Passing arguments from Air to Photoshop jsx script

I would like to invoke JavaScript file in Photoshop from my Adobe Air application. I managed to call my script with the following code:
// Create native startup info
nativeProcessStartupInfo = new NativeProcessStartupInfo();
nativeProcessStartupInfo.executable = filePhotoshop; // File referencing Photoshop exe
// Create Vector array to pass arguments
procarg = new Vector.<String>();
procarg.push("start");
procarg.push(jsFileToCall);// String with path to my jsx file
procarg.push(scriptData); // String with argument to pass to jsx file
nativeProcessStartupInfo.arguments = procarg;
// Create native process object for calling  executable file
process = new NativeProcess();
// SET ERROR HANDLERS
process.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.STANDARD_ERROR_DATA ,onError,false,0,true);
process.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.STANDARD_ERROR_IO_ERROR ,onError,false,0,true);
process.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.STANDARD_INPUT_IO_ERROR ,onError,false,0,true);
process.addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.STANDARD_OUTPUT_IO_ERROR ,onError,false,0,true);
process.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.STANDARD_ERROR_DATA ,onError,false,0,true);
// CALL NATIVE PROCESS
process.start(nativeProcessStartupInfo);
The Photoshop app is started, my JavaScript is invoked, but the argument is not passed into jsx.
Is there any method how to pass arguments to script in Photoshop? (I know that I can use the file to pass the parameters, but I do not like that solution.)
Thanks in advance for any hint.

The only documented way I know of is programming the script as a Photoshop Plug-in that has a dialog. Then record using the script in an action.  The script will record the arguments used in its dialog into the Photoshop Actions step.  Then when the action is used played the action recorded arguments are retrived and the script bypasses displaying its dialog.
However In CS3 I looked at Adobe Photoshop  Image Processor JavaScript it internaly used the Fit Image Plug-in Script and passed the width and hight to it. So it is posible to pass arguments from one JSX to an JSX Plug-in Script.
From CS5 "Image Processor.jsx"
// use the fit image automation plug-in to do this work for me
function FitImage( inWidth, inHeight ) {
          if ( inWidth == undefined || inHeight == undefined ) {
                    alert( strWidthAndHeight );
                    return;
          var desc = new ActionDescriptor();
          var unitPixels = charIDToTypeID( '#Pxl' );
          desc.putUnitDouble( charIDToTypeID( 'Wdth' ), unitPixels, inWidth );
          desc.putUnitDouble( charIDToTypeID( 'Hght' ), unitPixels, inHeight );
          var runtimeEventID = stringIDToTypeID( "3caa3434-cb67-11d1-bc43-0060b0a13dc4" );
          executeAction( runtimeEventID, desc, DialogModes.NO );
If You can write a file from Adobe Air you could also write the jsx file to pass the args you want to pass a to plug-in script via the ActionManager.

  • How to pass arguments from command line to the .jsx

    Hi, I have a .jsx file that does some scripting with photoshop. I would like to be able to call that script from the command line and pass some arguments. I have been going off of the forum at http://support.muse.adobe.com/thread/290023, mainly the last post. Here it is ...
    command line example : runjavascript.vbs c:\mydirectory\test.jsx arg0 arg1 arg2 arg3
    =====start runjavascript.vbs ===============
    Set vbsArguments = WScript.Arguments
    If vbsArguments.Length = 0 Then
    WScript.Echo "Argument(0) is `your script to execute"
    WScript.Echo "Arguments(0+n) are passed to your script as argument(0) to argument(n-1)"
    Else
    ReDim jsxArguments(vbsArguments.length-2)
    for i = 1 to vbsArguments.length - 1
    jsxArguments(i-1) = vbsArguments(i)
    Next
    Set photoshop = CreateObject( "Photoshop.Application" )
    photoshop.BringToFront
    'DoJavaScript has 3 parameters
    ' syntax DoJavaScript(arg[0], arg[1], arg[2]]
    'arg[0] == javascript file to execute, full pathname
    'arg[1] == an array of arguments to past to the javascript
    'arg[2] == AiJavaScriptExecutionMode: aiNeverShowDebugger = 1,, aiDebuggerOnError = 2 aiBeforeRunning = 3
    ' only use 1
    Call photoshop.DoJavaScriptFile( vbsArguments(0), jsxArguments, 1)
    End IF
    =====end runjavascript.vbs ===============
    =======start test.jsx ====================
    #target photoshop
    for( n = 0 ; n < arguments.length; n++ ){
    alert("argument("+ n+")= " + arguments[n]);
    =======end test.jsx ====================
    In summary, it calls a VBScript from the command line and passing args to the VBScript where it will run the .jsx and pass along the args to the .jsx. This is all seems to work, except that the args never make it from the command line into the .jsx and I'm having trouble narrowing down why.
    I know the args are getting into the VBScript from the command line because I can successfully print them out using WScript.Echo. The VBScript then takes the args and makes a new array called jsxArguments which just holds the arguments that are to be passed on to the .jsx as the second argument in the DoJavaScriptFile().
    I cannot tell if the jsxArguments is correct or not. I added an isobject(jsxArguments) check in the VBScript which fails, but if I do a WScript.Echo jsxArguments(0) it will correctly print out the contents of the array at that position.
    I know that the args are not getting into the .jsx because I added a line alert(arguments.length) which prints out 0.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    I don't use VBS so this is just a guess based on what I have read in this forum. I think when you are passing an 'array' to javascript it needs to be a variant data type. My guess your arguments are not making it to the javascript because it it the wrong data type.

  • Accessing passed arguments from php script?

    I have a php script which will pass an argument which I need
    to turn in to a coldfusion variable, how should I go about doing
    this?

    I am developing a cf application to interface with the PLESK
    control panel's Event manager to dynamically setup cf security
    sandboxes when a new domain is added to PLESK. Plesk uses encrypted
    php3 files and with the use of the event manager API I can pass the
    new domain name to any script. However, I cannot alter the way
    PLESK sends the param <new domain> therefore a cfhttp post is
    impossible. All I can do is path the new domain as an argument to
    the file IE: myscript.cfm.
    I have tested passing the new domain to a bash shell script
    and then using bash to drop the new domain name into a database
    then using CURL to execute the .cfm file which sets up the new
    sandbox. This is tested and working on Linux servers but now my
    task is to do the same for Windows servers, hence I would prefer to
    keep all the coding under cf

  • Problem passing arguments with air.swf

    I'm attempting to launch my AIR application using
    launchApplication() in air.swf. I'm having problems passing
    arguments to my application due to what appears to be some
    restriction in allowed characters. To get around this, I've even
    tried URL encoding and Base-64 encoding my arguments to make them
    more friendly, but it's still failing:
    Error: Invalid argument: PG5vIGlkZW50aWZpZXI+
    at AIR$/escapeArguments()
    at AIR/launchApplication()
    at
    adlm_launcher/onDownloadClick()[E:\adlm\launcher\src\adlm_launcher.mxml:181]
    It seems that any kind of punctuation is not allowed in
    arguments. URL encoding them doesn't work either because the % is
    rejected. Is there any other way around this?

    Yes; it's a security restriction. Browser invocation require
    process creation, and many process creation APIs giving special
    meanings to certain characters. Letting those characters through
    has in the past been a source of security vulnerabilities. While we
    also try to avoid using APIs with this behavior, extra layers of
    defense are also good.
    I think + and / may actually be safe choices; you make a good
    point that they're useful for Base64. If you could submit a feature
    request at www.adobe.com/go/wish, we'll definitely consider it.
    Another option, btw, is to use the LocalConnection API to
    pass data between the web page and your application once your app
    is launched. LocalConnection has fewer restrictions on the data
    passed.

  • Passing arguments to and running a Python script

    I have a Python script that I am creating a Java GUI for. How can I call this python script from within Java? I need to pass three arguments to the script, each one a string. Are Jepp / Jython what I need to use? Any tips for an absolute beginner at Java / Python integration?

    Yes, after you create the PythonInterpreter, you can just call set on it and those objects are then directly accessible in the jython scripts. To run blocks of code, I've been doing something like
    //after initialize and set interpreter vars
    PyObject locals = pythonInterpreter.getLocals();
    PyCode code = Py.compile_flags(source, filename, "exec", null);
    Py.exec(code, locals, locals);Note though that this was on Jython 2.1 or 2.2 a while back, so you might have a newer version with maybe not exactly the same method calls.

  • Passing params from SQL file to Shell Script and then from Shell to SQL Fil

    Afternoon guys,
    Have a fun question for all you gurus in shell scripting out there. I have a shell script that is calling 2
    different SQL programs. My objective is to pass a variable called request_number from one sql program
    to the shell script and then from the shell script back to another SQL program. I will explain why I
    need this to happen.
    Here is what the shell script looks like which calls sql programs student_load_a.sql and
    student_load_b.sql. Student_load_a.sql basically creates the control file (.ctl) which is needed for the
    SQL*Loader and then student_load_b.sql reads the table that was just loaded and does the main
    processing. My main objective here is to be passing the request_number which is being generated
    using an Oracle Sequence in student_load_a.sql and using this generated number in my main
    processing in student_load_b.sql to select records from the table based on request_number.
    Any ideas ?Any help or recommendations is welcome and appreciated.

  • Passing value from a program to sap script ?

    Hello Friends,
    While defining the header,footer or address window to assign a text we goto text element and assign it.
    Now is there any way where we can pass the value from the program.
    Eg : I want to pass the value for address from the abap editor to the address window in a sap script instead of assigning the address using the text element in sap script. Is it possible?
    Regards,
    Ranjith

    You can have subroutines in script.
    if you have any fields used to get address then using that fileds you can retrieve the address by defining subroutines in your form
    Reward points if useful.

  • How can I pass arguments from one MIDlet to another MIDlet

    Hi everybody !
    Can anybody help me in knowing that how can I pass the parameters from one
    MIDlets to another one in same application.
    I am devloping a application in which I am using more than two MIDlet and I
    want to transfer Parameter from one MIDlet to another one.
    I just explain what I have done....
    I made a MIDlet "A" and "B" in the same project using NetBeans IDE.
    In MIDlet "A" I create the Object of MIDlet "B" so that the constructor of
    MIDlet "B" is called and parameter can be transferred.
    But when I run the program it shows me two MIDlet on the screen, that I
    doesn't need.
    Suggestion are most welcome....
    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Bhagwat

    If you create two MIDlet in a midlet suite, it will display as you mentioned means you can't change the display style.

  • Passing Argument from Execute Process Task (SSIS) to an .exe file

    Hi,
    I am developing a SSIS package, where I want to execute exe file using Execute Process Task. The parameter for the ,exe file is the output of the SQL query from database.
    I am not knowing how to pass the output of the SQL query to the parameter of the Exe file. Can you please let me know how to pass the sql output data as parameter to the exe.
    Many Thanks, Thirumalai M

    Hi,
    you can use the following tutorial fr more information.
    http://www.sqlis.com/post/The-Execute-SQL-Task.aspx
    After getting the data in the variable, you can easily pass the variable in as a parameter for the "Execute process task".
