How can I add text to a field based on XML tagging?

I'm fairly new to using XML in InDesign layouts, and I'm currently facing an issue getting a bunch of content from database records formatted in a print document (text that flows over dozens of pages). I've figured out how to create an InDesign template, but I need to be able to add text between some of the XML elements in two different scenarios:
1. Add text or line breaks before or after an XML element that always appears in the document. For example: Adding "Description:" before the XML-tagged description content, or adding a return after the last element in a list.
2. Add text before or after an XML element only if it appears in the document. For example: If there's a second phone number, tagged "Phone2" in the XML, then I want " or " to appear before it in the layout. Otherwise there's just one phone number and it continues on to the next piece of content.
I have tried inserting this text into the InDesign template, but keeping them means having to also keep parts of the template that aren't used on every import--so I have a bunch of "or Phone2" bits of text to find and replace afterward. That's OK, but I'd like a more elegant solution that doesn't leave potential mistakes in my layout.
In my preliminary research so far, it looks like an XSLT or scripting might be able to handle this, but I don't know where to start. Can someone tell me if what I'm looking for is possible and suggest the best way to do it? I'm going to have to trial-and-error a solution for this myself.
I am using ID CS6 on a Mac. Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for your reply. The line that you mention is added at the top of the message, and includes the original sender's email. I would like my name to appear, next to each line I add in the text of the original mail.
For example:
Assuming my name is Joe Smith, what I would like to have as the final reply is described below.
The lines that start with "[Joe Smith]" are my replies, to the original items in the original mail.

Inserting a value from page field into an xml file

Hi there,
I have added a field 'Comments' on a create vacancy page.
There are other fields on that page and the values from those fields are getting stored in an xml file.
This xml file is getting stored in TRANSACTION_DOCUMENT column of table HR_API_TRANSACTIONS.
Is it possible to add the value from the field (that I've added on the page) into the same xml file?
If yes, please tell me how
and if no, tell me what should I do to store that value.

Hi Gaurav,
You need to check in seeded files for the logic of generation of XML file and setting it in DB column. May be in PLSQL API this code would exist.
Once you get that logic you can append your column value in XML tag (need to create new tag) if you are allowed to modify seeded API. Otherwise use free additional attributes of the table.

my problem has been solved by giving the FCC parameters as shown below:
my output file record structure :

So i have given in the receiver FCC parameters as:

Content conversion parameters:
item.fieldFixedLengths 255
item.endSeparator 'nl'

Any way to validate the Mandatory field in the XML file

Hi,
Is there any way to validate the Mandatory field in the XML file. I created an xml type table xml_validate based on the schema and insert the XML files with statement.
INSERT INTO xml_validate(warehouse_id,xml_file_name,warehouse_spec)
Values (agreementid,p_filename,XMLTYPE.createXML(l_clob));
It is validating the data types, extra tags etc but not validating the missing of the manadatory tag/value.

Yes, I was not doing the strict validation, after searching the forum i understood that was the reason. So i did this way,

Field in Schema.xml

I am implementing a custom schema.xml for a list template. These is a field that will be provisioned separately in a different feature. However, I would like to reuse that field in schema.xml. Can I do that? Can I refer to its GUID as follows in Fields
section?

it's long ago for me, but if you add a feature activation Dependency to the feature, containing the List and targeting the field containing feature, you should do fine.
Such dependencies are defined in Visual Studio and result in a node under "ActivationDependencies" int the Feature-Definition:

If you now try to activate your list containing feature without having you field containing feature activated before, SharePoint will hint you towards the missing feature instead of activating you list feature.

XML Forms Builder: Sorting news based on a date field in a XML form

I have a requirement and I am stuck up in finding a solution. I have a XML form and this has been mapped to a folder in KM. It publishes news. In the collection renderer settings there is an option to sort the news ascending or descending based on created/modified criteria.
The requirement is to sort the news based on a date field in XML form. Can you experts help me in getting the solution for same?
The users who post the news in our portal needs the information to be sorted based on a date field shown.

Oracle BI Administration Tool 11g - Fields have the XML data type

I'm using Oracle BI Administration Tool 11.1.1.3.0 and I need to import Metadata an Oracle table where same fields have the XML data type.

Thanks for the attempt, but tried what you suggested and it will only pull records where the Asterisk is the ONLY character in that data field.
Maybe I wasn't clear enough.
I have in access of 200,000 records in KNA1, out of which some of them have one or more * values in the some of the fileds, eg: Comany ABC At XXXX road Workshop is stored in the Name 1 field, I want all records like this where * is one of the characters in that field.
May have to download the entire lot and use Excel to filter.

REST API XML tags for person extension fields

We are trying to use REST API to create a person. We are able to update most of the data but am unable to find the right xml tags for Person Extension fields like custom1 etc. Could you please help?

In the Account WSDL, you have the ListOfAddress object. If you are using it, filling the field "StreetAddress2" should work...

IDOC to File, variable substitution on outbound message XML tag attributes

My scenario is IDOC to FILE using XSL mappings.The target format is 2 XML tags (header, line) with the data stored in the attributes of each tag.
EG. <header attr1=one attr2=two attr3=three><line attr1=one attr2=two /></header>
The name of the file is dictated by an outbound attribute value in the header tag.
Can I get access to it the attribute in the target message in the CC_FILE using variable substution. ?
Currently I am not using content conversion as the XSL produces the file format needed, so I would pefer not to change the outbound message format/structure as this is going to an external party. I would prefer not to change the outbound format as this would need content conversion to strip the unwanted/information/processing node that is used for this purpose (file naming).
The name is a calculation of fields in the IDOC and is not explicit dictated (business logic is applied in the mapping to get the file name), so I would prefer to use the attribute of the resulting XML to keep the "business logic" in the XSL..
Things that cannot be changed.... 1. Must use XSL.for mapping. 2. Format cannot be changed of the outbound message. 3. Would prefer not to involved content conversion to keep formatting/node structure in the XSL mapping.
I have seen some reference to this being possible on the forums but nothing solid from what Ive read.
Something like var1 = payload:/Header/@attr1 in variable sub to get at the attribute
Any comments ?

Thanks for the link I have already implemented based on that link but the one crucial difference is that it is implemented using a static method with no reference to the actual object (payload) for Dynamic configuration. It seems that without the 7.0 API which isnt available in 7.1 by default XSL with java extentions is limited to static methods. If you could read the other thread it certainly is possible I'm mistaken.

Function in finding the count of ocurrances of an XML tag in j developer

I need to find the count of an xml tag that appears mutliple times in an xml payload.
I did not find any function in bpel doing this.I am using j developer version 11.1.1.5.0 and SOA Composite editor version 11.1.1.5.0.01.74
Is there any function in Bpel that gives as the count of occurence of an element in a payload?
Kindy suggest me on this.

The below function is used inside XSLT to count the nodeset
count(inputNodeSet as node-set)
Returns the number of nodes in inputNodeSet.

Removing XML definition & XML tage from the XML message....

We are using PI 7.1 and implementing a scenario in which we need to send a signed payment message to our partner, our implemented scenario goes as follows:
1) We are using SOAP without header to send the message.
2) We are signing the payload using our own java code as UDF in graphical mapping.
3) the main issue that we have is that in the final XML message which is being sent to our partnet, XMl definition and the topmode XML tage are again added to the signed message. Please see the following for reference:

We are using only I node in the graphical mapping and one UDF to sign in between the source and the target node. So after signingwe get the following in the target node:

Vijaya, we already have solved this problem by creating an EJB and adding it to SOAP Adapter processing modules, so rather signing our payload in the UDF in graphical mapping we are now signing the payload in the SOAP adapter module and removing any unwarranted characters etc over there as well. We cannot send SOAP with header in our scenario as it is adding hell lot of extra bites that our partner system cannot understand, so we have adapted the EJB way of solving it. Thanks anyways for your suggestion.
