PCUI/BSP  vs JAVA iviews?

Hi
I installed business package for crm and i am planning to develop some new iviews. Rightnow I am confused to decide on whether to develop the iviews in java or in PCUI/BSP?
could some one please let me know what is the criteria to decide which one should i use?
For ex: why did SAP choose com.sap.pct.crm.mkt.Calendar (Marketing calendar) iview to be developed in java, why not use pcui/bsp as used for most of other iViews in the business package?
Please help me in this regard.
Regards

Hi Hendrik,
BSP application will be little harder to migrate to different platforms like Web App Server for Java...etc and look & feel is not considered as the greatest.  Where as Java iViews are portable, extendable, migratable and look & feel is quite good.  Last but not least, I believe that Java iViews go well with Enterprise Portal rather than BSP.
You can choose between Java or BSP based on the resources you have to develop apps and your need i.e. the goal of the application.
I am sorry to say that I dont know the answer for your last question.  Below you will find some links which might be useful for deciding between Java and BSP.

  • PCUI: Authorization for Links in Java iViews (Favorites)

    Hello,
when I copy one of the roles delivered with CRM, modify and use it, there will be no hyperlinks shown in the so called 'Favorite' iViews (Java iViews) - e.g. 'My Favorites: Opportunities'.
When I add SAP_ALL to the test user hyperlinks will be shown.
Does anybody know which authorizations (RFC,...) I have to add in 'PFCG' to get hyperlinks working for Java iViews?
    Thank you
    Robert

    Hello Gregor,
basically I did a trial'n'error approach. Added all roles and removed all roles via manual "BinarySearch" until I got a working role (-set). Mostly there are "*" entries in SAP standard roles for RFC calls.
Unfortunately I got your answer when I had already a working role. I agree, your way would be the correct way of minimizing number of autohorization entries in a role. Maybe I would have saved lots of time also...
    Thank you so far.

  • Ep6.0 How to differentiate a Java Iview  from other Iview

    Hi,
I would like to know how to recognize a Java Iview in the PCD? I would like to open up an Iview and want to understand whether it's and Java iview or others, I know about bsp, urs, wingui etc..
Also once I know that, how do I get to see the code behind that Iview, if I need to change etc..
Also is changing the "cache level" to 'Shared' for bringing in efficiency in the memory use is considered a modification? Currently the 'Cache Level' of some of the iview for one perticular apps is set as 'None'  Is there any other way to do it ?
    Arunava

    Hi Arunava,
still, the answer stays the same: <i>You cannot determine if the content is provided in Java or in fact in some backend system <b>generically</b> by looking at the properties.</i>
What does that mean: If you know for some special case that the existance of a certain property means that this iView is served by a BSP for example, then you know this. But in general, a property is a property is a property, and all properties are in first place used by the java implementation - maybe to be passed through to a backend system.
In my first answer in this thread, I gave complete instructions hwo to find out which java class is called when calling an iView. Always it's in first place a java class.
Hope it helps to understand why it's impossible to generically determine by properties where the business logic in fact is implemented.

  • Java-iViews-Errors in BP for CRM

After importing BP 6.0 for CRM 4.0, the Java iViews (e.g. Today's Activities or My Tasks) don't work. Instead we get an error like this:
    Portal Runtime Error
An exception occurred while processing a request for :
    iView : N/A
    Component Name : N/A
    com/sap/pct/crm/generics/context/CRMContextException.
    Exception id: 08:52_11/10/04_0004
See the details for the exception ID in the log file
The WAS and ITS iViews of the BP are running fine and the import log of the BP says the iViews are correctly installed.
Is there something wrong with the JCO?

    Hi Marko,
I don't know the BP, but this exception clearly states that within the method <i>getPage</i> within the class <i>ListPortalComponent</i> a <i>CRMContextException</i> is referenced (probably should be thrown), which in fact does not exist within the classpath.
<i>If</i> I would have the BP at hand (and you have, that's your advantage), just check if the class exists. If not, you could try a workaround and check the cause for the exception, if you achieve that it should not be thrown, the JVM won't complain...
Is the BP delivered within one or within several PAR's? If it takes several PAR's, maybe <i>CRMContextException</i> is in one, <i>ListPortalComponent</i> in another PAR and no SharingReference could be set (but I wouldn't call this very probable for the common package <i>com/sap/pct/crm/generics</i>; nevertheless, it's an idea).
Just try to analyze around this...
    Hope it helps

  • Cannot download or view the attachments from PCUI BSP appliations in portal

    Hello,
We are not able to view or download the attachments uploaded into any of the PCUI BSP applications called in portal. Initially we were not able to upload to but activating the services for the PCUI applications made it work, I am not sure if the download is supposed to work with the same service activation. Any help on this is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Sreekanth Katanguri.

    Hi Sreekanth,
After uploading the document through PCUI, can you download/ view the document in Backend (in CRM System) through the transaction.... I mean through SAP GUI... If yes than the application is working fine at PCUI level.... Please test at the backend.
After upload at PCUI, if you can downlaoad at SAP GUI (in backend), than I think you need to do some IMG config. So please check the respective attachment's field group entries.
Let me know if you can see the document at backend and than most probably its a config issue, where in you need to make the field changeable. Also pls tell the application name/ tab name (where the Attachment tab is) and I will try to figure out.
    Thanks

  • How to send/set parameter from BSP page to iview

    Dear Expert,
Can advise me how to send or set parameter from BSP page to iview ?
    http://xxx.xxx.com/irj/portal?navigationtarget=roles://pcd:portal_content/FLD.ObjetLibrary/FLD.Iviews/FLD.CRM/ET/bsppage.htm?lv_param=xxx
I want to view my bsp page in portal but with parameter value.
I can open my bsp page without parameter value like link below :
    http://xxx.xxx.com/irj/portal?navigationtarget=roles://pcd:portal_content/FLD.ObjetLibrary/FLD.Iviews/FLD.CRM/ET/
    Thnx & Regards,
    Pieter

    Hi,
your BSP page get's integrated via an iFrame. So, simply speaking, it's not possible to pass an parameter back.
But what you can try is to use the Portal DataBag component. In the BSP page, store the information you want to pass in the browser. The iView/Portal than has to check if there is a new parameter / value stored.

  • WD Java iView & Dynamic Navigation Problem

    Hi,
I'm trying to use a WebDynpro Java iView in Dynamic Navigation but have the following display problem:
When I navigate to the page for which I've added the iView to the dynamic navigation, only the WebDynpro iView (from the navigation) is shown. You can see the page in its correct form being loaded but as soon as the navigation iView seems to be loaded/ing it replaces the full lower part of the screen (navigation and content panel).
If I use a plain URL iView in the dynamic navigation the behaviour is as expected.
But if I add a WebDynpro iView or even a page containing that iView I get the strange behaviour again.
    I'm running NW04s SP7.
    Any ideas?
Do I have to set some properties on the WebDynpro iView?
I've tried a couple of things but none did work so far.
    Thanks & Regards
    Markus

    Hi Henrik,
Sorry for the late reply but I'm just back from vacation.
No, I have not found a solution. I decided to go for an integrated application instead (Main WD application that bundles navigation with other applications). That works but of course is not as "nice".
Have you come across some solution yet?
    Kind Regards

  • WD Java iView Creation Question/Issue - CE 7.1 EHP 1 Trial

    Hi all,
Im posting this question here seeing as that the issue has arrised on an installation of the AS JAVA and EP shipped with CE 7.1 EHP1 Trial.
When attempting to create an iView for a deployed custom WD Java app on the trial Portal I am taken straight to the iView template selection without being given the options for iView creation( ie. create from template, portal component or WD Java app). Is this by design ( WD Java iView creation has changed from previous Portal versions or is limited in Trial installation), is this an issue with the components shipped with the Trial or an issue on my installation only?
Currently my only solution for deploying WD java content is to copy the actual application and paste it as Portal content which then creates a WD Proxy page with a single WD Proxy iView (that of the copy pasted WD app). This is fine for single app scenarios but becomes an issue with multiple apps on one page and drag and relate scenarios.
    Kind regards,
    Willem.

    Hi Williem
Please check the SAP CE 7.1 EHP1 documentation for more information.

  • WD Java iView not opening in Safari

    Hi All,
    System: EP6.0
I have a WD Java iView in portal that opens fine with IE and Mozilla but shows a blank view on Safari.
The same application when viewed directly via link http://<HOST>:<PORT>/webdynpro/dispatcher is also displayed properly
    on Safari.
We know that Safari is not the recomended browser etc. but still if the application can be viewed from the above link
there must be something on portal framework that prevents the WD app to be displayed.
    Please share your thoughts.
    Thanks
    Avinash

If I recall correctly, I have seen this behavior once using Safari on SAP EP 6.40...
Could you try to set your WD iView isolation method to URL instead of Embedded?
Since the portal uses some additional scripting (EPCM etc) and CSS styling, changing the isolation method might help
    Hope this helps,

  • Java Iview Runtime error after logon

    Hello,
we are facing some problem regarding our EP 7.0 SP13. We have an anonymous page as our home page, with some anonymous ivews, like "help", "news", etc and one iview with authentication set to default where users log into the portal and access to the private section of the portal.
That ivew does a redirection to /irj/portal and since the user is athenticated it will led him to the private home. The problem is that after logon, a Java iview runtime error appears, and users must refresh the browser to access the private section. (user is logged before the error appears).
We have checked this is not happening with users with "super admin" o "content admin" role. They are able to log into the portal, and redirection is working fine. So we think there can be some problem with security zones or authentication somewhere in the portal, but since this is the standard logon component i don´t know why is this not working.
We have checked that the redirection is working, and we have made some tests with different kind of iviews like KM iviews, URL iviews, pictures, etc. Only admin users are able to log in correctly, the others get the java iview runtime error, so we think the problem is with to standard logon...
Here goes a trace of our problem (defaultrace.trc):

can anyone help us with this problem?
    Thanks in advance

The problem was solved, it was a permission problem.
The anonymous role which allow access to the anonymous section of the portal was assigned to anonymous user, but it hasn´t everyone permission. So anonymous users were able to see anonymous pages, but when they login they lose the role, and java iview error happened, unless they had admin rights.
Solved assigned by assigning everyone to that role.
    Thanks

    Hi Gurus,
I Need to default dates based on appraisal model selected in Java Iview MboStatusApp in MSS->Team->Performance Managemeent->Update Appraisals of reportees->Status overview .
In this iview we have drop down with list of appraisal models along with the validity period(Start and end date)
Trails Made : HRPDV00APPRAISAL0001 - I made an implementation for this BADI along with the iview settings at
self services - > Use Evaluation Period for Employee Selection set to 'NO'.
But when i tried to run the iview after implementation of BADI , i see there is no execution of BADI .
My Basic requirement is when manager select any appraisal model say 2009 's appraisal model then dates must be as

    hi Prashant,
    Thanks for your reply.
I am able to see the Iview with all the components(textfield, buttons).
But the image is not displayed. and I am not able to check whether the connectivity is been established.
    in this part of code
    text = new TextView("fgfdg"+Str);
I am assigning the value of "Str", which i get from R/3 to "text",
but in the iview the value of "Str" is not displayed.

  • Java iview htmlb & jco question

    hello all,
I am writing an Java iView to pull some data from an
R/3 table & displaying that as a LINE chart.
I've already got the portion of getting data from R/3
by creating a shim function that returns the table.
Now i want to display that using htmlb.Chart
I can seet the JCO.Table as my JCOChartModel easily enough
however the Table returns to me multiple rows
(data that will be used elsewhere) but there are only
two rows i want to use as the source for the Chart.
Is there any way to limit the Chart to those two rows
or do i need to (in my opinion wastefully) create
a Vector and duplicate the data from those two
    rows to use for Chart?

    Hi Srivatsan,
I need to write a java iview to pull some data from an R3 table.  But I dont know how :S
I did something with jco in EP 5, but now with EP 6 I'm confused with the term JCA.
What do you do to connect to R3 ?  Could you share your code ?
Thanks and regards from Mexico !!!
