Passing Crystal Session to embedded Dashboard

Hi CR Folks,
We have requirement where we need to create a crystal report with embedded Flash obejct (Dashboard). As the dashboard has data connections, it prompts for login credentials while loading from the crystal report.
Is there a way I can pass a session token/id from Crystal to Dashboard/SWF?
PS: We can suppress Login Window by:
1. Passing CELogonToken from Dashboard/WEBI/Crystal to call report/dashboard object using OpenDocument URL.
2. Passing CELogonToken to DocumentDownload URL to load an SWF object in SWF Loader component of Dashboards.

The most efficient way to embed a dashboard Flash object in your report is to have Crystal provide ALL of the data for the dashboard instead of trying to connect the dashboard to outside data. There is no way to pass the BO logon token into the dashboard from Crystal - only the user name or user SI_ID value.

LO 02010 / LO 26631 error while embedding a crystal report in a Dashboard

Hi Experts,
I am trying to embed a crystal report in a Dashboard Design using LiveOffice 4, and i am getting the below error.
"An error occurred while opening the report. The report does not exist; you have insufficient rights to open the report; or you cannot make a connection to the BusinessObjects Web Service. (LO 02010)" and "Crystal Reports Java Format is not supported. (LO 26631)"
I am logging in as an administrator and the report does exist in the CMC.

We did a upgrade from BOBJ 3.1 to 4.0 recently, and need to migrate the existing dashboards. DB connections to the reports have changed, hence the need to embed the migrated reports to the dashboard.
Yes, I get this error when i try to embed a crystal report in dashboard. I do get the same error when trying to embed a WEBi report too. As you suggested, i tried inserting a sample crystal report, and that inserts like a charm.
Pls. advice.

Ummm you can't get a session ID unless you login first, chicken and egg problem? Have you looked at implementing SSO? That's the proper way of solving integration issues, hard-coding the user ID and the password on the URL is a nasty and insecure "hack"...

How Do I pass a filter to a dashboard page?

I'm working on Siebel Analytics 7.8.2. I have a dashboard with 2 pages. The requirement is to enable the user to be able to click/ drill from a metric result to another page. The navigation should also send a filter based on Organization (say Organization = 'ABC') to the next page. The destination page already has a dashboard prompt based on the Org column. All the reports displayed on the destination page have the Org column 'filtered'.
I've read in the PDF that there is a way of passing the filters though the Dashboard URL. I'm using the following in the Custom Data format for the source metric to drill down to the next page:

I already have the dashboard prompt configured (scope Dashboard) and set in the destination page. The source page has no prompts and the requirement was to be able to click from the source dashboard (the one without any prompts) to the destination (the one with the Org Prompt) and pass the value of an Org to the destination page.
I was able to do that with the following URL

The problem that I found was that it was not recognizing the table/ column names with the spaces. I tried with just space; with %20 to encode the white space and even '+' to encode space but it did not work. I then changed the name of the presentation table/ column to have no white spaces in the name and then it started passing the value.
However, even with the value as per the PDF we need to encode a white space with %20. But this was actually passing the value 'North%20America' instead of 'North America'. After changing the %20 to '+' the correct value of 'North America' started getting passed.
However, I now have a differnet problem. The PDF says that if you want to show the actual value of the column inside the link use "@". However, for me using "@" or @ or '@' shows the letter @ and not the actual column value.
Again I'm using the <a href> html tag to define the URL.
Any help on this is highly appreciated.

Export H264 pass-through movie with embedded text track QuickTime Pro 7 Windows?

Using QuickTime Pro 7 for Windows, I add a text track with closed captions to my H264 .mp4 videos.
The text track works great until I try to export it. After I've added the text track, the text track is displayed as long as the track is selected to be active using the Movie Inspector track GUI.
My movies are encoded as H264 for cross-platform compatibility, and need to remain in this format. The only way to save them in QuickTimePro 7 for Windows is to Export Movie to MPEG-4. I select Pass-Through mode to retain the resolution and bandwidth parameters that I initially encoded the video with.
Unfortunately, after I export to MPEG-4, the caption track is lost. It disappears. When I open the newly exported MPEG-4 caption file, and select Movie Inspector, the caption track is missing. Inspector only shows video and audio tracks.
If QuickTime Pro 7 for Windows correctly exported my text track with the video and audio tracks, then users would be able to view the closed captions upon playback in QuickTime Player by selecting View--> Show Closed Captioning (Ctrl+Alt+T).
Anyone been able to export to MPEG-4 pass-through movie with embedded text track QuickTime Pro 7 Windows?

Any tool to search Crystal Reports with embedded SQL

We have hundreds of Crystal Reports with embedded sql statements which have been developed over the years. Is there any tool which will allow us to scan all of the reports to see which ones might use a certain table, or is using a "group by" clause, or whatever ?
We'd prefer to not have to open each report to view the embedded sql.
Any thing that will extract the sql for us and dump it to a file ??
We have the reports as regular disk files, but they are also published to our Business Objects Enterprise XI R2 system (just an fyi in case there's an option on that side).

Windows Server 2008 x64 and Crystal Reports Server Embedded

We're attempting to certify our software with Windows Server 2008 x64 and want to know the best way to configure both the server and client of Crystal Reports Server Embedded. Currently, our software is certified against Windows Server 2003 x86, and we install Crystal Reports Server Embedded XI Release 2 (no SP) on the application server, and we deploy the Crystal Reports .NET merge modules for XI Release 2 (no SP) on any client machines.
I believe I am correct in stating that no version of Crystal Reports Server Embedded officially supports Windows Server 2008 x64 (based on some other forum postings) until SP1 comes out (which I don't think has happened at this point). If that is true, we can live with installing the RAS on a separate Windows Server 2003 x64, if that's even possible. With that said, can we even get our Windows Server 2008 x64 running with the latest Crystal Reports 2008 .NET merge modules? We've tried many different configurations between CR XI R2 SPs and CR 2008 for both client and server and have very little luck (either it won't install correctly because of x64 or missing .cabs, etc.) on both the client and server side of things.
Can someone suggest the optimal configuration when Windows Server 2008 x64 is in the mix, noting that we can use a secondary Windows Server 2003 (x64 preferred but can fallback to x86)? Or do we have to wait for Crystal Reports Server Embedded 2008 SP1 to be released, and if so, does anyone know of the date?

CRSE 2008 is a 32 bit app, it works on 64 bit OS's but all parts must also be running in 32 bit mode.

I wonder how to pass serialized session/usertoken to BO webservice from xcelsius. Could anyone help me how to pass the serialized session/user token to BO web service from Xcelsius?
Xcelsius is working fine when i use the username/password. But i would like to pass serialized session/usertoken from jsp file to Xcelsius as flash variable , then i will use this variable to get the data from webservice.
Is that possible to send serialized session/usertoken using soap header?

Now i would like to pass the same to biws as parameter. But the service has only 2 parameters as username and password.
Is there a way that i can create my custom parameters(CELogonToken/CESerializedSession) in BIWS service?

Retrieve data passed in session from another application in visual jsf

I'm using jboss 4.2.2, visual jsf, etbeans 6.0.1
My application needs to read the data passed in session from the calling application.
i try to get it using the below in init()

Crystal Report Server embedded 2008 SP3 - Reporitng

Hi, i have aquestion about Crystal Report Server embedded 2008 SP3.
I am currently going to start some development work to use this reporting technology, (usng C# .NET)
Ho can i do server side reporting with out haveing to use a .NET web application that uses IIS.
I want to be able to run a ,NET application from the client that tell my server whic report to process and return back an object.
Is there something where you logon or give it the credentials and returns back an object.
Also to do this will there have to be a client runtime?
I am not sure of how the technology works, so please excuse me if i asked something that does not make sense.

You should have an OEM contract so create a case in Service Market Place and a Rep will work you through how to create and use the various options etc. when using CRSE.

To pass new session variable value to stored proc before running a report.

Below is summary of the report requirement -
Database level design
1. Created a view and a global temporary table (GTT)
2. Created an Oracle package procedure to accept from and to business dates on basis of which it will fetch, process and populate the GTT.
Repository level design
1. Created a business model containing the view and the GTT (mentioned above)
2. Created two SESSION variables "from_dt" and "to_dt" to be initialized by their respective init blocks. Each of the variable is initialized with a DATE column value (of type DATETIME) from a database lookup table. I have also set the option "Enable that variable to be set by any user" for both variables.
Query for these variables :
from_dt = select from_date from <table>
to_dt = select add_months(from_date,12) from <table>
Presentation level design
1. Using a text box, i display the default/initialized values of these variables like this -
Current business date:@{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.from_dt']} Future business dt:@{biServer.variables['NQ_SESSION.to_dt']}
Dates get displayed in YYYY-MM-DD 00:00:00 format
The text msg displays these default dates and allows the user to specift different date range for which i create prompts as shown below.
2. Using any random two columns of date type from the business model, i create two date dashboard prompts with labels "From Dt" and "To Dt".
i select Calender Controls for both; setting Default To = Report Defaults.
The Set Variable is set to Presentation variables - such that pv_from_dt maps to "From Dt" and pv_to_dt maps to "To Dt".
3. i create the report using the business model created above. In the report "Advanced Tab" => "Prefix" field i specify the following -
SET VARIABLE from_dt='@{pv_from_dt}',to_dt='@{pv_to_dt}';
Note : The logic here is to display the default dates and allow user to specify different date values which will be stored in presentation variables.
If the user does specify different "from dt" and "to dt" values, then using the presentation variables, i want to "write" back these new values to the corresponding session variables mentioned above.
If the user does not specify different date range, then the default/initialized dates must be considered.
I also display the default and new date values in the report title.
Back to Repository level design
To execute the stored procedure that will load the GTT before running the report I need to pass two date parameters to the stored procedure on basis of which it will fetch data, process and populate the GTT.
In the Connection Pool --> Connection Script Tab --> Execute before query, I wrote the below query using the repository variables FROM_DT and TO_DT to execute the procedure -

v_to_dt date;
BEGIN
v_from_dt := VALUEOF(From_Dt);
v_to_dt := VALUEOF(To_Dt);

Now when i try to run the report i get the following error :
[nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 23006] The session variable, NQ_SESSION.to_dt, has no value definition. (HY000)..
Need help on this.
Is it possible to "write back" a new value to a session variable ?
Any other alternatives.

Sandeep, I found a several topics where users describe saving values in DB through stored procedure or function. For example, [How to store OBIEE presentation level variable values in DB |http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=892006] I tried it and get an error
*10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 17001] Oracle Error code: 14551, message: ORA-14551: cannot perform a DML operation inside a query ORA-06512*
It's not a BI error. This error are generated by Oracle DB. If I write next:
SELECT MyPLSQLFunction(p1,p2) FROM DUAL
I get the same error.
Oracle doesn't allow DML operations in SELECT.
Did you relalize this feature yourself? Where did I mistake?

Displaying Session Variable on Dashboard & creating presentation variable

I read a bit more on mysupport and it seems that :xdo_user_roles somehow displayes all kind of roles not the ones that the user acutally belongs to.
Now I wonder if I can use NQ_SESSION.GROUP in the BI Publisher data model.
(A)I figured that I can create a "list of values" in the data model and there I can select Oracle BI EE as a data source. maybe in the repository I can create a column that holds the nqsession_groups that I then use in the data model sql. assuming I can use a list of values in the sql.
(B) or I pass it as a parameter to the report/data modell just like a normal dropdownlist parameter (presentation variable)
Then I tried adding a text item on the dashboard with
@{biServer.variables[NQ_SESSION.USER.displayName]}
or
Session Variable My Year : @{biServer.VARIABLES['v_USER_GROUPS']} *
BUT none of them actually display any variables. :/
*this one I created in the repository and has the correct values

When I remove "authenticated-role" from the BIConsumer Role in EM and visit my dashboard again I can see that the user is ONLY in role "AuthenticatedUser" now I wonder why this is the only one, I created a custom role in EM and added the user to that one but it does not show :/

Exporting Crystal Reports with embedded Xcelsius content to PDF

I have a crystal report with an embedded xcelsius chart. I would like to schedule this report using Crystal Server 2008, sending it monthly as a PDF file attached to an email. But after exporting the report through Crystal Server, the xceslsius content is just blank. Shouldn't this be working?

What is the version of Adobe Reader? Adobe Reader 9 should be there.Also check whether you have Flash Palyer/ flash Active X control installed.
If you can view the dashboard after exporting it to PPT,it means you have Flash Player installed. You need to try with Adobe Reader 9.

Use of Session Variable in Dashboard Page XML

Can we use a Session variable in the Dashboard Page XML?
My Requirement is,
There are 1000+ users, each user will have access to same dashboard. But a different report in the same dashboard.
So we want to Save individual user reports in the location /users/LOGIN_NAME/Financials/ABC
and dynamically change the Dashboard Page XML, to accept Session Variable VALUEOF(NQ_SESSION.USER) in place of LOGIN_NAME.
So that for each user, they will see only their report.

On the face of it, Session is ideal for this, however this is SharePoint and the obvious isn't always the best.
You'd need to do the calculation about memory usage and number of concurrent users to ensure it really is a viable option in Production.
If it isn't viable, or wouldn't scale to possible future usage what would you do? Then you need to ask if it's really necessary to move between pages? If the user needs to move through a dialog for example, that could be hosted on a single page which might
have different controls or sections made visible as the user progressed through the use case.
Passing data between pages in SharePoint is a lot more difficult than it should be. Sometimes it's best to stay put, and certainly safer than using Session if you're really not sure if Session will stop your solution from scaling.
Always remember, SharePoint might be hosted on ASP.NET but the design considerations are significantly different than if this were a pure ASP.NET application.
