Passing parameters from Excel to SQL stored proc. to analyse resultset in PowerPivot

Hi,
Not sure if I posted this question at the right forum ...
I would like to implement the following scenario:
- Enter parameters @startdate and @enddate in cells in an Excel worksheet (i.e. cell A2 has the value for the startdate parameter; cell B2 has the value for the endate parameter).
- Pass these parameters to a SQL stored procedure (using MSQuery?). See below.
- Calling stored procedure in PowerPivot to get the resultset in PowerPivot.
The SP calls some functions in SQL Server. See below.
I have read several posts on several forums but I can't get the parameters from Excel (MSQuery?) to the SP.
What's the best way to have PowerPivot picking up the resultset from the SP?
How do I get the Excel cells A2 and B2 to the SP below?
SP:

Hi,
According to your description, I think you want to call a store procedure in PowerPivot with the parameters which are stored in the cells of an Excel workbook.
Are you using the PowerPivot add-in in Excel or PowerPivot in SQL Server?
This forum is to discuss problems of Office development such as VBA, VSTO, Apps for Office .etc. If you are using Excel PowerPivot, since it is an add-in for Excel and it doesn't publish API for us, we cannot automatically call a stored procedure in Excel.
We can get the data from Cells A2 and B2 with code, but it's hard to set it as the parameters of a SP when calling it from PowerPivot. About calling a SP from Excel manually, you could post in
Excel IT pro forum for more effective responses.
If you are using PowerPivot in SQL Server, I'm afraid your issue is more related to the feature of PowerPivot. We can get data from SQL Server database into Excel workbook, but I'm not sure whether we can get data from Excel cells in SQL Server. So I suggest
you posting in
SQL Server PowerPivot forum for more effective responses.

  • Can we call a Java Stored Proc from a PL/SQL stored Proc?

    Hello!
    Do you know how to call a Java Stored Proc from a PL/SQL stored Proc? is it possible? Could you give me an exemple?
    If yes, in that java stored proc, can we do a call to an EJB running in a remote iAS ?
    Thank you!

    For the java stored proc called from pl/sql, the example above that uses dynamic sql should word :
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE MyPackage AS
    TYPE Ref_Cursor_t IS REF CURSOR;
    FUNCTION get_good_ids RETURN VARCHAR2 ;
    FUNCTION get_plsql_table_A RETURN Ref_Cursor_t;
    END MyPackage;
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY MyPackage AS
    FUNCTION get_good_ids RETURN VARCHAR2
    AS LANGUAGE JAVA
    NAME 'MyServer.getGoodIds() return java.lang.String';
    FUNCTION get_plsql_table_A RETURN Ref_Cursor_t
    IS table_cursor Ref_Cursor_t;
    good_ids VARCHAR2(100);
    BEGIN
    good_ids := get_good_ids();
    OPEN table_cursor FOR 'SELECT id, name FROM TableA WHERE id IN ( ' &#0124; &#0124; good_ids &#0124; &#0124; ')';
    RETURN table_cursor;
    END;
    END MyPackage;

    public static String getGoodIds() throws SQLException {

  • Passing int[] parameter to PL/SQL stored proc via SQLJ

    This should be easy. I want to pass an array of Java integers i.e. int[] as an IN parameter to a PL/SQL stored procedure that expects a TABLE OF INTEGER.
    But SQLJ keeps giving me an error when I try to call the procedure, saying that int[] is an unsupported Java type.
    Is this true? Is it really impossible to pass a simple int array into a PL/SQL procedure via SQLJ?
    All help will be gratefully received.
    Chris

    Yes, you cannot pass int[], since index-by-tables are not supported by either JDBC or by SQLJ.
    (Well, I lied just a little bit: if you use an 8.1.7 or later JDBC-OCI driver, then there is some support for scalar index-by-tables. But not with thin, kprb drivers, or with SQLJ.)

  • Passing parameters from Java to an Oracle proc

    I am passing 3 parameters from Java method to an Oracle function.
    The Java method is called getStatic(String szparams) which invokes oracle function
    getStatic("GB1000");
    Oracle procedure
    SELECT XMLELEMENT("Underlying",
           XMLELEMENT("Code",a.code))
    FROM underlying a
    WHERE xml.extractval(a.xml,'/tables:underlying/tables:isin/text()',xml.getns('NS_TABLES'))=':arg1:' Passing 1 parameter works fine.
    2)Now I need to pass 3 parameters to the same function
    getStatic("GB1000\i\common");
    Oracle procedure
    SELECT
    XMLELEMENT(":arg2::Underlying", XMLATTRIBUTES(a.code "value", ':arg3:' as "xmlns::arg2:", 'http://www.AAA.com/common' as "xmlns:common"),
    XMLELEMENT("common:Code", a.code),
    FROM
      table a
    WHERE
      a.code = ':arg1:'Passing 3 params doesnt work.
    I tried using this way also:
    getStatic("GB1000\\i\\common"); -- still doesnt work.
    Is there a specific format where you can pass 3 parameters to the same method in Java?
    No offence meant,as this may sound silly.
    Thanks,

    Hi Nitin,
    yes, it is possible to pass parameters as URL parameters to the WDA applivcation. In WDA, for the handler method of your windows default Inplug (in standard the method is named HANDLEDEFAULT) define the parameters that you like to receive thru URL. When defining the WDA application, you can also set default parameters to avoid a dump, when parameters are not provided via URL.
    I just tried it out, it works.
    Kind regards
    Andreas

  • How to get multiple out parameters from a pl/sql stored procedure in ADF Jdeveloper 11g release2

    I´m trying to call from AppModuleImpl a stored procedure from my oracle DB which receives one input parameter and returns 5 out parameters.
    I´m using jdeveloper 11g release2  ADF and I have created a java bean "ProRecallPlatesBean " with the atributes and accesors and I serialize it. just like in this article http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24382_01/web.1112/e16182/bcadvgen.htm#sm0297
    This is my code so far:
    public ProRecallPlatesBean getCallProRecallPlates(String numPlates) {
    CallableStatement st = null;
    try {
              // 1. Define the PL/SQL block for the statement to invoke
              String stmt = "begin CTS.Pk_PreIn.proRecallPlates(?,?,?,?,?,?); end;";
              // 2. Create the CallableStatement for the PL/SQL block
              st = getDBTransaction().createCallableStatement(stmt,0);
              // 3. Register the positions and types of the OUT parameters
              st.registerOutParameter(2,Types.VARCHAR);
    st.registerOutParameter(3,Types.VARCHAR);
    st.registerOutParameter(4,Types.VARCHAR);
    st.registerOutParameter(5,Types.VARCHAR);
    st.registerOutParameter(6,Types.VARCHAR);
    // 4. Set the bind values of the IN parameters
    st.setString(1,numPlates);
    // 5. Execute the statement
    st.executeUpdate();
    // 6. Create a bean to hold the multiple return values
    ProRecallPlatesBean result = new ProRecallPlatesBean();
    // 7. Set values of properties using OUT params
    result.setSpfVal(st.getString(2));
    result.setTransportTypeVal(st.getString(3));
    result.setTransportCompanyVal(st.getString(4));
    result.setCompanyDescrVal(st.getString(5));
    result.setDGAPrint(st.getString(6));
    // 8. Return the result
    return result;
    } catch (SQLException e) {
    throw new JboException(e);
    } finally {
    if (st != null) {
    try {
    // 9. Close the JDBC CallableStatement
    st.close();
    catch (SQLException e) {}
    In Jdeveloper I went into AppModule.xml JAVA>Client Interface section and expose "getCallProRecallPlates" Then I can see "getCallProRecallPlates" in Data Controls, I drag and drop it to a JSF page, an input text component and a button are generated in order to put in there the procedure input parameter (numPlates).
    I don't know if I'm on the right track.
    When I click the button, the "result" variable is supposed to be filled with data from the stored procedure. I want each of those values to be displayed in Output text or input text adf components but I dont know how. Thank you very much in advance I´m a newbie and i'll appreciate your help!

    What version are you on?
    Works fine for me on my 11g:
    SQL> create or replace procedure testxml (clob_out out clob)
      2  is
      3     l_clob   clob;
      4     l_ctx    dbms_xmlquery.ctxhandle;
      5  begin
      6     l_ctx := dbms_xmlquery.newcontext ('select * from dual');
      7     l_clob := dbms_xmlquery.getxml (l_ctx);
      8     clob_out := l_clob;
      9     dbms_xmlquery.closecontext (l_ctx);
    10  end testxml;
    11  /
    Procedure created.
    SQL>
    SQL> variable vout clob;
    SQL>
    SQL> exec testxml (:vout)
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.
    SQL>
    SQL> print vout
    VOUT
    <?xml version = '1.0'?>
    <ROWSET>
       <ROW num="1">
          <DUMMY>X</DUMMY>
       </ROW>
    </ROWSET>But definitely you can optimize your proc a bit: Try
    create or replace procedure testxml (clob_out in out nocopy clob)
    is
       l_ctx    dbms_xmlquery.ctxhandle;
    begin
       l_ctx := dbms_xmlquery.newcontext ('select * from dual');
       clob_out := dbms_xmlquery.getxml (l_ctx);
       dbms_xmlquery.closecontext (l_ctx);
    end testxml;

  • URGENT!! Generating XML in a PL/SQL stored proc

    Hi,
    I need to generate XML from a PL/SQL stored proc.
    I need to do it in Oracle 7.3.4 as well as 8.1.6 databases.
    I need to have my own defined tags in the xml.
    Say I have the table Person like
    Person (
    id number,
    fname varchar2(40),
    lname varchar2(40)
    I need a stored proc will will select * from Person and output the data in XML form as
    <Person Names>
    <Employee>
    <First Name personid="<<value from id field>>">
    <<value from fname field>>
    </First Name>
    <Last Name>
    << value from lname field>>
    </Last Name>
    </Employee>
    </Person Names>
    I want to minimise hard coding also.
    how can I do this ? any pointers ?
    Thanks in advance, Hari

    Hi,
    We are not having a Web Agent here. So i am unable to use PLSXML utility.
    I installed XSU and is now able to create the XML, but with the table attribute names as the tags. So
    1. Is there a way I can transform this XML to another XML with custom tags ( using an XSL ) in a PL/SQL procedure ?
    2. Is there a way I can install and use PLSXML without the web agent ?
    Thanks, Hari

  • Passing parameters from java jdbc to pl/sql

    I’m calling stored procedures from java jdbc… but looking for nicer interfaces in terms of passing data. Has anyone come up with a good way to pass data from java jdbc to pl/sql without passing a million parameters? I’m thinking here of some type of structure like pl/sql rowtype or table index type or something else. Has anyone tried to create typed objects in oracle databases and access them from java?
    Thanks, Patrick Caldwell

    Hi Patrick,
    Yes, I have created an Oracle object type, which I successfully returned to a java class, from a PL/SQL stored function, using JDBC. Environment was J2SE 1.3.1, with Oracle 8.1.7.4 on SUN [sparc] Solaris 7 with Oracle's JDBC (thin) driver. It was a while ago, so I don't remember the details very clearly, but I recall being able to figure it out quite easily using the Oracle documentation and the sample code available at Oracle's Technet Web site.
    Hope this has helped you.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Save prompted sql stored proc parm values in rpt file from designer

  • How to pass a refcursor to a java stored proc

    Hi all,
    Please forgive me as I am new to Java and JDeveloper....
    I want to pass a refcursor to a java stored proc. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?
    Thanks,
    dayneo

    Hi,
    As Avi has indicated, you can map ref cursor to java.sql.ResultSet
    here are Call Specs and a code snippet from chapter 3 in my book.
    procedure rcproc(rc OUT EmpCurTyp)
    as language java
    name 'refcur.refcurproc(java.sql.ResultSet[])';
    function rcfunc return EmpCurTyp
    as language java
    name 'refcur.refcurfunc() returns java.sql.ResultSet';
    * Function returning a REF CURSOR
    public static ResultSet refcurfunc () throws SQLException
    Connection conn = null;
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:kprb:");
    ((OracleConnection)conn).setCreateStatementAsRefCursor(true);
    Statement stmt = conn.createStatement();
    ((OracleStatement)stmt).setRowPrefetch(1);
    ResultSet rset = stmt.executeQuery("select * from EMP order by empno");
    // fetch one row
    if (rset.next())
    System.out.println("Ename = " + rset.getString(2));
    return rset;

  • Automatically Pass Parameters From Crystal To SAP B1

    So, I've searched extensively, and haven't been able to find an answer to my unique issue.
    This question pertains to linking a Crystal Report by parameter values to the OWOR table in SAP B1, and automatically passing those parameter values from the active record in SAP. Several other tables are used in sql joins, but the report is generated from an OWOR production order. I should start by stating that the report works great when manually populating the parameter fields when SAP calls for them.
    Overview:
    I've written a report in Crystal that contains several sub reports, some of which are looking to the DocEntry field as the parameter (DocKey@) and others that do not look to the DocEntry field at all - but rather use another field on the form to pull up information that spans more than just that one production order. I've chosen to upload as a layout in SAP (as that is all I've worked with up to this point, and it seems it needs to be to automate from a production order); but as I continue to research, it appears DocKey@ is mandatory when uploading as a layout, and in order to view the report from the actively selected production order, it must be a layout. Does that mean the parameter is required in all sub reports? Is it required in any sub report?
    I have two main issues that I need to hurdle for this report to work how I would like it to:
    1. Three of the eight Commands (one main command and seven sub-report commands) use the DocKey@ as the parameter to pass from SAP back to Crystal. The main report command, as well as four of the sub reports/commands are looking to another field in the OWOR record - which happens to be a re-seller defined field (UDF). For all intensive purposes, let's call this field BatchID. I'm assuming the sub report commands run in succession, one after the next. The reason I need to use BatchID as the parameter to pull from the record, rather than DocEntry, is there are other records that contain the same BatchID, and I want all of the info pertaining to that BatchID to populate on the report.
    Q1: The first command containing DocKey@ is automatically populated by SAP, and the user does not have to key that one in. However, the next two DocKey@ parameters do not automatically populate, and the user is asked for those values. How can I fix this?
    Q2: How can I automate the passing of BatchID so the user does not have to fill it in 5 times when they wish to preview the report(layout)? Can I link ObjectID@ to any field in OWOR? Is there any other way like creating a stored procedure or something , to automate the passing of that variable from the SAP active record to the crystal report - so the user doesn't have to key it in several times just to pull up the report?
    Thank you so much for even reading, let alone helping me with this issue!!
    Cheers,
    Nick

  • Passing parameters between portlets (PL/SQL PDK)

    I'm new to the PDK, so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I need to develop a portal page containing a single search portlet, and then many other associated portlets which bring back various bits of data based on the result of the search.
    Is it possible to drive the content of other portlets on the same page by passing values from one to another and refreshing the whole page?
    null

    Neil,
    You can definitely pass parameters from one portlet to another in PL/SQL and we actually have a sample that you can take a look at. In the PDK, download the Parameter passing and CSS Example Provider sample. http://technet.oracle.com/products/iportal/files/pdkjan/index.html
    Click on PL/SQL
    One of the portlets demonstrates how to pass parameters to one portlet or all portlets on a page.
    Hope this helps,

  • BPEL process to Insert XML into DB using pl/sql stored proc

    Hi,
    We have created a BPEL process in which we are taking input request and store it into Oracle Database using PL/SQL proc.
    We have been unsuccessful in doing so because the data stored in table has root element missing.
    Has any body done this (insert xml into DB using pl/sql stored proc) successfully ?
    We can so this successfully if we do not use stored procedure and store data directly in table.
    Regards

    I have done this, stored it as a CLOB.
    Also I received the payload as an opaque schema, so I had to convert the message from binary into string.
    This way the root element doesn't get removed.
    cheers

  • Item Type Based on PL/SQL stored proc causing errors

    I am getting the following error when I add this item type based on a pl/sql stored proc that generates html based on the stored proc... the stored proc returns find but the other porlets get Error Message in there headers and in the porlet content I get:
    Error: The listener returned the following Message: 503 Service Unavailable....
    I also get the same error if I click on a link that is generated from my stored proc for the entire page I get the error:
    Error: The listener returned the following Message: 503 Service Unavailable
    and get nothing else returned...

    Greetings
    I suggest you take a look at the following page and have a look on how to create portlets. Since the PL/SQL PDK allows you to create your own portlets inside the Oracle Database there should be no problem for creating the content inside a portlet the way you want it.

  • Passing parameters from shell script to OWB process flow

    Hi all,

    How do i catch those values in process flow and pass those to mappings in Process flow?
    Do i need to create PF variables with same names or any name will do?
    Thanks in advance

    This document is explaining how to pass data between activities in process flow.
    I am passing parameters from a shell script.
    Any ideas,how to pass parameters from shell script and then initialize the process flow variables based on those values and then pass them further to mappings.

  • Cf caching ms sql stored procs,

    I'm having trouble with Cf caching ms sql stored procs,
    eg in this one:
      <cfstoredproc  procedure="getUser"   datasource="#datasource#" returncode="true">
          <cfprocparam type="in"  cfsqltype="CF_SQL_VARCHAR" value="#results.SAMAccountName[1]#">
          <cfprocresult name="sp">
        </cfstoredproc>
    I get the same 4 columns returned no matter what the actual sp is in the server.
    any ideas?

    Sorry, I'm not suggesting any corelation between a <cfquery> with a SELECT * in it and suggesting your proc had SELECT * in it.  Just perhaps that whatever mechanism in CF or the JDBC drivers that caches the expected columns from a SELECT * query might also cache them from a PROC call.  There's a loose parallel in that neither actually specify the expected column names, that's all I meant.
    Can you do me a favour? Can you do something like <cfquery datasource="yourDsn">THIS AIN'T VALID SQL</cfquery> and then re-run your proc.  Does that sort it out?  I seem to recall - and now I feel like I'm wasting your time a bit, because I'm really unsure of this - that if one caused an error over the JDBC connection, it cleared itself out and subsequent queries worked fine.  It might work the same for procs.  I'm not suggesting this as a solution: just more info gathering.  This is presupposing it is kinda related to the SELECT * issue.
    I'll try to do some experimentation when I get home tonight, but I've got some docs to write and stuff so not sure whether I'll get to it.
    Adam
