Passing a tagname from a tag query action to a tag query
In BLS, I want to pass a tagname to a tag query . So, I created a "blank" tag query . Then, using a tag query action, I get a "No tag requested" error while generating the XML sample .
Please advice, Best regards
Hi Antonio,
You must add a tag name either through the Configuration dialog - Parameter Name: TagName.1 - and the name of the tag as the Parameter Value in order to generate the XML sample. Otherwise, in the Link Editor, you would link a tagname into the tag query parameter TagName.1 - in this case you would answer "No" to the "Generate Sample XML" in the Configuration dialog.
You could also do both, but, at runtime, what is linked in the Link Editor will overwrite what is configured in the Configuration dialog. Hope this helps!

Passing an array from one jsp page to another.
I need to pass an array from one page to another, without using the query string.
Can anyone help?
I was given one suggestion about putting the array inside a Map object, then putting the map in the session.
Is there an alternative? i am struggling to find out how to use maps properly.
Alternatively, could someone give me a pointer on how to implement this possibility?
Help needed ASAP.
ThankyouFirst.jsp
String[] str = {1,2,3,4,5};
session = request.getSession(true);
session.setAttribute("str",str); //or application.setAttribute("str",str);
Second.jsp
session = request.getSession();
String str[] = (String[])session.getAttribute("str"); //or String str[] = (String[]) application.getAttribute("str");
Now you can use str[].

Pass Key date from Sender to Receiver Query
Hi,
We have a requirement to pass key date from the sender query to receiver query.
In our sender query we derive the key date based on the calendar month value entered by the user on the variable screen and this is used to determine the hierarchy structure to be used for report.
The user have the option to drill down to detailed query (using RRI) from the context menu option. We would like to use the same key date in the drill down query as the sender query. The drill down query does not have any variable selection.
In RRI settings I can not see the way to pass on the key date.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
AnkitHi Suman,
Yes, we do not have variables in the receiver query as we expect the settings in RSBBS to pass the filter values to the receiver query and which is being done consistently.
The problem is that we do not have any option to pass key date. If required we can add a customer exit variable but how will it work if the user does not want to enter the variable values for the drill down report.
Thanks

Is it possible to pass a variable from a shell script back to an Automator action?
Is it possible to pass a variable from a shell script back to an Automator action?
For instance, if I assign a value of foo to $var1 in my shell script how would I retrieve/pass that value in the next Automator action. I see that there is a variable called "Shell Script" but I can't any information on how to use it.red_menace,
Thanks but I still don't understand how to pass a single value that was set in the UNIX scipt back to Automator has a variable. Take the example below, I write 4 varables to STDOUT and all 4 are stored in a variable named "storage". How do I assign 1 of these values to the Automator "storage" variable? For instance if I wanted to assign the value of $var2 to "storage" , how would I do that? -
Passing YTD selection from a main query to a detailed query using RRI
Hi,
We have created two queries: one main query on an infocube for aggregated data, one detailed query on the feeding DSO for data at the level of sales document items.
Both queries show monthly and YTD (year-to-date) actual cost figures.
The user enters for instance the month of 05.2005 on the main query in a variable ZP_MONTH.
A user exit variable ZS_YTD is calculated so that the interval 01.2005 - 05.2005 is stored in ZS_YTD.
Revenues in the month are displayed in one column.
Revenues in the YTD period are displayed in another column.
Assume the data is displayed by document types.
Then the user should select the document type and perform a jump target (Goto) to the detailed query to see which sales document items are contributing to the total revenues behind the document type.
We have defined a ZS_YTD_2 variable on the detailed query. It is used in the field assignments in the RSBBS transaction to receive the 0CALMONTH selection (in our case 01.2005 - 05.2005). Then on the detailed query, we defined another userexit variable to capture the selected month based on ZS_YTD_2.
Our issue is that when the user goes from the main query to the detailed query, the variable screen of the detailed query is being displayed with the variable ZS_YTD_2 open and the user can even change the selection there.
Is it possible to remove the display of this intermediate variable screen?
Thanks.Well. If you unflag the variable for ready for input on the detailed query, then it is not possible for that variable to receive the period selected on the main query. Even worse, the query crashes with the message that the variable is not correctly defined.
Any other suggestion?
Thanks. -
Issues passing drillthrough parameters from a multi-level tablix in SSRS 2008 R2
Hello,
I am really struggling with trying creating a drillthrough report that starts with a matrix (tablix) and passing those parameters. I am using SSRS 2008 R2.
Here's my scenario:
I have a matrix that has mulitple levels where you can drill down. Here an example with all the levels open:
Active
Term
Leave
Total
128

121
United States
110

I want to drillthrough to another report - Detail Report. As I understand it, I would click the 65 for New York and I would see the detail for the 65 Active people. If I click the 2 under Blois, I would see the 2 terminated people in Blois. My understanding
for this to work, the Detail Report would need a a parameter for each of the level possibilities in the matrix that I could click: Country, State, City as well as the Status (Active, Term, Leave).
While I understand about passing parameters, what I don't understand is how to pass the parameters if they are blank. Let's say I clicked 65 for New York, I would need to pass State = New York Status = Active. But the remaining parameters (Country
and City would be null). I know Country doesn't need to be Null in this case.
My Detail Report has the parameters defaulted to Null, but whether I put the parameters in a Filter for the dataset or in the query itself, I cannot get it to ignore the Nulls.
As a crazy work-around (I think) I can put in the Where of the query something along the lines of: this:
and (a.Country in (@paramCountryCode) or NULL in (@paramCountryCode) )
and I would need to do that for each parameter. Usually I have to use 'ALL' instead of NULL, I'm note sure why.
Additionally, in the Report Action of the Main Report, I need to pass those parameters for each level and their Status. I am also not clear whether or not I need to put in all the parameters on each of the levels (Country, State, City) of the matrix. And if
I do, do I need to make the expressions an IIF statement stating whether or not they are In Scope?
All the examples I was able to find, only showed one or maybe two parameters being passed. Doing the way I am trying, seems convoluted, error-prone and tedious. I really hope that I am wrong.
Is there a better way to approach drilltrough reports from a matrix when there are multiple levels?
Thank you for the help.
~JHi Jenna_Fire,
According to your description, you have a matrix contains total for each group on each level. Now your requirement is, when you click on any number (data field or total), it will go to the detail report which returns all the detail information of the people
within the group scope. For example, if you click on the total of Active users in United States, it will return the detail information of Active users in New York and Texas. Right?
In this scenario, we should set the parameter (@Country, @State, @City) allow multiple values in both main and detail report. And in Default Value (@Country, @State, @City), query out all distinct values. In the textbox which contains
those total values, when set use these parameters to run the report, we only need to pass the parameters of parent groups. For example, if we click on the total of Active users in New York, we only need to pass Country, State, Status to detail report, and
in the detail report, the City parameter will use all distinct values (Default Values) because we don't pass the City parameter. We have tested this case with sample data in our local environment. Here are steps and screenshots for your reference:
1. Create parameter Country, State, City and Status in both main report and detail report. Set both Available Value and Default Value get values from query (Create a dataset for each parameter, use "select distinct [column] from [table]" as query). Set allow
multiple values for parameter Country, State and City in both reports.
2. In corresponding textbox, pass appropriate parameters in go to report Action.
4. Filter data in detail report (in where clause or using filters).
5. Save and preview. It looks like below:

Need to send success or failure message to BAPI of SQL query action block
Hi All,
I need to send success or failure message(i.e. 1 or 0) to BAPI which has been called below sql query action block in transaction
Here in SAP, i have created on BAPI with one import parameter and one export parameter.
In the sql query action block, it insert records in the database table. If it fail or success, that message(numeric value 1 or 0) has to send to SAP program through BAPI.
I have created a SAP ABAP program which sends message to MII Message listener through RFC then in the process rule message it will call transaction, in transaction, sql query will insert records into database table. if it success or fail, it will pass to BAPI. And i calling that BAPI in the same SAP ABAP Program to show in the output screen.
Here the issues, i am not getting the value from BAPI which has send by the transaction in MII.
SAP Jco, I have mapped in conf. links --> BAPI input with sql query sucess
Thanks,

Is there a way to tell what is actually being passed to DB from PreparedSta
Is there a way to tell what is actually being passed to DB from PreparedStatement? What I mean by that is that I have a PreparedStatement that is a simple
prepstmt = connection.prepareStatement("Insert into table (col1, col2, col3, .... colx) values (?,?,?....?)");
(there are x ?s)
I precompile this, and later, when there is a connection I call set all the variables
prepstmt.setInt(1, someint); prepstmt.setString(2, "\\'" + somestring + "\\'"); etc... prepstmt.executeUpdate();
I get back an exception thrown by Oracle complaining that one of my values is too large for the column (but doesn't say what column/value).
So I made a string that contains what ought to be the same query
String debug = "Insert into table (col1, col2, col3, .... colx) values (someint,'somestring',etc....someotherint)"; System.out.println(debug);
I give the printed out line directly to Oracle through SQLScratchpad and it works just fine in there and I can confirm the row has been inserted. Nothing is too big.
Is there a way to look at what the PreparedStatement actually has as values in there? I found I could look at the original statement (the one with the ?s) if I expand the prepstmt object in the debugger's (Eclipse) view, but nothing to show me where the values were filled in.
Thanks for any help you can give me.Hrm, I'm suspecting that perhaps it has to do something with setting CHAR fields. Some of the fields in this table are CHAR but I don't see a call in my PreparedStatement that can set a char, only a String, so that's what I've been using, but it may be that that's not the right thing to do. I'm running Java 1.5.10, and looking through the API there doesn't seem to be anything specifically for char.

Passing a parameter from one class to another class in the same package
Hi.
I am trying to pass a parameter from one class to another class with in a package.And i am Getting the variable as null every time.In the code there is two classes.
i. BugWatcherAction.java
ii.BugWatcherRefreshAction.Java.
We have implemented caching in the front-end level.But according to the business logic we need to clear the cache and again have to access the database after some actions are happened.There are another class file called BugwatcherPortletContent.java.
So, we are dealing with three java files.The database interaction is taken care by the portletContent.java file.Below I am giving the code for the perticular function in the bugwatcherPortletContent.java:
==============================================================
public Object loadContent() throws Exception {
Hashtable htStore = new Hashtable();
JetspeedRunData rundata = this.getInputData();
String pId = this.getPorletId();
PortalLogger.logDebug(" in the portlet content: "+pId);
pId1=pId;//done by sraha
htStore.put("PortletId", pId);
htStore.put("BW_HOME_URL",CommonUtil.getMessage("BW.Home.Url"));
htStore.put("BW_BUGVIEW_URL",CommonUtil.getMessage("BW.BugView.Url"));
HttpServletRequest request = rundata.getRequest();
PortalLogger.logDebug(
"BugWatcherPortletContent:: build normal context");
HttpSession session = null;
int bugProfileId = 0;
Hashtable bugProfiles = null;
Hashtable bugData = null;
boolean fetchProfiles = false;
try {
session = request.getSession(true);
// Attempting to get the profiles from the session.
//If the profiles are not present in the session, then they would have to be
// obtained from the database.
bugProfiles = (Hashtable) session.getAttribute("Profiles");
//Getting the selected bug profile id.
String bugProfileIdObj = request.getParameter("bugProfile" + pId);
// Getting the logged in user
String userId = request.getRemoteUser();
if (bugProfiles == null) {
fetchProfiles = true;
if (bugProfileIdObj == null) {
// setting the bugprofile id as -1 indicates "all profiles" is selected
bugProfileIdObj =(String) session.getAttribute("bugProfileId" + pId);
if (bugProfileIdObj == null) {
bugProfileId = -1;
else {
bugProfileId = Integer.parseInt(bugProfileIdObj);
else {
bugProfileId = Integer.parseInt(bugProfileIdObj);
session.setAttribute(
("bugProfileId" + pId),
Integer.toString(bugProfileId));
//fetching the bug list
bugData =BugWatcherAPI.getbugList(userId, bugProfileId, fetchProfiles);
PortalLogger.logDebug("BugWatcherPortletContent:: got bug data");
if (bugData != null) {
Hashtable htProfiles = (Hashtable) bugData.get("Profiles");
} else {
htStore.put("NoProfiles", "Y");
} catch (CodedPortalException e) {
htStore.put("Error", CommonUtil.getErrMessage(e.getMessage()));
PortalLogger.logException
("BugWatcherPortletContent:: CodedPortalException!!",e);
} catch (Exception e) {
PortalLogger.logException(
"BugWatcherPortletContent::Generic Exception!!",e);
htStore.put( "Error",CommonUtil.getErrMessage(ErrorConstantsI.GET_BUGLIST_FAILED));
if (fetchProfiles) {
bugProfiles = (Hashtable) bugData.get("Profiles");
session.setAttribute("Profiles", bugProfiles);
// putting the stuff in the context
htStore.put("Profiles", bugProfiles);
htStore.put("SelectedProfile", new Integer(bugProfileId));
htStore.put("bugs", (ArrayList) bugData.get("Bugs"));
return htStore;
=============================================================
And I am trying to call this function as it can capable of fetching the data from the database by "getbugProfiles".
In the new class bugWatcherRefreshAction.java I have coded a part of code which actually clears the caching.Below I am giving the required part of the code:
=============================================================
public void doPerform(RunData rundata, Context context,String str) throws Exception {
JetspeedRunData data = (JetspeedRunData) rundata;
HttpServletRequest request = null;
//PortletConfig pc = portlet.getPortletConfig();
//String userId = request.getRemoteUser();
/*String userId = ((JetspeedUser)rundata.getUser()).getUserName();//sraha on 1/4/05
String pId = request.getParameter("PortletId");
PortalLogger.logDebug("just after pId " +pId); */
//Calling the variable holding the value of portlet id from BugWatcherAction.java
//We are getting the portlet id here , through a variable from BugWatcherAction.java
/*BugWatcherPortletContent bgAct = new BugWatcherPortletContent();
String portletID = bgAct.pId1;
PortalLogger.logDebug("got the portlet ID in bugwatcherRefreshAction:---sraha"+portletID);*/
// updating the bug groups
Hashtable result = new Hashtable();
try {
request = data.getRequest();
String userId = ((JetspeedUser)data.getUser()).getUserName();//sraha on 1/4/05
//String pId = (String)request.getParameter("portletId");
//String pId = pc.getPorletId();
PortalLogger.logDebug("just after pId " +pId);
PortalLogger.logDebug("after getting the pId-----sraha");
result =BugWatcherAPI.getbugList(profileId, userId);
PortalLogger.logDebug("select the new bug groups:: select is done ");
context.put("SelectedbugGroups", profileId);
//start clearing the cache
ContentCacheContext cacheContext = getCacheContext(rundata);
PortalLogger.logDebug("listBugWatcher Caching - removing markup content - before removecontent");
// remove the markup content from cache.
PortletContentCache.removeContent(cacheContext);
PortalLogger.logDebug("listBugWatcher Caching-removing markup content - after removecontent");
//remove the backend content from cache
CacheablePortletData pdata =(CacheablePortletData) PortletCache.getCacheable(PortletCacheHelper.getUserHandle(((JetspeedUser)data.getUser()).getUserName()));
PortalLogger.logDebug("listBugWatcher Caching User: " +((JetspeedUser)data.getUser()).getUserName());
PortalLogger.logDebug("listBugWatcher Caching pId: " +pId);
if (pdata != null)
// User's data found in cache!
PortalLogger.logDebug("listBugWatcher Caching -inside pdata!=null");
pdata.removeObject(PortletCacheHelper.getUserPortletHandle(((JetspeedUser)data.getUser()).getUserName(),pId));
PortalLogger.logDebug("listBugWatcher Caching -inside pdata!=null- after removeObject");
PortalLogger.logDebug("listBugWatcher Caching -finish calling the remove content code");
//end clearing the cache
// after clearing the caching calling the data from the database taking a fn from the portletContent.java
PortalLogger.logDebug("after clearing cache---sraha");
BugWatcherPortletContent bugwatchportcont = new BugWatcherPortletContent();
Hashtable httable= new Hashtable();
httable=(Hashtable)bugwatchportcont.loadContent();
PortalLogger.logDebug("after making the type casting-----sraha");
Set storeKeySet = httable.keySet();
Iterator itr = storeKeySet.iterator();
while (itr.hasNext()) {
String paramName = (String) itr.next();
context.put(paramName, httable.get(paramName));
PortalLogger.logDebug("after calling the databs data from hashtable---sraha");
} catch (CodedPortalException e) {
PortalLogger.logException("bugwatcherRefreshAction:: Exception- ",e);
context.put("Error", CommonUtil.getErrMessage(e.getMessage()));
catch (Exception e) {
PortalLogger.logException("bugwatcherRefreshAction:: Exception- ",e);
context.put( "Error",CommonUtil.getErrMessage(ErrorConstantsI.EXCEPTION_CODE));
try {
((JetspeedRunData) data).setCustomized(null);
if (((JetspeedRunData) data).getCustomized() == null)
ActionLoader.getInstance().exec(data,"controls.EndCustomize");
catch (Exception e)
PortalLogger.logException("bugwatcherRefreshAction", e);
===============================================================
In the bugwatcher Action there is another function called PostLoadContent.java
here though i have found the portlet Id but unable to fetch that in the bugWatcherRefreshAction.java . I am also giving the code of that function under the bugWatcherAction.Java
================================================
// Get the PortletData object from intermediate store.
CacheablePortletData pdata =(CacheablePortletData) PortletCache.getCacheable(PortletCacheHelper.getUserHandle(
//rundata.getRequest().getRemoteUser()));
((JetspeedUser)rundata.getUser()).getUserName()));
pId1 = (String)portlet.getID();
PortalLogger.logDebug("in the bugwatcher action:"+pId1);
try {
Hashtable htStore = null;
// if PortletData is available in store, get current portlet's data from it.
if (pdata != null) {
htStore =(Hashtable) pdata.getObject( PortletCacheHelper.getUserPortletHandle(
((JetspeedUser)rundata.getUser()).getUserName(),portlet.getID()));
//Loop through the hashtable and put its elements in context
Set storeKeySet = htStore.keySet();
Iterator itr = storeKeySet.iterator();
while (itr.hasNext()) {
String paramName = (String) itr.next();
context.put(paramName, htStore.get(paramName));
bugwatcherRefreshAction bRefAc = new bugwatcherRefreshAction();
bRefAc.doPerform(pdata,context,pId1);
=============================================================
So this is the total scenario for the fetching the data , after clearing the cache and display that in the portal.I am unable to do that.Presently it is still fetching the data from the cache and it is not going to the database.Even the portlet Id is returning as null.
I am unable to implement that thing.
If you have any insight about this thing, that would be great .As it is very urgent a promt response will highly appreciated.Please send me any pointers or any issues for this I am unable to do that.
Please let me know as early as possible.
Thanks and regards,
Santanu Raha.Have you run it in a debugger? That will show you exactly what is happening and why.

Passing a parameter from a web application to the sub report.
Hi I am currently passing a parameter from the webpage into the main crystal report. I would like to pass this same parameter to the subreport but when I right click on the subreport from the main report I can find the parameter on the main report but there is nothing to link it to on the subreport (since this window just shows the dataset). I also tried adding a parameter to the subreport but it does not show up in the link window on the (select data in subreport to link to). I am using vs2005 and the crystal reports that comes with this.
Thanks.Hi, Paul;
There are many samples on our site that show passing parameters to both main reports and subreports. Have a search at

How to pass a parameter from one action1 in block1 to action2 in block2.
Dear Experts,
How to pass a parameter from one action1 in block1 to action2 in block2.
My Process Structure is as follows..
Process
Sequential Block
Action 1
Parallel Dynamic Block
Sequential Sub Block
Action 2.
while i am trying to execute the action1 the following error is shown below:
Cannot complete action: The activity could not be read.
Please suggest me how to do?
Regards,
Rajesh NHello Rajesh!
I think you are talk about the mapping parameters of your process.
This case in design time of your workflow, you have the vision of your blocks and actions, you have on action 1 the output parameter and you have the action 2 an input parameter.
So you have that make a group mapping on your process, map in this group the action1 outpu parameter with the action2 input parameter.

Passing Tables back from Java Stored Procedures
Thomas Kyte has written (in reference to
trying to pass an array back from a stored
function call):
You can do one of two things (and both require the use of
objects). You cannot use PLSQL table types as JDBC cannot bind to
this type -- we must use OBJECT Types.
[snip]
Another way is to use a result set and "select * from
plsql_function". It could look like this:
ops$tkyte@8i> create or replace type myTableType as table of
varchar2 (64);
2 /
Type created.
ops$tkyte@8i>
ops$tkyte@8i>
ops$tkyte@8i> create or replace
2 function demo_proc2( p_rows_to_make_up in number )
3 return myTableType
4 as
5 l_data myTableType := myTableType();
6 begin
7 for i in 1 .. p_rows_to_make_up
8 loop
9 l_data.extend;
10 l_data(i) := 'Made up row ' | | i;
11 end loop;
12 return l_data;
13 end;
14 /
Function created.
ops$tkyte@8i>
ops$tkyte@8i> select *
2 from the ( select cast( demo_proc2(5) as mytableType )
3 from dual );
COLUMN_VALUE
Made up row 1
Made up row 2
Made up row 3
Made up row 4 [Image]
Made up row 5
So, your JDBC program would just run the query to get the data.
If the function "demo_proc2" cannot be called from SQL for
whatever reason (eg: it calls an impure function in another piece
of code or it itself tries to modify the database via an insert
or whatever), you'll just make a package like:
ops$tkyte@8i> create or replace package my_pkg
2 as
3
4 procedure Make_up_the_data( p_rows_to_make_up in
number ); 5 function Get_The_Data return myTableType;
6 end;
7 /
Package created.
ops$tkyte@8i>
ops$tkyte@8i> create or replace package body my_pkg
2 as
3
4 g_data myTableType;
5
6 procedure Make_up_the_data( p_rows_to_make_up in number )
7 as
8 begin
9 g_data := myTableType();
10 for i in 1 .. p_rows_to_make_up
11 loop
12 g_data.extend;
13 g_data(i) := 'Made up row ' | | i;
14 end loop;
15 end;
16
17
18 function get_the_data return myTableType
19 is
20 begin
21 return g_data;
22 end;
23
24 end;
25 /
Package body created.
ops$tkyte@8i>
ops$tkyte@8i> exec my_pkg.make_up_the_data( 3 );
PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
ops$tkyte@8i>
ops$tkyte@8i> select *
2 from the ( select cast( my_pkg.get_the_data as mytableType
) 3 from dual );
COLUMN_VALUE
Made up row 1
Made up row 2
Made up row 3
And you'll call the procedure followed by a query to get the
data...
I have tried this, and it works perfectly.
My question, is what does the wrapper look
like if the stored function is written
in java instead of PL/SQL? My experiments
with putting the function in java have been
dismal failures. (I supposed I should also
ask how the java stored procedure might
look also, as I suppose that could be where
I have been having a problem)
nullThanks for the response Avi, but I think I need to clarify my question. The articles referenced in your link tended to describe using PL/SQL ref cursors in Java stored procedures and also the desire to pass ref cursors from Java to PL/SQL programs. Unfortunately, what I am looking to do is the opposite.
We currently have several Java stored procedures that are accessed via select statements that have become a performance bottleneck in our system. Originally the business requirements were such that only a small number of rows were ever selected and passed into the Java stored procedures. Well, business requirements have changed and now thousands and potentially tens of thousands of rows can be passed in. We benchmarked Java stored procedures vs. PL/SQL stored procedures being accessed via a select statement and PL/SQL had far better performance and scaleable. So, our thought is by decouple the persistence logic into PL/SQL and keeping the business logic in Java stored procedures we can increase performance without having to do a major rewrite of the existing code. This leads to the current problem.
What we currently do is select into a Java stored procedure which has many database access calls. What we would like to do is select against a PL/SQL stored procedure to aggregate the data and then pass that data via a ref cursor (or whatever structure is acceptable) to a Java stored procedure. This would save us a significant amount of work since the current Java stored procedures would simple need to be changed to not make database calls since the data would be handed to them.
Is there a way to send a ref cursor from PL/SQL as an input parameter to a Java stored procedure? My call would potentially look like this:
SELECT java_stored_proc(pl/sql_stored_proc(col_id))
FROM table_of_5000_rows;
Sorry for the lengthy post.
