PDF conversion on-the-fly

Hi all,
I'm investigating a website project where the requirement is
to provide the ability to upload PDF documents and display them in
Flash. I know that this kind of thing has been done with these
'page-flip' hosted systems, but this is somewhat different. I am
guessing, although I'm not certain, that the way to do this is to
use FlashPaper to convert the PDF on-the-fly to SWF's which can
then be loaded into the Flash, Flex or whatever application. I
don't really know the mechanics of setting up FlashPaper on a
remote server to do this though, can anyone offer some advice?
Thanks in advance!
Kevin

It sounds like you want to use Acrobat as a web service. Rather than pursue this route, you may want to note that such a use of Acrobat is not permitted under the license. Thus it may not worth pursuing. Why convert to HTML is a possible question anyway, at least on a regular basis? On occasions I can understand the need.
For programmable features you should probably check in the SDK forum.

  • Generate & Export PDF/CSV on the fly without holding entire contents in mem

    Hello Everyone,
We are using Crystal Reports JRC (in our server side application. In a typical use-case the generated report is exported into the pdf/csv format and streamed to the client/browser.
My question is with regards to the current interface/implementation of the JRC export api(s), which returns an InputStream which is basically a ByteArrayInputStream?, Why ByteArrayInputStream ? why not a custom InputStream imeplementation which really benefits from the streaming approach, and give you the option to stream the contents as they are generated on the fly, instead of it holding the entire report contents in a byte-array, as is the case with using ByteArrayInputStream. Since, this often seems to choke our system with regards to memory footprint, when the generated report contains huge dataset.
Please comment? Is that not possible ? Is there any reason why ByteArrayInputStream is the only way to retrieve the report contents ?
    Thanks,
    Farhan.

  • Can CF8 create pdf's on the fly?

For example I want to create pdf's that render different information based on the user.
I have a 2 page set pdf that all users will see, but I want the info that populates the right column on first page to be dynamic based on the user.
Only the right column on the first page is dynamic and is based on the user , everything else would be the same.
Its kind of like using a cfinclude on a regular cf page.
Does this same kind of logic apply to creating PDF's?

Yes, CF 8 has several functions that allow for the dynamic creation of PDF documents.  The documentation had all the details.

  • Printing Multiple PDF documents on the fly

    Hello all,
I am looking for a solution for printing the documents to a PDF file. My requirement is that from the application, I can select a set of documents (say 50 numbers) and give for print. The program is in MS access. The MS access opens the report required for generating the documents, pulls the data from the database and generated the document. this will in turn go to a default printer set on the application server. The program repeats for all the 50 dcouments and prints each of them in paper.
All I need know is instaed of printing, all the documents should get mergerd to a single PDF file. Once all the documents are merged I can give it an appropritae name and save it.
Do let us know this is possible by installing a PDF printer driver from adobe on the application server. Will it automatically convert all the prints given at one go to a PDF file or any change in code is required to do it.
    Regards
    Cherian

FYI, when you use the Adobe PDF Print driver that comes with Acrobat, the PDF Producer won't say "Adobe PDF Converter".
When using the Adobe PDF Print driver, you should see:
    Application: Pscript5.dll 5.x.x
    PDF Producer: Acrobat Distiller X.x.x
If your document says "Adobe PDF Converter" then it was created by 3rd party software, most likely this package:
    http://www.clicktoconvert.com/pages/adobe_pdf_converter/index.htm
That is NOT Adobe software.  Please clarify what version of Reader/Acrobat you are using so that we can properly help you.  If you need help with your 3rd party PDF print driver, you should contact the company that developed it.

  • Turkish Character 'u0130' giving space during PDF conversion of the smartforms

    Hi,
I have a PO form in turkish language , which is converted into pdf file.
When we take the print of the PO form the all the turkish are displayed correctly.
But when the same form is converted into pdf , then only for the turkish character 'İ' there is a space after each time it is displayed in pdf. All other turkish caracters are being displayed correctly.
For example : for " TEDARİKÇİADRESİ"  in pdf it comes as "TEDARİ KÇİ ADRESİ ".
Note : the device driver is installed correctly as per the OSS notes and all other turkish character is coming correctly as expected.

    Hi Adrian,
Yes the basis team  did installed the window type fonts as mentioned in the OSS notes.
All the other turkish characted are being displayed correctly apart from this chracter. that too only in PDF.

  • Producing PDF files on the fly

I'm on a team of three developers. Unfortunately, all are novice level. We need to create PDF reports from data retrieved from the database. We are already displaying this information in a JSP page. I know there are some options out there. We just don't understand how to start. Anyone care to tutor me on this?

I dont know what you mean with tutor, but:
    (1) Generate XML from the data in the database.
    (2) Use XSL to transform your XML into XML-FO.
    (3) Use FOP to transform XML-FO into PDF.
    (4) Use a servlet (not a JSP) and write the bytes of the PDF to the response outputstream.

  • Acrobat 9 HTML to PDF conversion sets all checkboxes to checked?

When I convert an HTML file that contains checkboxes to PDF using Acrobat 9 Standard or Pro (fully updated) on Windows XP SP3, all of the checkboxes end up checked in the resulting PDF.  I've looked in settings menus but can't find anything that seems to be a relevant option to prevent this from happening.  I've attached a simple test case .html file to this post that you can use to repeat the problem.
To convert the file, I right-click on the file in Windows Explorer, and click Convert to Adobe PDF.  I've tried "printing" the document to the Adobe PDF printer, but that introduces other issues and is not really an acceptable solution.
Has anyone encountered this before, and/or have ideas how to fix it?

Input elements have no such inheritance on the checked attribute.  Furthermore, the input elements in my test case are not grouped together.  They are each encapsulated within separate list item elements, and so no inheritance should take place after the first input element.
Just for grins, I changed the order of the elements (moved the checked one below the unchecked one), but that did not make any difference in the Acrobat 9 HTML to PDF conversion.
I did test this with Acrobat 8 Standard, and the HTML to PDF conversion preserved the correct checked status of the input elements.  It looks to me like this is a bug that was introduced in Acrobat 9.

  • Web pages missing from PDF conversion of my website

The top page of my website has an expander list with links to subpages. When I convert my site to PDF, Acrobat skips those subpages. The expander list is closed during PDF conversion, so the links are not visible preventing Acrobat from "seeing" these subpages.
How can I make Acrobat "see" these pages?

In WORD try these for comparison: 1. Print to the Adobe PDF printer and 2. Use the Adobe menu to convert to PDF (this is PDF Maker). There are possibly 2 conversion to PDF processes in the file menu. One is equivalent to PDF Maker (Save As Adobe PDF) and the other is the MS conversion to PDF (Save As PDF or XPS).
One additional issue you may run into (since you mentioned page numbers) is a change in formating when creating the PDF. To avoid this change, be sure the Adobe PDF printer is selected in the print menu before editing the DOC file. Another option is to make the Adobe PDF printer the default.

  • PDF conversion from Word - WMF display

I have created a PDF from a word document. It has WMFs inserted in the document using BuildBetter WMF.  The document displays correctly in word.  I have used the preset of "high quality" on the PDF conversion.  The document print quality is correct but I am having difficulty seeing the WMF drawing when displayed on the computer.  If I zoom in I can see the drawing fine.  Obviously it is a pixel problem.  How can I fix this?

You should be able to print to the Adobe PDF printer, but nothing else probably will work with OFFICE 2010 as Adobe told you. You probably can just wait until AA10. There are no current expectations of AA9 being updated to work with OFFICE 2010 (at least the PDF Maker part.).

  • XML to PDF conversion of large catalogue

I have a bunch of xml content on my website which refer to items being sold. Each item has various spec and description entries. The website is regularly updated but the printed product catalogue is not(it's created separately using adobe indesign)
So I want to be able to do 2 things:
    1. create parts of the catalogue in pdf format on the fly on the website. (The catalogue layout, page numbers and index page is important to be correct)
    2. create the whole catalogue from my xml data, in PDF format ready to be printed.
Has anyone done anything similar to this?
How should I go on about doing this?

It is converting doc files to pdf but the images under doc files are not displayed in the generated pdf files. I've also tried itext but it is unable to convert doc files to pdf. It only works for txt, gif, jpg files.
Do let be know if any one has any alternative for this. I also need to convert dwg(AutoCad) files to pdf. My environment is Linux ES4, Webshpere6.0, MySql4.0 with jsp, servlets as scripting language.

  • How can I change the app that a .pdf attachment opens in on the fly w/o using Preference Pane?

I have the need to open some .pdf attachments in firefox (24) and some in Skim, pdf reader. I understand that the opening is set in the Preferences Pane. Is there a way or add on that will allow this on the fly ? Or place the option in the attachments dropdown menu on the attachments bar ? It would greatly speed things up.

You can select 'Always Ask' as action in preferences when opening a pdf attachment. So you'll be prompted every time and can choose which application to use.
