PDF printer not working, does not create PDF

I am using Mac OS X 10.6.8 with Adobe Acrobat XI.
Whenever I try to print a PDF though the printer function the PDF printer opens for a few seconds and no PDF is created.
Here is an example of the report when I open a file with in the Acrobat Distiller:
Adobe PDF-Einstellungen: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings/Smallest File Size.joboptions
%%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand:   Ìıÿ FÂΩ1ÔÁ˛t∑ DOCUMENT p  ]%%
%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%
%%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %%
Dauer: 2 Sekunden (00:00:02)
**** Jobende ****
Can anybody help?
Thank you.

Thanks for the answere.
I still have the above mentioned problem when trying to print a pdf from a pdf (to reduce size) and when trying to print a pdf out of Indesign ( I dont want to use the export to pdf function because of file size).
When tryiing to print a pdf from a pdf through adobe acrobat pro the printer menue opens. When I click on printer I can choose the option choose 'save as Adobe PDF' but then the error message appears that saving as a pdf while printing is not supported. That I should choose file - save.  Is that the only way to do it? The file gest bigger instead of smaller, even when I use a low resolution for the pictures. Can't I print  PDFs as PDF somehow through the Distiller.
When I try to print a PDF with Indesign the Indesign-printing window appears. When I click on the printer and choose 'save as PDF' the Indesign simply jumps back to ints own printer window and ignores my choice. Therefor it does not seem to be possible to print a pdf from Indesign through the PDF printer?!
Thankful for any comments.

I was able to register it though.

Not a surprise. The Acrobat 8 product family passed into End of Support back in 2011.

  • Adobe PDF Printer not working in Illustrator since 9.3.2 update.

    Greetings all,
Since updating Acrobat Pro to 9.3.2 I've not been able to print to PDF from Illustrator using the Adobe PDF Printer (Adobe PDF 9.0 in my printer list).
I've tried several restarts and have also removed the printer and run the Repair Acrobat Installation from the Help menu of Acrobat to reinstall the printer, but problem remains.
I've also tried printing from other programs (namely Thunderbird, Firefox and Photoshop) and the printer has worked fine so I suspect this my be isolated to Illustrator.
No error messages are given and the Illustrator print jobs are listed as Completed in the printer job list but no files are created.
I've got a work-around, printing to Postscript file then converting to PDF in Distiller and it seems to be working fine, but not my ideal solution.
I've checked for updates in Illustrator but none are available.
    System details:
    OS X 10.5.8 (MacBook Pro 15", around 2.5yrs old)
Adobe Creative Suite CS 3, Acrobat Pro 9.3.2, Illustrator 13.0.2
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks,
    Dave

I've never liked the Save As PDF option in Illustrator. Though the quality is excellent, in my experience it creates bloated PDFs that are often too big to email.
Take for example the file that prompted my original post. If I print to PDF (or in this case use my workaround, creating a PS file, then converting to PDF in Distiller) using my Hi Rez preset, the final PDF is 648K. If I Save As PDF using the same preset, the final file is 5.5Mb! A ridiculous size for a CMYK flyer measuring just 134x70mm.
The reason for the size increase is obvious when the big pdf is opened in Illustrator: all the bits and pieces outside the artboard and on hidden layers are all preserved. In reality, it's just the same as the original Illustrator file seeing as Illustrator's native AI format is pretty much a pdf in all but name only.
Do you know of a way to use the Save As PDF command that eliminates the unwanted material and gets the file size down? That would really make my day!
What I wish for is an Export To PDF command as found in InDesign. That seems to give the best of both worlds.

  • MS Outlook 2010 Add in Create pdf - does not create pdf of draft emails- Adobe Acrobat Pro X

In MS Outlook 2010 Add in Create pdf- does not create pdf of draft emails- this maybe the case, but just wanted to make sure this is normal for the program- though I guess one can print as an Adobe pdf but it does not maintain the hyperlinks of email addresses etc. the functionality is compromised in a print vs create a pdf.

Here's a workaround by the team:
Right click on the message from Explorer list view or folder view and chose the option to convert to PDF.

  • PDF document apparently not created, because it does not appear

I am temporarily booting up from a cloned backup of my hard drive located on an external hard drive, because my G4 Powerbook (containing my actual hard drive) is being repaired.  I use Acrobat Standard 7.0, on a Tiger operating system (Mac OS X v. 10.4.11).
Normally, I create a PDF version of a Word document by simply printing it to PDF -- selecting “Adobe PDF 7.0” in the Print dialogue.  Briefly after hitting “print,” a PDF document named “TemporaryCustom_PS_File” appears on the desktop.  Now, however, no PDF document of any sort appears -- on the desktop or anywhere else I can detect.  (A smart search reveals no relevant document has been newly created or modified, or appropriately named, etc.)
I am hopeful this problem will not continue when and if I am again able to use my hard drive.  But, in the meantime, how can I rectify this?

PS: Perhaps I should add that I am printing from a CLASSIC version of Word, so the print dialogue box does not offer such things as “PDF options,” “Save as PDF,” or even “Copies & Pages.”  It is very basic -- just identifies the printer as “Adobe PDF 7.0” and lets me choose a page range.  (Only “destinations” available are “Printer” and “File.”)

My first thought is to make sure the fonts used are common. If there is a substitution, things will be off.

Why can I not create a PDF from a web page on my Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro on my new Windows 8 computer? It worked fine on my windows XP system?

Acrobat 8 is not compatible with Windows 8,  for the simple reason it was
created much before it and Adobe could not participate the changes to the
OS that Microsoft implemented many years later on. You need to buy the
    current version for compatibility.

  • How do I fix this and see the error message when Adobe does not create a pdf from word?

I have a trial version of Adobe X and it will not create a pdf.  A short message comes up but disappears before I can see what the problem is. Please help me fix this?

Possibly, though there isn't much to go on. Let's start with the basics.
Can you start the Acrobat application? It will sit there, looking like Adobe Reader or something?
If so, can you open an existing PDF, if you have one?
Ok, now creating a PDF. There are MANY ways to do this, so what steps are you following, and where does it fail?

  • I downloaded the Acrobat 11 trial and  I can open the product. During the install it deleted the existing print driver and did not install a new print driver so I CAN Not create and print pdf files.

What OS? Have you tried a repair and updates from the HELP menu? The updates may be the key.

  • PDF printing not working

So I I change to another user on the windows XP computer it will print PDF's but in one persons profile on the computer it starts and then freezes when it tries to print.  I would just create a new profile but he has lots of customizations.  Is there any setting that can be changed or reset to allow him to print PDF's without creating a brand new windows XP profile?

I have downloaded BI Publisher standalone version
10.1.3.3.1 and configured it with APEX 3.0.1 on
Linux. Report Printing has been enabled for our
tabular form in APEX but the report never displays in
any format (pdf, html, word). The page is blank.
Generating a pdf report gives the following error
message when selecting the 'open' option: Adobe
Reader could not open Zipcode_Table[1].pdf because
it is either not a supported file type or the file
has been damaged. The same happens if the file is
saved and then opened in Adobe Reader. Please
    help!
    Thanks,
    DeniseDenise,
In APEX, first try using the default report layout (its ugly, but it will show at least if your query is producing xml data).
Can you build a small report in APEX, with one or two columns, and build the RTF layout in Word and upload it to you app, and try that as a test..
Next I would recommend looking at the apache logs to see if there are any errors occurring when APEX sends the xml stream to BI Publisher.
Also, have you posted this over in the APEX support forum? The developers of APEX are there and they WILL help you find an answer, Marc the product manger helped me with my BI Publisher/APEX issues..

Could anyone give some inputs on this.

A server exception would suggest you are using Acrobat in the cloud. I don't have an answer in that case other than trying later. Is the Adobe PDF printer indeed installed on your machine or in the cloud?

  • Acrobat 9.4.6 will not create Word PDF.

    Hi --
I have a Adobe Acrobat PRO 9.4.6 installation that can not create a Word 2003 SP3 documents to a PDF. If I create a text file I can covert the file to a PDF.  If I careate a new word documnet file with "hello world", save the file to a DOC or DOCX,  and try to convert it to a PDF the distiller does through the process and simply stops responding.
    OS Vista 32 bit
    office 2003 SP3
Office 2007 compatability pack is installed
I did try removing Acrobat and reinstalling it with the same results.
Any ideas what I should try next?
    Thank you for your assistance.

    Thanks Bill,
Since then this is what I have found.
If I use the Printing feature files can be opened in Solaris Gnome PDF Viewer, but as you know, links and bookmarks will be lost.
I tried to set the backward compatibility option to Acrobat 1.3 (the oldest option) but somehow it always resets to 1.6 when I save the PDF file.
All fonts are embedded and I have reinstalled Acrobat just in case.
I tried with different PDF converters and so far Foxit Phantom PDF works fine with Solaris (and also cheap). It gets stuck when there is a complicated line drawings in the Word file, but otherwise it has been stable and bookmarks/links have been alive. If I don't find a breakthrough in a couple of days, I will switch to Foxit.
Anyhow, thank you for your support.

  • Windows 7, Office 2007, Adobe Acrobat cs3 - will not create a .pdf from word doc

I can not create a .PDF file from a 2007 word.docx file.  I have tried a few different word docs, including a document I created just to trouble shoot with.
I tried opening the .docx in Word and then going PRINT - ADOBE PDF.  When I do this 'nothing' happens. No dialogue box opens, nada.
When I open Adobe Acrobat and try to 'create' I get this error: "Adobe acrobat could not open"name.docx" because it is not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged...".

  • Distiller will not create a .pdf file

Yesterday, I noticed—out-of-the-clear-blue-sky— that whenever I tried distilling a layout file in .eps, I kept getting 'Error' messages whenever I tried Distilling anything and Distiller wouldn't create a .pdf file!
    This is what I recieved.

I even tried using an .eps file that I had created a .pdf file, from Distiller, on the previous day, and that wouldn't work either. So whats going on?
I finally got fed up and just uninstalled Acrobat and Distiller, and reinstalled it, and that didn't work either. My Acrobat also won't manually update now. I keep getting a "Update Internal Error." This also kept happening after I reinstalled it.
I need to use my Distiller in order to get a Press Quality .pdf.
    I'm operating on a Mac OS X 10.5.8
I'd appreciate any help I can get.

Sounds like an EPS with preview? Not suitable. Use postscript for printing, not EPS.
