PDF LAYOUT QUESTION

Hey everybody, I have an indesign file that I need to export as a PDF file. The problem is that my pages are set up SIDE BY SIDE and I want them ONE ON TOP OF THE OTHER. I want my ebook to read as one page on top of the other. I have attached a couple photos to this thread to better clarify what I am talking about. Thanks.
I dont want it like this
I want it like this

There weere a couple of references in the other thread to scripts. The first script toggles exporting as spreads for interactive PDF. That's probably the easiest thing to try first (Please make a copy of the file and play with that, rather than risking damage to the existing file). Do you know how to download and install a script? If not, see How to install scripts in InDesign | InDesignSecrets
The other user was unsuccessful using that technique because of his videos. You may not have the same trouble, but if you do, the next step would be to run the first script again to reset the options, then download the second script that splits facing pages documents apart at the spine and run that on a copy of the file, then export.
If that doesn't work, you need to make the file non-facing pages. That's going to be a real pain in the neck if you have a two-page master with asymmetrical master page objects, but try the other tow things first, and if that doesn't work, come back again and someone will explain how to convert to non-facing pages.

  • How to:  make a new document in Pages based a Pdf layout (same measures)

    Hi,
    hope someone can help me,
for a couple of days I have been on Google looking for a solution, but I can't find any
I have a macbook ( Mavericks) and iWork / PAGES to make bussinesscards, invitations, flyers ....
From the online printershop Flyer.be  I received a PDF- layout with the exact messures on how my documents must be.
I know that from Pages I can tranfer my new made documents to PDF (as the printershop requiers) that's no problem
    BUT
how do I import their PDF-layout into PAGES?
can this be done in Automator, if yes, How?
can I convert their PDF to a Template for PAGES?
if I don't use their PDF- layout but simply use the original Templates that are in PAGES (for example: envelop), the messures are never the same as those required by the printershop,  how can I solve this?
Dus: I need to find out how to use their messures and be able to work in iWork.
Hope it's clearly explaned - as my native language is Dutch
    Anyone ? any idee?
    Thanks in advance.
    Greetings Speedy

That is not a template for a Business Card. It looks like the template for a Compliments Slip 210 x 100mm.
Also you do not use the Ruler to position things accurately, you use:
    Format > Arrange > Size/Position
It looks like the Printer wants each item to be its own document, with Page setup to final size.
There will be a problem however with the page bleed (the image that goes off the edge of the paper) because Pages does not have this.
    Swift Publisher does.
PDF files are usually not editable, but Adobe Illustrator will open them and edit them and has all the tools you need to format the Stationery.
Sketch can also open and edit pdfs now and is IMHO absolutely brilliant as well as beautiful to look at.

  • How to define PDF layout when exporting?

With Discoverer 10g 10.1.2.45.46c, is it possible to define the PDF layout (landscape vs. portrait) and also can I shrink the report to fit x pages?
If not, are these future features?

In Viewer, the export to PDF and print to PDF generate identical output. If you want to change the size or the layout of the PDF output, go to the Page Setup screen in Viewer and set the page options appropriately. Then, when you click to send the worksheet by email and select PDF as the export format, the generated PDF will pick up the layout properties from the page setup options.
    More information:
In the print dialog in both components you can do the following and more:
    - Specify the paper size (A4, Letter, etc...)
    - Specify a shrink value (i.e. shrink to 40, 50, 60%, etc..)
    - Specify that the print output should fit in 3x4, or 2x4 pages, etc...
All this is documented in detail in the Discoverer doc.
For Discoverer Plus, take a look at Ch 18 of the Oracle® Business Intelligence Discoverer Plus User's Guide, 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.1), B13915-04
For Discoverer Viewer take a look at the Oracle® Business Intelligence Discoverer Viewer User's Guide, 10g Release 2 (10.1.2.1), B13987-04.
Ch 4 - Dialog reference - has a section titled: "Printable Page Options page: Content tab" which should give you some idea of the print capabilities available there.

  • Multiple edition magazine layout question

    Magazine(s) layout question
    Details:
    - There are 9 total magazines. The only thing that changes are the ads.
    - I have all text set up in Master Pages and the Different publications set up as 'versions' in my file.
    My issue:
I also need to ad a footer master (with page number, Publication name, and Date)
    - Publication name changes for each version.
In the end I need one master with all magazine text assigned to all version. And a different footer master with page numbers to all versions....
any suggestions on how to complete this?

Either you can use Alternative Layouts in one document, you will need only to work on the first layout, the text in the outher layouts or you can the Content-Tools and Create LInk option to take the original and place it into the new document. Later you have only to update the links in the link panel. You can take by option the whole page with all elements.

  • Book layout question due to lack of functionality in InDesign

I am a doctoral student (cancer cell biology) starting to write my dissertation (in Word 2007) and I'm using InDesign CS3 (5.0.4) for the layout (I refuse to layout figures and tables in Word... tried it... giant pain in the a$$).  My original plan was to create a Book in InDesign and have each chapter be a separate file.  Due to the bibliography software I need to use the Word file has to be a single file (see this thread for details).  InDesign cannot just Place a range of pages (it's seems to be all or nothing) and this creates a problem (see the previous thread).
The question I have, is it smart to break each chapter out into a separate file?  My thinking was that since I would be bringing in a fair number Photoshop and Illustrator files into each chapter it would be wise to keep the file size down (I'm not doing this on the best of computers, at least by graphic designer standards) and it would make rearranging a little easier (my mentor has a habit of changing his mind and chapter 3 could easily switch places with chapter 7).
This is my first book so any thoughts or advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Adrian.

Nah, it's just me.  My mentor wants paper output for the markup, the committee will take a PDF or paper and the university has (thankfully) instituted an electronic submission criteria.  The final product has to be a PDF to the school and I'll have some output to paper and bound for my mentor, my family (as a gift) and myself.
The two students before me did everything in Word and yeah you can make Word do it but I just don't hassle with it.  I make religious use of styles in Word (and only 4 styles at that... talked to a graphic designer who does books for a living "Keep the styles to minimum!!"... Done), so getting it into InDesign is cake.  Also, my mentor has a nasty of habit of constantly changing his mind and doing things like, "Can you move that picture about a centimeter to left, I just want a little space in there".  I have been through this with Word, it will do it but the voices in your head will start suggesting that you kill again (and nobody wants that).  I plan on doing my grants this way, manuscripts this way, everything.  Everybody (NIH, journals, other funding sources) requires a PDF now and some require rather optimized PDFs (people think I'm crazy but I swear there is a difference between the PDFs that InDesign outputs and the ones that my wife's Mac does--just using the built-in PDF renderer or some of the other PDF creators for Windows), so I just went ahead and went through a tutorial on VTC.com and then read a couple of books.  I wouldn't be able to layout a magazine but I can do grants, manuscripts, dissertations.

  • Pdf layout

    Hi,
I am currently generating a pdf in a web template by adding a button with export functionality.Every time i generate a pdf i get a dialog box where in i can specify the layout ex: header, footer etc.
    Couple of questions.
    1. While defining the button i have option of setting these parameters, but settings made here are not reflected in pdf. I still have to set the footer and header in the dialog box when i generate pdf.
2.I have the option of turning of the expert dialog box which i did, but when i click the button no pdf is generated instead a window of the current reports opens up.
Is there anyway set the layout setting and turn off the expert/export dialog box so when the end user clicks on the button he does not need to set the layout . all he gets is a pdf format of the report.
    Thanks in Advance .

    Hi Guys,
Were any of you able to solve the problem

  • Printing and Signing PDF Security Questions

    Hi,
I noticed one of the PDF security features for Acrobat 8.0 is to set the printing permissions between "None", "150 DPI", and "High Resolution". However, when I print between two PDF's with 150 DPI and max resolution, I honestly can barely notice the difference between the two (the 150 DPI is "slightly" worst, i.e. letters are slightly more jaggedly). I was wondering is this normal, as I was hoping the lower setting would make the printout hard to read, not just a "quick-print" (I used a Laser Printer with 1200 DPI). I don't mean to make a big deal out of it, but I personally do not think this a very useful feature from a security standpoint.
Secondly, I'm having trouble creating signable PDF's. I basically want the file to only allow a user to sign, and nothing else, so I set the "Changes allowed" to just "filling in forms and signing existing signature fields". But doesn't seem to work, because instead I have to set it to allow "any except extracting page". Only then can I sign the PDF, but then this also allows it to be changed (which I don't want). Is there something wrong with what I'm doing? Any help is appreciated!

It's a very common question, and as Michael says there's not a lot you can do. Even doing the imposition yourself is unlikely to help, as most commercial raster image processors (RIPs - the software which turns your document with its fonts, graphics etc into the pattern of dots needed to physically generate the image on the printing drum) need unencrypted files.
If the print shop has an ad-hoc workflow which supports encryption (such as printing direct from Acrobat in the way desktop users do), there are plugins for Acrobat to handle the page imposition; but it's not something native to the application and the printer will have to give you very precise directions as to what layout to create. Many print shops won't entertain that idea unless there's an overriding commercial reason, as it's too much hassle for them to deal with errors in the client plates. Worth asking, but I doubt they'll agree to it.
Given the need to send unsecured files to an external contractor for printing, your "protection" is in the form of the contract, not digital encryption. The former can be settled in court if they break the terms, the latter can be bypassed in ten seconds and you'll probably never know. If the files are truly too sensitive to send to anyone, it's time to get yourself a laser printer - these days the machines many local print shops rely on are in essence a color photocopier, and you can rent them for about the same price.

  • Oracle Reports - PDF layout

    Hi,
    I've just 2 questions:
1 - when i run a Report from my Report Builder client (Oracle Developer Suite) to produce a PDF report file, the report have just 1 page. When I call the same report via URL (http://<ip adress>:<port>/reports/rwservlet?<report>&[parameters]) for the same output the PDF report file take some information on the second page!!!
It seems to be a different setting of the pagesize, is it possibile?
2 - when i design my report every LINE of my fields on the layout seems to be aligned to others, but when i run a Report to produce a PDF report file Acrobat Reader letme see a kind of disalignment at different percentage of Zoom.
For example at 100% the report seems to be disaligned but at 75% or 131% everything seems to be correct!!!
Could it be a rendering problem of Adobe (Acrobat Reader) ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Bye!!!

  • Web Application Designer - export to XLS/PDF layout

    Hello experts,
I have a situation when Web Report has 6 different data providers. Each of these data providers is assigned to analysis item. So there are 6 analysis items (let's call them AI1, AI2, AI3, AI4, AI5 and AI6). When I do the export to excel or PDF, the layout of the document looks like this:
    AI1
    AI2
    AI3
    AI4
    AI5
    AI6.
However, I need the layout to look like this:
    AI1 AI2
    AI3 AI4
    AI5 AI6.
Is there a way to do that in WAD?
    Thank you in advance!

Here's the excerpt of HTML code if that's what you mean. In WAD my layout looks like this:
    1 2
    3 4
    5 6.
And I want it to look like this when it's exported to excel or PDF. However, when I do the export, the layout changes to:
    1
    2
    3
    4
    5
    6

  • Converting from PDF directly to Java Objects/XML (and PDF format questions)

    Hi,
I posted this originally in the Acrobat Windows forums but was told I might have more luck here, so here goes:
I am desperately trying to find a tool (preferably open source but commercial is fine also) that will sit on top of a PDF and allow me to query it's text for content and formatting (I don't care about images). I have found some tools that get me part of the way there, but nothing that seems to provide an end-to-end solution but is quite lightweight. My main question is WHY are there so many tools that go from PDF to RTF, and many tools that go from RTF to XML, but NONE that I can find that go PDF to XML.
To clarify, by formatting I simply mean whether a line/block of text is bold/italic, and its font size. I am not concerned with exact position on the page. The background is that I will be searching PDFs and assigning importance to whether text is a heading/bodytext etc. We already have a search tool in place so implementing a pure PDF search engine is not an option. I need a lightweight tool that simply allows me to either make calls directly to the PDF OR converts to XML which I can parse.
    Some tools I have tried:
    1) PDFBox (Java Library) - Allows the extraction of text content easily, but doesn't seem to have good support for formatting.
    2) JPedal (Java Library) - Allows extraction of text content easily, and supports formatting IF XML structured data is in the PDF (not the case for my data).
    3)  Nitro PDF (Tool) + RTF to XML (script) - This works quite nicely and shows that PDF to XML is possible, but why do I have to use 2 tools? Also, these are not libraries I can integrate into my app.
    4) iText (Java Library) - Seems great at creating PDFs but poor at extracting content.
I don't really expect someone to give me a perfect solution (although that would be nice!).
Instead, what I'd like to know is WHY tools support PDF to RTF/Word/whatever retaining formatting, and other tools support RTF to XML with the formatting information retained. What is it about PDF and RTF/Word that makes it feasible to convert that way, but not to XML. Also, as I found in 3) above, it is perfectly feasible to end up as XML from PDF, so why do no tools support this reliably!
Many thanks for any advice from PDF gurus.

XML doesn't mean anything - it's just a generic concept for structuring
information.  You need a specific GRAMMAR of XML to mean anything.  So what
grammar would you use?  Something standard?  Make up your own?
However, there are a number of commercial and open source products that can
convert PDF to various XML grammars - SVG, ABW, and various custom grammars.
But the other thing you need to understand is that most PDF files do not
have any structure associated with them (as you saw when using JPEDAL).  As
such, any concepts of paragraphs/sections/tables/etc. Are WILD GUESSES by
    the software in question.

  • Issue with RTF layout vs. PDF layout

I'm creating a report that needs to have output for both PDF and RTF. I have a simple request, I need to have 1 line drawn in the report. No data issues or anything else, just a simple line.
I've used the auto-shape menu to draw a line and it appears in my PDF output but not my RTF output. I've also tried having a table be in my layout and just show the bottom or top border. The problem with that is that in the RTF output, the user will see the other lines of the table whether I like it or not.
In the BI Pub manual it says, 'BI Publisher supports Microsoft Word drawing, shape, and clip art features. You can add these objects to your template and they will be rendered in your final PDF output.' Anyone know if this is worded this way because Oracle knows it won't work in your RTF output?
    Thanks!

Could you test it to be according to the following step?
    Step 1:
You must get the following values from application.
              SELECT xt.template_code

  • Xml publisher pdf layout in ebs is incorrect

    Hi,
I am doing a pdf report for a pre-printed layout.
My layout has to be exact for all pages.
i have a grouping on top of my layout..
when runing it in ebs the first page on top has less space , and the other pages has more space on top of the page.
but the 2nd, 3rd, etc... has the exact layout
can it be the G (grouping) on top of my page that is causing this problem?
and how would i solve this??

Can someone on Apps 11.5.10.2 who has applied the patch (I believe it upgrades the server version to 5.6.3) check and see if the behavior I described is the same on their system?
Or can someone tell me if this is expected?
    Thanks again.

    Hi,
I too experienced similar problems recently -  used to get errors like SOFFICEINTEGRATION143, SOFFICEINTEGRATION141 & SOFFICEINTEGRATION101(Memory protection error for OLE Container) while accessing Layout of Interactive Forms.
I got it resolved by uninstalling the NWDS (which uninstalls Adobe LiveCycle Designer (ALD) as well) and then reinstalling ALD and NWDS (Optional).
With the NWDS installation, ALD is also bundled.
If you need to install ALD separately, you may get the right ALD version from
SAP Support Portal->Downloads-> Entry by Application Group->
Support Packages and Patches-> SAP NetWeaver-> SAP NETWEAVER-> SAP NETWEAVER 7.0-> Entry by Component-> Frontend  =>> ADOBE LIVECYCLE DESIGNER 8.0 -> #OS independent.
    Hope this helps.

  • Photoshop images with spot channels in Indesign CS6 (layout question)

I've got an Indesign CS6 layout that will have a spot varnish when it goes to press. Right now I've got a layout with psd files that have spot channels in them that will be used for the spot varnish.
My question is, in Indesign when I'm laying this out should I have one layer with all the psd artwork (with no spot channels) and then a layer on top of that with the psd files with the psd layers turned off with the spot channel showing? I want to make this easy to print in the office so by doing it this way I could just turn the spot layer off and print.
Will this work for the printer?
layer 1 psd files with no spot channels
layer 2 psd files with photoshop layers turned off with the spot channel showing

Besides the obvious extra work of tracking 2 images, there would be potential problems if the images needs to be scaled and moved, and you would have to assume people downstream would know what's going on—should the layer be on or off?
I would double check with the current printer—they should know the only way to view a spot is via Sep or Output preview by turning CMYK off—magenta could just as easily be process as  spot.
Take a closer look at the Alias method. Here it is with your magenta defined SPOT VARNISH.
With SPOT VARNISH set as No Alias in Ink Manager and with Overprint turned on:
And with an additional spot color defined as white named CLEAR VARNISH. When you need to print in house alias SPOT VARNISH to CLEAR VARNISH and check Simulate Overprint in the Print dialog. You can get to Ink Manger via the Print>Output dialog or Swatches panel:

  • PhotoShop CS2 and PDF Presets question.

    Hello,
I have installed the recent free release of Adobe Photoshop CS2 on my Win 8.1 PC.
I am creating the artwork for a CD Cover, by using a CYMK template from CD-Baby.
They require that the finished artwork be submitted to them in PDF format, using the [PDF/X-4:2008] preset.
I found that Photoshop CS2 didn't come with this preset, but after searching the web, I came across this forum whereby a user posted a link to a "JobOptions" archive file at...
         http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16243351/joboptions.rar
... I downloaded this RAR file and found that there was a file inside called "x4;2008.joboptions"
I installed this preset by the 'EDIT/Adobe PDF Presets/' route, and it seemed to successfully install the preset.
    (No errors at least).
Now when I go to save my finished project as PDF, I am given the choice of...
    * [PDF/X-1a:2001]
    * [PDF/X-3:2002]
    * x4;2008
(this is the exact description of each preset).
My only question is, do you think the desired [PDF/X-4:2008] was correctly installed?,
I'm not sure since the naming format is not exactly the same as the first 2 presets descriptions.
    Thank you.

    thanks for your reply  Mylenium.
is it possible that this user preset might not exactly conform to the desired preset I'm after?
is there any way I can get a genuine copy of the factory preset [PDF/X-4:2008]?
    thanks.
