PDF conversion to Excel

I get a flag of error signing in when converting pdf file to excel.

Greetings Vivian,
The reason it is not automatic is because it needs to allow subscribers to choose either Excel or Word.
Would you mind sharing the specific error message you are receiving? Have you tried using other browsers such as Firefox when logging in?
Here is a 'getting started' guide that may be helpful as well as our FAQ.
Files.acrobat.com is safe, but of course nothing online is completely guaranteed.
Let me know about that error and if you are able to login again using a new browser.
Kind regards, Stacy

  • PDF conversion to Excel isn't working

I'm a new user in ExportPDF
Trying to convert a pdf file to an excel file, but conversion comes back as an .xlsx file, which Excell says is not compatible.
Tried renaming it to an .xls file, but this didn't help
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I don't know if its still available there is was a Converter that can be installed that allows Office2003/4- 2007/8 those application to Read docx, xlsx, pptx files. If you save one of these file in doc, xls, ppt (Binary) format you lose any new features that are in the docx, pptx, xlsx formats (XML format).
It used to be in a website called Mactopia but that has been shut down and moved another area on Microsoft's website.

  • Page numbers incorrect after conversion from Excel to pdf

Page numbers incorrect after conversion from Excel to pdf
""This above link (thread:834599) is from a case back in 2011 that claims to solve this problem, but it does not solve this problem. I think that customer only cared about having continuous page numbering, not discrete page numbering per sheet.
    ========================
I still have this issue in Acrobat XI and MS Office Professional Plus 2010. I keep upgrading to no avail. This regression has resulted in a huge time drain for me. If you fixed it, please explain how I can get my hands on the resolution.
Previous versions of Excel and Adobe Acrobat enabled flexibility around the "Page #" of "Number of Pages" (Page &[Page] of &[Pages]) token, depending on context and usage. The "# of pages" token could represent EITHER the number of pages in the workbook OR the number of pages in the tab/sheet, depending on how you generated the PDF:
You could select "Selected Sheets" and then select all or some of the individual sheets in the workbook, and the PDF would honor the discrete numbering of each of the sheets, so the first page of each sheet was p1 and the "# of pages" was the number of pages in the sheet; not the number of pages in the workbook; or
You could select "Entire Workbook" and the PDF would honor continuous page numbers across all sheets, as a single document.
Now, it only honors the total number of pages in the workbook, regardless of the method you use to publish to PDF: saving as PDF, printing to PDF, using "createPDF" from Acrobat plugin to Excel's menu ribbon; selecting all sheets, some sheets, or Entire Workbook; automatic First page number or "1" under Page Setup > Page> First page number. (This last option, btw, does restart every sheet at p1, but it hardly makes sense if the total number of pages is still the total number in the workbook instead of the number in the sheet.)
I spent a lot of time trying each which way that the blog posts recommended and have tried this on multiple versions of Excel and Acrobat now.
NONE of these time-consuming experiments gave me what I wanted. They all insist that "Page #" of "Number of Pages" (Page &[Page] of &[Pages]) is the total number of pages in the workbook or the total number of pages in the selected sheets combined.
The numbering are correct in Excel Page Layout.
The same issue happens when using LibreOffice calc. (Although, I never tested with Libre Office before, so I don't know that it ever worked).
The workaround now is to create PDF for each spreadsheet one at a time, and then compile them using the Acrobat combine/binder feature. All alternatives are extremely time consuming and tedious. It used to be automatic. This is a major regression that has gone untreated for over a year now, maybe two years.
My task takes infinitely more time to complete than it did with previous versions of Acrobat. That means that days are added to my project, when the functionality used to enable a quick pdf generation that was ready for review, now I have to do this very manual time-consuming set of steps to generate a draft. As the project has grown and more tabs are added, my pdf-generation task takes that much longer. We require lots of drafts. It used to be easy and fast. Now it is hard and time-consuming.
In my opinion, the problem is not Excel; it is Acrobat because it was introduced with an upgrade in Acrobat, not an upgrade in Excel. The problem was introduced in Acrobat 9 or 10. Please provide a patch or add-on or something.

If you are setting up the page numbers in Excel, the resulting PDF would display the the page numbers created in Excel. On Excel 2010 support page, (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/insert-and-remove-page-numbers-on-worksheets- HA010342619.aspx#BM2) is stated the following "tip" which indicates by default Excel 2010 starts numbering each tab with 1. Exel's workaround tip is below -
Set a different number for the starting page
Tip   To number all of the worksheet pages in a workbook sequentially, first add page numbers to all worksheets in a workbook, and then use the following procedure to begin the page number for each worksheet with the appropriate number. For example, if your workbook contains two worksheets that with both be printed as two pages, you would use this procedure to begin the page numbering for the second worksheet with the number 3.
On the Page Layout tab, in the Page Setup group, click the Dialog Box Launcher next to Page Setup.
On the Page tab, in the First page number box, type the number that you want to use for the first page.
Tip   To use the default numbering system, type Auto in the First page number box.
Also helpful in the same section is the note on viewing page numbers. To see if the page numbering dilemma originates in Excel make sure you are using the Page Layout View see below:
    Hide All
If you want numbers shown on pages when you print a worksheet  you can insert page numbers in the headers or footers of the worksheet pages. Page numbers that you insert are not displayed on the worksheet in Normal view — they are shown only in Page Layout view and on the printed pages.
Overall it may be easier not to create the page numbers in Excel but instead create then in Acrobat using the Headers and Footers option in Acrobat.  I hope this helps - it sounds like a frustrating issue you are experiencing.

  • Pdf conversion from a non unicode system to a unicode system

    Hi,
I have a BSP application that runs on a unicode system which retrieves data to be output in pdf from a non unicode sap system.
We get the data from the non unicode system through a RFC call and store data in table otfdata type itcoo, then we perform the conversion through the following:
    perform pdfcnv_convertotf in program saplstxw
    tables otfdata
    pdf
    using
    'T'
    archive_index
    1
    'T'
    pdf_bytecount
    app_tot_xstring
and then perform the hex conversion, but the printout is full of # chars. The good characters are followed by the # char. It looks like the unicode conversion is not good.
Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Converting Election PDF's to Excel;

When converting several different election PDF's to Excel, the conversion does not come out correctly. Individual rows in the PDF's are grouped together as sets of three in the corresponding Excel file. It is very difficult to work with the resulting Excel file.
For example try converting this PDF election file: http://www.acgov.org/rov/current.htm
The result in Excel becomes this: (note how three rows are gouped in each cell)

I have an Adobe account and used the online converter. I also had problem converting such files with Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.
Are there any options or other trick that can be used to convert such files?
    Thanks

    Short response:
"You cannot make a silk purse from a sow's ear."
    Expanded response:
    Just looked at "sovc2012-11-06.pdf".
From looking at the PDF and at the content exported to PDF -
The Excel file has multiple rows in a single Excel row.
re: (note how three rows are grouped in each cell)
Root cause for export content needing cleanup = the PDF is not a tagged PDF.
Viewing the content one "sees" and extrapolates the intended logical hierarchy.
However the PDF content has no logical hierarchy imposed as it is not a well-formed tagged PDF.
("well-formed" as defined by ISO 14289-1, the ISO standard for PDF/UA).
Export needs the content's logical hierarchy to be known.
When this is not present heuristics are used. How effective this is is dictated on how the content was created and processed out to PDF.
The PDF I viewed is intended to represent tabular data.
That is not how the content in the PDF was created/painted.
If you have Acrobat Pro open the PDF then open the Content Panel.
    Ignore the "Path" entries.
    Select a "Text:" entry.
From the Panel's Options menu select the "Highlight" choice.
Now move down, selecting "Text:" entries for a given page.
Observe how what is highlighted bounce about different locations on the page.
Whatever application was used to feed Distiller (which produced the PDF) did not provide requisite logical hierarchy.
The page bounce I mentioned displays the order in which textual content was painted to the PDF page.
A consequence of how the PDF source content was mastered and how this was processed to PDF is that what we see/know to be, logically, discrete rows gets bundled during export and placed into a single row.
This would not occur had the PDF content been created as proper tabular data with correct application of the PDF <Table> element and this element's child elements/tags.
If this PDF had been mastered properly and appropriate tag management used the tagged output PDF would've had a well-formed <Table> element with proper child elements.
An export of this to Excel would've required little to no cleanup in the Excel file.
Unfortunately you do not have the "well-formed tagged PDF".
Consequently ExportPDF or Acrobat export is hampered.
n.b., manually tagging to provide a proper <Table> is, typically, not practicable.
For this particular content it'd be a waste of life-minutes.
Unfortunately, you'll have to perform manual cleanup of the content exported to Excel to get where you want to be.
As good as ExportPDF and Acrobat export are they are constrained by what is provided as input.
It's unfortunate that Alameda did not provide well-formed tagged PDF on it's publicly facing web site.
Consequently they are not accessible to many (i.e., Section 508 accessibility), they are not fully supportive of "re-purpose" via export, they are not fully supportive of use on mobile devices.
Disappointing because with Acrobat Pro (and perhaps some ancillary supporting tools) it is not so difficult to provide well-formed tagged PDF.
    Be well...

  • Convert Word Doc to PDF - font in Excel object is changed

    Hi,
I have tried to convert a word document to PDF. The document
has an Excel object embedded. In the PDF file created by
acrobat.com, the font in Excel object was changed (no longer Times
    News Roman).
Can someone please contact me and give it a try?
    My email: [email protected]
    Cheers

Do you know which font it was substituted for? If the entire
font is not required, the PDF Conversion process will create a
subset font, and will then change the name of the font (since it is
not technically the full original font). However the glyphs used in
the subset font should be identical.

Convertion pdf to word/Excel is now a days very important now a days. It should convert exactly in the same format.

    Good day Bare,
Whenever you have a document that already contains renderable text, try turning off the option to 'Recognize Scanned Text In' within the conversion engine.  This shuts off the OCR (optical character recognition) function and may affect how your document converts.  It's a great first troubleshooting step whenever your conversion doesn't appear as you expected.
That is how I converted the document that you sent to our File Conversion Issue form.
Please let us know if you have any questions.

    Hello,
'''Try Firefox Safe Mode''' to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
''(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)''
    * You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
    * Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
'''''If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode''''', your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] article for that.
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.''
''When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.''
    Thank you.
