PDF binary variable won't save in Oracle blob

I am reading in a small, legitimate PDF as a binary variable and them immediately saving that variable into a blob. But the blob doesn't store the data.
<cffile action="readbinary" file="C:\Test_Files\test.pdf" variable="testdoc">
now shows isbinary(testdoc) = YES
In fact, I can output to the screen using cfcontent, and it displays fine.
But if I try to save the testdoc variable to an Oracle blob, CF seems to think it is trying to insert an empty variable.
<cfquery name="ins" datasource="#request.a_datasource#">
INSERT
INTO PROD_WCT.T_DOCS (
PDF_BLOB
VALUES (
<cfqueryparam value="#testdoc#" cfsqltype="CF_SQL_BLOB">
Now if I retrieve that row (query name=”get_pdf”) and check the value, it appears empty:
now shows isbinary(get_pdf.pdf_blob) = NO
Nothing is done in betweent the cffile and the insert. Any ideas?

Just an update here to note that this problem has not yet been resolved.
This could be in incompatibility between Oracle 10g BLOBs and Coldfusion 8.
To review, my BLOB setting in CFADMIN is enabled. To make this as simple and possible, I created a PDF from the words "Test text," so the PDF document can't get much smaller. The PDF does save to the BLOB, because in TOAD I can save the BLOB contents to a file and view it as a PDF just fine. It's when I retrieve the record in CF8 where the trouble arises. Coldfusion 8 doesn't get anything from the BLOB. It has a zero length, and isbinary = NO. We are using Oracle 10g. And using CF8. My understanding is that an Oracle blob uses pointers to locate the blob data in an area external to the database. Apparently, Coldfusion cannot retrieve the data. The process worked for the first few records when retrieving a blob and displaying it with cfcontent, but after a few records it can no longer retrieve the subsequent blob records. It just abruptly fails at that point. But again, the PDF binary data is there in TOAD.
Could this be a bug or incompatibility with Oracle 10g? We are a state government, and it sure would help if the Adobe people could give come help here.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

  • Itunes won't download, binary file won't save to computer.

Every time I click on the "Download Now" button, I am able to select what folder I want to download the binary file to.
Once I click save, nothing else happens. I am taken to the "Thank you for downloading itunes" screen, but there is no record of my download anywhere, and the file is simply not saving.

So weird...I don't know why so many folks have this problem. Why won't the silly file download from Apple? When I click "save file" absolutely nothing happens. A dialogue box should pop up asking me where to save it.
My solution was to finally download it from one of the many file servers. I used one called "filehorse" and it downloaded right away.
How can one use their nifty iOS device if they can't install itunes on their computer?!
I tried the recommended "fixes", one of which included deleting the "temp" folder (which was not so easy to delete, required booting to safe mode command prompt) but made no difference. This was all using Firefox. IE is the only other browser on my computer, which seems to be permanently broken (most sites do not show properly even after using IE's "reset" feature).
I refuse to install Chrome, I tried it once and it sucked. Hopefully Apple will fix this silly issue so that next time I need to download iTunes, I can do it. Thank you!

HP Officejet Pro  8600 won't save scanned document in searchable PDF or .rtf format
The scanner scans the document without a problem but when I select 'SAVE' and
specify a location and file name, a system error 'The HP scan application was
unable to save the file to the specified location'.  It will save a regular PDF file
or a  JPG file with no problem, but trying to save an searchable PDF or .rtf file
results in the above mentioned system error.
This problem occurs either from HP SCAN or from the 8600 scan panel.
The computer is running Windows XP and the I.R.I.S. OCR software is
    loaded.

    Hello TrailsEnd,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're receiving an error message "The HP scan application was unable to save the file to the specified location". I will do my best to assist you!
First, I would recommend downloading this tool called the Print and Scan Doctor. This tool diagnoses and helps resolve common printing, scanning, and connectivity problems, including: (This information is stated here.)
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test : Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check : Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager : Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online : Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue : Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match : Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts : Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues : Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings : Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print : Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests : Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Let me know if this tool fixes a scanning problem on this post. If this doesn't resolve your issue, then I am going to recommend uninstalling the software. Please follow this HP document on Uninstalling the Printer Software.
Once this is complete, you can perform a clean boot on your computer. I will provide a Microsoft document here to help you. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update or when you run a program. Now, you can install the full feature software from the HP website here.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!

  • Samsung 1630w won't save as pdf

After all the hassles with 10.5 and an hp1012, I just got a Samsung ML1630W. It is wireless, set up with airport (11g) no problems. But it won't save as pdf (in print). It says go to file>save. I hate to jinks a new printer that works, but it seems apple released samsung drivers when leopard came out. I was wondering if this might work. I think this printer is a newer model, though. Any ideas or work arounds.

Oh, probably just a distiller hiccup. Glad to hear it works now. I have had my share of Adobe background processes problems, too, and I wouldn't have thought to reboot right away either. Make sure to mark this question 'answered' when you get a chance.

  • Acrobat won't save any more links in a PDF. Why?

I am adding links to a PDF file. I have done several, including the index of the file. Acrobat won't save any more though. Why?

    Sara,
The Save As allows me to save the changes, but the regular save will still not function. I seem to recall a similar issue with the last version of this document, with a similar number of links.
    Thanks,

  • PDF won't save to computer

I download several financial statements in PDF each month and two of them, though enabled, will not allow themselves to be saved to my computer. They can be viewed, printed and edited but clicking on the save icon does nothing. The'Save to:' pop-up does not appear. I'm running Windows 7 x64 and have the most current version of reader (9.4.1). Has anyone seen this before???

    Hi,
Yes indeed, we have the same issue. After further research, I ran across this workaround that worked for me. Of course it does not solve the Adobe problem, but it does allow for saving a PDF that does not want to be saved while opened in IE (I’m using 8). Here is a copy of the workaround.
Of course the question remains – what is the problem and why do we have to use this workaround – very strange. Must be a compatibility issue with certain website, win 7, IE 8 and Adobe. The problem site for me was Chase.com. I called their online rep and they had know ideas.  Hope the workaround works for you.
Here is the link where I found the workaround.

    Hey Reepercheep,
Just a note...  I have been experiencing this problem with one of my accounts since back in Reader version 8.x. The second account only started paperless before Christmas. I was willing to put up with it from one group but two with the same problem broke the camel's back (it started to become a trend!). Hopefully someone has found the magic bullit to solve this. Cheers

  • Adobe Reader Version 11.0.10 won't save pdf file as original file name

We are currently using Adobe Reader Version 11.0.10.
When we open and existing pdf file then make any changes (using the Fill & Sign Tab at the top right hand side) then click Save it won't save the file.  We have to re-name the file in order to save it.
This was working ok back in January and wondered if there has been an up-date since then that has made this error occur?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.  We have tried that but it has not made any difference.  Adobe still requires a new file name to save the file.

  • I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.

I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week, Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.
The file name has no special character in it, just letters and no spaces.
I have done this in the past and it has worked, but now it will not.
I have not upgraded any software, that I am aware of.
After scanning, the Image Capture pops up the Scan Results with the file name in the window, but neither the Scan Results nor the Image Capture window responds to inputs.  The Image Capture window is frozen, with only the "Overview" and "Cancel" buttons active (but non-responsive).
Is this a software issue or a scanner hardware issue?  I am using a HP Photosmart C6200 series printer/scanner on a network using a Time Capsule airport.
    Thanks.

    I had the same problem.
Got a 90% fix.  Apparently the Mavericks preferences won't work with Yosemite, so I just deleted the Image Capture preferences.
Unfortunately, the "Scan to" folder seems to be permanently set to the Pictures folder.
    1.  Quit Image Capture
    2.  Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)
    3.  Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash
    4.  Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer
    5.  Quit and restart "Image Capture".   Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder.  It insists on saving to "Pictures".
That's as far as I was successful.  I tried changing the "Scan to" folder to "Desktop", but on launch, Image Capture always sets it back to "Pictures".
    This is what I tried:
    6.  Download and install "Pref Setter" from http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
    7.  Quit "Image Capture".  Right-click on "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist" and open with Pref Setter.
    8.  Search for "Pictures", which finds "~/Pictures" (the tilde character at the start means your home directory).
    9.  Double-click on "~/Pictures" and change it to the folder you prefer.  I like "~/Desktop"
    10. Choose File > Save then Quit from Pref Setter.  Note that re-opening the plist file still shows "~/Desktop"
    11. Start up "Image Capture" -- on startup, "Image Capture" sets "Scan to" folder to "Pictures"
    I consider this a bug.

My safari won't let me view a pdf link, nor can I save it as a document. How can I view these pdfs and links?

Have you installed Adobe Reader and its associated plugin? AFAIK, that's the preferred if not the only way to open PDFs in an embedded view within Safari.

  • Form Fields won't save when coworker saves PDF file

I am on Acrobat pro (mac osx), my coworker is on Acrobat Reader 9 (pc, XP). I made some form fields in a PDF file and saved it. Everytime she changes some of the text in the fields and tries to save it won't save the stuff she entered. Everytime she opens it, it contains my orignal field data.
What steps do I need to take to make it to where she can enter in her own text and save without losing data.

You need to Reader-enable the form. If you have Acrobat 10, select: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features

  • Acrobat v9.3.2 Won't Save PDF Files On W7 64 Bit

I have a dilemma that needs to be solved.  I have a new Windows 7 64 bit system with several terabytes of legal documents stored locally, mostly in PDF.  After loading Adobe Acrobat Standard v9.3.2 I find that while I can open PDF documents, I can only save edits/highlights/comments only once.  However on all subsequent edits and save attempts Adobe delivers the message:
"The document could not be saved.  The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open.  Please save the document with a different name or in a different folder".  I no for a fact that the file is not open elsewhere and if I view the security properties of the file it does not show as read-only.  If I save the document with a new file name it behaves correctly just once, then begins delivering the same error message as the original PDF on all subsequent saves.
In addition to the built-in Windows accounts there is only one user account on the W7 system, it has password protection and administrative privileges.  The PDF files that cannot be saved are all owned by this account and the account presumably has "full privileges".  Further, the PDF documents themsvelves have "no security" and allow for editing/highlighting/commenting.  It is important to add that many of the same PDF documents I'm trying to edit were easily edited and saved on a previous 32 bit Windows XP Pro system which this sytem replaced.  Moreover, on a seperate 32 bit Windows 7 laptop and the 32 bit Adobe Acrobat Standard v9.3.2. these same PDF files stored on a network drive have no difficulty performing all the edit and save functions.  However, if a sample PDF document stored on the local drive of the 64 bit W7 system is shared and accessed directly by the 32 bit W7 laptop system, the laptop/Adobe Standard will deliver the same error trying to editing and save the image stored on the 64 bit Windows 7 system.
I have tried running Acrobat on the 64 bit W7 desktop as "administrator" but the problem persisted.
My Acrobat Standard indicates there are no updates available.
I've pretty much exhausted everything I know to look for and I am stuck.
I hope someone can offer some insight to this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sandy

I believe I may have found the problem and potential fix or workaround for the problem described in my original post.
Windows 7 has a feature in Windows Explorer that will if enabled show a file preview image in the rightmost pane when a file is selected or moused-over.  If one selects an Abobe PDF document to launch Adobe Acrobat will launch in a seperate window while the Windows Explorer pane will show a thumbnail sized image of the first page of the PDF document in the Windows Explorer pane.  The explorer window may even be behind the Acrobat application so once one is looking at the full document in Acrobat they may not even notice the thumbnail image in Windows Explorer.
On my setup, when this would happen I could edit a PDF document and save the PDF only once, but any further save would fail. Apparently the thumbnail in Windows Explorer is enough to make Acrobat believe the file is already open, or open by another user.
One workaround is that once Adobe Acrobat is launched explicitly look for and close the Windows Explorer showing the PDF thumbnail.  One might also accomplish the same by moving the mouse over a different file so the thumbnail of the open PDF is not showing, or to turn off the preview function in Windows 7 Explorer altogether.  I haven't yet tried the latter.
Acrobat is the only application on my W7 Pro system that doesn't play well with Windows preview mode.  My MS Office apps have no difficulty saving even while showing thumbnails in the preview pane.
I hope this might be helpful to anyone else experiencing this problem.

  • Anytime I click on a .pdf I am asked to save the document rather than allowing me to just view it.

Anytime I click on a link to a .pdf I am asked to save the document. I would like to simply view most. I have been unable to determine how to change this. I am not sure whether it is a setting in Firefox, Acrobat, or my system. In the dialogue box that asks whether I would like to open or save the file, I had checked the box indicating that the files should always be opened, but this did not happen. It kept asking whether to "open file" or "save file." Then I had a file I wanted to save, so I clicked that radio button and saved that file. Now, it will no longer allow me to open files.
    Thanks for your help...

Please update to the most recent version of Firefox:
*[[Update Firefox to the latest version]]
[[How to fix preferences that won't save]] or reset the saved setting in the Applications panel-> [[Applications panel - Set how Firefox handles different types of files]]
    Or set it as default:
In order to change the default reader for PDF files (to not open PDF files with Firefox's internal PDF reader), follow these steps:
#Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and click Options (Preferences for Linux and Mac).
#In the Options (Preferences for Linux and Mac) window, select the ''Applications'' panel.
#In the ''Search'' field, type ''PDF''. You should find ''Portable Document Format (PDF)''.
#On the right hand side you should find an ''Action'' column. Use that to select your favorite PDF reader. In order to view PDF files in Firefox, choose ''Preview in Firefox''.
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

  • InDesign CC for Mac won't save file

I've been using InDesign CC and working on a document for over a month. Been saving it in Creative Cloud. Have had no problem opening it, making changes and then saving it. Today I opened, made changes and the file will not save. I've tried saving it down and opening in Indesign 6 and it still won't save. I also cleared InDesign preferences and reinstalled InDesign. Still won't save when I open it up. The strange part is I'm able to open on another computer through Creative Cloud and am able to work on it and save back to Creative Cloud. No matter what I do I can't open and then save on the original computer.

Finally discovered the problem. It was a PDF of an ad I received from an agency. Once I took it out of the document I was able to save as usual. Thanks for your help!

  • Possibility to give a pdf a variable when opening?

Is it possible to give a PDF a variable. The problem is:
I want to call a pdf with a url from webbrowser. When it opens it should import a xfdf or xml-file. I'm searching for a way to tell the pdf which file to import. I thought about a param in the url but I think it's not possible. Is it possible to put a javascript in an pdf which can read a cookie in which the path to the xml-file is? Is there another way to tell a pdf file in the moment when it is opend which xml file it should import??

Try the following to capture the URL and then build your logic based on the value.
    var cURL
    cURL = this.baseURL
    xfa.host.messageBox(cURL)
this is a JavaScript function may used in form:ready event. If you get the value displayed you can save it and use. I have no similar environment to test this myself. Please let me know how that works.

  • Watermark source file won't save in settings

I have successfully created several watermark images that have source files (both in PDF format and JPG format). But there is one that I cannot get to save. I have tried the image in both JPG and PDF formats, but for whatever reason, when I try to save the settings, the source file is not saved and it just comes up as blank text when I select it for use. I have tried over and over again to save this watermark.
As a result, whenever I want to apply this particular watermark, I have to go and browse for and find the file time and time again.
?? Any clue as to why this one won't save? Is there a maximum number of watermarks that can be saved?

You can look at the place where the settings are saved.
For Acrobat 8 and MS Vista the place is:
    X:\Users\{user}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Acrobat\8.0\Preferences\Watermark
