Partioning cube Measures dynamically

Hi Team,
We need to partition our cube dynamically based on year and period(ex 201306). So when there is a data load/update is happening in the fact only the particular partition is processed and not all.
Dynamic partition I mean, when there is a load happening for a particular Year and Period, then a partition need to created in the cube.
Please suggest. Thanks.

How to Synchronize cube measures with relational fact tables?

Dear all,
I built a simple analysis cube on Oracle 10g R2 using AWM.
The problem is when I change in the column associated with a base measure of my cube and then do cube or measure maintenance using the maintenance wizard of AWM, the measure value does not change and does not reflect the changes i made in the fact table.
Please tell me how to keep the cube measures on sync with the fact table columns

Hi there,
if you delete data in your fact table, i would asume that you have to delete the data in the cube, too. This is not done by "maintain cube".
According to your load strategy you have delelete the old data e.g. for the whole cube or just for a given time data (day/month).
You can use the dml command "clear" or just search in this forum for "clear cube".
Maybe this helps you to "synchronize cube".
If not, the questions would be:
Is new data loaded in the cube correctly?
Is updated data loaded in the cube correctly?
Is data in the cube, which is not present in the fact tables?

Error while dragging cube measures on powerview

Hello!
I'm trying to get started with PowerView in SharePoint 2013 but i'm facing a little problem. I'm trying to connect to a AnalysisServices (Multidimensional) instance, version 11.0.3373.0 on SQL Server 2012 SP1 CU5.
In PowerView i can explore the cube measures and dimensions, but when i try to drag a measure to my view i get the following error

Cube measures friendly names

Hi,
We want to display freindlier names for certain cube measures in the Performance Point dashboard grid.
How is it possible?
And if changing the measure name in the cube is the only option, is there someplace where we can note the more technical exact definision of the measure?

You can create translations for only the ones u need and leave the other blank in which case the original measure names would be displayed .

Cube Measures

Hi Folks,
I am pretty new Oracle OLAP & AWM and currently in the process of designing cubes. In that context would request your advise on the below.
Can we map the measures of the cube to more than one fact tables? i.e. will the below is possible.
Fact A - D1 and D2 as dimensions. M1 as measure
Fact B - D1 and D2 as dimensions. M2 as measure
Cube - D1 and D2 as dimensions. M1 and M2 as measure.
Though the two fact tables has common dimension, I should not join both of them directly as we will miss the rows.

Building cube 1 -> sourced from -> fact 1
cube 2 -> sourced from -> fact 2
then building cube 3 comprising common dims and no aggregation set to them. cube 3 won't have any measure. It'll have only calculated measures which'll point to cube1.measures and cube2.measures. cube3 won't have any mappings.

Get a report of cubes/measures information?

Hi,
I don't know what are the reporting capabilities of OWB. I just finished building all my stars and would like to get a report of the information on all the measures that are defined in my cubes. Is this possible in OWB? Do you know of any other means to get this?
Basically I need to run a check against my specs, to make sure everything was created correctly.

I've tried to open "Repository Browser" from the Design Center but I get an error page:
can't establish a connection to the server at <server>:8999
Where can I check this component's configuration? maybe redirect it to another port? I don't know if what I'm saying makes sense. You see, I'm quite new to OWB.
Validation/Generation won't work for me as to what I want to do is to make sure that all the measures I entered in the cubes match with my customer's specs (number of measures, descriptions, types, implementation details, etc). I want to do this before deploying the objects.
As for the version, I'm using OWB 10g Rel2 (Oracle Warehouse Builder Client 10.2.0.1.31 / Oracle Warehouse Builder Repository 10.2.0.1.0) over an Oracle 10g Rel 2 DB.

SSAS Cube Measures will not display for all associated dimensions in Excel client

Dear All,
Can you please clarify the below query to me?
I have one Calculated Member CM1 and the expression used to calculate is:
([Dimension1].[HierarchyName1].CURRENTMEMBER.Prevmember,[Measures].[Amount]) associated to a Measure Group MG1.
Dimension1 is having two Hierarchies HierarchyName1 and HierarchyName2.
Measure CM1 is used to Calculate another calculated Member CM2 along with other Non Calculated measures and associated to the same Measure Group MG1.
And the Measure Group MG1 is linked to other dimensions, Dimension2 and dimension3 as well.
When I query the cube in Excel Client for the measure CM2, values appears only when the dimension Dimension1.HierarchyName1 is used to view the results.
And values do not appear:
When I do not use any dimensions (Only CM2 used to display in the excel)
When I use Other dimensions linked i.e. Dimension2 and dimension3
And Also does not display any values if the CM2 is used along with other hierarchy of same dimension1 i.e. HierarchyName2
I don understand this concept OR Is this the concept how the tuples work in SSAS MDX?
If a Calculated measure is created using a one of Dimension member, cannot we view that measure value along with other dimensions linked or when we do not use any dimension to view the results in excel?
Can you please help me to understand this.

As you explained CM2 depends on CM1.
The dependency for CM1 is "[Dimension1].[HierarchyName1].CURRENTMEMBER.Prevmember".
So to get value for CM1 you need to bring HierarcyName1.
So for CM2 also HierarcyName1
has to be used only then the data will be visible. When HierarcyName1 is used you can play with
the combinations of other dimension as well .

Can I measure dynamic strain with a SCXI-1531 and how steady is the excitation current?

I am looking at the possibility of using an SCXI-1531 module to take measurements from a single strain gauge. I am only interested in the dynamic content of the signal and so am considering using the constant current excitation method which does not require bridge completion. Is there anyone out there that has tried this or could advise me as to whether this module is suitable?
Having read the spec of the module, it looks promising except for the data on the excitation current which states:
"Accelerometer input excitation current: 4mA +/-10%, 24V compliant."
Now, does that mean that the current will be steady at a value in the range 3.6 - 4.4mA or that it may fluctuate within this range during measurement? The latter would not be acceptable for my application as this would be indistinguishable from a variation in strain.

Hi CAS,
Essentially the excitation provided by the module will not allow you to acquire as you would like.
However, the good news is that you are able to disable the excitation provided by the module, and provide your own external excitation. You should then be able to acquire the signal using the SCXI-1531.
To disable the excitation in LabVIEW using DAQm, place down a DAQmx Create Channel.vi and then configure it for Strain measurements. Then you can create a control/constantto wire to the Bridge Information Terminal by right-clicking on the terminal and selecting control/constant. Within this cluster control/constant will be an enum element where you can specify the voltage excitation source to be external.
I have attached an example VI demonstrating this.

MDX query performance on ASO cube with dynamic members

We have an ASO cube and we are using MDX queries to extract data from that cube. We are doing some performance testing on the MDX data extract.
Recently we made around 15-20 account dimension members dynamic in the ASO cube, and it is taking around 1 and a half hour for the query to run on an empty cube. Earlier the query was running in 1 minute on the empty cube when there were no dynamic members in the cube.
Am not clear why it takes so much time to extract data from MDX on an empty cube when there is nothing to extract. The performance has also degraded while extracting data on the cube with data in it.
Does dynamic members in the outline affect the MDX performance? Is there a way to exclude dynamic members from the MDX extract?
I appreciate any insights on this issue.

I guess it depends on what the formulas of those members in the dynamic hierarchy are doing.
As an extreme example, I can write a member formula to count every unique member combination in the cube and assign it to multiple members, regardless if I have any data in the database or not, that function is going to resolve itself when you query it and it is going to take a lot of time. You are probably somewhere in between there and a simple function that doesn't require any over head. So without seeing the MDX it is hard to say what about it might be causing an issue.
As far as excluding members there are various function in MDX to narrow down the set you are querying
Filter(), Contains(), Except(), Is(), Subset(), UDA(), etc.
Keep in mind you did not make members dynamic, you made a hierarchy dynamic, that is not the same thing and it does impact the way Essbase internally optimizes the database based on Stored vs dynamic hierarchies. So that alone can have an impact as well.

Hide Measure Dynamically by Month or any member

Hi,
I need to hide a Measure for future months and for current month and past one i need to show the particular measure. how can i achieve it..
Means in excel
For old months and current i want to show measure.actual
but for future month i want to show measure.forecasting..in excel that measure should be totally hidden for old months.. but right now it shows blank value.. but does not hide a column in excel.
Please suggest!

This boils down to a philosophical issue that being
"Is a VI created from a template that is part of a class a member of the class?"
Bottom Line = NO. The class has to know about all of its members and the VI created from the template is not known by the class so not a member.
There is also a twisted way that Classes can be messed with that could be exploited so ...
What I do is create a template that is not a part of the class and uses only public methods of that class to do the job.
So...
Take it out of the Class.
Re-write it to use public methods.

I am using BI 7.0, Service Pack 11:
I just partitioned a cube. I hav eorginal cube XFI_C001 and create a new cube C2_XFIC01 by copying from XFI_C001. Now I developed a query on C2_XFIC01. Similar query on XFI_C001 does not give any error. How can I debug this problem? Error reported when running query is shown below. I ran ST22, no dump. I did SM50, looked at developer trace, no clue.

The error log shows you are executing your query on portal which uses Java stack. There may some issue with the portal configuration. Check with your basis/portal team.
The query will execute in BEx and RSRT as RSRT executes query on ABAP stack.

hi,
i am having a problem as follows
i have 3 measure lets say A,B,C and i have exported that to RPD and made
changes in names at presentation layer
now i have made two more drived measure lets say E,F ,if i want this two measure's in my rpd then what steps do i have to follow

You can create translations for only the ones u need and leave the other blank in which case the original measure names would be displayed .

SUM distinct in SSAS Cube measure

Hi All,
I am new to SSAS. I am building a cube. I have many to many relationship.
The fact table is structured as below
FactMain:
DataSetId   TotalCost
Data
101   100.00
102   200.00
FactBridge:
DataSetId    CodeKey   CodePosition
Data:
101     1   1
101     1   2
102     5   1
DimCode:
CodeKey   CodeDescription
1        Code1
2        Code2
5        Code 5
If I am browsing the cube for Code1
I am getting TotalCost doubled. (200.00) Actually I need to get 100 only as it is same DataSetId
How can I get SUM(TotalCost) for distinct DataSetIds?

Hi Rajkm,
According to your description, you want to sum the value for distinct dataset. Right?
In this scenario, since you build the relation between main and bridge table, it will have two records for code1. So when you calculate the total cost on code dimension, it will definitely aggregate the value for each CodeKey. So your requirement
can't be achieved. If you want to keep only one value for each code, you should not have that bridge table in you dsv when building your cube.

Change Bar Chart Measures dynamically

Hi,
I have created one stackedColumn Chart , I am displayig different chart by selecting the different options in the same stackedColumn chart.
The Proble is measure name is not changing automatically when the event is triggered.
This is my code :
measures : [ {
name : oController.oName,
value : '{oCtc}'
In the event handler function i am using the following functions
.destroyMeasure();
.InsertMeasure(new sap.viz.ui5.data.MeasureDefinition({name : oController.oName}));
.InsertMeasure(new sap.viz.ui5.data.MeasureDefinition({name : '{oCtc}'}));
but still its not working properly...
the new name appending to the old name and also the old name only hilighting
can anyone plz tell me the solution for this.

beleive it or not, i got it using trial and error. i keep
trying words in the function setStyle until the color changed. i
dont know why it is not documented.
