.
4.After step four above, the STUDLOAD procedure will insert (Sequence,Status, .XML file, USER, SYSDATE, ERROR_Message
into the AUDIT_XMLSTUD table regardless if insert status was successfull or not status is indicated by either an Y or
NO and the original XML filed that was currently processed, the date and user who executed the procedure.
If the status was NO then it will insert the Oracle SQLERRM massage, into the REASON_FOR_ERROR column.
If status is Y then REASOK_FOR_ERROR IS NULL.
5,Make sure you embed the xml file with an inner and outer ' ' ie: ' the whole .xml file string ' as the input
parameter into the STUDLOAD procedure.
This package excepts the whole .XML file as a CLOB as an input parameter, so that the end-user will not have

When updating books, it's sometimes better to just to create a new book file and add the files to that.
When renaming files in a book, changes at the system level will break any links/cross-references between files, so it's always best to use the Rename option in the Book file to change FM file names. This will maintain the correct linkages. -

Why the oracle XML parser "parses" the DTD comments?
Hi all,
I always use the header
<?xml version = '1.0' encoding='ISO-8859-1' ?>
to be able to use foreign characters in the XML documents.
The oracle xml parser handles this correctly.
My problem is, when I write comments inside the DTD, the
parser reports "Invalid UTF8 encoding".
Why the parser "parse" the comments? (protected by <!-- and -->)
How do I say that the DTD encoding is different from UTF, like
ISO-8859-1?
Example of a correct DTD and corresponding XML, reporting
problems, related to the 2nd comment in the DTD specification,
written with ISO-8859-1 characters.
The DTD:

Jorge Gustavo RochaI was wrong in saying that the attributes are not added to the element.My main aim is to add a array of elements to the root node.
Is there a efficient manner in adding the elements , rather than adding them individually with the help of appendChild method.

How to parse an XMl without using prefix in the namespace and elements?

Without the prefix in the namespace section I am getting an error but when i just put in the prefix it works fine. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Is that header in the sample XML you provided? Regardless what are you adding? Your data is a clob so you can always tweak it before converting it to a DOMDocument just by doing simple string manipulation.
Since you are in 10g, you should be using dbms_xmldom instead of xmldom. I think xmldom is just a synonym for dbms_xmldom though. Review the dbms_xmldom documentation. You can go straight from a clob to a DOMDocument via DBMS_XMLDOM.NEWDOMDOCUMENT. You can also parse the document completely using dbms_xmldom calls instead of xslprocessor calls.
Other random things to evaluate:
Consider turning
FOR each_FC IN t_tab_FC.first .. t_tab_FC.last LOOP

into a
FORALL i IN t_tab_FC.first .. t_tab_FC.last LOOP

...Better performance because one two context switches (PL/SQL -> SQL -> PL/SQL) instead of 2*n switches.

Ignoring the DOCTYPE element while parsing the xml
I am using JAXB parser to read from and write into my xml file using java code. My xml file contains a DOCTYPE element pointing to a .dtd file which does not exist, due to which I get a FileNotFoundException when JAXB tries to read the xml file. Hence, after unmarshalling the xml file using jaxb, I use a SAXParser to get an XMLReader which removes this DOCTYPE element as given below -

I want to avoid using two different parsers in my class and want to know if JAXB provides any mechanism to delete and then add this element while parsing the xml file.Standard answer for this FAQ: set an EntityResolver on your parser that sends an empty string instead of the DTD. The API docs have an example that you could modify to do that.

Parsing the data from and xml type field
Hi - I have registered a schema and inserted arecord into the table with the xml type column. Now I want to parse the data from the xmltype field into a relational table. I have been using the following select statement to accomplish this - and it does work if there is data in all the selected fields but when the filed is null then the whole select statement fails and brings back 'no rows returned'.If the value is null I want the select statment to return null. please give any ideas.

Please can someone forward me the code to parse the XML retrieved from the oracle database. I want to parse the whole xml, any node any attribute and store the extracted values in database. For example:

Which is the best way to parse nested XML
Hello, I am just getting back into using ColdFusion and I am
working on a project that needs to parse some XML.
The XML is generated by a third party document.
I figured out how to grab individual values and such, but I'm
not sure what is the best way to grab a value in relation to where
it is in the XML.
Following is a rather simplified example of the XML
I need to grab the value of 'Rich Text' in relation to the
'ID name' value.

The part that makes this difficult for me is that there may
be 0 'Group' values or there might be a number of them. As such, I
can't just grab the value by listing the tree out, since it changes
depending on the document (there are thousands of these documents
that I need to parse).
From what I have seen in some XML examples, there are a
number of ways to go about doing this, but before I put a lot of
time into any of them, I was wondering what the 'best' way to do
this is.
XSLT? XMLSearch? Structures? Some combination of those or
other functions?
P.S. what little I know of using ColdFusion with XML all
comes from the doc written by Nate Weiss.
I was a bit let down that after spending well over $1,000 for
ColdFusion, Adobe left out the only two books that were worth
printing (the CFML reference guide and the Advanced book). It
wouldn't have bothered me as much if there was something on the
product page listing the manuals that said 'we only actually give
you 2 of the ones listed'.

How do I get an XML file on the client side hard drive
Is there a way to get XML files from a Flex form and get it
to the hard drive on the client side? I realize Microsoft got
impaled by allowing this sort of thing with ActiveX. We would like
the app to be browser based but need XML files dropped off on the
hard drive. There is an application running locally that needs to
consume them. Can I run flex standalone without web services and

I have never used JAVA before and i am asking if anyone can point me in the right direction for this or give me an example of Client code in JAVA that consumes XML from the Server VB.net.
This is cross platform web service that i am working on which must include the following Client/Server one in say for instance JAVA client and VB.NET server which must consume the same text for instance XML, and then display the XML.
