Patch "124923-03 SunOS 5.10_x86: ld.so.1 patch" broken ???

Hello,
last Saturday I updated one of our development systems with the latest patches. Since than we had severe problems on the machine with core dumping binaries:
- jdk1.6.0 (jdk1.5.0 ok)
- Ice (Internet communication engine)
- icu (international components for unicode)
- boost
The reasons seems to be, that the stack unwinding / exception handling is broken.
After deinstalling the patch "124923-03 SunOS 5.10_x86: ld.so.1 patch", everything worked again.
Details can be found here:
http://www.zeroc.com/forums/bug-reports/3214-src-iceutil-ctrlchandler-cpp-broken-solaris-10-x86_64-latest-patches.html
http://www.zeroc.com/forums/bug-reports/3224-more-things-broken-solaris-10-x86_64-latest-patches.html
Where should I post this information?
Has anyone else seen such problems?
Best regards,
Markus

If you want to install this patch you need to install packages
SUNWsam SUNWsamr SUNWcacaort SUNWscn*
Their installed by default on so10 6/6 machines but not on earlier.
Iver been installing them just so the patch will install and smpatch analyze looks cleaner.
They don't seem to do any harm :-).

  • How to manually install the Solaris Patch SunOS 5.10_x86: Kernel Patch ?

    Same as subject.

    download the patch from sunsolve.
    unzip it
    patchadd <patchnumber>
    reboot immediately.
The recommended procedure is to do it with the machine in single user mode.
But usually making the machine as quiescent as possible eg killing of daemons and runnin g jobs is sufficient.

What is this Sun Network Connection stuff coming with solaris 06/06 ?

  • Deferred patching broken for machines with zones

For a while I've noticed that Ive had trouble patching a couple of machines.
I've managed to determine the significant characteristic identifying them.
All the machines with a non global zone have the problem.
To confirm, I added a test zone to a machine that was fine. And it immediately it developed the problem.
Anyway, the symptom is that no deferred patches will install.
So patches delayed by a "smpatch update" till the reboot fail to install.
The sunucLog displays the following error

Anyone got any workarounds for this problem.
    Is it a known issue.
Or should I log a support request.

Any progress on this? Its been 2 months. And sun has managed to put out an entire new update to Solaris.
And a 119254-59 has been released. But neither includes a fix for this issue as far as I can tell...
Its now basically impossible to patch machines with zones up to the latest kernel 137137-09 since that has a dependency on 119254-58.
And machines with zones can't be patched if a version higher than 119254-53 is installed....

  • Extension to Patch broken menu options

When ever I give up looking for an option, and decide to try
a Get More option I always get the same Generic Adobe Exchange
page. This page is nondescript showing options for many products
that Might be what I'm looking for. This is about as useful as
typing in the wrong web address and getting an unknown search
engine that tries to Find what it thinks you were looking for.
At this point I consider the Get More Options to be dead, a
Victim of Adobe/Macromedia website mergers. The result being that
instead of providing relevant installations for specific options
within DreamWeaver, Im instead forwarded to that backwater search
engine that doesn't really know what I'm looking for, that Mundane
    little place called Exchange.
Please say there is a Patch, or an Extension to fix this and
make these options useful again! Very least a way of making them
    all Disappear from the menus.

    I fixed it.
Just in case anyone else has this issue, the problem (I think) was this: I had a "Movie" button on the sub-menu page in question that had only a " " as the title text.
(This was by design. The "movie" was intended to be a hidden "Easter Egg" that viewers could play only if they knew how to navigate to the button.)
I fixed the problem by adding actual text to the button's title text. (I managed to make that title text disappear by changing the opacity, thereby making it invisible.)
    Hope that helps someone.

  • Patching broken in Live Upgrade from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10

I'm using Live Upgrade to upgrade a Solaris 9 system to Solaris 10. I installed the
LU packages from Solaris 10 11/06 plus the latest Live Upgrade patches. Everything
went fine until I attempted to use `luupgrade -t' to apply Recommended and Security patches to the

  • Fresh install and update patch problems 119060-17 , 122213-10 , 122912-02

Just yesterday, i installed a fresh Solaris 10 x86 onto some pc hardware. After getting solaris installed and issues with my network card, i downloaded and installed the free version of the update manager 1.0.x. Next, i proceeded to update all the general patches for the solaris 10 system. I started with the command 'pprosvc -i' from a terminal. It then proceeded to download and validate a bunch of patches successfully until it hit the following 3 patches:
    119060-17 ---- X11 6.6.2_x86: Xsun patch
    122213-10 ---- GNOME 2.6.0_x86: GNOME Desktop Patch
    122912-02 ---- SunOS 5.10_x86: Apache 1.3 Patch
All 3 failed some kind of validation and then crashed the pprosvc program, at which point it exited with the following error:
    122912-02 cannot be validated
    119060-17 cannot be validated
    122912-02 cannot be validated
Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digital signature(s).
I also tried to use the GUI Update Manager to update, hoping the problem was isolated to pprosvc, but that problem was also in the GUI with a similar error message:
Error occurred...The detailed error message is: Unexpected Failure: java.lang.Throwable: ERROR: Failed to validate the digitial signature(s)
Anyone know why Sun's update patch process is so troublesome?
    Getting Tired of Solaris Updates...
I should mention that this is the free solaris 10 x86 install and i don't have a service contract with Sun. If this problem persists, i don't think i'll get one, as i see only further problems after buying one.
    tired and confused

    Hi,
    There is an issue with this that is currently being investigated. There is another thread that may shed some light on what is happening here;
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/forum.jspa?forumID=316
Thread title is : Sun UC, Digitally Signed Patches Using New Verisign Certificates
In the short-term please ensure that the patch mentioned in it is installed.
To quote part of mentioned thread above:
"Once the Sun Update Connection client software is upgraded with patch 121118-06 (SPARC) or 121119-06 (x86/x64) or later revisions normal behavior will resume. "
    If this fails to resolve your problem, would you be kind enough to post the output of the following command for analysis please;
    # showrev -p | egrep -e '121454|121119|120336|121082|121564|122232|119789'

    Moderator.

  • Patch Manager lists patches i already installed... help!

Update Manager is still showing 173 patches which i already installed on May 20th.
The "Installed Patches" section is showing 0 patches.
I am Running Solaris 10 on x86 Dual Xeon

Try moving the files in /export/home/var/sadm/patch and /export/home/var/sadm/patch back to their correct locations.
You might then find that updatemanager works as expected again. Did you ever stop to think what those directories were used for?

  • Solaris x86 10 u1 (01/06) Update manager showing obsolete patches

I installed 10 u1 (01/06) the other day. I ran the Update Manager and I think there were 8 patches, so I attempted to install them.
Only one of them successfully installed (118966-12), six of them show up in /var/sadm/spool/disallwed_patch_list_report:
    STATUS INSTALL BEGIN 119076-10
    Transition old-style patching.
    STATUS INSTALL END 119076-10 INSTALL.6
    STATUS INSTALL BEGIN 119833-02
    Transition old-style patching.
    STATUS INSTALL END 119833-02 INSTALL.6
    STATUS INSTALL BEGIN 120470-02
    Transition old-style patching.
    STATUS INSTALL END 120470-02 INSTALL.6
    STATUS INSTALL BEGIN 120082-07
    Transition old-style patching.
    STATUS INSTALL END 120082-07 INSTALL.6
    STATUS INSTALL BEGIN 120666-01
    Transition old-style patching.
    STATUS INSTALL END 120666-01 INSTALL.6
    STATUS INSTALL BEGIN 119684-02
    Transition old-style patching.
    STATUS INSTALL END 119684-02 INSTALL.6
And the last one (120041-02) failed.
Anyway, I was grep'ing patchadd -p for some of these and it looks like the ones I checked have been obsoleted by other patches (I didn't check them all, maybe 3).
So, why do they still show up in Update Manager? Or am I missing something (very possible, I'm not a sysadmin, I use this machine for development).

    The same problem:

    AND:
there is recorded only 118844-20 and NOT 118844-26 in the "central update" database, therefore obsolete patch path is not resolved correctly (look at 8 field).
    SOLUTION:
    We must wait :-)

  • Solaris 10 patches for Oracle Database 11gR2

    Hi,
I downloaded Oracle Solaris 10 s/w from e-Delivery and got it installed. For Oracle Database 11gR2 I also need the followging patches:
    120754-06: SunOS 5.10_x86 libmtsk
    119961-05: SunOS 5.10_x86: Assembler
119964-14: SunOS 5.10_x86 Shared library patch for C++_x86
Though we have access to MyOracleSupport we can only download s/w patches using our support contract with Oracle and not OS patches.
Is there any other way I can get these patches.
    Rgds,
    Thiru.

    Thiru,
You won't find the patches in the patches/ directory on the DVD or the ISO image. Oracle integrates the patches directly into the packages, so there is no need to provide or install them separately.
All patches have a patch number (e.g. 120754) and a revision (e.g. 06). A newer revision of a patch always contains all fixes of the previous revisions. So try to run "showrev -p | grep 120754" instead, and you'll see that patch 120754-08 is pre-installed. As revision 08 is newer/higher than 06, the patch requirement is satisfied.
    Hope that helps,
    mp.

  • Fresh solaris 10 x86 install patch update problems 119060-17 ...

    Hi,
    There is an issue with this that is currently being investigated. There is another thread that may shed some light on what is happening here;
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/forum.jspa?forumID=316
Thread title is : Sun UC, Digitally Signed Patches Using New Verisign Certificates
In the short-term please ensure that the patch mentioned in it is installed.
To quote part of mentioned thread above:
"Once the Sun Update Connection client software is upgraded with patch 121118-06 (SPARC) or 121119-06 (x86/x64) or later revisions normal behavior will resume. "
    If this fails to resolve your problem, would you be kind enough to post the output of the following command for analysis please;
    # showrev -p | egrep -e '121454|121119|120336|121082|121564|122232|119789'
    Sincerely,
    Moderator.

Patch 124939-03 (SunOS 5.10_x86: JDMK 5.1 patch) was recommended today by Sun Update Manager on my Solaris 10 u3 SPARC machine. Is this normal? Doesn't look like it. Should I try to install it?

As Ethan says, this is a multi-platform patch. That's kind of unusual, and the patch markings are a bit unclear; I can understand why you were confused. If you look carefully at the README you can see that it says that it is for all architectures.
However, that's not the only interesting thing about this patch.
You might wonder why a patch originally released in March 2007 is only now being recommended by smpatch/Update Manager.
The answer is that it was not being properly handled before this point, and the new analysis techniques introduced by the recently announced maintenance are for the first time handling it properly. Not that our old analysis techniques were awful, but they were not as accurate as we'd like; we believe that the new techniques will yield better results (like this one), with faster execution, with less work and opportunity for error on our side. It should be a win all around.

  • Unable to download patches from analyze result

This morning I tried to download a list of patches returned by smpatch analyze but most of them errored out with the error patch not found. Is there a problem with the patch database server?

i believe this is a side effect of patch 119108-03 look at the patch details. i'm not sure myself how to resolve this issue. and i've got the problem now on 2 Sun v40z and a W2100z. here's the relevant information hopefully someone is watching this list!

  • How to remove a patch via smpatch in fail safe mode

    After installing patch
    139556-08 SunOS 5.10_x86: Kernel Patch
my system can not restart. Even after uopdating my boot archive the "normal" boot process fails every time and the system keeps restarting.
I would like to remove the patch in fail safe mode, but I do not know how to do it, when my system is mounted under /a.
Any advice, or alternative of how to get my system back online, would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your help

I had the exact same problem with the same patch. I brought up the box in failsafe mode, mounted the zfs filesystem where my patches were located, cd'd to the patch directory, then re-applied the patch using:
patchadd -R /a 139556-08I didn't bother to do a patchrm first. After I re-ran the patch, I also did a force update of the boot archive,
    bootadm update-archive -R /aFollowed by
shutdown -i 6 -y -g 0And everything was good. Seems there are a number of folks having trouble with this kernel patch.
