Pdf file iView

Hi,
have anyone the experience on how to deploy pdf files in an iView? We want to add several pdf files to the detailed navigation menu, but I dont find the iView template for this on v7.0. Is this possible at all, or do I need another approach?
thank you!
regards,
hilde

You can use a URL iview to display non-html objects like PDF files

  • KM Document iView for displaying PDF file.

    Hi all,
I have uploaded one pdf file (Estimate.pdf) to KM in folder abc. I want to create an iView to display that pdf file in portal. For which I have created a KM Document iView and in "Path to Document" property I have assigned the document path like: /documents/abc/Estimate.pdf
Now when try to see preview, instead of opening my pdf file, it shows only one image on top with text mySAP.com.
I have also tried to create a link to my document and given the link path but I got the same result.
Can anyone tell me why is this happening? Is there any other property to be set?
    Thanks in advance!!!!!

    Vikranth,
Check for the path again carefully. I guess you are following the right approach, but instead of previewing it, try assigning it to a user and check what happens.
Refer to this [article|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/f0235c19-9493-2b10-64a5-8487b23a7a41]for creation of iviews.

  • How can i display a pdf file stored in my KM from webdynpro link ?

    Hi experts,
i try to open my pdf file stored in km, in the same window of my webdynpro java who has the fire link ?
i user tow  iviews with inBound and outBound plug, the first one has the fire link and the seconde an iframe witch i set source parameter to my km link where my PDF is stored. Unfortunately, the iFrame don't work correctly, and my PDF is not be displayed
Can you give some advices ?

    Hi
Recently in my project I came across a scenario where my Web Dynpro Project had to pick the image from KM. The images to be displayed will be placed in KM. This will avoid loading the images into the Web DynPro project. More over when you have KM installed on your EP server, one can use it for storing backend data and resources. The KM Admin will be undertaking this task of uploading the images to predefined folder structures. Through the application path to the image will be provided dynamically giving you the flexibility to decide which image to be displayed according to the business logic.
Getting an image from KM Documents to be used in Web Dynpro
Uploading files to KM repository using Webdynpro APIs
    KM with WebDynpro
    thanks

  • "Incorrect structure found in PDF file"?

I put together multi-page seminar presentations by using the Acrobat "Create PDF from Multiple Files" command to join together individual PDFs acquired elsewhere or generated by Mathematica or Illustrator, and then reorganizing these pages in Acrobat.
Fairly often, when I try to Delete an unwanted one these pages using Acrobat's Document >> Delete Pages menu command I get the error message "An incorrect structure was found in the PDF file", and the page simply refuses to delete (workaround is then to move it to the end of the file.
Is there any way to cure or avoid these problems? Or a diagnostic I could run on the errant document? For example, to clean up the "incorrect structure" could I:
--Burst (Extract) the file back to individual pages, run each individual page through a Save or Save As process in Acrobat or Illustrator?
--Do the preceding on every page before assembling the first time?
--Buy a whole new suite of Adobe programs?
Doing a Save or Save As on the complete file doesn't seem to help.
[This happen on a MacBook running Tiger (OS 10.4), Acrobat 7.0 Standard, Illustrator CS 7.0. Send me an email; I'll forward a cc of one of these files.]

In response to questions from Leonard Rosenthol:
Is it really 7.0 or are you current with 7.0.9? ==> It's 7.0.9
It is 10.4 or are you current with 10.4.9? ==> 10.4.10 actually
Happens only "every now and then" -- maybe 1 time in 10 -- don't identify any common factors or causes when it happens.
Must confess: I have maybe couple thousand PDF slides total, captured off the net, obtained by printing to PDF on Mac, generated in Mathematica, created from misc photos, pulled out of Word docs and tech reports, etc, etc. All organized pretty well in folders, cataloged with iView, but no records kept of where they came from.
Not a killer problem -- just makes me worry a little -- and wonder, if I understood the cause, could I fix the source slide that's maybe causing it -- or at least identify the problem slide.

  • Pdf file in portal

    Hi Detlev,
I have received a requirement wherein the pdf file needs to be stored within portal, and on click of a link on the left detailed tree navigation iview, the pdf file needs to open up. The user does not want to store document in KM.
    Please advise.
    Thanks and regards,
    Arun

    Hi Arun,
you can use the Web Server capabilities of the J2EE Engine for example by saving the PDF file to the irj-root directory on the Server machine, or better a subfolder:(..\j2ee\cluster\server0\apps\sap.com\irj\servlet_jsp\irj\root\mydocs).
Now, by opening the link http://<YOUR_SERVER>:<YOUR_PORT>/irj/mydocs/PDF_file.pdf
the user would open the document.
But, to be honest, I would rather advise to store the documents in KM, as it would be easier to upload but also you could benefit of all important concepts like security, etc.
    Hope this helps,
    Robert

  • Server Side Caching of pdf files

    Hi all,
I've run into a rather odd problem that I can't find a way around. I've created some URL iViews to display some html files and some pdf files. I've adjusted the Load parameters for these iviews to the following:
    Allow Client-Side caching: Yes
    Cache Level: Shared
    Cache Validity Period: 12 hrs
    Fetch Mode: Server-Side
I've found that the html URL iViews work fine like this, but the pdf URL iViews do not. The pdf ones seem to just hang.
I've noticed that if I change the Fetch Mode to client-side for the pdf files, the iview then begins to work. However, I don't believe that this is the way that I want to configure my URL iviews. I believe that I want them all to be server-side cached.
I've followed the instructions on 'setting up system properties for proxy server' (System Administration -> System Configuration -> Service Configuration -> Applications -> com.sap.portal.ivs.httpservice -> Services -> Proxy). After making these configuration changes, I've stopped/restarted portal services. The problem still occurs.
Does anyone have any idea as to what may be causing this problem and how do I fix it?
    Thanks!

    Hello.
I have the same problem.  When I tried open a pdf file with  fecth = server-side,  I waitting for 500 seconds... But if I tried open with Fetcf = clien-side I only wait 2 seconds.
    Did you found the solution?
    Thanks.

  • IIsproxy, PDF files and IE60 as a browser

We set up the IISproxy (1.6)for our EP 60 SP9. Everything works fine except when we try to open some PDF files. After some time we get the error "The file is damaged and could not be repaired". This error only occurs for some PDF's, independent of its size.
When we access through SAP Web Server we do not get any problem to open those files.
All laptops and desktop have MS IE 6.0 (6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_rtm.04083_2158) as official browser. When we try with other browser like firefox there is no problem at all.
    Any hint or help?
    Thanks in advance
    Antonio

    Hi
We had similar issue with some PDFs on EP. For us, we used embedded iViews/HTML which renders PDFs. The problem is that embedded HTML with PDF does not work properly if you have fastwebaccess feature in the PDF.
You will have to recreate/reprint/re-author the PDF without the fastwebaccess feature using Adobe.

  • Linking pdf file to a WPC Banner

    Hello All,
Is it possible to link a pdf file to web page composer "banner" which will open on clicking on the banner?
I have linked a pdf file to a banner in Web Page Composer. But on clicking the banner its showing "403 Exception. The requested operation is not supported".
Its working fine with other types of files linked to the banner. I have full authorization in portal.
Ours is SAP NW 7.01 SP 09.
    Regards
    Deb

    Hi Deb,
You can create KM Iview from template (KM Iview can handle PDF Files) and then configuring KM as an external content provider for WPC like in this link:

  • HTML Container - pdf-file opens a new window

I use the ITS Webservice PZ04.
There is included a html container who shows the pdf-file inside this area.
Now I have the effect, that this pdf-file will opena a new window, but not inside the html container!?
First action before I have had this effect was the MS question-alert 'How you will open this file' Open/Download/Cancel - you know. - it never done before -
What can I do to open my pdf-file inside the html container? It runs some times.
    Thanks!

thank you for your answer, but it wasn't the solution.
I don't open the iView in a new window.
I open the iView (as IAC WebService via ITS) and the applacation generated a html container with pdf file!
And this pdf-file opens in a new window.
The Application runs up to now very good.
I think any value was changed and I don't know which.
It's possible the modification solved under MS or adobe!?
Solution: First Deinstallation and then Installation of Acrobate Reader.

  • Filename in Save As dialog when saving PDF file

I have a web site serving up PDF files. Without going into details, the URLs of the PDFs are not just your basic URL but look simething like this:
    http://www.domain.com/WorkFlowApp/Clients/demo1/secure/Promo%20Cover%20Cool-MedH i.pdf?userId=55b64ad5-28a2-490e-b3d6-4944099a390f#collab=CollabService@http://ww w.domain.com/ICCollab/IC_Service.asmx?WSDL
In this case the actual filename is "Promo Cover Cool-MedHi.pdf"
While viewing in Safari (OS X), if the user saves the PDF to their local machine, the Save As dialog comes up and the filename field is automatically populated. The problem is, instead of using just the filename, the field contains this:
    http---www.domain.com-WorkFlowApp-Clients-demo1-secure-Promo%20Cover%20Cool-MedH i.pdf?userId=55b64ad5-28a2-490e-b3d6-4944099a390f#collab=CollabService@http---ww w.domain.com-ICCollab-IC_Service.asmx?WSDL
I know when performing the same action on Windows using Internet Explorer, the Save As dialog box filename field is populated correctly with just the filename (although it shows up URL encoded as Promo%20Cover%20Cool-MedHi.pdf, which is OK).
I'd like to be able to force Safari to use just the filename in the Save As dialog box. Has anyone come accross this problem and figured out a solution?

    Hello Ebnul.nao

I need to convert PDF file to Word Document, so it can be edited. But the recognizing text options do not have the language that I need. How I can convert the file in the desired of me language?

The application Acrobat provides no language translation capability.
If you localize the language for OS, MS Office applications, Acrobat, etc to the desired language try again.
Alternative: transfer a copy of content into a web based translation service (Bing or Google provides a free service).
Transfer the output into a word processing program that is localized to the appropriate language.
    Do cleanup.

  • PDF File Size - any way to compress further?

We have are using the Crystal for .NET export method to export a report to a .pdf file, and are having an issue with the pdf file size on a report that contains images.  The images are stored in a SQL2005 database as blob or varbinary(max).  The report executes a stored procedure that selects data (including images) to produce a quotation.  There are input parms to decide which images to print (for example A, B or both A&B). Both types of images can appear at the line level on the quotation. Type A images print in the main report, Type B images are in a subreport.  Both the main report & subreport execute a stored procedure to select an image type.
Our issue, when both Type A and B image is selected to print on a 293 line quote.  The PDF file size is 44.23MB
When Type A only is selected, the PDF file size is 2.64MB
When Type B only is selected, the PFD file size is 43.95MB.
There are more Type B images that would print at the line level than Type A, but is there any way to compress this down further as it is too large to email.

You mention that you are using Crystal for .NET, but not what version; CR for .NET 2003, 2005, 2008. 2010?
Applying the latest fixes for the correct version of CR would be the first thing to do.
Next, I'd have a close look at image B as it appears to be the one adding the most "bulk". How is this image different from image A?
    General tips re. images:
    Save the files a BMPs.
When .jpg image is inserted into Crystal Reports it is converted into bitmap format and as the result of the conversion the report may loose some quality, scale and other issues may arise... E.g.; Crystal Reports is not so good a graphics management tool
When an image is saved as a .bmp, then there is no conversion required and thus the quality of the image should be preserved.
Best practice: save the image with high resolution and required size as a .bmp format then insert this image into Crystal Reports.
Resize the image to the smallest possible size and downgrade the DPI to 72. This will ensure your image is as small as possible and Crystal Reports will have to put in the least amount of work to display it.
Have a look ar KB [1241630 - Exporting a Crystal report (XI) to PDF generates a big PDF file|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_bi/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333233343331333633333330%7D.do]. This KB, may apply to your version of CR, or not. In any case, you will have to use the KB as a guide and determine what the appropriate registry entry would be for your version of CR.
One more thing. Many people like to use jpg files as they are smaller than bmp files. However, as far as Crystal Reports is concerned, this is inconsequential. The report file will be the same size if a file is inserted as a jpg or a bmp. This is due to the jpg conversion to bmp Crystal Reports does internally.

  • How to read, dispaly and open pdf files

Hi, I am very new to Java butI have VB6.0 background. My current requirement is to read pdf file names from a directory, then
show them on a form in a list (with their path in background pointing to the actual pdf files) and then once a user clicks any
file name, open that file on the form.
    For example:
My pdf files are in a directory as following:
    C:\myreports\user1\
    report1.pdf
    report2.pdf
    report3.pdf
    C:\myreports\user2\
    report1.pdf
    report5.pdf
The output on the form should look like this if user1 has logged in the system. Side note: I am able to get userid of the logged in person in a variable.
    My Reports:
    . Report 1
    . Report 2
    . Report 3
When a user clicks Report 1, it opens on the same form in pdf format.
    Thanks
    S.yhong

For the first part (Listing thepdf files in the directory) you can use the java.lang.File class.
    File f = new File("path to your directory");
    File files[] = f.listFiles();
then process the files array to find the files with extenction pdf
You can also use a file filter object and make the listFiles method return only the pdf files.
Please read the documentation about the File class for more info about it.
*/ For the displaying the pdf part is it good enough if you load the accrobat reader and with it. In that case you can do that using the Runtime.exec
Also you can search for free java based pdf viewers I am sure there must be meny.
And also the JTextPane might support pdf but I am not sure about it.
    EDIT:
Just to say that this is my 1000th post :)
