PDF does not convert correctly to Word

When I convert a PDF file to Word (either doc or 97-2003), I have to make major changes to the font, formatting, etc.  I may as well have retyped the actual document.  Am I doing something wrong?  Program was too expensive to have to tweak it!

Hi,
Would you send your PDF document to [email protected] as an email attachment?
I will check it from my end.Please add the link to this forum post for reference.

Florence

    I have a Word 2007 document with a figure that is a linked Visio Object.
    Acrobat 9 converts the page with the figure correctly.
    Acrobat X givcoverts the page with a blank figure and a play button and selecting the play button gives an all black figure.

    Can you please share the word/visio file having issues in Acrobat X? Also please let us know the OS details on which you tried this file?

  • Converting .docx with chart to .pdf does not work correctly

    I have a docx file with an excel chart and a hyperlink in it. The chart is a line chart with data makers on the lines. One set of data markers are circles. The chart is simply copied from excel and pasted into word. I am using word and excel 2007 and adobe acrobat 8 standard on windows XP SP2. all software is fully updated.
    When I convert this doxc file to pdf, the circle data markers from the chart are greatly enlarged and obscure the text and chart. The hyperlink works fine. This occurs when I use the acrobat plug-in within word to create a "quick and simple" pdf. this also occurs when I open adobe and choose create pdf from file. I cannot use the word plug-in to create a "fully functional" pdf. This feature simply does not work.
    When I convert the file to a pdf using the adobe printer/distiller, the circle data markers on the chart are fine, but the hyperlink no longer functions.
    I can copy the chart from excel and paste it into powerpoint and publisher and the conversion to pdf works fine. i can also create a pdf of the chart from excel to pdf without problems, so it appears to be a word to pdf issue.

    Thanks Bill
    Perhaps I was not clear enough though. I am not really concerned with the hyperlinks.
    The main problem is the excel chart. When I use PDF Maker the circle data markers from the chart are greatly enlarged and obscure the text and chart. The only way to make the chart look normal is to use the distiller, which kills the hyperlinks. I would rather use PDF Maker, keep the functionality of the hyperlinks, and have the excel chart look normal. The PDF Maker distorts the circle data markers on the chart and makes the page unreadable. That is what I need to fix.
    I realize the simple solution is to use something other that circles for data makers, but I have a lot of charts and don't want to spend the time remaking them all.

  • Cfdocument format = PDF - does not format correctly

    Greetings
    I am simply attempting to print invoices from a query that displays correctly on the cfm result page, but using cfdocument to render a PDF version (to mail out) does not format even remotely close to the cfm page.
    I tried every conceivable method I know of, including:
    Formating the cfm page (via CSS and hardcoded table width) to be 612 px X 792 px (8.5 X 11 in), and here is the cfdocument code:
    <cfdocument
    format="pdf"
    pageType="custom"
    unit="in"
    marginbottom="0.75"
    marginleft="0.75"
    marginright="0.75"
    margintop="0.75"
    pageHeight="11"
    pageWidth="8.5"
    mimeType="text/html"
    fontembed="yes"
    orientation="portrait">
    <style type="text/css">
    @import url(css/moorings.css);
    </style>
    <html> blah blah </html>
    </cfdocument>
    The rendered PDF file is 4.5 X 5 in- (both in IE and Firefox) What am I missing here?
    CF 9
    Thanks in advance, as always.

    Well, in answer to my own question, the solution is in the CSS, using tables and CSS:
    set table height and width to 100%
    set font-size:100%;
    set header font, bolder, larger :125%;, etc.
    Also using the cfdocument attributes as shown in the posting
    The PDF now prints correctly, margins are perfect.
    Now I have to figure out how to loop through the 900+ records, convert each to a PDF and print one copy of each-
    Anyone?
    Thanks....

  • .pdf does not render correctly

    Hello everyone:
    When creating a .pdf from a .html dreamweaver file it does not render properly. Headings go to the left and sidebar images do not display properly. Any ideas as to how to fix this. Using Adode Acrobat 8 Professional and Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. Many Thanks

    Take a screenshot of the page then convert that to a PDF.
    The PrtScr key on the keyboard only captures what you can see on screen (or the active window).
    To get the entire page, either use something like SnagIt (commercial) or use one of the free add-ons for Firefox.
    Edit: or as Paula suggests, create a print stylesheet.

  • PDF does not display correctly

    Issue: One of our website page displays a PDF form filled with data retrieved from database. The PDF file displays perfect in IE browser, but the PDF form was blank in Firefox browser - can not see the filled data at all in Firefox browser nor in print-out from Firefox.
    I installed the most recent version of Firefox PDF viewer 0.8.1 add-on, and played with different options under the menu "options/Portable Document Format (PDF), but no luck to solve the above issue.
    I noticed that not only our website, but also some government websites have the same issue display data filled PDF.
    Anybody can help me out to resolve this issue?
    Many thanks!

    This may well be a limitation of the JavaScript-based PDF Viewer. It currently does not support all the feature of the Adobe plugin (or stand-alone version of Adobe Reader). You can test that theory using the steps in this article: [[How to disable the built-in PDF viewer and use another viewer]].
    While an end user can switch around among viewers by changing their Firefox options, unfortunately there currently is no way for websites to detect which viewer is in use and assist visitors in a personalized manner. I think for now you may need to recommend that Firefox users use the above article for assistance if more complex PDFs do not render as expected.

  • Why are some of my pdf documents not converting to a word document?

    I have tried to convert a pdf document to word and it is not allowing me to enter the document to make changes, its as if it is still a pdf or picture

    Maybe your PDF file is composed of pictures? Can you select any of the text
    in it, or does it select the entire page as a whole? If the latter, then
    you can try to run Text Recognition on it before exporting it to Word.

    Hi olivias,
    It sounds like there may be some confusion on your system about what application should be associated with PDF files. You can reset filename associations by following the steps in these articles (depending on your operating system):

  • Word to PDF does not fully convert

    I'm using word 2003 and Acrobat 8 pro and when I convert a word document to a PDF it completes but randomly does not convert some paragraphs or formatting. The area is just blank. It could be a whole paragraph or just random words.
    any ideas?

    If you are having problems creating a PDF, there are two steps you should do FIRST
    Go to the appropriate vendor web site and apply all updates to the program you are using (several recent messages have concerned problems with MS Office conversion, with the response that different versions of Office have different BUGS that must be fixed by a download from Microsoft - and MS Office products are not the only ones which may, from time to time, need to be updated to work properly)
    Go to the Acrobat update page and apply the updates for your version of Acrobat
    IN NUMBER ORDER (updates are not cumulative so, using version 8 as an example, you must apply 8.1.0 before the 8.1.1 before the 8.1.2 update)

  • Devanagari font in layed out in Indesign (using IndicPlus) does not export correctly to a PDF.

    Namaste InDesign gurus,
          I have a problem at hand. Wondering if anyone has encoutered similar problem before? Any help is greatly appreciated. And if you're in San Francisco bay area - I can buy you a lunch :-)
    Short description: Devanagari font in layed out in Indesign (using IndicPlus) does not export correctly to a PDF. All the ligatures are assembled and displayed in the PDF.
    Adobe Indesign Version: InDesign CS5 Design Premium - regular U.S. version (not ME).
    Steps I took:
              I purchased CS5 Design Premium and also purchased the IndicPlus plugin to author sanskrit documents in InDesign. I create Sanskrit text using either of the following methods.
    1) Itranslator
    2) Paste the devanagari from the Itranslator directly into InDesign or paste it first into MSWord and then copy from MSWord and paste it to Indesign.
    It doesn't matter how I paste it. After I apply the IndicPlus character/paragraph style so that the sanskrit looks good in InDesign, when I try to export it to a PDF. The PDF does not display the ligatures currectly. It just lists all the characters in order without assembling.
    I've spent a lot of money buying CS5, IndicPlus and then I can't even create a simple PDF document from InDesign. It is very frustrating.
    Has anyone been able to successfully export a sanscrit document from InDesign PDF ?
    (Please let me know if my problem description needs more fleshing out).
    I could create the PDF from MSWord directly but I'm trying to use indesign to layout my book. If InDesign cannot export to PDF I'll just have to use MSWord for my book layout. I've spend probably scores of hours trying to learn InDeisn and formatting my book content - seems like it is all going to be waste.
    Is MSWord the best choice or only choice for laying out books that have sanskrit text in them?
    -Ravi

    Has anyone been able to successfully export a sanscrit document from InDesign PDF ?
    Not Sanskrit, no, but plenty of Hindi, Nepali, Marathi, and other languages written in Devanagari script - so it should be possible. I don't even use IndicPlus, which by most accounts makes working with Indic text much easier.
    1) Itranslator
    I've never seen this, but a quick Google led me to the homepage of ITranslator for Windows, where I saw this:
    Itranslator 99 (Build 1.3.0.86)  & New Beta Version
    uses 8-bit true type fonts and is compatible
    with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP.
    For more information, click here.
    Itranslator 2003 (Build 2.0.0.38) & New Beta Version
    uses 16-bit Unicode-compatible fonts and is working
    only on Windows 2000 / XP / Server 2003.
    For more information, click here.
    So, if you're using ITranslator 99, there's the problem - those "8-bit true type fonts" won't work in InDesign. Can you post a sample of the text you're trying to paste into InDesign? Name the font(s) you are using, both in Word and in Indesign, and if possible make a small sample of the text available for us to test. It's also possible that InDesign is using a substituted font, which could cause this problem. So, if the font name in InDesign has brackets around it, you know that InDesign doesn't actually have that font installed and is auto-substituting. Also, if you go to View -> Screen Mode -> Normal and the text is highlighted pink, you know that the font has dropped. (Unless the highlighting for dropped fonts was turned off - check in Edit -> Preferences -> Composition and make sure that "Substituted Fonts" is checked.
    Also, for what it's worth, is there any way you could Place your text instead of copying and pasting? This may be cause of your problem - but even though it probably isn't, it's still worth a try.
    Lastly - no, I've found InDesign to be superior for typesetting for almost all languages, but the learning curve is pretty steep, and many of the problems faced by people working in non-English languages are not easy to research when you have a problem.

  • Acrobat/Indesign does not export correct into the selected output intention (eci_iso_coated_v2_300)

    I use the CS6 suite with Acrobat XI at windows platform.
    When I want to save a file from InDesign as .pdf with output intention eci_iso_coated_v2_300 the result is a .pdf with more than 300% ink coverage.
    I tried to transform the result in Acrobat XI into this standard output intention, but also the result has more than 300 % ink coverage.
    What is the reason of this bug?
    Before with Acrobat X this worked without problems

    Hi Rob,
    I was told the new way to work would be to draw files via Bridge direct into the InDesign file
    and I thought automatically the color would not be changed.
    my colourmanagement setting in bridge for the whole CS6 was  ECI isocoated_V2_300
    The Illustrator file was saved without color profile.
    In this test file I used 3 kinds of black: background of pirate in cmyk 79,34 / 72,78 / 59,38 / 79,88 = ink coverage 291 %
    DÜSSELPIRATEN in “black” (if you would convert this in the file with the cmyk button it would be the same ink-percentage as before
    “e.V.” was set to 100 % k
    I set the preferences for Acrobat from InDesign CS6 as pdf X4 with profile eci isocoatedV2_300 in three ways:
    no color conversion
    convert to profile
    convert to profile keeping existing values
    in all tree files the pirates background has 322 % ink coverage instead of 291 %
    Why does Acrobat convert “black” in the wrong way?  If I click in Illustrator on the 4c button to convert the “black” into 4c it is 291% ink
    Acrobat should come to the same result with all profiles: iso coated V2 and iso coated V2_300
    The same happens also by saving as .pdf X3 or .X1
    The minimum what I expect is, that Acrobat reduces ink coverage for black to 300 %
    I also made test with the new ECI profiles for laminated prints from 2012.
    And with newspaper profiles
    In this case the ink coverage comes below 300 %, but only when I choose convert to profile.
    And then the 100 % k converts to cmyk, what I don’t want to have with text.
    Is there no way to reduce ink coverage below a special percentage without changing Text 100% k
    And is there a bug in Acrobat XI with the ECI IsoCoated_V2_300 Profile? For there is no color reduction below 300 % in all conversion settings.
    I can’t test this with Acrobat X or IX, for my computers with this software don’t run with CS6 64 bit.
    enclosed you find my files

  • REPORT DOES NOT RUN CORRECTLY , URGENT PLEASE HELP

    Hi,
    I am trying to run a report from visul basic screen, but it does not run correctly. Here is how I am running the report. There is a screen developed in VB This screen prompts the user for user id and password. Once it gets that, it connects to the oracle database and pulls out a column from a table. And passes that value as a parameter to the report. Now I am calling the the report for each individual value . There are 21 value being pulled out of the database and it invokes the report 21 times. So there are 21 report engines gets started. Is there a better way to do that ? Secondly when I pass the parameter , some parameters does not pass correctly I guess , because its not generating any out put . Like out of 21 may be 10 or 11 reports gets generated correctly but rest of the reports are blank. I debug the screen i saw that the parameter value is correct, everything seems good. But still the reports are comming blank. Any Idea why it is so ? The command line that i am using in VB screen is
    Shell "C:\progra~1\ora95_2\bin\rwrun60.exe P:\Business_Analysis_&_Reporting_Tool\Test_REPORT_Templates\STORE_TYPES\Baby_Distribution_Report.Rdf USERID=" & UID & "/" & PWD & "@cposp201 DESFORMAT=PDF DESTYPE=FILE DESNAME=" & txtPath.Text & Replace(strName, " ", "_") & ".PDF BRND='" & adoRecBrand!Brand & "' PRINTJOB=NO PARAMFORM=NO"
    In the above command " adoRecBrand!Brand " is the parameter thats being passed. This is actually a recordset and brand is the column in it. When I debug the screen , I see the value also there. But the report comes out blank. Please help. This is urgent.
    Thanks
    Feroz

    The way you call reports is not scalable. If you have 100 records come back from database, you would end up launch 100 engines at the same times, which probably will blow up your machine. You should use oracle reports server to do that. You can either use rwcli60 to submit the job to reports server, or invoke rwcgi60 from URL.
    I am afraid some of reports engine failed to start and you get nothing back in your case.
    After switch to use reports server achitecture, if you still see some report is blank in your application, then you can run that report with that special set of parameters manually and see if any problem with the report itself.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks,
    -Shaun

  • I want to create a document/spreadsheet (whichever) that I can send to agencies to type in information for work projects. Any ideas? I have an Excel file but it does not convert over very well and I am having trouble making changes to it.

    Need to create a new spreadsheet or be able to edit the one I have.
    I use this spreadsheet as a work order form for social service agencies. They enter name address etc., and then there are various work projects that they can select as well.
    The one I have from the organization I work with is an excel file but it does not convert over very well. Instead of being 7 pages it is more like 11 or so because things run off the page.  I am trying to delete certain things and move them over but not working out very well so thought it might be easier to start over fresh.
    Is numbers the program to use? If so, any useful tips?

    If the form is going to be used on an iPad, Numbers is the only game in town.
    Numbers is available for Macs only (and iOS devices). Excel is available for PCs and Macs. If you are in a mixed environment of Windows PCs and Macs and you are using this document as an electronic form, Excel is probably the better choice. Otherwise you will need to export to Excel for the PC users then import from Excel to retrieve their data. The import/export process is not perfect. A file that has been exported then reimported will not be the same as the original file. I would assume social services agencies are almost entirely PC-based.
    If the form is to be printed or turned into a PDF for distribution and use by the social services agencies, either Excel or Numbers would do the job but right now Excel might be the better choice. I would have recommended Numbers '09 but I cannot recommend Numbers 3 for anything thsat requires printing until they give us the layout and printing functionality we used to have (editing in Print View, ability to set margins, etc).
    If everything else in your department/operation/agency is Windows PC and Microsoft Office based, you would be better off sticking with the standard.
    I hope that helps.
