Path Eraser Tool use?

Hello,
I have two shapes placed next to each other but the top section displays is a faint line to the left. How do I use the Path Eraser Tool to delete/remove that piece? Or is there a better way to remove?
Note:
Top image displays without path displayed...
Bottom section displays with path displayed...
Thx!
RF

Do these two objects need to remain separate from each other? Since it looks like you were trying to line up the paths anyway, this problem can be very easily solved by merging the two objects.
You can combine the two objects by selecting both shapes and clicking on the "Unite" option in the Pathfinder panel (if you don't see the panel, go to Window > Pathfinder).
After that, you should have one shape, instead of two separate ones. You can then select the left-most anchor point using the Direct Selection tool and delete it. You should see the white area disappear.
Finally, select the two open points with the lasso tool, and join them by going to Object > Path > Join (or "control J"). You can adjust the points with the Direct selection tool to make sure the curve is nice and smooth.

  • How to make a custom eraser tool using flash?

I did make a eraser tool. But once I begin to erase a layer, the background layer is visible. I want the layer just below the topmost layer to be visible.
    For eg consider 2 layers.
    Layer2 is above Layer1.
When I perform erase on Layer2, I see the stage background.
I want to actually see Layer1 when I erase from Layer2.
Here is the code I used:

  • Eraser Tool erases too much

Not new to Illustrator, but not super proficient either. I've begun to use Illustrator to create technical drawings for patent illustrations.
When creating contour lines, it'd be great to use the Eraser Tool to make them, but Illustrator's Eraser Tool is heavy-handed. The screengrabs illustrate my point.
The first image are my contour lines
The second image is the Eraser Tool erasing... what I'd like to have when it's finished is exactly what is shown in the second image.
The third image shows the the tool erases too much.
I've looked around for answers. I've tried expanding the stroked lines as well as using the Path Eraser Tool. Nothing works.
    Any ideas?

I see what you mean the eraser is not precise, acts like there is a fidelity update after you draw.
You may want to instead draw a shape with the blob tool,
The use transparency >> make opacity mask >> and these settings, uncheck clip and invert mask if you blob stroke is black..
If you double click on the blob tool you can take the fidelity down to .5px, which should stay true enough to the path you draw.

  • Why does the eraser tool leave a stoke behind?

I tried expanded the appearance of the object I am trying to erase and my stoke is set to none and I have checked the settings and there is nothing there in terms of stroke. Here is a screenshot of what happens when I try to erase anything.
Please help I don't remember having this problem in the past but I am lost and I really need your help as soon as possible!

Look into the path eraser tool, which you can get to by clicking and holding on the pencil tool. Or you may have started with a broken circle in the past, rather than one that is connected the full 360°.
The top tool is the path eraser tool.

  • When i use eraser tool and take hand off mouse everything i erased reappears, does anyone know why?

When i am using the eraser tool and i take my hand off the mouse all the work i erased instantly reappears, does anyone know why? (i'm very new to illustrator). Thanks in advance for any help.

What Mike says but remember that the eraser is a very crude tool.
As a beginner you should begin by learning how the vector paths behave. Learn how to add and subtract anchor points and work with the bézier handles.

  • My eraser tool acts weirdly. Everytime i use eraser tip on my pen, I cannot change the size of it with either tablet wheel or brackets. It changes the size of a brush tool instead. This was not happening in CS6.. Any ideas?

So this problem is annoying me. Is there any setting that has been added and this got messed up or is it a bug? In CS6 I could turn around my pen and use the eraser tip and change the size of it.
Now in CC 2014 I can't do it. I have to manually click the Eraser tool, and then change the size. I must say this is annoying as hell.

Reset the tool? What do you mean?
EDIT: Never mind, i found out how to reset. I Ctrl+Right clicked and reseted both brush and eraser but it still doesn't fix the issue. I also downloaded PS CS6 version and it works fine there.. So I don't know what it is. Must be a bug in CC 2014..

  • Found Bug in PS CS6 While Trying to use the Eraser Tool

I was editing an 8 bit JPEG that I imported from Adobe Lightroom 3.  While using the standard eraser tool to erase the background it would stop working and then move the screen around until I released the mouse button.  This happend about every 10 - 20 seconds.  I'm using a Macbook 2,1 with the OSX 10.6.8.
    Recreate Steps:
    1) Import 8-bit JPEG from Lightroom 3
    2) Select eraser tool on main layer (background)
    3) While holding the mouse button down start to erase part of the image
    4) About 10 - 20 seconds in the eraser will stop working and then when you move the mouse around image moves
    5) To stop the movement you have to release the mouse button and the find the correct part of the image again and start erasing again
    6) Most of the time I was viewing the image at >150%
Hope this helps and you can find a fix.  It's very annoying to have to stop and find the correct area of your photo to erase.
    Anyone else having this issue?

I am trying to reproduce this but as of now, mine is working properly.

  • Eraser tool doesn't erase the eraser circle completely like it used to....going nuts here

Okay....I have been on this problem for a couple of weeks.  Either I have gone mad, or they changed something.
Simply, I want to take the Eraser tool, a round circle, and erase!  Now, PS wont erase the ENTIRE circle to the edge of the circle (eraser).  I must have done something and have pushed ever button I could thing of to correct this.  It use to be I could place the eraser on something and KNOW exactly where it would begin erasing.  Sigh.  Can anyone help this Forum Noob.  Thanks

Happy to helps -- and please don't cry. I go to pieces when other people cry.

  • Using the Blob Brush and Eraser Tools | Learn Illustrator CS6 | Adobe TV

One fun way of creating shapes is to use the Blob Brush tool in combination with the Eraser tool. In this video we'll use these tools to create a stylized teddy bear.

Thanks, I was skeptical at first, but in the end learned a thing or two.

  • Is there a way to use eraser tool with soft edges?

    Hi,
I am wanting to erase the edges of a rectangular object so that it blends better with the background, and am wondering if there is a way of doing this using the eraser tool with soft edges?
Here is a snapshot to illustrate further what I mean:
You should be able to see that above the curve on the left there is a gradient which extends to the top of the image. This is the rectangle which I have applied a gradient to. At the top of the rectangle the colour is the same as the background. What I am trying to do is to blend the left edge of the rectangle in with the background above the curve (below the curve there is a line so no blending is needed). The way I thought of doing this is using the eraser tool with a soft edge. I can do this in Photoshop, but I'm not sure if this is possible or the best approach in Illustrator.
I would be grateful for any advice on this,
    Thanks,
    Nick

I don't really understand yoru end goal. However, the answer to yoru Eraser Tool question is no. There is no such thing as a "soft edge" for the eraser tool.
The ways to blend objects in specific areas only would be:
    Gradients with transparent stop
    Gradient mesh with transparency nodes
    Opacity masks
Fake it by blending to the same color as the background.

  • Can't use the erase tool inside a Layer Mask

Recently after updating Photoshop CC I noticed that I can no longer use the erase tool inside of a Layer Mask to add or remove areas from/to the mask. The paint brush tool still works inside the mask but the erase tool does not. Any ideas why?

Make sure your foreground/background colors are set to BW. And, make sure your foreground color is set to the same color you want to erase from the Layer Mask: Black if you want to erase (turn white) the black part of the mask, White if you want to erase (turn black) the white part of the mask.

  • I am having trouble using the clone tool and eraser tool.

I am not able to see my brush get bigger as I increase the size.  Once I clone an area, it selects what I want to clone, but it won't paste it on the photo.  I cannot also use my eraser tool.  It does not show the line that usually is shown in white before it erases the area. I am working on a background copy.

Suggest that you reset all tools to default.
Look for this box icon with lines in it on a tool's option bar. This is for PSE v. 12 and perhaps for v.11 (I'm not certain about 11)
For earlier versions of PSE, look for a little arrow, top left, on the option bar

  • Eraser tool problem

I am using Illustrator CS4 on a mac with a .ai file and am trying to use the eraser tool to remove a piece of an object from an area that I want to remain transparent (I don't want to just cover it with white).  The object is made of two paths with a blend.  Whenever I select the eraser tool, it shows a pencil with a slash.  What am I doing wrong?  If nothing, how else can I do what I want to?
Nothing in my project is locked or hidden.  I've tried this with nothing selected and with various pieces of the blend selected (and the whole object, of course) and have the same result every time.  I've also quit and reopened.
Thanks in advance for your help.

That's perfect!  Thank you for reminding me that I can release blend.  I was able to erase what I didn't want and then shift the anchor points to exactly where I wanted them.
    Thanks!

  • Eraser tool doesn't Erase

In my practice session using the Eraser tool I can't make it work.  From Help, "To erase any object on the artboard, leave all objects unselected".
That works -- until I stop the mouse drag and let go of the button.  Then the paths and fill bounce back from invisibility instantly.
GM, using Win 7 and AI cs5.

Here, I'll try to upload a local file.  Last time, the uploader didn't work and I had to post it first to Photobucket.
Line 1 is a piece of freehand text "ERASE" created with a caligraphic brush, 5 pts stroke.
Line 2 is the result of dragging the Eraser tool, 200 dia., across, from right to left. The top of the round eraser passed over the lower 2/3 of the word. As it passed over, that portion of the text completely disappeared.  When done, however, it all came back except for small gaps or breaks that you can see.
Line 3 is the result of selection of the lower half. It reveals that the paths have indeed been affected -- but not erased.
