Paste in position

I have a problem in applescripting. I open a document, select all, copy, doubling the canvas size to the right and then I want to paste the clipboard contents. The problem is the document increases size and I need to zoom out so when I paste the clipboard the item falls directly in the center of the image. Only then I can translate the selection to the correct position. So my question is a way to paste in a given position or be able to zoom out so the resized canvas fits in the total photoshop window. Any help on this would be great!
David

OK, I see what you are doing here… I think that this should do it for you. You will need to set the app version in the sub too…
tell application "Adobe Photoshop CS2"
activate
set ruler units of settings to pixel units
set background color to {class:RGB color, red:255, green:255, blue:255}
tell current document
set docW to width
set the current channels to every channel
select all
copy
resize canvas anchor position middle left width docW * 2
my FitWindow()
paste
translate selection delta x docW / 2
deselect
end tell
end tell
on FitWindow()
tell application "System Events"
tell process "Adobe Photoshop CS2"
keystroke "0" using command down
end tell
end tell
end FitWindow

  • Cut & Paste - different position relative to ruler - why ?

    CS5 is not honouring the relative position when cutting from one document then pasting to another.   In CS4 I would drag the ruler to a common element of both documents, then cut from one and paste in front in the other document.   This is no longer the case with CS5, it appears to be Art Board bound some how, and I dont want that becuase I can never be 100% assured the custom art boards are of the same size .... what happened Adobe , life used to be simple ?  Is there a software switch somewhere to have cut & paste adhere to relative ruler position ?

    Yeah I posted about this issue yesterday, glad to see others have been complaining about it. It's a huge issue, a dealbreaker as far as using CS5 or not. From the posts about labels and shrink wrap kinda sounds like there's some other folks in the thread doing flexographic work. I don't know if there's something about flexography that makes us desperately need to retain this feature, but so it is (I suppose since flexography uses so many different slightly different document sizes on a regular basis, compared to commercial which may only  use 4 or 5 radically different document sizes on a regular basis, it might affect us more).
    I put a call into Adobe about it yesterday. First level phone support said that on their end paste was working the way I wanted it. (He screen shared with my computer, I showed him the issue and he was mystified by it saying his CS5 was merrily pasting according to the ruler origin.) This makes it seem like, in contrary to Mr. Zimmerman, that this can be changed in a setting somehow. Note that support also called over their supervisor and they were both surprised to see me unable to paste in place (front/back) relative to the ruler, only relative to the document. He escalated the issue to second level support and said I should get a call back sometime late this week, we shall see. Obviously I can only trust 1st level support so much. I didn't screen share to him (only him to me) so for all I know (despite his assurances) he was accidentally working in CS4 or CS3.
    The weird thing to me about the whole issue is the change doesn't actually give anyone anything they didn't have before. Mr. Zimmerman seems to be saying that everyone and their brother was asking to be able to always paste according to the corner of the document, but in old versions that functionality was already present. If you wanted to paste according to the corner of the document you just double clicked in the top left corner (between your x and y rulers) to reset the rulers to the corner. Okay maybe people didn't want to reset their rulers after they paste, but it's a whole lot easier to reset a ruler than it is to be forced to paste things around a document without a ruler's help. I also understand that by adding in artboards (not a useful feature for me, but definitely a useful feature for most designers....old Freehand users will undoubtedly be leaping for joy) paste according to rulers becomes more problematic and they probably wanted to streamline things by default...but I still have a hard time imagining that Adobe would so screw over their customer base by totalling removing this functionality that has been so basic to Illustrator for so long by removing it entirely.
    I definitely second (sixth, seventh) the requests to add a paste according to ruler option  if my 1st level support guy was incorrect in his assessment that the functionality could still be turned on in CS5. I will post hopefully later this week with an update on my experience with 2nd level support.

  • Copy and paste object position

    Hello
    I am fairly new to Keynote from Powerpoint.
    I had a tool in powerpoint which enable me to "copy" an object's size and position then "paste" that size and position to an object on another slide (it was a macro - not part of Powerpoint itself). Specifically I have many slides with text boxes and I want the text boxes to be the same size and position on every slide. They are already in the slides (got brought over from PowerPoint) but font and other things have slightly messed everything up so now I want to sort it out again.
    Is there anyway I can do this? I know copy style but that doesn't seem to do it but maybe I am missing something. I know the object has position tags and though maybe they could be used in some way.
    Many thanks for your help
    Deb

    One way to rectify things would be to copy the X position from the Metrics Inspector of a text box in correct location, then paste that into the X position field in the Metrics Inspector of the text boxes to be adjusted, and then do the same for the Y position.
    However, a faster approach might be simply to create a blank text box on one of the slides, position it where you want, then copy and paste that box on all the other slides -- when pasted, it will be in the same position as on the original slide. You can then cut and paste the text from the old text boxes to the new one.

  • Copy Mask Path, Paste to Position not working correctly PLEASE HELP!

    please help I'm really at the end of my tether with this
    When I create or place an object on my AF comp and then draw a mask. I try to paste that path into the position properties the path will be 'offset' and the object will not go to the start of the mask..it moves the mask then starts moving the object. this happens in AF CC, CS6 and CS5. I follow the tutorials to the letter and it off sets the object every time. What am I doing wrong?? I know its something really simple but i cant figure it out
    Please help!

    I just worked a complete thread on this subject. A quick search of the site with mask path in the query would bring up this thread.
    To simplify the explanation you layer must be at 100% scale and at the default position in the composition for this to work. It's as simple as that. If your layer's anchor point of position properties are not at the default position this will not work.
    Please check out the thread. There are multiple screen shots and explanations.

  • Pasting the position points of a mask path to a write-on brush position

    Hi there,
    So after effects is doing something VERY strange - I create a pen path by tracing a electrical signature in after effects (see pink path in the attached screen shot) , then I click 'm' short cut to bring up the mask path. I make sure the mask path is selected, then I copy it. I add the Write-on effect, and into the brush position, I paste the mask path points. I've done this exactly this way in the past but either I've lost my marbles or some weird preference is set to make the pasted path points both smaller and nowhere near the same position as what I have taken so much time to trace! Why??? How can it paste smaller and somewhere else? (green dots are going to be the brush points of the write on effect) Please help - I can't figure out what's the problem here - tried for the last 6 hours :O
    I need to reveal the original image with the write on effect I don't understand why it's not working this one time.
    Thanks SO SO MUCH!

    I assume  this comp will be used as a nested comp, inside a comp of other dimensions.
    Make sure that this comp's dimensions and pixel aspect ratio match those of the layer.  The Write-On effect should then work properly.
    If you wish to use the Write-On effect on another layer -- a solid, perhaps -- make sure to use the comp size for the solid.

  • Psc2110xi won't stop trying to return scanner bar past start position.

    When I turn on my psc2110xi and it tries to self-test, the scanner bar will not stop at its normal resting point.  It keeps trying to continue past the stop on the right end of the return.   I turn it off, wait a few minutes, try again with the same results.  This machine has worked flawlessly since the day I bought it new.  Is there a stop that needs to be checked or could the belt have slid out of position?  I removed the top of the machine using the hp directions for cleaning the inside of the glass to gain access to try to troubleshoot the problem.  Thanks for reading!!

    Hello,  It seems to be a scanner module failure which cannot be repaired.Iam afraid, its time to replace the printer. If you are in USA, you might be provided with Trade in Option if you call HP Tech Support. Please call HP Tech Support for further assistance.

  • Select All Past Current Position Hotkeys?

    Some times I need to move large selections of audio and video. Rather than zoom out and select it all, is there a key combination that will select everything to the right of my current position?
    I looked in the Adobe help for hotkeys but didn't see this.
    Thanks

    That's what I've been doing. But when I have a lot of layers and a long video it's not as easy as I would like. It would be nice to have a key combo to just grab everything, if it exists.

  • Problem with pasting a smart object in Photoshop

    I create artworks using both Illustrator and Photoshop by pasting different elements as smart objects in Photoshop on different layers  but I often have a problem.
    To make the pasted content  positioned exactly on the same place as in Illustrator, I create a box with no fill and stroke encompassing the whole artwork (with the thick pink frame on the image below) and paste different elements along with the encompassing box on different layers in Photoshop.
    The problem is that often during the creation of the artwork it may require using a clipping path containing objects bigger than the encompassing box. Then when pasting in Photoshop the size of the bounding box containing the invisible parts of the objects is factored in instead of the visible parts only.
    The image bolow is a simplified example. On the left side  is the selection in Illustrator but when pasted in Photoshop although it keeps the same visibility as on the left size, the encompassing frame is the bounding box shown on the right side and this messes up the position of the placed objects. I know the problem can be avoided if I know in advance how big the eventual artwork including the invisible objects would be and create an encompassing box big enough but often this is not the case. What do yo think would be the easiest way to fix this problem once it occurs?

    Just so you are aware, photoshop has a bug when sensing illustrator files.
    If your starting with a new document and letting photoshop sense the size from the clipboard, set the physical size to inches or centimeters before changing the ppi from 72 to 300. By default, photoshop is set to pixel dimentions and ppi is disabled even though you can type in a new value, it does not alter the size any.

  • Script won't work on newer Mac

    Last year, I wrote an Illustrator script (that pastes something into multiple files) for my coworker who works remotely. It worked fine.
    Recently, she upgraded her Mac to OS 10.8.5 (but still uses Illustator CS5) and now the script does nothing-- the dialog boxes come up, but instead of pasting the contents and saving the new document it dies. Since she is not in my office, fixing this problem seems challenging.
    I'd like to make sure I am not missing anything big and easy, like OS 10.8 having broke something in the script. Though that seems unlikely to me, is it possible that her Mac is the problem? Any thoughts?
    Here's the script:
    /* HOW TO USESETUP: Have PDFs in one folder. Create a directory in that same folder called "saveloc"IN ILLUSTRATOR:
    1. Have the document open with the object you want pasted into each file selected
    2. GROUP selection

    4. Run the script: File->Scripts->Other scripts (choose this script from selection window

    // if there is a selection made...

         // all the files in the chosen folder will be stored in "files" array
         files = new Array;
         // looking only for PDFs in chosen folder
         fileType = "*.pdf";
         // fill array with PDFs
         files = fold.getFiles( fileType );
         // loop through all the chosen PDFs (that populate "files")

              saveOpts = new PDFSaveOptions();
              saveOpts.compatibility = PDFCompatibility.ACROBAT6;
              saveOpts.generateThumbnails = true;
              saveOpts.preserveEditability = false; // "false" keeps file size low
              // save it!
              app.activeDocument.saveAs( saveName, saveOpts );
              // close active doc
              app.activeDocument.close();
    // ...if no selection is made, send up prompt
    } else {
         alert( "Select an object in this file, and then COPY it" );

    W_J_T's link had the answers. Here's how I got the script to work in Mac 10.7:
    I changed this line:
    var fold = Folder.selectDialog( "Choose the folder CONTAINING the files you wish to modify", "~" );
    to these 2 lines:
    var fold = Folder.selectDialog("Choose the folder CONTAINING the files you wish to modify");
    fold = new Folder( fold.fsName.replace("folder://", "") );

  • How to add a link to your message

    Does anyone know how to add a link to a message?

    laptopman,
    As Klaus1 posted, you can also use the Character Palette.
    In the Palette, select View : Glyph > Glyph Catalog. You will find the , among others, there.
    You can copy & paste, or position the cursor where you want the glyph in a document, highlight the glyph, and click on Insert with Font.
    If the Character Palette is not in your Menubar, open System Preferences > International > Input Menu: Checkmark Show input menu in menubar.
    To open the Palette, click on the Flag icon in the Menubar, and select Show Character Palette.

  • Moving folders?

    I'm sure this must be described somewhere, but I can't find it.
    I want to move a subfolder from one folder to another using drag and drop within Lightroom. Can't figure it out. The only way I can do it is to use Windows Explorer to move the folder, then click on the (now red) folder in Lightroom and then locate the folder at its new location. Must be a simpler way.

    You drag the Temp folder out past the position of the 2008 folder in the hierarchy and then you should be able to drop it at the same level. Is the 2008 folder at the top level? Adding a level above that like 'My Pictures', if that it what it is directly under, will mean you can move Temp more easily to the same level as 2008, as well. Should work either way.
    For the first way yoy have to drag Temp out of the FOlder space (with out dropping and tehn drop at same level as 2008.

  • Deleting Items And Moving Items Automaticly

    This is probably a rookie question, but I am new to ID. What is the best way to setup an ID document where if I delete a text box and photo in one row, that the rest of the rows on the pages after move up automatically and line up like I had the deleted row? Or does this have to be done manually?
    Reason I am asking is I have a document which is a directory of employees with a description on the left hand side, photos on the right hand side, and I have to remove employees who have left the company. These documents are pages and I would hate to have to manually move everything after that deleted employee.

    If it turns out that nothing is threaded and the images are not anchored, and you don't have some sort of database from which to rebuild, my personal plan of attack would be to make a copy of the file, then cut the first image frame and paste it into the start of the first line of text in the listing.
    Select the anchored frame and go to Object > Anchored Object > Options... and change the type to "custom" and make the x-coordinate relative to the page or margin and the y-coordinate realtive to the Line. Drag the image frame back to its correct postion in the right column.You may have to revisit the options dialog to get the y-offset where it needs to be. Make a note of the settings.
    With it still selected, open the Object Styles panel and check to see if a style is assigned. Most likely, it will have [No Style] because that's the default for any object drawn with a frame tool. If that's true, create a new Object Style which should include the posioning information for anchored objects, as well as any fitting options you need. If there's already a named style assigned, edit the style to include the anchored object settings. Apply the style to the selected frame.
    If the frames you checked above had [No Style] assigned, and you are using a version of ID that has Find/Change for objects, you can search for objects with [No Style] and change to the object style you created. If there was already a style, this step is unnecessary. The good news here is that even though you are adding anchored object positioning information to potentially every image inthe document (even those that have nothing to do with the listings), unless the object is actually anchored those settings will have no effect whatever. The bad news is exactly the same thing -- you won't see any changes to the employee images until you go through the file and manually cut them and paste into position inthe first line of the listing (and when you paste there they should appear back where they belong). Move the empty frames too, just in case a image is added later and to be sure the empty frame is deleted along with the corresponding name when that gets removed.
    Hard part is now done. Next step is to go to Rorohiko,com and get their TextStitch script (http://www.rorohiko.com/wordpress/indesign-downloads/textstitch/). Run the script, delete all but the first two pages of listings, and then delete all but the first lisiting frame on the first page. Resize the frame to fill the page, then pick up the overset and hold Shift as you click at the top of the next page to autoflow the rest of the listings back into the file.

  • File Crashing on Output - printing/PDF/other

    Firstly - with any file that is repeatedly crashing make a backup of it Immediately!
    Option 1
    Try to remove corruption using the Export/Save to IDML link to how to here
    Option 2
    Determine how many pages in your document
    Export or Print your document in halves, i.e., if it's 200 pages then export or print page 1-100 then page 101-200
    Keep halving the document pages until you find the problem pages, i.e., 1-100 crashes then try 1-50 and 51-100, then 1-25 and 26-50 etc. until you've found the page(s) that are crashing
    When you've narrowed it down to a single page or multiple pages try to find out what is causing it to crash you can do this by:
    Move half the items on the page to the Pasteboard (do not delete them) and try to export again, if it crashes then move more items to the pasteboard and so on until you find the culprit(s)
    Recreate the object(s), i.e., if a particular image is causing it to crash, then don't duplicate that frame. You should use File>Place and replace the image within the layout in a new graphic frame.
    Images
    If the file still crashes then you should resave the image as a complete new file name and different file extension, if it's PSD then save as TIFF or vice versa.
    (Note some special file formats like DCS or EPS and PDF should not be opened in Photoshop if they contain vector elements - if you don't know if they do or do not please do not open them in Photoshop)
    Text Frames
    Copy that text and Place it in a text editor like Notepad or TextEdit to strip all the formatting.
    Create a new Text Frame and reimport the text by using File>Import or using Copy and Paste
    Restyle the text to your liking
    Any suggestions, edits or other workflows for files that won't output via print or other method, or will not export using File>Export are thoroughly welcome.

    Thanks for posting this Eugene.
    An additional comment about "fixing" problem text:
    I often have very good luck replacing text that is causing file crashes using InDesign Tagged Text, which will preserve the formatting. To export tagged text you must have some sort of active text cursor, either a selection, or just a flashing cursor in the story. With an active cursor InDesign Tagged Text will become an option in the "type" dropdown when you select File > Export...
    If you have selected some text, only the selection will be exported. A flashing cursor with no text selected will export the entire story, even if it is threaded across many pages. You will have two options after choosing tagged text and pressing OK in the dialog, abbreviated or verbose, and it doesn't seem to matter which you choose, other than a small  difference in the size of the text file that is saved. To use the tagged text file you place it, in the same way you would place a Word file or other text file, but ID will interpret the internal tagging and bring it in formatted.
    I will often replace an entire story this way, but on occasion I've also found it works well to export either the entire story, or just a selection of a section I've identified as a problem, then place the tagged text file on the pasteboard. From there I will copy the text I need and paste into position replacing a problem paragraph or two. This seems to give an added layer of cleanup without losing the formatting.
    I actually developed this technique a few years ago working on a file that was causing problems for Eugene, but I'm not sure he remembers.

  • IT1018 - Message no. RP718 "A segment could not be derived"

    History: We have the requirement that the Employer's portion of selected payroll taxes be expensed according to the account assignment of the secondary postion or the supplemental pay instead of the assignment of the primary position.  Our consultant determined that posting payroll to accounting using the option "Distribution of Liabilities According to Expenses" was the solution.  Note: New GL was part of our original implementation of FI.
    Problem:  Having implemented this option, when we update infotypes 0001 and 1018 on a position we get a warning message "A segment could not be derived" (Message RP718).  We don't use the "Segment" field as we are a single-purpose government and FAS131 does not apply.  Furthermore, Segments appear to be derived from Profit Centers which is also something we don't use.
    Question:  How do we turn off this warning or otherwise disable the Segment field?
    Thanks.

    The reason for error message PB096 ("Change too far in past for position  holder") is the following:
    you are trying to change a costcenter assignment with a begin date of 07/02/2001. This date is lower than the personal Earliest retractive accounting date of infotype 0003 (-> stored in field PRDAT 06/23/2008).
    If you want to change the costcenter assignment you need to choose a suitable period (BEGDA>PRDAT) to do the change. Then it should be possible to change the costcenter assignment without any error or warning message.
