PDF from SQL data

I'm looking for a technology that will help me create multiple formats of similar data from an SQL database into PDFs. I haven't found a sales rep at Adobe who knows if any of their products can do what I need and they recommended the user-to-user forums.
My web-based application will generate financial affidavits. I need a different template for each state, so I need to create these templates without getting too much into the code itself. The templates will need to draw similar data about assets, liabilities, income and expenses from my SQL database, but the data will be organized in different places on the end document depending on the state. Each state's template (some states have different formats for each county) will also have different fonts, borders, and labels, so I want to be able to create these templates easily, without getting into the code.
Do you know of any Adobe or other technology that can help me do this?

I need help on this same subject.   I am being provided with PDF's from SQL (not sure what software).  A 3000 page PDF comes out to 300mb, and if you open it and save as in Adobe Pro, it takes 10 hrs to consolidate fonts and images, but I then end up with a nice 30mb file.   Even using batch PDF conversion software, it takes 5hrs on a good dedicated machine to flatten these PDF's.  I'm guessing it has a lot to do with how they are handling font embedding and the image (form flash) on each page (same on all pages for each PDF).   What kind of programs should I be looking at to keep the PDF file sizes manageable and where I can work with the files without it taking 10 hrs to save them.   I print about 120,000 images per month..  We save the images for up to 6 months..   With 300mb files this won't work..

  • Using relational data from SQL data source in Planning and Essbase

    Hi,
    How do I take sample data from a SQL data source and bring it into a Hyperion Planning application? I understand that when creating Planning applications, a link between a relational data source and Essbase must be established, because the relational database holds the metadata while the database outline is stored with Essbase. However, all I am currently able to do is load the data into Planning applicaitons via EAS, where I right-click on the Application database, hit load data, and select from either a .txt file or an excel file. Do I need Oracle Data Integrator? Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated, as well as corrections to any incorrect assumptions I may have made in this post. Thank you.

    When you import your file (Excel or text), you're importing it using a Load Rule in EAS. To load from SQL, you simply create a SQL load rule. You'll load data the exact same way (via EAS), but with a different type of load rule. The load rule will contain the SQL that queries the database. You can preview your data in the load rule the same way you would with a file.
    If your SQL is very complex, I'd recommend creating a view and loading from that view. But otherwise it's pretty straight-forward.
    The only catch is that you need to configure a database connection (to your relational database) on the Essbase server. The Essbase DBA guide will show you how to do this.
    You COULD use ODI, but I tend to only use it for loading metadata.
    Hope this helps,

  • Conversion from sql date

    hi
    Am not getting the date in the correct format . Even though teh DB returns me 24-Nov-2008 in java am able to getonly as 0008-11-24

    Once again, a Date does not have a format. You use SimpleDateFormat to give the String representation (i.e. the human readable print) of the Date a format when you display it.
    java.sql.Date date = new java.sql.Date(System.currentTimeMillis());
    System.out.println(date);
    // will produce 2008-11-18
    SimpleDateFormat sdf = new SimpleDateFormat("dd MMM yyyy");
    System.out.println(sdf.format(date));

    Hii Priya,
    The reasons may be the file is open, the format/flatfile structure is not correct, the mapping/transfer structure may not be correct, presence of invalid characters/data inconsistency in the file, etc.
    Check if the flatfile in .CSV format.
    You have to save it in .CSV format for the flatfile loading to work.
    Also check the connection issues between source system and BW or sometimes may be due to inactive update rules.

  • Having difficulty creating pdf from XML data source

    I have a 'rpt' file built with a classic install of Crystal 10, using xml as a data source. I have tried using both ADO.NET(XML) connection and ODBC CR ODBCXML Driver 4.20.
    The rpt file was built on Windows2000 NT platform. The report runs, and displays data from the sample xml file in the preview tab.
    I am attempting to feed xml data into the rpt file with the intent to create pdf formatted output. I am using java with the Crystaldecisions packages. I am running this app out of an Apache server on an Ubuntu VM Hardy Heron release. This does not have any version of Crystal Reports installed on it.
    I have followed the examples and I am comfortable that I have the correct package imports, I am able to open the rpt file, and convert both the xml and xsd to byte arrays. When I issue the command
    reportClientDocument.getDatabaseController().setDataSource(xmlDataSet, '', '')
    I get the response
    Cannot find corresponding table information in the XML file
    Set data source failed: The table 'criminal_case' could not be found.
    Request failed and JRC Command failed to be undone
    JRCAgent1 detected an exception: The table 'criminal_case' could not be found.
    at com.crystaldecisions.reports.reportdefinition.datainterface.g.a(Unknown Source)
    The xsd does validate the xml which contains a noNamespaceSchemaLocation pointer to the xsd.
    The xml is the same data that was used to design the report on the NT box. This means that I see the same elements being byte streamed as were used to create the rpt file.
    Is this as simple as I am running my webserver on Linux? I do see the connection attribute properties reference a Database DLL that is clearly windows based. What can I do?

    So why develop a report if there is no data? I can only think that you have a bunch of static text, maybe an instruction page you want to publish? If so, you still need a data source, it can be a dummy source
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <ROOT/>
    ie no data per se. BIP needs a source even if there is not data to merge.

  • Integrating Apex with Cocoon (does it make pdf from taking data from DB)

    Friends,
    I integrated Apex with appache with cocoon. Its working fine with reports but i want it to work with form on a table or view.The steps below which i have followed for integrating Apex with Cocoon
    Steps of pdf Printing of Report with cocoon:
    1) Download and unzip the following needed files in D:\Apex_fop directory.
    2) Open your command prompt .
    Change the directory to D:\Apex_fop\cocoon-2.1.11.
    Set the Java_Home environment variable as: set JAVA_HOME= C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_21
    then type build war
    3) After getting the prompt back as D:>Apex_fop>cocoon-2.1.11>
    Copy coocon.war file from the folder D:\Apex_fop\cocoon-2.1.11\build\cocoon.

    - Enable Report Printing: Yes
    - Link Label: Print
    - Response Header: Report Settings
    - View File As: Attachment
    - Output Format: PDF
    - Report Layout: Default Report Layout
    - Print URL: f?p=&APP_ID.:1:&SESSION.:FLOW_XMLP_OUTPUT_R1063230002781575
    8) Open up the Report Page and click Print , You will get the pdf report.
    But my requirement is bit different. I have made form on a table or view , so when i am submitting my form the record is getting updated in my database and at the same time a new button is appearing at same page as i have branched it in same page. The new button name is print. I want when i click this print button it should print the record which submitted recently. How can i enable the print functionality on form. Its simple in report but how can it be done on form?
    Looking forward for this to know wthr it is achievable or not and if yes what all are the ways?
    Thanks in advance for all who is going to post here and to them also who is giving their time in reading my thread
    Regards
    Adi

    You could redirect to a report page instead of to the form page. Then simply print the report.
    This makes sense. You would have one page for entering the data and another page for displaying and printing it.

  • Populate PDF from Excel Data

    I have an excel worksheet with employee sales data. this worksheet has a column that has a drop-down list. I want to set it up so that whenever "Warning" is selected from the drop-down, a pdf is created. this pdf will be like a warning notice, and pull certain information from the selected row in excel and populate several fields in the pdf form. I also would want an electronic signature to be at the bottom with a calendar that can pull the date.
    I know that the bulk of this question is probably best answered on an excel forum, but I want to understand the best way to do this with each application...

    Something like this?
    // Import the first row of data from "myData.txt".
    this.importTextData("/c/desktop/myData.txt", 0)
    if (typeof cnt == "undefined") cnt = 0;
    this.importTextData("/c/desktop/textdata.txt", cnt++ % 4)
    // Specify the name of the template
    var template_name = "Student Information Sheet";
    // Get a reference to the template
    var t = getTemplate(template_name);
    // Add a new page based on the template
    if (t !== null) {
        t.spawn({
        nPage: numPages,      // Add the new page to end of document
        bOverlay: false,      // Create a new page, not an overlay
        bRename: true         // Rename the fields
    } else {
       app.alert("The template named \'" + template_name + " does not exist in this document.", 1);
    But how would I tell the new page to take the second row from the chart, and will I have to click the button for each one of the fields in the data?

  • Generate ER Diagram from Sql Data Modeler

    Hi,
    I want to use the Oracle Sql Developer Data Modeler to generate ER diagram for my schema. There are huge number of tables in this schema, so I would like to identify only those tables which need to be selected for generating my ER diagram.
    Basically, I want only those table which are having relationship with other tables here. The reason being, if I select all tables in the schema then I would get those tables in the ER diagram which don't have any relationship with other tables.
    Can someone please suggest writing queries which yield this from data dictionary?
    Thanks.

    Well, your requirement is based on the the database schemas having been designed with proper primary key and foreign key constraints in place.  If they're not there then the database doesn't know about the relationships between tables, and such relationships are just theoretical (and as such usually controlled by the application that uses them).
    Of course there are also tables that are used by applications for lookups and other reasons, so they're part of the application and should be included on ER diagrams, even if they have no direct relationship to any one table (or they could have relationships to many tables).
    So, rather than try and write queries to figure out what tables are required, why not let the Data Modeller tool generate an ER diagram from the information that IS known about on the database, and then you can see if the relationships exist, or if they're missing and need manually putting on the diagram (or applying to the database).

  • Pre-populate PDF from XML data

    I am looking into the feasibility of pre-populating a PDF form using an XML data file. The basic workflow I am investigating is this:
    1. both the PDF form (built in LiveCycle Designer) and XML file would be stored together on a web server.
    2. User would navigate to a web page containing a link to the PDF form, and click to open. The PDF form would open in their browser (using their installed PDF viewer plug in)
    3. the PDF form would be (partially) populated by the data in the XML file automatically
    4. User would fill out the unpopulated portion of the form, and save the resulting PDF to their computer.
    Is this workflow feasible? What are the problem areas? I realize that the the PDF would have to be Reader Extended to allow the user to save it.
    Many thanks for any and all help and direction.
    Matt LL.

    Hi Matt,
    yes, this workflow is perfectly feasible, not really with solely a standard HTTP server though.
    There are a variety of options. The issue is that the process of populating the form can usually not be done without any server-side application of logic.
    - You could use LiveCycle Forms to achieve that. That'd also allow you to use other LC components later on easily , such as Reader Extensions, Process Management or DRM for your documents.
    - You could use Adobe ColdFusion for pre-populating the form from XML, it's super easy (much more straightforward than LC imho). The downside is that CF doesn't have an option to Reader Extend the form for you. That being said, you could get Reader Extensions as a stand-alone module and use it's SOA APIs to hook into your CF code (ColdFusion is basically just an abstraction layer on top of Java).
    Hope that helps to get an idea.
    Cheers
    Kai

  • Creating PDF from ERD (Data Modeler) in readable format

    I created an entity relationship diagram (ERD) using Toad Data Modeler.  I want to save/print it to PDF, which I can just fine.  However, it cuts off tables and is very hard to read.  I'm looking for a format to use that will not cut off the tables.  I've played around with various settings, but can't get it to look right.  Are there specific settings I should be targeting so it won't cut off the diagram?  Thank you!

    Thank you.  I've been playing around with the page size, but it still wants to cut off some of my tables, almost as if I can't get the diagram to size into the size of the PDF margins.  I can't seem to find the magic combination so I figured I must be missing a parameter setting somewhere.  Thank you for your time.

  • Repopulating a pdf from xml data

    Hi
    I'm new to live cycle so forgive any blunders (such as posting in not quite the right area for example).
    What I want to do is:
    1. create a pdf form (Fear not, I'm doing that ok :-)
    2. have multiple respondents fill the form out (thats also ok)
    3. have the xml data sent in with unique id's (I'm unclear as to the mechanics of unique ID's on forms, so if someone expanded on this I'd be grateful).
    4. Take the xml data and repopulate the same form (at a remote location) and preserve that form, as well as hard copy printout.
    I figure that I'll be doing any database work in mysql. Does adobe offer another solution?

    Indeed, now that I've read and understood your answers (which involved a lot of reading of many many other posts) it is clear that I did indeed post to the wrong forum. Apologies, I had no idea that livecycle was a seperate product in fact I thought it was a generic reference.
    Further investigation reveals that livecycle sells for aprox 50K so it is clearly out of the question, however I did come across a post that states version 8 of exchange pro has the ability to allow (turn on in the same way that reader extensions server does) limited form access, ie to save a form. Is that correct?
    Begging your indulgence, where should I be asking this question, sorry!
    PS i have posted a query to sales here in australia to get a costing for reader extensions but I understand it is a per use item so that may also be prohibitive as we are a school and we just want to get our teachers assessments, class plots and such structured the ame way.

  • How can I get a date without the hour from sql server 2000 ?

    hellou!
    I have a JTable, and one of it's columns has to show a date. This date i have to show is specified as datetime on the Sql Server 2000 database where I have to take the data.
    the query of the dataset attached to the JTable is something like "select * from Table".
    The problem is that the JTable column that displays the date shows the date and the hour, for example:
    7/10/04 0:00:00
    and I need to show the date without the hour, only the 7/10/04. Can anyone tell me how to do that?
    thank you very much! : )

    The easiest way to format a date is with java.text.SimpleDateFormat. When creating it you pass a format string which can be used to parse or format date objects.
    SimpleDateFormat formater = new SimpleDateFormat( "MM/dd/yyyy" );
    // Get date objects directly from sql
    Date foundDate = result.getDate( 1 );  //where result is the ResultSet and 1 is the date column
    String formatedDate = formater.format( foundDate );Now the JTable's table model can be adjusted to store a formated String instead of a Date. If for some reason it is required to store the value as a Date overload the table model to return the formated string when getValueAt is called.

  • Mapping SQL data types (especially SMALLINT) to Java classes

    I want to know the reason for a certain pair of exceptions in JDBCs mapping of SQL data types to Java classes.
    Suns web site ( http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/jdbc/getstart/mapping.html ), Sybases site, and other sites contain mappings from SQL data types to Java primitive data types and/or Java classes. On that Sun web page, Section 9.9.1 maps mostly to Java primitive data types, and Section 9.9.3 maps mostly to Java classes. For the SQL data types that map to both primitive data types and classes, the class is typically the wrapper class of the primitive data type. For example, SQLs DOUBLE data type maps to both the double primitive data type and its wrapper class (Double). However, Section 9.7 of that Sun web page says that there are exceptions for SQLs TINYINT and SMALLINT. As expected, they map to the byte and short primitive data types, but they map to the Integer class, not the Byte and Short classes (which are the wrapper classes for byte and short). The web page does not state the reason for this pair of exceptions. It seems to me that SMALLINT data would either work for both short and Short or fail for both short and Short. I dont see why it would work for short but fail for Short (as the web page implies).
    Can anybody think of a reason for the pair of exceptions? Thanks.

    ghs wrote:
    1) If a DBMS deals with the short and byte primitive data types (as the various web pages imply that it does), then why would it not deal with the Short and Byte wrapper classes?As another guess, because conversions get a little weird in java. Or at least they did in the past. As I recall (with not a lot of clarity) it is possible to do something like pass a perfectly valid string value into a short and get an exception. Whereas using Integer and then converting to Short works.
    Keep in mind that these are guesses.
    3) What I really want to know is this: If I use wrapper classes of Short and Byte (instead of Integer), what will be the harmful consequences (IF ANY)? So far, I have done some trivial testing with a Short for a SMALLINT column (I have not yet tried any TINYINT columns), and it seems to be working.I considered it risky to not test all target databases and drivers.
    Obviously testing will reveal problems.
    If you don't want to test then you might want to stick with integers.
