PCI Fan for PowerEdge 860 has 3 pins, motherboard connector is 5 pins? how to connect?

I recently purchased a Perc RAID card for my PowerEdge 860 rackmount server.  It came with a PCI fan assembly.  I can't see how to connect this fan to the motherboard.  The fan has a 3 pin connector.  The PCI fan connector on the motherboard is a 5 pin connector.  How do I connect this fan?  Is there an adapter I can purchase?
My server is flashing orange at me now with a fan error in the openmanage software.  Everything appears to be running fine, but I'd like to correct this problem.

Yep, the connector is there.  It is a 5 pin connector.  The connector on the fan that came with the PERC board has only a 3 pin connector.  It is notched so that even if I knew which 3 of the 5 pins to connect to, I couldn't.

Have you synced this phone, with iTunes, while the passcode was enabled? If so, plug it in, iTunes running, & hit the Restore button on the Summary Pane. This will also erase the phone.
However, if you have not synced, while the passcode was enabled, you will not be able to do this without first enereting the passcode. If that's the case, try recovery mode:

  • PCI Fan Recommendation

I am looking to buy a PCI fan to install in my PowerMac G5. One forum user suggested xoxide.
Hopefully purchasing add-on fan will keep the already present fans quiet and the temperature under control. A few questions though...
    1. Are there any other companies out there that sells similar fans for comparison?
    2. Does anyone know what the noise level (dBA) in a PowerMac G5/Dual 2.0 GHz or the level of noise the internal fans make? (This would be based on when the G5's fans are operating under normal condition and not roaring out of control.) I would not want to install an additional fan if it is going to be louder than the PowerMac itself.
    3. Has anyone installed an extra internal fan? If so, how has it worked out or not?
    Thanks.

I contacted a vendor that sells the Thermaltake's TMG SL1 and his response was:
These slot coolers are designed to be used in PCI slots, so I do not know if they would work in a Mac or not. From the visual observation, it does not look like they would fit.
Aside from a physical limitation, what's the difference between PCI and PCI-X?
Just wondering...is it worth trying to attach a generic bendable USB fan?
    In terms of positioning:
    A. Would it make sense placing it in the back of the cpu, directly in front of the rear exhausts facing out to help pull more of the hot air out?
    Or
    B. Placing in the front of the cpu, close to the grille and and have it push the air out.
Perhaps, It may only have a negligible.

  • Mac Pro 4,1 (Early-2009) - PCIe Fan Broken?

    Hi Everyone:
I had a day off today and decided to do a bit of cleaning as its been a while (quite a while as far as my Mac Pro is concerrned).
I shut it down, unplugged all the cables and placed it on the table.
I removed the side cover, processor tray, all four drive bays, the GPU, and the PCIe Fan.
I blasted everything with compressed air or give it a nice wipe, much better!
I placed everything back inside the case and booted it up. It sounded slightly off, but I was going to check everything anyways. I looked at iStat Menu's and noticed that "Expansion Fan" was rated at 0rpm. Not good.
Maybe the sensor got damaged? I removed the side cover and looked at the fan, it wasn't spinning.
I unplugged everything, reset the SMC and tried again. Same thing. I reset the PRAM, same thing.
I removed the 1st and 2nd drives, took out the fan and resetted it very slowly until I heard a nice click.
Powered it up again and it still won't come to life.
    I have two worries:
    1. Did I damage the fan?
    2. Did I damage the connector on the motherboard?
I'm most definitely out of Applecare (the machine is just over 3 years old, about 2 months over )
I'm horrified to think what an out of warranty logic board replacement would cast me just to get this fan fixed.
How important is this fan? I've only got one PCI card inside (the HD 4870) and its fan works fine.
    Thoughts?

...I definitely need to get this fixed. The question is do I lug it into an apple store (awkward) or do I replace the fan and see if that solves it. Or third, do I have a local company do a house call (comvienent but more expensive).
Back on track with the right Mac Pro version, maybe there's a fourth possibility, ugly but functional. The PCIe area fan in the '09 and '10 Mac Pros is a different setup from the the earlier ones. The early ones had the fan at one end of the PCIe area, forcing air through and out the back. The '09 fan has a space next to it on the door side so the PCIe space isn't pressurized in the same way. If the fan isn't working, you could attach a larger fan on the outside of the front grill and power it separately. If anything, that might be an improvement by forcing the air through. It wouldn't adjust for actual internal temperature but it would help cool the cards, HD's and video card. The non-functioning fan would be in the way but the air pushing through would get the job done.

  • Anybody know any Good PCI Fans I can buy?

    Hello All,
Does anybody know of any good and reliable PCI Fan Cards I can buy for my Power Mac G5? Im looking at this one here? Is It a good idea to buy or no? http://www.vantecusa.com/en/product/view_detail/101 I love my Vantec DDR SDRAM Heatsinks I bought 4 of them from Newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835110105 They are awesome since my 4 1GB DDR Chips got very hot. Now I need one for my Graphics card. Thanks. Im still running my GeForce FX 5200. So I cant use any fans that run from the card itself. Thanks in advance.

    Hi-
One like This is nice because it exhausts hot air, rather than just mixing it around inside the case.
When installed next to an AGP card, it helps pull heat off the card and quickly expels it.
Just stirring air around can disrupt the airflow of the case.
A dual fan PCI slot cooler like This has both exhaust and a movable fan for increasing spot cooling.

  • For Anyone who has Blackberry Connect WITH OTA Con...

I've tried with an E61i, E90, and now E51, all with the latest firmware and latest Blackberry Connect software, and nothing I do on the device allows me to be able to do OTA sync of our corporate Exchange, (Outlook), Contacts. I only have the standard 3 options for sync in my Blackberry Connect client on my phone, Email Settings, Email Filters, and Calendar.
For anyone who has this working, can you confirm whether or not there is a BES server side setting that must be enabled to allow this OTA Contact sync, and what it is? If this is the case I'm not sure our corporate BES admin will go for it, but I can at least stop pulling my hair out on the client side..
    Thanks,

    Hi Rod,
Thanks for the link. I did went there and had a look.
First, as the article pointed out, there is a difference between Mac users and PC users. Mac users are Mac FANs, PC user are mostly just PC users. So if I look at the numbers, the number for Macs is less objective to me.
Second, the data was collected on pre-Intel units, especially iBooks, which has been around how many years? more than 5 I believe, correct me if I am wrong. Any product having that kind of life span should have a nearly perfect quality. Apple just simply had much more time to correct defect than other PC manufaturers, so no mistery here.
Third, Apple charges a premium price for its products, so it shoule choose the coponent vendors carefully and it owns its customers/fans a solid system. On the other hand, the other PC vendors are constantly going through fierce competition to lower their price, so it is inevitable to have some component vendors providing crapy parts, such as some LCD screens and keyboards from Dell.
Finally, lets look at MB and MBP, if they are as good as old Macs, then we should see similar amount of people complaining about MB and MBP as iBook and similar, but is it the case?
I very much want to be a member of the Mac world, especially now it uses one chip I worked on, but my shopping and reading experience told me otherwise - the MacBook is not ready, we need time to see if it lives up to the Apple name and it would be interesting what the next report from PC Magzine will look like...
Being a PC user almost all my life till now, want to join the Mac club, but Apple is making it supper hard for me. Is it really too much to ask for a working new MacBook upon arrival?!

  • Need fast, efficient, open-source PCIe DMA for your FPGA? RIFFA 2.2 from UCSD goes on GitHub

PCIe has been an intra-system connection interface of choice for quite a while now, offering a standardized and well-understood way to move large amounts of data quickly between, for example, a host CPU and an FPGA. Efficient, high-speed PCIe screams for DMA and if that’s what you need, the latest version of RIFFA 2.2 (Reusable Integration Framework For FPGA Accelerators) is now posted on GitHub and includes DMA IP you might want for your current or your next design.
RIFFA 2.2 employs communication channels between software threads running on a CPU and hardware user cores instantiated on an FPGA. A channel is similar to a network socket in that it must be opened before it can be read and written. Then it must be closed. However, unlike a network socket, channel reads and writes be made simultaneous by using two threads. Each channel is independent and thread-safe. RIFFA 2.2 supports as many as twelve channels.
Here’s a block diagram of the RIFFA hardware/software architecture:
    RIFFA Hardware/Software Architecture
But the real measure of a DMA controller is its ability to move data quickly and efficiently. According to the UCSD RIFFA Web page, the latest RIFFA versions are “able to saturate the PCIe link for nearly all link configurations supported.” The following chart shows the performance of designs based on RIFFA 2.1 using the 32 bit, 64 bit, and 128 bit interfaces:
For more detailed information about RIFFA, see the RIFFA 2.2 documentation and these two papers:

    Hi,
I'm from germany so no 'best buy' but I think I will lock around sleeve/bag for a different product with same measures. Any tip?
The clear plastic case is not what I want. I would like to use the player without such protections. I just want a sleeve to protect the player while its in my jacket/pants.
Btw, i have bought this version: Creative Zen (maybe european version?). I also doesn't seem to have your mentioned sleeve. I also couldn't find it on the website.
    Anyway, thank you,

Cannot figure out what your talking about since it makes no sense.
If you are the account owner you can go to the My Verizon web portal http://www.verizonwireless.com
You must log in with your cell number and your my Verizon portal password. Not the account pin.
Once there you can change your plan and services. However repeated incorrect login attempts will lock you out of the site. It a fraud prevention measure.
1-800-922-0204 call support with your cell number and or account number and account pin and they can assist you.
If you don't have the information then there is nothing they can do.
If you can verify who you are they may be able to reset your account access. But only if you are the account owner.

  • PCI Card for a new SSD. Good Idea?

Just upgragraded my 2009 MP (processor 3.33, video card, Ram). Just got a new 256 Samsung SSD wich is going below the optical drive. Did a search here about PCIe card for the drive and found that there's good and bad about it. Found this model model (Velocity solo x2). Is there one specific brand more suitable? or just make it simple and install the ssd below the optical drive.
    Thanks

The 2008 only has two 16x PCIe slots and the Sonnet Tempo Pro should be in the #2.
Even gpu's do not do as well as later models in performance, and some PCIe cards only supported booting in a 2009 or later.
Installing Mac OS to Sonnet Tempo I am sure you have read of the issues and how to get around it, is even on Sonnettech.com
Even though it 'tests' as xyz MB/sec in the real world the system is fine on SATA2 and in non-RAID setups. The 0.1ns seeks and latency and higher IO for reads. Someone did some thorough tests of different SSDs, different PCIe cards and the synthetic benchmarks. And concluded there was no real difference to the system and work load whether the system was on SATA2, but could be work performance using PCIE for other uses.
Generally I find this to be helpful start: www.macperformanceguide.com on perfomance
Putting scratch and graphic libraries for Aperture/Lightroom and others on a SSD and on a separarte bus helped. Even helps having iPhoto on SSD and the photo library folder on another drive - so you aren't read and write to same.
SoftRAID 4 - using 3 drives in a mirror but it uses "stripped reads" seems like it is fast, simple, less overhead and most people just never get idea of using more than two drives in a mirror, but it works great and makes it easy to pull one for backup. SoftRAID also does a better threaded background rebuild, and during idle time scans its drives for errors and bad or weak sectors. A lifesaver.
Even using the optical bay for the system might be perfect and then using the Tempo Pro for other uses.
With system's and SSD's and stripped, then of course a couple restore images and run DU against the array with TRIM enabled on a weekly basis, something, especially if the array is getting hammered as scratch. Tests though show those SSDs can take huge TBs of punishment day after day, but I have seen my own and read of too many errors.

  • How to confirm object has been pinned into exadata flash cache

    Hi ,
Just wanted to confirm , if object has been pinned into flash cache
    SQL>  select segment_name,cell_flash_cache from user_segments where cell_flash_cache='KEEP';
    no rows selected
    SQL> alter table scott.emp storage(cell_flash_cache keep);
    Table altered.
    SQL> select * from scott.emp;
    SQL> select segment_name,cell_flash_cache from user_segments where cell_flash_cache='KEEP';
    no rows selected.

As the author of the mentioned blog post, I should add a point of clarification:  unlike a shared-pool pin, setting cell_flash_cache to KEEP merely prioritizes the object for flash cache usage.  It's still possible to have all or some of the object on disk based on read patterns.  Prior to storage server 11.2.3.3.0 it was necessary to use KEEP for non-full scans to populate the cache, but that's no longer the case.  Since that change I've run into very few situations where CELL_FLASH_CACHE KEEP was required;  mostly the storage server does the right thing on its own.
    Hope this helps!

  • PWM Fan for P7N Diamond

I was thinking to swap my "Scythe S-FLEX 1600RPM Ultra Quiet" fan that is currently pushing some air through my Thermalright Ultra Extreme to some 120 PWM fan. I don't actually want to replace it, I was more thinking to keep that Scythe to use it with a push & pull method on my TRUE 120 (PWM to push and regular one to pull). But before I do that I have few questions:
    1) Is there any actual difference between regular fan & PWM fan by that I mean performance / efficiency / energy wise? Is there any benefit?
    2) Will I somehow be able to control both of those fans, (I wouldn't want to have them on full speed at all times)
    3) With which PWM fan should I got with?
I did find few quite promising fans. Maybe someone has more experience with them? Anyway here they are:
Nexus 120mm PWM Silent Case Fan more details from here http://www.nexustechnologyusa.com/c/ntusa/nexus_pwm_fan_120.html
Scythe 120mm "KAMA PWM" Fan more details from here http://www.scythe-usa.com/product/acc/020/dfspwm_detail.html
Arctic Cooling 120mm AF12025 PWM more details from here http://www.arctic-cooling.com/fans2.php?idx=108&data=6&disc=
With the "Kama PWM" I would have to do some customisation as it has closed corners. The other 2 seem to have a open corners. I really wouldn't like to bother with that Schyte but if its best of those three I would buy that one.
All ideas and thoughts are appreciated

The thumb of airflow rule is to maintain a good balance of air (cfm) flowing in and out.
This is to say that if you have a fan that is capable of pushing in 30cfm of air into the system, the balance point is to have a fan that is capable of pulling similar amount or slightly higher amount of air out of the system, example 30cfm ~ 35cfm. You must not have overflow of cfm flowing into the system as this will cause warm air to circulate and stuck in the system. The same goes for the amount of air being pulled out as the system will be vaccumed in a way if there's not enough ventilating holes for air to flow in quickly.
Just rememeber that the cfm demand for both inlet and exhaust fans must be maintain at good level. Next will be the cooling circumference and fins. Wider circumference will help to spread the airflow to the hardwares within the system, and well designed fins will help in creating less decibels while maintaining good airflow cfm.
