.pdf files in iBooks on original iPad don't appear when trying to sync to MAC

Original iPad has .pdf files in iBooks.  When trying to sync to MAC these filles don't present themselves so I can select them to be synced.

Did you try using the transfer purchase feature of iTunes? I know that these may not be purchased PDF files, and it is only supposed to work with iTunes purchases, but I have done this myself with PDF files in iBooks.
iTunes Store: Transfer purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
This feature works only for audio, video, and apps that you purchased from the iTunes Store. Any items that you imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources won't copy from your device to the iTunes library. However, copies of all PDFs and books from your device's iBooks app will transfer to the computer, regardless of whether they were purchased from the iBooks Store. • .pdf files in iBooks on my iPad don't show in iBooks on my iMac. Why?

when i installed iBooks on my iMac, only my purchased books show in the library.  PDF files I stored in iBooks on my iPad are not showing. Any ideas how I sync the pdf files?  They use a common Apple ID and I use iCloud for the iPad backup.

I have PDF files in iBooks on my iPad and am not able to sync them to my Mac computer.  Please help!

You should be able to copy them over to your Mac's iTunes by connecting the iPad to it and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases (that should copy PDFs and epubs that are in iBooks, not just actual ibooks) - does that not work ?

  • Can't open PDF files in iBooks on my iPad

When I open a PDF file in Safari the file displays fine. When I touch the "Open in iBooks" button the PDF flashes briefly on the iBooks bookshelf, then disappears. I have tried this over and over the with the same results.
Previously, I was able to get the PDF's to stay on the book shelf after 3 tries. Rebooting the iPad corrects the problem for getting only one PDF on the bookshelf, then no other PDF's will come into iBooks until I reboot. Since I have dozens of file to get into iBooks rebooting is not a viable solution.
Anyone else having this problem?  My iBooks is version 2.1.1 (908)
    Richard

I don't think it has to do with Safari.
I create a document using Pages in iWork, then I email it as a PDF to myself. Then I choose "open in iBooks" from Mail.
At first it would go to iBooks the first time, no problem. After a while, and I'm not sure what changed, I had to do it 3 times, just as you did, with the title briefly appearing in the PDF collection "shelf" on the 2nd try, as you said and on the 3rd time it was there.
Ever since the most recent iBooks update, even with rebooting, I haven't been able to put a PDF in iBooks at all. I tried deleting one and re-doing it, also. It didn't work either.
I was trying to go back to a previous version of iBooks, to see if it still worked, but I haven't figured out how to do that. In the Internet descriptions of how to revert to a previous version of an app, it says to find the earlier version in the trash, but that's only on the computer, not the iPad, right? I can't find any .ipa that looks like iBooks in my computer's trash.
Very likely I'm just not getting it, but that is what I think I (or someone smarter than me) should try next.

  • How to change the name of a pdf file in iBooks on ipad

I have a number of appliance and tool manuals  as pdf files uploaded to my iPad. In order to identify them easier I would like to change the names of the files. I changed them in iTunes on my computer but they do not change on the iPad2 when I sync. Is there a  way to do this?

    Greg,
I had been working on this a while and found what worked.  Save the pdf to your desktop with the file name as you want it.  Open up itunes on half of your monitor.  Drag the file to the library section of itunes (music, videos, books, movies etc...).  When you drag to the library section, it will put it the book section of itunes.  Sync and you will see the file in ibooks on your ipad.  Give it shot.

  • PDF Files with bookmarks open in iPad iBooks without the bookmarks.

PDF Files created with Adobe Acrobat or other PDF file creating software open in iPad iBooks with the Bookmarks.  How do you access those.

since iBooks doesn't have an "Open In" button or feature, how do I access PDF's in iBooks with Adobe Reader?

  • HT204365 How to email pdf files from iBook in iPad?

Why I can only see "print" but no "email" button when i open my pdf files in iBooks? As far as i know i should be able to email my pdf files from ibooks right?

Yes you should be able to email a PDF from iBooks. When you tap the arrow in the upper left the option should appear.
Maybe some basic troubleshooting steps will help.
Quit the iBooks app completely and restart the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. Restart the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Or .... Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
You may want to consider deleting the app and reinstalling. Tap and hold down on the app icon until it jiggles, then tap the X on the icon. Tap the home button to stop the apps from jiggling. Download iBooks again.

  • After installing iOS 8 for my iPad all my PDF files in iBooks disappeared.

After installing iOS 8 for my iPad Air, all my PDF files in iBooks disappeared.

Did you back these books up to your computer before updating to iOS 8? It is always suggested that you back everything up before updating, so if something goes wrong, you can easily put them back on.
You should just be able to plug the device into the computer you sync to and they should sync as long as you have "Sync Books" ticked in the books section.

  • Hello good morning ....how can I have all my PDF files  in Ibooks at the same time in my iPad and my iPhone, Thanks.

hello good morning ....how can I have all my PDF files  in Ibooks at the same time in my iPad and my iPhone, Thanks.

That's exactly how it's going to work. Unless you've set up separate iTunes playlists for your devices, the books will be deposited the books section on iTunes, and will appear as PDFs.
As Gus2259 said, you can use iCloud or Dropbox, or transport it through iTunes via an attached computer, or even use a cable.

    Hi johnc,
I'm sorry to hear that your file didn't convert well for you. Can you please tell me more about the PDF that you're trying to convert? Do you know how it was created? The quality of a conversion depends on the quality of the PDF, and it sounds like the file you have may not include the tagging information that is required to convert that properly into an Excel file. Would you be willing to share that file with me? If so, let me know and I'll send you a private message with my contact details.
    Best,
    Sara

  • It takes three tries to successfully open a PDF file in iBooks.

         This is regarding ipad2.
When I click on "open in iBooks," the bookshelf opens up and right upper circular icon spins as if it's about to open file, but the it stops and reverts back to edit button without anything else happening. So I try a second time on the "open in iBooks" from the PDF page, and this time, the icon of the PDF file appears on the bookshelf but then disappears a few seconds after that. If I happen to click on the icon before the icon disappears, the PDF will open but then will also disappear same few seconds later and then iPad goes back to home page or it opens up the "books" bookshelf. So third times a charm--clicking on "open in iBooks" the third time will finally open up PDF file in iBooks and incorporate it into the library.
Not sure if this is due (1) to size of my library--some 600+ PDFs, (2) recently upgraded to iBooks 2.1--can't remember if this started before or after.  I also just upgraded to iOS 5.1 yesterday hoping and thinking this would resolve the issue but it hasn't. Anyone with any suggestions?

    Hi Alan,
Sorry for the late response. i was busy with other work.
Through InputStream i can get the Remote remote resource by establishing the HttpURLConnection with the cookie information(that's how it can get credentials). But i don't know how to view the file using PDF_Renderer.
when i use the below code, it is working fine(i used PdfReader to read the InputStream ) but Sample.pdf is creating on the desktop of the system beacause of FileOutputStream which used as a parameter of PdfStamper.
// create a stamper that will copy the document to a new file named Sample.pdf
    PdfStamper stamp = new PdfStamper(reader,
         new FileOutputStream("Sample.pdf"));
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler "+"Sample.pdf");
Please provide me some solution through PDF_Renderer. i checked the api, i didn't get any idea.
    Thanks.

  • PDF File in iBooks but all images blank?

Hi - I have imported a PDF file into iBooks (it is a tearsheet from a publisher of some of my photography that is published). I really need to see the images in this PDF, not just the text. I am hoping to use the iPad to show my portfolio - and this tearsheet is an important piece of this.
Any idea why the PDF would show only text, and not the images? Is there a standard format that is missing here - or some incompatibility? When I view the PDF on my mac, it works fine. on the iPad, none of the images are shown.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have had mixed success. In some of my PDFs the images show, in others there are missing. Most have been down loaded from the Web, so there is no information on how they were made. One that was generated by printing a powerpoint to PDF looks great. All of the PDFs that were processed by Acrobat to Reduce the File Size were NOT readable for versions 6 or higher. Only the version "5 and up" had visible images. Other Acrobat operations, such as remove hidden objects, did not mess up the images.
There appears to be a formatting disagreement between Apple and Acrobat for versions 6 and higher.
    good luck

  • PDF files in IBook

Wien i am opening a PDF files in IBOOK allmost All my files comes ud Whit the name "no name" and i want tro keep the filende. Can annonce helt me?

    Hi Hartsough,
The article below may shed a little more light on working with PDF files in iBooks:
iBooks: Viewing, syncing, saving, and printing PDFs on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    Syncing and saving PDFs
To add PDFs to your iTunes library on your computer, simply drag and drop the PDF into your iTunes Book library.
To sync a PDF to iBooks on your device:
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in the Devices list on the left in iTunes 10.1 or later.
Click the Books tab in the resulting window.
Ensure that the Sync Books checkbox is enabled.
If iTunes is set to only sync selected books, be sure to enable the checkbox next to the PDF you want to sync.
    Click Sync.
iTunes can backup your PDF files so they are restored to your iOS device after a software restore, update, or to transfer information to a different device. When you use iTunes 10.1 or later to sync your PDF files to iBooks 1.2 or later on your iOS device, a backup of your PDF will be automatically created. A copy of the PDF will be added to your iTunes Books library.
    Hope this information helps!
    - Judy
