Pdf document contents not accessible by JAWS in Firefox

Hi experts. I am using JAWS screen reader for accessibility in my ASP.NET website. I have one link button in my web page. when clicking this button it will opens a pdf document. For using firefox this pdf document not accessed or read by JAWS screen reader. But this pdf accessed fine when browsing my site with Internet explorer. I have using JAWS 13.0. Firefox version 12.0. Can anyone please give me solution for that as soon as possible. this one is very urgent. Thank you...

There is a technical difference between the PDF rendering components in IE and Firefox. IE uses an ActiveX control while Firefox uses a "Netscape-style" plugin. Do you know whether your JAWS software can work with both?
As a workaround, you can launch PDFs from Firefox into Adobe Reader. To do that, try changing your application preference here:
orange Firefox button ''or'' classic Tools menu > Options > Applications
In the search box, type pdf and pause while the list is filtered. Change the drop-down control on the right side from "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" to "Always Ask".
(If your Firefox is current set to use Foxit or another non-Adobe reader, you could try changing it to "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)" and see whether that actually works.)

  • Links (urls) inside a pdf document are not enabled by the New firefox pdf preview feature but are in Chrome & IE

The new pdf preview feature in firefox desktop does NOT seem to activate any links (urls) inside the pdf meaning they are no longer clickable.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem.
I send out product information using pdf's with clickable links inside (as do lots of businesses) and this loss of clickable links functionality is a problem.
I also tried the same pdf files in IE and Chrome and their inline pdf previews keep all links fully working.
I know the pdf preview in firefox can be deactivated and the adobe reader can be used instead but in reality lots of people won't know how to do this or won't be troubled to find out how and will just move on.
Does anyone know if this feature is going to be fixed or supported or is it a deliberate security feature.
    Thanks.
    JP.

    Hey JPEdwards,
The PDF.js team is still hard at work on the built-in viewer. It looks like there is already a bug on file for this and they are aware of it:
    https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=821599
Please don't post in the bug if you are just confirming that you've seen the problem too. That clutters the tickets ;)

  • Reader 11.0.10: the links pointing to other pdf-Documents do not function anymore.

I have updated Reader 11.0.09 to 11.0.10. But now the linked pdf-documents in the main-pdf-document do not open. Nothing happens until I disable the "Sandbox-protection" (potected mode enabled by start). Under 11.0.09 this was not neccessary! Is there a bug in 11.0.10?

    Hi grissler,
Are the linked pdf documents weblinks?
PDFs have evolved from static pages to complex documents with features such as interactive forms, multimedia content, scripting, and other capabilities. These features leave PDFs vulnerable to malicious scripts or actions that can damage your computer or steal data. Enhanced security lets you protect your computer against these threats by blocking or selectively permitting actions for trusted locations and files.
When enhanced security is enabled and a PDF tries to complete a restricted action from an untrusted location or file, a security warning appears. The type of warning depends on the action and your version of Acrobat or Reader.
If yes then you need to add it to the trusted list. To bypass the enhanced security restriuctions, please refer: Adobe Acrobat X Pro * Enhanced security

  • PDF documents suddenly not opening in Firefox 3.5.6

I'm running Windows XP and using Adobe Reader 9.2 with Acrobat 6.0 installed.
In the last couple of weeks Adobe Reader has suddenly stopped opening some PDF documents (but not all) in Firefox 3.5.6.
The error message is attached.  "The Adobe/Acrobat Reader that is running cannot be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Please exit Adobe/Acrobat Reader and exit your web browser and try again".
Any ideas what has gone wrong?

You might want to check here to see if you have everything configured correctly.

  • How can I disable the "this PDF document might not be displayed correctly" notification?

Almost all PDF files produce the "this PDF document might not be displayed correctly" message when viewed with the built-in PDF viewer.
This message does not convey useful information. It appears on almost all PDF files (even though they usually work correctly after all); it sometimes fails to appear even on files that don't work (so it does not accurately predict whether a given file will work); when a file doesn't work, there is no way to make it work short of using an external viewer (so the error I'm being warned about is not something I can fix); and it demands a user action to dismiss it EVERY TIME it appears (so it places a disproportionate demand on my attention). How can I disable it?
Please note that I am not looking for instructions on how to disable the built-in PDF viewer. I just want to turn off the warning message.

The only way to stop this message is to disable the built-in PDF Viewer and use another viewer.<br />
On Linux you only have an older version of the Adobe Reader available, so you may have to open the PDF files in an external viewer like evince.
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu if you want to display PDF documents in Firefox with another application (i.e. not the built-in PDF Viewer).

  • Uploaded pdf-documents generates code instead of pages in firefox and chrome (however they work in safari)

this is a new problem after having upgraded to mountain lion.
when I attach a hyperlink to my pdf-document that I like to display on the web - the pdf-document will not show up in Firefox or Chrome - it generates a lot of code instead.
I have only uploaded the files to my computer (not released on the web yet) - as I can see all files are neatly displayed in the appropriate pagefolder.
One of the themes (modern) provided as a standard feature in iWeb has been used. In Chrome the menu does not show up either (although safari and firefox displays the menu correctly)

I should have given you some info about testing the local version of your site. As you probably realise, its almost useless testing your site in Safari since hardly anybody uses it.
In OS X up to Snow Leopard, we could set up Web Sharing from System Prefs but Apple made this difficult in Mountain Lion.
See the bottom of this page for info about testing the local version of your website...

  • How can I make sure under Windows 8 in Explorer to get a real pdf document content file miniature and not the Adobe logo miniature?

This is not a typical Windows 8 problem, I had the same problem with all my previous Acrobat versions on all previous Windows versions.
How can I make sure that when consulting pdf files via Windows explorer the pdf file is represented as a genuine miniature of the document content itself and noit just a document icon with Adobe logo?

    Hi Josialaers,
Turn the 'Preview Pane' ON and you should be able to see the content of the pdf when clicked.
When 'Show preview handlers in preview pane ON' is checked in 'Folder Options' of Windows Explorer.

  • Intra-pdf-document links not working

    Hello
I developed a pdf document in Acrobat 9 Pro Extended with links from a contents page to the subject pages in the publication.  I placed command 'buttons' on these pages to return to the Contents page.  Offline, these are prsent when viewed using Reader 9. Uploaded to my website, the command 'buttons' simply are not there - either visible or invisible, they have just gone.
Can you please tell me what went wrong and how do I fix it?
    David Guthrie

You need to confirm what PDF viewer is being used when viewing the documents online Firefox recently added a built-in viewer and it doesn't support forms at all, and buttons are a type of form field.

    Hi,
I assume you have two pdf files and they have different contents.
    Let’s say 1.pdf and 2.pdf.
Please try to check it as following:
    1.
    Upload 1.pdf to SharePoint site
    2.
    Delete 1.pdf in local
    3.
Change the name of 2.pdf to 1.pdf
    4.
    Upload 1.pdf to SharePoint site
    5.
And then could you get the two version of this document with different contents?
Please let me know the result.
    Hope this helps
    Thanks!

  • MS Excel document as attachment to a PDF document does not open with a hot spot/link in the PDF

Hi, I have attached an excel file to a pdf document. I need to open this document in a new window by clicking an icon/hotspot in the pdf document to which it it attached.
I am using the Link Tool to create a hot spot around the icon in the pdf. In the next window I am using the Go to Page view option, opening the attachment to its first page and clicking the "set link" button.
For some reason, clicking the hotspot does not open the excel document as it does another pdf document.
Need help resolving this issue with attached documents.

Select a particular download file. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window.  In the Open With section choose the desired default application from the dropdown menu then click on the Change All button.
For .dmg files use DiskImageMounter (System/Library/CoreServices/ folder.)
For .zip files use Archiver - same folder as above - or download TheArchiver - MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.

  • Double Clicking on a PDF document, will not open

When double clicking on a PDF document with the default document properties set to Acrobat Professional 8, the document will not launch Acrobat.
If Acrobat is already opened however it will launch.
    I've tried:
    re-setting file associations
    deleting preferences
Uninstalling and reloading Acrobat: (solves the issue for a time but after a period of use it reverts to this broken state).
OS X 10.5.5 is fully updated, as is Acrobat 8.

Another Utility that will do the same without aid of DVD.
    is a Utility called
AppleJack version 1.5 works with OSX.5.x and version 1.4.3 work with all previous systems.
download install the go into Single User mode (restart Command-S) wait for screen to come up will be in B&W as soon as it starts up release until you see a Blinking Block Cursor. type applejack as instructed on screen. follow the commands as shown in Order.
I amazing what problems it can clear up. Font Caches are removed and others. If you follow all the way to the end. Its amazing how much your machine will speed up up not having to wade through obsolete Cruft. Note if you do everything to the end. will take you computer a few minutes to rebuild caches, and other items.

  • PDF documents will not open in Adobe Acrobat 5

I have one computer with XP running Acrobat 5. I now have a second computer running Windows 7 with Acrobat 9 Pro.  When I take PDF documents from the computer with Acrobat 9 Pro to the one with Acrobat 5, the PDF docs will not open - an error message states the file is corrupted.  Why is this hapening and how can it be fixed?
Thanks for any assistance - confused.

#1 - The files were moved using a thumb/USB drive and "Safely Remove" was used.
#2 - You may be on to something here for some: Some were created by AA9 but some others were scanned in and some were from AA8 that I had no trouble before.
#3 - The only "special feature" is that the PDF files are searchable and some are a PDF of an image.
    These are basic PDF files.
    Thanks for your assistance

  • PDF document apparently not created, because it does not appear

I am temporarily booting up from a cloned backup of my hard drive located on an external hard drive, because my G4 Powerbook (containing my actual hard drive) is being repaired.  I use Acrobat Standard 7.0, on a Tiger operating system (Mac OS X v. 10.4.11).
Normally, I create a PDF version of a Word document by simply printing it to PDF -- selecting “Adobe PDF 7.0” in the Print dialogue.  Briefly after hitting “print,” a PDF document named “TemporaryCustom_PS_File” appears on the desktop.  Now, however, no PDF document of any sort appears -- on the desktop or anywhere else I can detect.  (A smart search reveals no relevant document has been newly created or modified, or appropriately named, etc.)
I am hopeful this problem will not continue when and if I am again able to use my hard drive.  But, in the meantime, how can I rectify this?

PS: Perhaps I should add that I am printing from a CLASSIC version of Word, so the print dialogue box does not offer such things as “PDF options,” “Save as PDF,” or even “Copies & Pages.”  It is very basic -- just identifies the printer as “Adobe PDF 7.0” and lets me choose a page range.  (Only “destinations” available are “Printer” and “File.”)

  • PDF Document is not working

    Hi,
We are migrated from xMII 12.0 to MII 14.0 SP04 . We generate PDF document. A html page calls a exacute query which calls a transaction.
In the transaction, a PDF Document object, PDF Bar Code object, Delete File object and Image Saver. Delete File Object will delete existing file in WEB://ABC/PDF folder and image saver will save the new PDF file in WEB://ABC/PDF folder. HTML page popup a window which will display the save PDF file. Another transaction which find the name the file in the WEB://ABC/PDF and pass this information to Delete File object.
In 12.0 it is working fine and in 14.0 implemeted new PDFActions.zip file as per note 1325997. Now for a user, I assigned SAP_MII_Developer PDFis generating. But other user with the same role as the previous user, the PDF page is not generating. Log error shows, java.io.FileNotFoundException.
The roles of the user are assigned to both the transaction.
Please help to resolve the issue.
    Thanks,
    Raman N

    Hi Raman,
Just give a try to below mentioned thing:
I was trying file drop functionality in MII 14.0 and I could not make it work until I cleared Default File Path property under System Properties screen.
It comes with ‘MII’ by default on it representing MII web folder. Once I left it blank my file drop on MII box and on the network started working.
Just something that has changed on MII 14.0
