GRUB Error, unable to boot [SOLVED]
Edited Away!
Last edited by wroom (2009-06-12 20:57:32)No problem. I am glad I was able to help.
FYI, In the grub entry for Vector you used the devfs (Arch) style (/dev/discs/disc0/partx) to define the root partition instead of the older dev system (/dev/hdax) that Vector expected. Besides that there was nothing wrong with your grub entries. -
Error biohd-2 boot path testing no drive detected
Hi, I have an error massage on boot path testing and says no drive detected. The error code is BIOHD-2. My dard drive and everthying is OK but somehow unable to boot. please help.
Hello ayaansharif:
These links might help you http://www.windowserrorhelps.com/biohd-2-error-fix-error-code-biohd-2-by-yourself-now , http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091109134242AAVBaGy, http://www.touchsmartdevzone.com/forum/thread/969/Error-Code-BIOHD-2/ ,http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/948483-solved-hp-desktop-selecting-proper.html Based on these answers it looks like they replaced the hard drive. Check your warranty status your computer maybe still under warranty. You can go to your computer's HP web page and click on manual go down your computers parts list and find what hard drive it uses then go to HP's computers parts ordering page and order one. If under warranty just contact HP Direct Support and they will ship you a new hard drive. They are not to difficult to install. Just time consumming removing the little screws. You may need to order a set of recovery disk from HP as well. Because HP's recovery disk include the operating system disks. Please click on Kudos if this resolves your issue. Thank you frrw. -

[SOLVED] - Arch Boot Error: Unable to find Root Device /dev/sdb1
I had Arch running perfectly using /dev/sdb1 (versus Disk Label or UUID) and decided to do a update. After the Update I can't boot
to a running system, and I get this error message:
ERROR: Unable to find root device /dev/sdb1
You are being dropped into a recovery shell.
Is there an easy way to convert to UUID or Disk Label since the latest Upgrade doesn't allow me to continue to use /dev/sdb1 ??
I'd prefer not to have to rebuild both USB Flash Drives to get functional systems.
Any Help is greatly appreciated.
Suggestions?
Larry

External USB boot: "fs error - unable to read inode" occurs eventually
[ISSUE: on ONE PC only: ALL external USB drives eventually give console readout like: "fs error - unable to read inode" - endlessly , and no longer accessible.]
I am BOOTING off of the drives in question [ext2 formatted] which may be a large part of it though perhaps not.
PC spec:
- Older motherboard ASUS p4pe.
- has USB 2 though probably a bit iffy.
- Does NOT boot from USB so using the briilliant PloP bootmanager on CD to achieve external USB boot.
Of interest was comments found about the : the ehci_hcd module
which seems very likely that the motherboard I'm having problems with is because of the USB implimentation and this.
REALLY could use a fix for this one. At least, I need to understand what's happening.
OR:
I found this on the Ubuntu forum and was hoping it would be the FIX and that I could get a comment about how to try on my beloved ARCH systems.
------------ Script TEXT from forum over at ubuntu -----------
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=452246
The POSTER there replied saying the following:
problem: USB disk change to read only
Hi,
I solved this 7-8 months ago and haven't had any problems since.
Create a executable file for example /usb/bin/usbhdfix and place the following in it.
Code:
#!/bin/bash
echo 1024 > /sys/block/$1/device/max_sectors
echo 1 > /sys/block/$1/device/scsi_disk:*/allow_restart
1024 works for me but I've also heard about people going lower than default with good results.
I have a Seagate FreeAgent which also have the problem with restarting after spinning down so solution for that is added as well.
Then create a udev-rule.
Code:
# /etc/udev/rules.d/50-fix_usb_hd.rules
SUBSYSTEMS=="scsi", ATTRS{vendor}=="Seagate", ATTRS{model}=="FreeAgentDesktop", RUN+="/usr/bin/usbhdfix %k"

ERROR: Unable to open TUXCONFIG file
Hi,
I installed and installed the following software successfully on Windows XP
Oracle WebLogic Server 11gR1 (10.3.1) Microsoft Windows
PeopleSoft Enterprise PeopleTools 8.50
PeopleSoft Enterprise Human Resources Management System 9.1 - Revision 2
Tuxedo 10gR3 for MS Windows Server 2003 w/MS VS 2005 (32-bit x86, AMD64/EM64T x64) 32-bit
i am at the point of installing the Application Server. Domain created sucessfully but i got boot errors as shown below.
I searched for the TUXCONFIG file but could not find it in the tuxedo installation folder.
I read that i have to create the TUXCONFIG,if missing, using tmloadcf.exe and the ubbconfig file, but the only UBBCONFIG file is located in "\samples\atmi\rpcsimp\" folder.
How do i create the TUXCONFIG file?
Did i miss something with the installation? What location should this file exist after your tuxedo installation?
thanks

The TUXCONFIG file normally is created automatically when you create your domain.
In this case I think you ran into trouble because the path of installation is too long!
Note the error in your log:
115818.SU1491!PSWATCHSRV.5832.6140.-2: LIBTUX_CAT:1519: ERROR: TUXCONFIG value (C:\Documents and Settings\klondon\psft\pt\8.50\appserv\hrms\PSTUXCFG) is longer than the allowed length of 64
Your path is 69 chars long!
I would suggest that you re-try the configuration with a shorter tuxedo and PS_HOME: perhaps in the root directory (c:\PSHOME)
In the past I've also noticed that installations have problems with paths that have spaces - ex: 'Documents and settings' , so I would avoid that as well.

[SOLVED] Unable to boot ISO on USB
Hello,
I'm unable to boot from USB. I have the following error : "Failed to install override security policy: (14) Not Found".
I tried the following solution : http://superuser.com/a/676059
But then my computer does not want to boot on the USB. I don't have any option for UEFI on my computer's BIOS (ASUS eeepc). Note that I don't want a dual boot with Windows and there is currently a broken archlinux installation on my hard drive.
Can anyone help me with this ?
Thanks. :-)

Yes, I used :
dd bs=4M if=/path/to/archlinux.iso of=/dev/sdb && sync
And for creating the ISO (after copying the file for the workaround) :
genisoimage -iso-level 4 -o archlinux.iso archlinux
Mr.Elendig wrote:
This may be caused by buggy uefi firmware, check if there is a new one for your card.
Also in some cases it can be caused by fastboot/similar so check for that too in the bios.
I don't have an option for last boot. I'll check for a new uefi firmware !
EDIT: How do I check for that ?
I have an option on the BIOS "Launch EFIT Shell from filesystem" which search for Shellx64.efi on the available filesystem devices. However, it is calle shellx64_v1.efi and shellx64_v2.efi on the archlinux iso. May be this be a problem ?
Anyway, it's strange, the last time I installed Archlinux this eeepc (more than one year ago...) I didn't had any problem !

Hi All,
I have installed HCM 9 with 8.49.08 PeopleTools on CentOS 5.3 Linux. Everything went fine (I have completed the creation of database) until I am about to start the application server that I have just created. I am getting this error, "TMADMIN_CAT:1607: ERROR: Unable to initialize public key subsystem".

[Solved] Unable to boot (startup job is running)
Hi there!
Today I went home and tried to boot my laptop there, but was unable to boot Arch.
Before I went home I did a system update using ' sudo pacman -Syu ' and shut the laptop off normally. Right now I get the following message whilst booting:
" A startup job is running for dev-disk...25EFDCE0.device"
It fails after 1 min. 30s and shows a time out error for dependency /mnt/6776F38425EFDCE0, and refuses to boot. I waited for 5 min. but the only thing working at that stage is the shut down button (which appears to enter a normal shutdown mode).
Grub 2 is functioning; Windows 8 boots up fine (same HDD); though all options to boot arch fail because of the 'startup job error message'.
Do any of you know how I can fix this, or how to boot/fix arch such that I can attempt to fix it? Based on a search trough this forum it might be an error in FSTAB, although all cases reported on this forum appear to boot normally after the 'a startup job is running 'error message'.
Many thanks.

Changing the UUID's to /dev/sdaX did not do it's magic, unfortunately. The ' a start job' message is gone, the boot however gets stuck at
/dev/sda2 clean .... (beginning of boot)
Unfortunately I did not properly save the back-up of my fstab file, so the initial set up is lost. Was able to acces arch using alt+f2 and have restored it manually with
lsblk -f
It currently looks like this. I did have a line to automount my data partition (/dev/sda4, label: Data), but didn' t know how to restore that one as that line got deleted too. My gut says this automount was causing the initial error, but it should boot up normally with the current fstab file, right?

Application Error: Unable to launch application
Hi guys,
My name is Jay Sun and I am new this this Forums. I am told by my professor to migrate from this Java application to Java Web Start.
I read all about it but I'm still struggling. I have an example program called Traffic Light. From the TrafficLight class,
I created a .jar file from .java file. The jar file runs perfectly fine and I created a .jnlp file using this.<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<jnlp spec="1.0+"
codebase="file:///C:/Documents and Settings/HP_Administrator/Desktop/TrafficLight" href="TrafficLight.jnlp">
<information>
<title>Traffic Light</title>
<vendor>Java Developer Connection</vendor>
<homepage href="/jdc" />
<description>Demonstration of JNLP</description>
</information>
<offline-allowed/>
<resources>
<j2se version="1.6+" />
<jar href="TraffcLight.jar"/>
</resources>
<application-desc main-class="Traffic Light" />
</jnlp>That's my .jnlp file.
My .java file is below it.import java.awt.*;

file:///Documents and Settings/... will work, but this means the path:
/Documents and Settings/... on the current path.
if you have to include the "c:" part first, then there needs to be only 2 leading slashes, because "/C:/Documents and Settings/..." is not a leagle pathname (even after replacing the file separators).
However the colon (":") char is not legal in a URL, so has to be escaped.
Best to just use: "file:///Documents and Settings/..."
