PDF from SWF ?

Hello, I have a SWF which accepts a clients text into a text
input box.
That text is them formatted and output into a dynamic text
box.
The client OK's it, and then I use Loadvars to send the data
to me, however I also want an image of what the client did.
Is there any way to convert that SWF dynamically to a PDF or
other graphic format without using an application server ?
Thanks kindly for any tips.

  • Using Acrobat to create a PDF from .swf files

    I'm trying to beef up a standard powerpoint presentation into something i could have more control over, and was considering Acrobat as it would (i hoped) allow me to import .swf files from Flash. In reading up on just how flexible acrobat is though, it doesn't really seem to have all of the functionality that i want - if anyone could offer feedback on the following, that would be great in terms of clearing up the queries that i have beforehand!
    essentially, i want to create a PDF file which will open fulllscreen on any machine with no toolbars, windows, additional content in the window except my PDF content. So i would have a central shape/box, which would be white, on which i have text.
    I want this to open centrescreen, fullscreen, with no acrobat reader branding / navigation visible at all. Similar to the way a powerpoint document would open, however - i don't want Adobe Reader to scale my PDF at all.
    I've set my canvas in flash to 1024x768, and i would want Reader to display my file at exactly 1024x768 pixels, and not scale the document up to suit different monitors. So in a way, utilising something like you could with a Flash projector file where you could set the fullscreen's "allowscale" function to "false" (keeping the document at exactly 100%) and the actual fullscreen call itself to "true" (display the document in fullscreen mode, taking over your entire monitor).
    Also, i would want to specify a 'background', which is simple in flash as i can just create an oversized movie clip with whatever i want to appear in the background, and this will cover any excess area in monitors that exceed my canvas size. (So i usually create a movie clip of an image or gradient for the background that measures 2600 x 1600 pixels). Will acrobat be able to render this correctly, or is it just going to display the actual canvas size and exclude my oversized 'background' movie clip? If i use my 1024 x 768 canvas, will it clip the big background movie clip to fit?
    Thanks folks... bit long winded but i just wanted to make sure i've covered the bases!

    Like it or not, InDesign is a color managed application, and your files are all being managed.
    You'll always have less grief if the working spaces match the output, but that isn't always possible. If you want to to convert to the profiles specified in the CSF file, choose one of the "Convert to Profile" settings and select the correct profile as the destination. You'll have two options, preserve numbers, or don't preserve numbers.
    Preserving numbers will cause colors to shift, but will preserve 100% K blacks. Not preseving numbers will change the numbers to give you the closes match possible in appearance, but will royally screw up your 100% K type if going to press.

  • Unable to generate a PDF from SWF

    Hi,
    I am using SWF file as my form. I am unable to generate the form data into PDF with pdfgenerator Livecycle ES2.
    Does anyone facing the problem?? any help on this....
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    Even we are trying to convert SWF file to PDF file and it is not working out. I believe that we should have Acrobat 9.0 or higher in order to use Generate PDF service. We have Adobe Reader version 9.3.1.
    Please help.

  • Turning the page in a pdf from inside a swf video

    I am creating interactive PDFs from InDesign. On the first page of the pdf I have a swf video in which I would like to put a link or a button that would move you to page 2 of the pdf. Not another frame of the video or URL, but just the next page of the PDF. Is it possible to do this? And if so, how?

    You don't make it clear what you're using. A "SWF" is a Flash file, and a video is a video. A SWF can load and play a video, but "SWF video" means nothing.
    If you're talking about a SWF file created in Flash, then inside your SWF you will have to fire an ExternalInterface command using ActionScript:
    ExternalInterface.call(“eval”, “pageNum++”);
    If you're talking about a video file embedded in the PDF and using the default playback widget, then you can't do it.

  • Launch an attachment from SWF embedded in PDF

    Goal: To launch a PDF attachment from the embedded SWF (in PDF).
    Scenario: I have created a PDF with a SWF embedded in it and I have few attachments also in the same PDF. Now based on some user input I want to open one of the attachment in the PDF.
    Question: How do I open an attachment (in PDF) from a SWF embedded in the same PDF.
    Any help will be a big help :).
    Cheers !!

    First, you can only do this with Acrobat 9. Older methods for embedding SWF's didn't allow for this level of communication between the SWF and the PDF.
    Second, to do it, you would add some ActionScript to your SWF that would use the hostContainer methodology to connect to the PDF and then use the appropriate JS methods.

  • Protecting EXE, PDF and SWF files from piracy

    I am hoping others in the community have some experience with protecting their Captivate output (EXE and SWF files) from piracy.  We will be selling our eLearning products developed with Captivate through our online store and want to protect them against file sharing and other forms of piracy.  I have found several companies online offering DRM (digital rights management) and SAS (software activation services) that require users to enter a license key to use the products.  I am looking for any recommendations from users who have implemented these types of services.  What provider did you use and what issues did you encounter.  Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Jason

    Most of the tools I have seen are geared towards extracting
    resources from swf's. I use one myself (eltima.com) for
    "harvesting" manufacturers content for my motorcycle dealers. They
    are authorized to use this content, but finding someone at Yamaha
    of Kawasaki or any of the majors who even knows where to find these
    resources is next to impossible. I have also used it to learn from
    by viewing scripts, but as you say, at the end of the day, I think
    the concepts and best practices are about the only thing worth
    taking away from others efforts, not the code.
    Unlocking a protected file can be done as well and I remember
    using a product over a year ago to get at the scripts within an swf
    (I wanted the URL's that pointed to media - it was legal for me to
    do this). It ran from the command line and output the scripts.
    There aren't too many of these types of programs to be found, but
    they exist.
    My personal opinion is that it's not worth the effort. My
    java classes can be decompiled and if someone wants to go to that
    trouble, more power to them. To my knowledge, there isn't anything
    out there yet that is perfect for backwards engineering an swf into
    an MXML file, but a competitor of FLASH Decompiler says that they
    can decompile Adobe 9 PLAYER swf's. For what it's worth, I plan on
    posting the majority of my code on my flexdev.org site once I get
    it established.
    For people who make components for sale, this could be an
    issue of stolen revenue if the decompilers get sophisticated enough
    to reverse engineer the swc into a usable MXML file. I would be
    against anyone who stole code for this purpose, for sure.

  • How do i add a video in a PDF from an URL

    My dilemma: Creating an Interactive PDF using java and I would like to add various streaming video's throughout the pdf from url.  I would like them to run within the pdf.  I would like people to be able to play them, and then play them again if they need to listen again, aka, loop, I guess.
    My attempts: I have added the video from url using adobe acrobat pro editor and video is playing as i needed but i would like to do it from java sourc. i can do it from adobe acrobat pro editor and working fine .
    Could anyone please help or explain me how do adobe do that and how do adobe handle this from backend or how can i do that from java.This is urgent .

    Adobe doesn't provide support for third-party Java libraries, nor can you control Acrobat from an external Java program; if yours can't do what you need then you will have to add the classes yourself. The ISO 32000 standard for PDF explains what's required to define a Rich Media Annotation; it's not a lot different from a regular annot at the top level, and inside you have COS streams for the embedded player widget (a SWF file) and local media (or a URI pointing to some remote media), plus tags to define how the playback works. People have ported these features to LaTeX and PHP, it's time-consuming but not hard if you know how to code.
    Note there is no 'loop' setting for an RMA, you would have to implement that yourself with a custom player widget.

  • Buttons not exporting to PDF from CS5

    Howdy, all. I've a problem exporting documents containing buttons to PDF. Specifically, CS5 doesn't export interactive buttons placed in my InDesign document to interactive buttons in a PDF file; they show up, instead, as simple, non-interactive graphics. (No pointing fingers, no actions.)
    This is true for all documents I have created in or imported into CS5.
    As a test, I went back to CS4 and created a document with a single button chosen from the "Sample Buttons," to which I attached the "Next Page" action. Exporting to PDF from CS4 works fine; I get a functioning Next Page button in the resulting PDF file. Opening the same InDesign document in CS5 and exporting with the same settings to PDF yields a non-functioning button graphic appearing on the PDF page.
    Opening the PDF file in BBEdit, I see that there is no "Fields" entry in the PDF file's Catalog dictionary, so it seems as though the button is, indeed, being exported into the PDF file as a simple graphic.
    What obscure CS5 setting (presumably hiding in plain sight) am I missing?
    By the way, CS5 does export the buttons correctly to swf.
    Thanks much.
    - John

    In CS5 you have to change the export type to an 'Adobe PDF (Interactive)' to get the buttons to work.
    Bit of a pain because you can't save presets like you can with the standard PDF export, but you can specify some of the PDFs view settings at the same time.  In my view they should have just added all that functionality to the standard PDF export, but perhaps that wasn't possible.  However it was a dud decision to remove working button export from the other PDF export.

    Hi,
    I have a similar requirement where I need to show the preview of a document in a popup.
    I have a button and I added "af:fileDownloadActionListener" into the button, then I wrote the following code in my bean for the downloadactionlistener:
    public void showPreviewDownloadListener(FacesContext facesContext,
    java.io.OutputStream outputStream) throws IOException{
    DCIteratorBinding agr = getBindingsForDCB().findIteratorBinding("xyz");
    Row row = ag.getRowSetIterator().getCurrentRow();
    String fileName = (String)row.getAttribute("FileName");
    String fileType = (String)row.getAttribute("FileType");
    BlobDomain file = (BlobDomain)row.getAttribute("FileData");
    try {
    InputStream inputStream = file.getBinaryStream();
    byte[] buf = new byte[1024];
    int count;
    while ((count = inputStream.read(buf)) >= 0) {
    outputStream.write(buf, 0, count);
    inputStream.close();
    outputStream.flush();
    outputStream.close();
    file.closeInputStream();
    docPreviewInlineFrame.setSource(fileName);
    //ADFUtils.setEL("#{pageFlowScope.docSource}", "../"+fileName);
    ADFUtils.invokePopup(docPreviewPopup,true);
    catch(IOException ioex) {
    ioex.printStackTrace();
    when I'm clicking my button, all it does is open a popup to view/download the while.
    My own popup (with a dialog and an internalFram in it) does not get invoked at all.
    Also the file that I'm referring is from DB, can anyone also suggest me how to set the source for the inline frame if the file is from DB?
    Thanks in advance,
    Swapna

    Thanks for guidance Ross,
    As suggested by you, I have used server side technology to run it in the backend from www.swftools.org
    It is installed but swf generated from pdf here doesn't have navigation button and zoom option but it play automatically after some second interval.
    I have refered to all documentation related but with no clue.
    Could you please sort me out how to put navigation button and zoom option button in generated swf?

  • Undesired scaling when printing from SWF

    Greetings, all -
    I'm helping a client develop a solution for making certain
    proprietary documents available on their Web site. The goal is to
    make it easy for visitors to print the documents, but not to
    download them, modify them or copy text from them. Since the
    documents start out in PDF format (well, actually in QuarkXPress,
    but the typesetter sends them to my client as PDFs), it seemed like
    a good plan to convert the PDFs to SWF using Print2Flash, and then
    set up a custom Flash UI on the site that displays requested
    documents and offers a Print button -- but no Select Text tool (to
    prevent copying text) and no link to a downloadable PDF.
    The Flash UI has been developed and we are now in a testing
    phase, but a fairly major problem has surfaced. To my surprise, the
    printed output is being scaled to a smaller size than the actual
    document, seemingly without regard to print driver settings. When I
    became aware of the problem I created two test documents in
    Microsoft Publisher -- one with a simple rectangle (1-pixel black
    border, no fill) whose edges sit exactly 0.25-inch from the page
    edges, and another with the same rectangle but at 0.5-inch from the
    edges. I created SWF files from these documents (actually I tried
    both Publisher -> PDF -> SWF and Publisher directly to SWF,
    but the results were identical) and printed them from the Flash UI.
    The 0.25-inch document produced output that placed the top and left
    borders at 0.34375-inch (11/32) from the page edge, the right
    border at 0.5-inch, and the bottom border at 0.59375-inch (19/32).
    The 0.5-inch document placed the top and left borders at 0.625-inch
    (5/8), the right border at 0.75-inch (3/4) and the bottom border at
    0.8125-inch (13/16). So not only is the output being scaled, but
    it's actually being distorted as the scaling isn't uniform.
    I suppose I should mention here that it's extremely important
    to my client that these documents print at their proper dimensions,
    or at least as close to that ideal as possible. The results I'm
    getting now just aren't acceptable, and I'm not sure what to do.
    A few more facts from my testing:
    - If I print these test documents directly from MS Publisher,
    OR from a PDF version, the results are accurate and properly sized.
    - It would seem that our custom Flash UI is not at fault,
    because opening these SWF documents in the standalone Flash Player
    gives the same results.
    - Not EVERY printer I tested gives bad results; one inkjet
    printer (Epson R200) outputs the documents accurately, and that's
    without any special "borderless" or "maximum printable area"
    options turned on. However, every laser printer I've tested so far
    has produced the scaled-down version. The only exception has been a
    high-end imaging unit that offers a "full bleed" option -- when
    that's turned on, that printer produces accurate results.
    In order for this solution to be workable, we really can't
    ask the users to mess around with tweaking options in their print
    drivers -- some users have trouble finding and adjusting these
    options, and with thousands of drivers out there it's impossible to
    predict how they're labeled in order to provide clear instructions.
    Again, when I print these test documents from PDF or Publisher, no
    special settings are required to get accurate output.
    Given how popular Flash has become, it's hard for me to
    believe that no one else has encountered this problem; it would
    surprise me if we're doing anything that's terribly unique or
    unusual. At the same time, I understand that most Flash content is
    intended to be an onscreen experience rather than being oriented
    toward printing hard copy. In any case, my searches of this forum
    haven't turned up anything that seems to match my situation. So I
    guess I'm hoping that someone here has run into this before, or at
    least that someone has a broad enough knowledge of Flash to know of
    certain code parameters that need to be tweaked in the Player
    and/or in our SWF files to get us closer to the accurate output we
    need.
    I apologize for my wordiness...I'm just trying to supply as
    much data as possible and anticipate some of the questions that
    would likely come up. I'll close now and await your responses.
    Needless to say, I would appreciate ANY input. And of course, if
    this HAS been covered and answered in another thread somewhere,
    please point me there and accept my apologies for the redundancy.

  • Convert pdf to swf using Flashpaper2

    When I convert a pdf (from client) to swf using Flashpaper2
    the Flashpaper SWF pages are longer or taller than the original pdf
    pages...so a white area appears above and below the content of each
    converted page. These pages have alot of images in them. Anyone
    have any ideas as to how to get the pages to match the originals
    perfectly? Thank You

    This is an issue about pdf to swf conversion, some pdf files contain images may result in the problem of the compression and the resolution balance.
    And it will fit in with the flash player but ignore proper ratio of the content. But i am using a pdf to swf converter which will automatically shrink or stretch the image size for the swf image.
    But still look forward to better solution about this........be well!

  • Interactive PDF with SWF animation goes white between pages

    I am creating an interactive PDF in Indesign CC 2014, each page contains a SWF animation. The PDF is set to turn to the next page every few seconds. I get a white screen between pages. HELP! I don't know where this could be coming from.

    SWF files take time to load. That’s probably what you’re seeing and
    there’s no way to avoid it.

  • Is there any way to "Print to PDF" from Acrobat?

    In Windows, you can open a PDF in Acrobat and print it to a PDF.  This isn't behavior isn't available in the Mac version—trying to use "Save as PDF" and "Save as Adobe PDF" both produce the following error message:
    Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save.
    Is there any way to print to a PDF from Acrobat Pro X on a Mac (running Snow Leopard)?
    Note: There's a utility to being able to print from a PDF to PDF (which I why I suspect it's available in the Windows version), so "You're doing it wrong—just Click File > Save" would not be a very helpful response.  I'm sure there are other uses for the functionality, but in my case in particular I need to split each page of a scanned PDF in which each page contains two pages of the original document.  Printing to a PDF provides an easy way to do this, but I'm open to a more appropriate solution if it's available.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Adobe removed the ability to "refry" (make a PDF from a PDF) several versions ago.
    what you need is to go to document and choose Remove (delete) pages (if it’s a duplicate Page)
    You can also extract pages, add pages and so on. See this:
