Pass password to runas command?

Is there any way to do this? I need to kick off a executable on a Windows 2000 system but I need to do it as Administrator. I was going to use the runas command, but apparently there is no parameter for password. Instead, it prompts for it. Is there any way to fill in a prompt after you run it?
I'm guessing the answer is no since once you start the program with a run process it's off doing it's own thing, but figured I'd ask.
Anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks,
James

I don't know or have su.exe, so I can't say for sure. But generally speaking it is possible to start cmd.exe, then send commands to it, including "set". Like the following:    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
        String c = "cmd.exe";
        System.out.println(c);
        Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(c);
        PrintWriter writer = new PrintWriter(p.getOutputStream());
        BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(
            new InputStreamReader(p.getInputStream()));
        Thread.currentThread().sleep(1000);
        writer.println("set foo=bar");
        writer.println("set");
        writer.flush();
        Thread.currentThread().sleep(1000);
        while (in.ready()) {
            System.out.println("From process: " + in.readLine());
        System.out.println("Process \'" + c + "\' finished");
    }This starts a new instance of command exe, sets the environment variable foo to be "bar" (only in the shell you just started, you don't have to explicitly null it out afterwards), and then lists the environment variables in that shell. However, it's not really bulletproof - I had to toy around with thread.sleep() to get the above to work as intended.
Another (and probably easier) way might be to have your java program write a small bat file with the required commands, execute it, and delete it again.

  • How to Pass password to Run as a Network Account in powershell

    Hello,
    I ve been asked to raise this as a new topic as given in the link. The response also says that it is not possible to pass the password of a network account in powershell. How else can I implement the requirement?
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/41a4ba3d-93fd-485b-be22-c877afff1bd8/how-to-run-a-powershell-script-in-admin-account?forum=ITCG&prof=required
    My requirement is that, I am need to run the powershell script via a network account. The powershell is called via a script on an ETL tool. When I ask it to print the output of the below command, the output says " Enter
    the password of domain\username:".
    PS > runas
    /user:{domain}\{username} powershell -file {nameOfPowershellScript.ps1}
    Hence I had to modify the code to pass the password also in the same command. I am new to powershell scripting and the below command doesn't work.
    Please suggest the appropriate way to pass the password of the network account.
     Referred to a link http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/ff714574.aspx.
    $password = Get-Content c:\temp\password.txt | ConvertTo-SecureString
    $credential = New-Object System.Management.Automation.PSCredential
    "CachedUser",$password
    PS > runas
    /user:{domain}\{username} powershell -file {nameOfPowershellScript.ps1}
    PS >$credential.Password | ConvertFrom-SecureString | Set-Content
    c:\temp\password.txt

    Thanks for the pointer. Question that I have is I am referencing sqljdbc4.jar in my application, which in turn using sqljdbc_auth.dll.
    Which one should i refernce through <nativelib>. Is it sqljdbc4.jar or sqljdbc_auth.dll.
    have added the following line to the .jnlp.
    <nativelib href="sqljdbc4.jar"/>
    But still it is complaining on sqljdbc_audth.dll. If it is sqljdbc_auth.dll, can I use <nativelib> to pass it.
    In that case does it need to be signed?. If so,
    Is it possible to sign .dll using 'jarsigner'?.

  • Passing password in an AS script to a shell command

    Hi,
    I'm posting here based on this discution:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=345269
    In my case I want to pass the password to the rsync command. The command I use is on the format:
    rsync -vr --size-only ~/Sites/ usernameonserver@serveuraddress:/path/to/the/directory
    Normally rsync will ask for a password. How the password and username are passed from AS to terminal (or what is equivalent to)?
    it is important to mention that the user and password are not local, but on the remote server.
    Thanks

    Hi Steve,
    As you've probably gathered, from this post and the other thread you linked to, AppleScript doesn't really offer a straightforward way to run command line tools that require user interaction.
    The suggestions NovaScotian offered may work for your rsync dilemma, but I thought I'd mention another option that you might want to investigate for this or other similar problems. There is a command line tool called "expect" that is specifically tailored for automating the running and interaction with other commands that require user responses. See the man page for "expect" for specifics.
    Basically "expect" allows you to write a script that controls what other process it launches, what prompts to wait for and what values to feed to the prompts. These expect scripts can be as complex as you need to make them and they can deal with multiple secondary processes if needed. The expect script can sort of act as a "middle-man" between AppleScript and the actual command line tool(s) you want to run. AppleScript runs an expect script, the expect script runs the command you really want to execute and deals with any interactive prompts and finally returns any results back to the AppleScript.
    So, getting back to your rsync problem... you could write your AppleScript to call an "expect" script passing it the rsync password. And you would write your expect script to accept the password as one of it's command line parameters. The expect script would then launch rsync, wait for the password prompt and then feed rsync the password you gave it from AppleScript. The expect script would finally return any output or error messages from rsync back to AppleScript.
    This may be overkill for your particular problem since rsync apparently gives you other mechanisms for dealing with the password. But in some situations it may be the best or only solution for running interactive command line tools from AppleScript.

    Correct, you need to encrypt then sign.

  • How we run command line commands in oracle

    Hi,
    In sql server i have an option "xp_cmdshell" i can run windows commands e.g "dir " using query analyzer.
    How can i do same thing in oracle
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Faheem

    > MY SELECT:select OSexec('dir') as STDOUT from dual;
    ERROR:-1command[dir] The handle is invalid.
    In the sample code, I've executed a Linux/Unix program called date, physical file /usr/bin/date.
    Is there a DATE.EXE or a DIR.EXE program that you can execute on Windows?
    No. Both DATE and DIR are commands of a program - a 32bit console program called CMD.EXE.
    Your confusion stems from thinking that OSEXEC is calling the Windows shell command line. It is not. It is not calling CMD.EXE and passing Window Shell Commands to CMD.EXE.
    OSEXEC is calling, via Java, the Win32 API call called CreateProcess(). This is a call to the Win32 kernel. It requests the kernel to load an executable program as a process image.
    The kernel expects an EXE (or executable) file to load. You are passing it a command from a program. You just as well can pass it a Java command, a MS Access Basic Command, an Excel Macro, etc... Same thing. The kernel has no idea that this "command" needs another program to be loaded, and that command be "passed" somehow to that program.
    So, you need to call CMD.EXE via OSEXEC. And you can pass parameters to it. Open a Command Console and type cmd /? for help on the command line switches and parameters for CMD.EXE.
    I believe the following should work:
    SQL> select OSEXEC( 'c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe /c date /t') from dual;

  • How to "telnet" and run commands on another computer?

    I have a Unix program. I need this to "telnet" to a Windows computer and run commands (via the prompt in Windows). Is there a way to do this in java?
    Also it is something that will be a cron job so the password will be stored in a file rather than the user typing it at the screen. There is no GUI. There is no server or java process running on Windows at the time. The Unix program needs to connect to Windows only when needed.

    Try enabling the Windows telnet server, use a regular telnet client and check if it is enough for your needs.
    Several commands in Windows apparently could be run in command-line mode using telnet, but for some reason they don't work very well. For instance, they could be using some special console-mode APIs for hiding the cursor or drawing characters in different colors, that simply will not be echoed by the telnet server.
    I remember when I've tried to use the osql tool (a command-line interface) of MS SQL Server in a Windows telnet server session. Some things simply didn't work.

  • SSH SUDO passwordless to run commands on remote server

    Hi Experts,
    We are running various OS/Network and Database related commands and scripts on Local and Remote Server to perform/compare the results
    As part of this activity, we have bottleneck on running commands/scripts on the remote server as we need to provide password everytime whenever we use SSH command
    Also, we need to run command as ssh sudo su - oracle for security purpose which prompts password two times.
    we would like to automate this process in order to save password securely(temporarily) while running ssh sudo commands/scripts.
    I see, there are various solutions using SSHPASS,EXPECT commands, however we dont have anything available to use within our group.
    We may not be able to use SSHPASS as this component not installed during VM build, so we left with only option to use EXPECT.
    So, Need your help to get any example working script using EXPECT for ssh sudo passwordless connection.
    Appreciate if anybody can share ideas or working scripts
    Thanks in advance

    FWIW, here is a small script that I wrote several years ago that may help you to automate the password less ssh setup with a remote system. I just verified it and changed it to create a RSA key. The script still works and runs fine under Oracle Linux and Mac OS X.
    Simply create a script called "passwordless-ssh" with the content shown below.
    Assign execute privileges: chmod u+x passwordless-ssh
    Then run the script as following:
    ./passwordless-ssh user@target_hostname_or_ip
    The script will create a ssh RSA private and public key, prompt for the remote host password and the copy the pubic key to the remote host. A subsequent ssh login to the remote host should no longer prompt for the password. It is essential however that the scrips runs in an interactive session, which is verified.
    #!/bin/bash
    # Creating SSH public RSA key if non exist and copying it to remote target

  • Running commands as normal user

    Hi.
    Is it possible to do these things?
    Run audio without sudo...
    (Un)mount partitions without sudo...
    Poweroff, or reboot, without sudo...
    For instance, If I run:
    adduser myusername audio
    I'm told that the user already exists. I'm pretty sure nobody would design a system where everything you do needs to be sudo'ed. What am I doing wrong?

    I use pmount/pumount for mounting/unmounting as user.
    I've edited my sudoers file to give my user account access (only on this computer) to issue certain commands without a password. As far as I'm concerned, system commands such as shutdown should only be allowed to run as root. It's just a convenience for me not to have to type my password when using sudo.
    # less /etc/sudoers

    # Failure to use 'visudo' may result in syntax or file permission errors

  • TS-Run Command Line-run as different user

    HI
    I needed to deploy one program which do not like SYSTEM account (do not installs). So I created TaskSequence with
    Run Command line and specified domain user which will be running this command.
    Is my domain users password safe or it will be provided in clear text in my network? Because this user must be Admin on local computer.

    Just to reinforce, the tasks use standard, core Windows APIs to impersonate the account and execute the command -- these APIs never send anything in clear text and if they did, then Windows has much bigger issues. It would actually take
    a huge amount of effort to not securely perform this operation.

    Thanks a bunch.

    Hi there,
    I have a shell script which has user id and
    password stored in variables. I call a javaprogram
    from this shell script. I tried accessing this
    environment variable from java using
    system.getproperty and java is not getting the

    Presumably you are using one of the newer java
    versions.
    Questions
    1. What statements are you using to set, export and
    run java?
    2. What shell are you using?
    3. How are you accessing the vars in java?
    I do not want to pass it as arguments because of
    security reasons. can anybody help me please.
    That is nonsensical. Putting it in env vars exposes
    it more than passing it as args.Thanks for replying jschell.
    1. I am using newer version java 1.5
    2. shell scripts gets it's variables from oracle reports through webservices.
    3. to run java i use java javaclassname3. I used EXPORT variablename and in java called system.getproperty(variablename)But system.getproperty is getting a null.
    And the decision about not passing it as args was made by our client. They think it's not safe to pass password.
    are they wrong??
    Please help me.

  • Can ACS run commands at logon for specific users?

    I have a scenario where I'd like a command run at the time a user logs into the device. Can ACS do this on behalf of the user during the logon process?

    Sure. Bigip LTM, once authenticated, drops users into what is called a TMSH shell. This breaks rancid since rancid expects to be in a bash shell.
    You can access bash from TMSH via a command(run util bash). I'd like ACS to pass this command and run it the moment the rancid user logs in. That way subsoquent commands from rancid will work since he will at that point be at a bash prompt.
    Basically a logon script that runs commands for the user at the time the user logs in.

  • Is there a way to change the VNC password thru unix command in ARD2?

    In a local network, I get access denied errors from macs that have the vnc password different than the Administrative login user password. I needed to change the Admistrator password which I did thru the Unix command in ARD2.
    Now.
    Is there a way to change the VNC password thru unix command in ARD2?
    Example:
    remote computer setup
    Panther 10.3.9
    vnc password - gopher
    user ID - testARD with admin rights
    user password - backdoor
    ARD2 Computer setup
    10.4.10
    login ID - testARD
    password - backdoor
    I get the blue icon but get an 'access denied' error.
    I change the password from backdoor to gopher.
    I get the red with dash icon but, can get access to the computer.
    What is going on? Is ARD2 using the VNC resource instead of ARDs resources?

    A quick search of Google finds this <http://www.macgeekery.com/tips/cli/settingremote_desktops_vnc_password_interminal>. I have not tested this myself.
