Paying too much with Verizon?????

A while back I dropped my smartphone access fee due to the fact that I just didn't use the smartphone very much. When I did use my smartphone I was frustrated by call drops, bad voice, and that annoying touch screen that seems to take you to places where you don't want to go. My average bill without plan changes was $124 or so with 2 lines and only one of those lines a smartphone and thankfully it was that price because of my government savings discount. Now my bill is $117 and change without the smartphone access charge. How does a $29.99 reduction in features equal only a $7 savings on the bill????? I know that I am being cheated by Verizon out of money and I am tired of talking to customer service reps that give me lines about how they "Can't" provide customer service. Hopefully Verizon answers this question for ALL to see... The economy is very tough right now and WE are customers paying good money to companies that don't recognize the fact that "the customer is always right." What happened to decent customer service?

Not sure what a "proration" is or what it was for, but the account is paid in full. This still doesn't answer why I am paying $117 without smartphone access when I was paying $124ish with smartphone access? The $117 is my standard monthly charges with taxes included. $124ish was the average standard monthly access charges with smartphone access included as well as taxes.
Proration just means applying part-month charges, so any month where you change your plan, unless you do it on the bill date, you get a bill that reflects so many days at one rate, and the rest of the days at another.  However, you are saying that $117 is the charge you are seeing on all the monthly bills, so proration isn't the cause.
However, I'm not sure how you are expecting people to answer without seeing your bill.  Presumably you can compare the old bill with the new bill and see what charges have changed, apart from the smartphone data going away.   One thing to check, are you being charged for feature phone data?  There are various packages, less than $29.99 but can still be significant.

  • Paying too much?

Does anyone else feel like they are paying too much? I have been with Verizon for 3 years now and my bill for 5 people is about $300 a month. I called to see if I could get any sort of lower rate for being a customer for so long and I was given the option to remove a GB of data from my plan to help lower my cost. I was also offered a promotional GB. Magically, when having my GB removed, I went over my data and was forced to buy the GB back. Verizon has no idea as to why the data was so high. I have been looking at less expensive options. I have let Verizon know that, but they basically said go ahead. Verizon has very poor customer service. In my opinion they do not care about their customers, only the money in our wallet. As soon as my phone lines are FREE from the contract, I plan to leave Verizon. They are far too expensive and don't provide for their customers. I even have a 17% discount on my bill through my work, but conveniently, it only applies to a small charge that has no purpose. If you are considering Verizon don't, you are better off somewhere else!!

I would be curious what that "small charge that has no purpose" happens to be.
Are you on the More Everything plan? If so, that "small charge that has no purpose" is for your data. If the data on your plan "has no purpose" simply change your data allowance to the lowest possible amount and it WILL save you money.
If you THEN go over your data allowance, that charge DOES have a purpose then. If you use the data, then the charge DOES have a purpose.

  • Best time to upgrade to avoid paying too much upfront?

Is it better to upgrade right after you've paid your monthly bill to avoid paying too much out of pocket?  I know you have to pay for the month ahead but I am trying to do it the cheapest way out of pocket?

I don't see how paying out of pocket would change if you were to upgrade now then later. I suppose the price(s) of a phone could change as in drop in price. If you don't want to pay out of pocket then try looking at the free phones Verizon has to offer.

  • Kanga- Did I pay too much?

Hi. I just bought a Powerbook 3500 with a 250MHz processor, a 7Gig Hard drive, a 20X cd drive, an AC adapter, a bookendz docking station, and 64MB of ram for $26.00 + $20.00 shipping. Did I pay to much for this machine?
Also, I have a few questions.
the battery is dead, where can i get a new one for cheap?
does it have an ethernet port, or just 56k?
and what kind of ram does it use? i cant settle for 64MB.

You did not pay too much, you got too much. At least 100 too much. You specified 3500. Do you mean you got a PowerBook 3400? The specs for that model are here:
112393- Macintosh PowerBook 3400c/180: Technical Specifications
The 10BaseT Ethernet port is listed as optional on the /180 model, standard on the rest.
You can't get a new battery for cheap. Any battery made by Apple is now quite old. You may be able to get a serviceable used battery for cheap. You will have to shop hard for aftermarket RAM and batteries.
RAM is available here (battery, too):

  • I'm using a TravelSIM to make calls home to Australia on my iPhone 4S while I'm overseas. Do I need to change settings, or do anything else, to make sure I don't pay too much?  eg turn off push data - what else?

I'm using a TravelSIM to make calls and texts home to Australia on my iPhone 4S while I'm overseas. Do I need to change settings, or do anything else, to make sure I don't pay too much?
I have advice to turn off push data and don't use Google maps
Are there other things I should do so my costs will be kept low?
thanks for any answers from experienced iPhone using travellers!
    kind regards,   Di

It's not entirely impossible actually as someone has pointed out to me that I can turn on Call Forwarding and that stops any incoming calls. I've just forwarded it to my google voice number and then turned on "do not disturb" in google voice and whenever I get a call it goes straight to my google voice voicemail and my phone does nothing. The only thing now is I still get text messages but I think the phone calls bugged me more because they would make my music turn off for much longer.
Even though this isn't a perfect solution it's something so far so maybe you shouldn't just come out and say there's NOTHING I can do because so far I've found part of a solution. If you don't have anyting productive to say then just don't reply and close the tab. Thanks.
At this point I'm wondering if anyone knows of any Jailbreak tweaks that can enable what I want. Unless of course it's agaisnt the rules of this forum to mention jailbreak stuff...

  • I am paying too much

My monthly bill comes regularly comes to around £65-70. I have Infinity, anytime calls and BT Vision Essential, not gather with BT Sports in HD. My Vision box hasn't worked for several months now and even when it did, I didn't use the channels at all. I prefer to watch the sports channels on the tablet. I still have 6 months to go on Essential but would like to cancel it and return the box. That would take £7 off the monthly bill and then a further £3 for the sports in HD.
But I still feel Infinity 2 with anytime calls for around £46 before any phone call charges, is too much. I want my overall monthly bill to be reduced to around £50 from the current £60 to £70 I am paying. Can I cancel the Vision service and return their box (the box and the remote haven't been working for months anyway). I want to keep infinity 2 but do have the option to downgrade. I can use the current hub 4 and downgrade, right? But I like the higher speeds of Infinity 2, so would probably keep that.
So what's the most I can reduce my bill by given the information above?
    Thanks

Well, I am on the Essential TV package still with a few months to go for the 12 month before expiration. However, I my box hasn't been working for sevral months now nor the remote. In any case, I found I don't use any of the channels. I used the box to record a few episodes of the Simpsons but even the box has now mulfunctioned. I would like to cancel the Essentials and also the £3 month for the sports in HD. I don't watch the sports on the TV anyway as I prefer a tablet device. So what I would like to know, would I be able to get out of the contract? I am perfectly happy to return the Vision box.
Another thing - I am currently on Infinity 2 with anytime calls and have the hub 4. I think my flat charges a month for Infinity 2 and anytime calls come to around £46 or so (excluding the Essentials and HD sports channels). How much can I save if I downgrade to Infinity 1 but keeping anytime calls? Would I be able to downgrade over the phone and still receive Infinity 1 over the hub 4 device? Is it a simple matter of downgrading over the phone or do I need a visit by an engineer?
I really need to bring my overall charges from the £60 to sometimes over £70 a month to around £50 or less. I  only use the broadband and make use of the free phone calls, ocassionally making charged calls. I think for those two things (broadband and free calls) I should expected to pay no more than £50 a month. There are lot of companies out there and prices are quite competitive. However, I would prefer to stay with BT. I have had excellent broadband service from them over the last 3 years or so I have been with them. Usually fast and hardly any downtime and also excellent wireless coverage around the house.

  • "password too short" with verizon cellular data account

    Hi everyone,
When I try to set up a cellular data account on my ipad 2 with verizon, I continue to receive a "password too short" message. My password exceeds the minimum characters specified and has four numbers. Anyone else getting this infuriating response? Thanks

Think?  I'd call again and get another rep.  Why in the world a locked account unlock automatically?  Doesn't that kinda defeat the purpose of a lock?

  • Paying Too much Bill and still not getting the High speed Internet that I am Supposed to

First month I got my bill it was acceptable over $150 because all the technician work and line-up and everything. So I have Verizon double play and Direct Tv together and in 2nd month I got $143.14 bill just for 3mbps internet and on the bill it says i added the service "Change in the Partial Month". First of all I didn't even added the service and it was supposed to be less than $100 dollar bill because the Direct Tv is $23.99 which is my Entertainment Package and the Double Play is $50.99, so the  total bill is going to be pretty much like $90-$100 with tax and everything. If the next month bill comes more than $100, then I am definitely cancelling  Verizon and switch to Optimum Cable. By the way I had Comcast triple play which was $100 for Tv, Internet & Phone for 2 yeas before I had Verzon and I used to get more than 20 mbps internet speed but in Verizon I am getting only 3mbps which is very unsatisfied.
Thank you for your time, Verizon

Rounding to the nearest dollar is $75.00, plus an additional $10-$12,
would not equal $143 per month.

  • File Size Growing too much with every Save

I have designed a form that uses Giids with drop-down lists and also some Image Fields.  When I am using the form and I save it the file size grows excessively with each save.  If I add even one character to a sentence the file size may grow by as much as 500K or more. Saving a few times causes the file to become far to large to send by email.  Any ideas what I need to try and fix, or is this just normal?

Nope,  I have it unselected and it still grows by leaps and bounds.  Any other ideas?  Is there anyone I can send a form to who  can work on it for a fee?

  • Too much withe space!

I have just changed from Entourage to Mail. I imported all my emails without any problems; everything looked fine.
Then this morning when I checked my email, all my emails looked different!
They all begin with the senders email adress. Then comes a lot of (white) space and then the subject and date. Again a lot of space the To: appears - white space (I need to scroll) and the finally the content of the email.
It's very annoying and looks nothing like what Apple Mail looked like yesterday or the way Apple sells it!
    I have tried rebuilding - nothing happens…

This is a font issue. You’ve probably either disabled or removed a font that Mail needs to work properly (e.g. Helvetica):

  • I think I've just messed too much with my install

    Hi
Recently, I have upgraded my system using the [testing] repo.
Then I wanted to downgrade, and as I read somewhere here on the board, the only way of doing so is to manually remove packages and reinstall them after removing [testing] from pacman.conf.
    So I did just this:
    pacman -Rd cairo cairomm camsource db dcron device-mapper dia digikam dmraid dosbox doxygen firefox gd ghostscript glib2 gnome-python-extras graphicsmagick graphviz gstreamer0.10-good gstreamer0.10-good-plugins gthumb gtk2 gzip imagemagick imlib2 initscripts inkscape jasper kdebase-runtime kdebase-workspace kdegraphics-gwenview kdegraphics-kamera kdegraphics-kcolorchooser kdegraphics-kgamma kdegraphics-kolourpaint kdegraphics-kruler kdegraphics-ksnapshot kdegraphics-libs kdegraphics-okular kdelibs kdelibs3 kfax kile kipi-plugins klibc klibc-extras klibc-module-init-tools klibc-udev lcms libcap libcups libdjvu libdrm libgphoto2 libjpeg libmng libpng librsvg libtiff libvncserver libwebkit libwmf lvm2 mdadm mjpegtools mplayer nano netcfg obex-data-server octave opencv openoffice-base-devel pciutils pcmciautils php php-apache php-cgi php-curl php-gd php-mcrypt php-pear php-sqlite php-xsl pilot-link plotutils pm-utils poppler poppler-glib poppler-qt povray pstoedit pyqt python-qscintilla qscintilla qt qt3 redland rrdtool sdl_image slim sqlite3 texlive-bin thunar thunderbird tightvnc udev util-linux-ng vigra vlc wireless-regdb wxgtk xawtv xf86-video-intel xfce4-notifyd xine-lib xulrunner xz-utils zvbi
Now pacman won't work, because of missing xz-utils, which is used by libarchive, which pacman itself depends on.
What to do to save my system?

    drcouzelis wrote:
I don't think it would be hard to use the Arch Linux install CD, do a live boot, "chroot", and then use pacman as usual.
I think that makes sense. Doesn't it?
Wouldn't it be the same problem then?
I mean, if you chroot to the install, xz-utils will still be missing. Or does pacman use the stick's binaries also from within chroot?

  • Did i pay too much for Ram?

My local mac dealer is charging $200 for 1gig of ram. I notice people posting how cheap they can get ram online. Should i expect a store front to offer the same or close to same price?
    thanks

Depends on where their RAM is coming from. If it's Apple RAM then probably not although it is rather expensive whichever way you look at it. Even Apple offers a 1GB MacBook for less than that as a CTO. If that's what you paid then you can just take it as a learning experience. There are plenty of other things that you could have overpaid for which could have been far worse than this.
By the way, did you buy it as a single SODIMM or 2 x 512MB SODIMMs?

I am an exchange student for the year and I would like to by an iphone that i can use in France also, so I need an unlocked one but i don't want to pay to much for it... What should I do?

What do you mean what should you do?  Just because you don't want to pay too much for a phone, doesn't make the price any cheaper.  If you can't afford the price of an unlocked phone, then you don't, or can't, buy one.

  • Can anyone recommend a good OCR software that doesn't cost too much?

I want to scan a document and convert text to a Word file. I can find very few options when it comes to OCR software for macs. I don't want to pay too much as I won't be using enough to warrant a high price. But I don't want to key-in a lot of copy by hand. All the reviews I found are from over a year ago. Any suggestions for recent OCR versions?
    Thanks!

I have been a customer with Verizon, since 1996. Recently, my husband has been added onto my account. We have both been experience drop calls. My husband contact Tech support for over 2 weeks. We were pretty upset to be paying a lot of money for a service that didn't work. Verizon advised us that would upgrade both of our phones (to see if that solved the problem). Ok...this is where Verizon has forgotten customer service rules. He order 2 phone...one for himself, one for me. 1st the wrong address on the package..Fedex couldn't deliver...2nd...missing condo number Fedex couldn't deliver again...(2nd call to Verizon)...3rd package was finally deliver with 1 phone...missing my phone. Contacted verizon rep...reorder my phone again..but sorry we cannot give the same price as quoted on 21April...even though...its our mistake...Ok...Ok..what a surprise..but we can do this...after 65 minutes...found a price that was a little bit more...fine...just order the phone....I reordered phone on 28April...on the April 29...no email..so I can Verizon for the 4times in a few days..sorry your order was delay due to our Fraud dept. OK...talked to fraud dept...ok..account is good..will release phone and ship. OK...Next day, no email with deliver confimation. Contact Verizon 5 times now...sorry..your order was cancelled...YES...cancelled again...2nd time now...but we can reorder...OK...sorry but we cannot honor that price that was quoted..really...agent messed up...again...but we can do this for you....I don't understand...your mistake...ALL the times...
Strange ...how my order gets cancelled twice by Verizon's mistake....yet you cannot honor prices that your agents quoted!!!
I didn't reorder the phone....I cannot in good faith same with a company that does not stand behind their own mistakes...and worse...they make the poor customer pay for it...
I will not be renewing my contact...its time to Cricket Wirless...which my sister-in-law loves for half the cost....

I hope that you aren't complaining about dropped calls INSIDE your condo because no amount of switching or upgrading devices will solve that.
VZW will not guarantee service inside of any structure. There are just too many factors. If the problem is inside then you might want to look at one of the following:
1.) Network Extender (may cause issues for others in a condo or apartment style setting)
2.) A Google Voice Number (Free with a Gmail email address), downloading Google Hangouts Dialer and forwarding your calls to the GVN so that you can make and receive calls over Wi-Fi.
