Partially populating an object from XML data

I have an unpopulated object which I intend to fill on-demand by grabbing several XML files via HTTP.
I'm not sure how best to deal with this in Java - at present I keep a set of booleans to describe what information is present, and update these as I grab new data by parsing the XML
Is there a way I can better use the object oriented features of Java to manage this?
cheers,
Jon

Hi there again,
Do you have zmaterial on your InfoSource? And in your InfoCube?
If so, you only need zcolour in the Infocube and the way you're doing is correct. In the rule of the zcolour you can select master data attribute of and from the list it should appear all the InfoObjects that exist on the InfoSource that has zcolour as an attribute, in this case, zmaterial.
If before you select the list of the InfoObjects available on the master data attribute of you click on F1 you see the help that says exactly that (and I have done it tones of times):
Master data attrib.
The specified characteristic has the characteristic to be updated as an attribute.
With this setting, the value of the characteristic to be updated is read in the master data table of the specified characteristic.
Example
The Characteristic 'Material Group' is not delivered through the InfoSource.
The characteristic 'Material' is delivered through the InfoSource.
The characteristic 'Material' has the characteristic 'Material Group' as an attribute.
You can fill 'Material Group' through the master data table 'Material'. To do this select the method 'Master Data Attribute from' and 'Material' as source.

Diogo.

  • Pre-populate PDF from XML data

I am looking into the feasibility of pre-populating a PDF form using an XML data file. The basic workflow I am investigating is this:
    1. both the PDF form (built in LiveCycle Designer) and XML file would be stored together on a web server.
    2. User would navigate to a web page containing a link to the PDF form, and click to open. The PDF form would open in their browser (using their installed PDF viewer plug in)
    3. the PDF form would be (partially) populated by the data in the XML file automatically
    4. User would fill out the unpopulated portion of the form, and save the resulting PDF to their computer.
Is this workflow feasible? What are the problem areas? I realize that the the PDF would have to be Reader Extended to allow the user to save it.
Many thanks for any and all help and direction.
    Matt LL.

    Hi Matt,
yes, this workflow is perfectly feasible, not really with solely a standard HTTP server though.
There are a variety of options. The issue is that the process of populating the form can usually not be done without any server-side application of logic.
    - You could use LiveCycle Forms to achieve that. That'd also allow you to use other LC components later on easily , such as Reader Extensions, Process Management or DRM for your documents.
    - You could use Adobe ColdFusion for pre-populating the form from XML, it's super easy (much more straightforward than LC imho). The downside is that CF doesn't have an option to Reader Extend the form for you. That being said, you could get Reader Extensions as a stand-alone module and use it's SOA APIs to hook into your CF code (ColdFusion is basically just an abstraction layer on top of Java).
Hope that helps to get an idea.
    Cheers

  • Dynamically create Value Objects from XML file

    Hi
I want to create a value object from Xml file dynamically, like in the xml file i have the name of the variable and the datatype of the variable.is it possible do that,if so how.

Read about apache's Digester tool. This is part of the Jakartha project. This tool helps in creating java objects from the XML files. I am not sure, if that is what u r looking for.

  • How to get an object of choice from XML data using XMLBean?

I have xml schema and I have generated a jar to represent my schema using XMLBean. I also have few xml data files, these are valid xml for generated schema. Now I want to write a utility which takes xml file as input and returns an object of my choice (Assuming this Object type is available in the jar) as output and vice versa. Some thing like this –
    1. Object getObjectFromXML(File xmldatafile, Class classname)
xmldatafile = presents the source of XML data
classname = an object of this class type as output filled from the xml data.
    2. String getXMLStrFromObject(Object)
Pass Object and get XML as String output
    Any pointer?
    Thanks,

Hi! Maybe have a look at the documentation for XmlObject.Factory.parse(). It should allow you what you need to do.

  • Populating a Crystal Report from XML data

    Hi,
I want to populate a Crystal Report using a XML data structure. Below I have explained what Iu2019m trying to do in detail,
u2022 First I will create a Crystal Report using Crystal Report XI R2 designer  by connecting to a Oracle database using a native Oracle connection (not ODBC or JDBC)
u2022 Then I want to write a Java application using CR XI R2 JRC SDK to open this report
u2022 Then to run and populate this report using a XML data structure (which I have separately in a disk location. XSD too is available in disk)
u2022 Then to export this report with data to either PDF or RPT file with saved data in to disk.
    The questions I have are,
    1. Is this possible to do in away?
    2. If so, can you please provide me with a sample code for doing this? I tried some of the other threads in the forum but some had broken links.
    3. Do the xml and the xsd needs to be in a special format?
    4. Is there any other configuration setting I should do?
Hope you can help me. Thank you in advance.
    Regards,
    Chanaka

    Hi Chinmay,
Thank you for the prompt answer. I have gone through this before. It explains on how to create a report using a xml database from CR designer. What I want to do is to set the data source programmatically to a xml date source from the code. I didnu2019t find anything like that. Is it the same way as setting the database connection information?
Also another question I have is how does a report with two tables work? Say I have a master u2013 detail report (order and order lines). The master part is taken from one table (order_tab) and the detail part is taken from another (order_detail_tab). Do I need to have 2 xmls or is one structured xml sufficient? How will the same work if I have the detail section in a sub-report? Will it work with one or do I need to have two?

  • Can I create an XSD from XML data in a CLOB?

    Environment:
    Oracle 11.2.0.3 EE on Solaris.
Very much an XML newbie so please be kind!
I have spent the past few days pouring through the documentation and various blogs, especially this one, but ... I need some help.
I am trying to extract XML data stored in a CLOB and produce a flat file for the user's consumption.
They have sent me what they think is the XSD for the XML data but when I look at the data in the CLOB I don't see the tags documented in the XSD.
I'd like to produce an XSD based on the actual data to compare with what they've sent.
    Is this possible?
I am able to query the XML data using the tags I see in the data using XMLTable and it's working fine.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    -gary

Welcome to the XML side of the world, where you will love it and curse it, just like any other piece of technology.
So as I understand it, the scope of your operation is to extract information from an XML file and then write that information to disk, correct?
    Some questions
    - Why is the XML stored in a CLOB instead of an XMLType column?  Without knowing the system history, it is a valid question.
    - How big are the XML?  The reason I ask this is because when the XML is stored in XMLType columns (of Object Relational structure or SECUREFILE BINARY XML format), then Oracle can parse the XML substantially easier than when it is stored as a CLOB.  If the XML is fairly small, you may see no performance difference between the two.
The Oracle DB itself has no built in ability to generate a schema from an XML file.  In order to do that, you would need to use some third party tool that has that functionality built in.  For example, XML Spy can do this.  Other tools can as well, but that is what came to mind first as it is what I use.  The one thing to remember is that the schema it builds represents that one instance of XML.  Other instances of XML may be different and not validate against the schema you generated, but still have been valid against the unknown original schema.
You can register the schema in the database and then use the XML to create an XMLType instance associated to the schema and then validate the XML that way.  One example can be found at XML DB FAQ and here is another example Re: XML Schema validation
Hope that helps you continue on.

  • Use of PL/SQL to populate table columns from XML data file

I'm trying to find the easiest way to transfer data from a flat file that is in XML format into a traditional Oracle table. Not retaining the XML but actually map an XML element to a column so standard SQL, Forms, Reports, etc can access like it was created using a Form.
Example: Table A has column names Tom, Dick and Harry and the XML file has elements Tom, Dick and Harry and I just want a function that maps and inserts/loads the data into Table As individual columns.
The process needs to be easily initiated by an end user. The user gets the XML data file via an email attachment and needs to do something like a Concurrent Request to pull in the file and load it. Using PL/SQL would be great.
I appreciate any help that can be provided.

    Hi,
    HELP!!!!!
We are having the same problem and we are using oracle 10ir2.
We create an object type (sql type globally not in a package):
CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE G_EX AS OBJECT
    ( EX_ID NUMBER ,
    EX_CON VARCHAR2 ( 100 ) ,
    EX_L VARCHAR2 ( 30 ) ,
    EX_T VARCHAR2 ( 4000 ) );
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE G_EX LIST AS TABLE OF  GEX AS ;
then we insert data through a bulk collect within the package with the table declared of this array of object types:
    v_table G_EX _LIST:= NULL;
    SELECT G_EX (ex_id
    ,ex_con
    ,ex_l
    ,ex_t )
    BULK COLLECT INTO v_table
    FROM exs_lookup;
I am using the syntax (below) but it gives PL/SQL: ORA-00902: invalid datatype
    sometimes not always:
    SELECT G_EX ( ex_id
    ,ex_con
    ,ex_l
    ,ex_t )
    BULK INTO v_data_record
    FROM TABLE (v_table)
    WHERE ex_id = p_key;
    where p_key - is a number type
    and v_data_record is a G_EX object type.
I was wondering if anyone else encountered a similar problem, and knows what we may have done wrong. Since we dont understand why this piece of code is throwing this ora-00902 errors occasionally not always.
Also, if we restart the database up once this errors occurs it appears to stop throwing this ora_00902 error for a lenght of time. Then it comes up with the ora-00902 error again (why?)
    thanks

  • JAXB - Marshalling populated Java object into XML

I have a populated Java object that I'd like to marshall to an xml file.
I don't instantiate this object from a DTD, nor do I need to generate the object via unmarshalling an xml. I'm just trying to build something akin to a toXML() method for this object.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Paul,
Did you ever sort this out?
I too am now having problems with Marshalling to and from XML.
I have been able to write my own Marshalling class but can't seem to be able to DeMarshal a XML stream to a SOAP object.
Please reply to this message if you are able to maybe shed some light on my problem.

  • XSL transform question from XML date datatype to SQL date datatype

Just to give an idea, I am reading some employee information in a CSV format and I have created the fileadapter to read it and parse it into coherent information where each comma separated value corresponds to a column in an employee table. One of the columns is of the date object in the database.
So my my variable is created with a list of employees and then fed into the invoke that calls a dbadapter that does the insert. I am using a transformation to get the values from one variable into the other simply because of namespace conflicts. However the xml date will not match the sql date object as to be expected...but how do I work around it? I have a few ideas but I am not sure they are worth mentioning.
    Any suggestions?

  • Having difficulty creating pdf from XML data source

I have a 'rpt' file built with a classic install of Crystal 10, using xml as a data source. I have tried using both ADO.NET(XML) connection and ODBC CR ODBCXML Driver 4.20.
The rpt file was built on Windows2000 NT platform. The report runs, and displays data from the sample xml file in the preview tab.
I am attempting to feed xml data into the rpt file with the intent to create pdf formatted output. I am using java with the Crystaldecisions packages. I am running this app out of an Apache server on an Ubuntu VM Hardy Heron release. This does not have any version of Crystal Reports installed on it.
I have followed the examples and I am comfortable that I have the correct package imports, I am able to open the rpt file, and convert both the xml and xsd to byte arrays. When I issue the command
    reportClientDocument.getDatabaseController().setDataSource(xmlDataSet, '', '')
    I get the response
Cannot find corresponding table information in the XML file
Set data source failed: The table 'criminal_case' could not be found.
Request failed and JRC Command failed to be undone
JRCAgent1 detected an exception: The table 'criminal_case' could not be found.
    at com.crystaldecisions.reports.reportdefinition.datainterface.g.a(Unknown Source)
The xsd does validate the xml which contains a noNamespaceSchemaLocation pointer to the xsd.
The xml is the same data that was used to design the report on the NT box. This means that I see the same elements being byte streamed as were used to create the rpt file.
Is this as simple as I am running my webserver on Linux? I do see the connection attribute properties reference a Database DLL that is clearly windows based. What can I do?

So why develop a report if there is no data? I can only think that you have a bunch of static text, maybe an instruction page you want to publish? If so, you still need a data source, it can be a dummy source
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <ROOT/>
ie no data per se. BIP needs a source even if there is not data to merge.
    Cheers

  • Load object from xml

Imagine if you can that I have a XmlLoader class for each object that can be loaded from xml.
Before I had the xmlLoader code inside the objects but it's better to separate loading from actual object...
these xmlLoaders needs to be able to set all vars for those objects. How would be the best way to do that?
Atm I have made all vars with a package scope. but this really opens the object open to all other objects in that package...
I don't know any other options. so how do you keep your vars safe, but still be able to load them from whatever source(xml, txt)...?

Apache Digester is good for this sort of thing. It uses setter methods to populate your objects. You could also just use XML Serialization and deserialization. Or, you could go for something like JAXB or XMLBeans, whereby you actually will have classes generated for you from XML Schemas, and instances of those classes can marshall and unmarshall themselves quite easily

  • PDF Report from XML Data

    Hi,
I'm working on one BI report for which XML data has been provided. This report needs to get AP check details (XML Data) and print them on checks
Based on xml data I'm trying to create RTF layout from BI desktop MS word add in
I'm loading xml data using insert field option pulling all required fields into RTF layout.
    Here I faced Few issues,
    1) in xml data I've more than one column with the same name for ex :
    <Name> 23 </Name>
    <Value>35</Value>
again I'm having another column with the same name.Though I'm pulling required column it's showing different value
    2) Another issue is I'm pulling values under particular node it's not displaying right value
3)How to create group or repeating groups based on XML data for ex: checks needed to be printed based on supplier no or check no how to set group by for this ?
    4) Right now my layout displays only one record eventhough more than one record is there in xml data?.
    Thanks,
    Kiran

  • How To Generate Objects From XML and DTD?

Are there tools to generate objects from dtd's and xml files?
If this is not possible for some reason: is there a tool to generate classes from a dtd?
I can not find the "XML Java Class Generator" (from oracle) anymore.

    XMLBeans
There are other solutions, but I know this one is pretty good.

  • How to generate Java objects from XML files with out  scema compilation

    Dear participants,
My name is Raghavendra , i have a requirement of reading XML files Dynamically and parse them and create java types for manipulation . i will not be provided with sxd files (no schema compilation )coz no one knows how many types of structures are there. i want a generic solution. Please Help.

You could also look at something like Apache Digester, which will parse your XML and populate Java objects with the data. A slightly steeper learning curve than the lower-level APIs such as JDOM, but that's outweighed by the lesser development effortdon't think that would work for the original problem, which seemed to indicate that the xml had an unknown structure.
