PDF Printing  APEX 3.2.1  (APACHE FOP) which OC4J version  for Oracle 11g?

I am using APEX 3.2.1 on Oracle 11.g (under windows XP)
I want to test PDF printing (in advanced turorial) with standard config ( APACHE FOP no Oracle BI publisher).
When I look oracle doc : http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html)
prerequisites for installing WAR file (Installing and Configuring Apache FOP) imply downlad for Oracle Containers for J2EE (10.1.3.2) ,
once there : http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/ias/htdocs/utilsoft.html)
the accessed page seems restricted to Oracle Application Server 10g Software Downloads.
My question : is the last Version (10.1.3.5.0 : Oracle Containers for J2EE 10g (OC4J) (build #090727, 91 MB) - J2EE 1.4 compatible with EJB 3.0 / JPA 1.0 support ) also VALID for Oracle 11g ?

I just installed a similar setup with the following software combination and it works.
win32_11gR1_database.zip
oc4j_extended_101350.zip
jdk-1_5_0_22-windows-i586-p.exe

  • PDF Printing with XSL-FO and Apache FOP

Can anyone show me in the right direction for this? I've been hitting a wall for the past 2 weeks or so and it's really starting to infuriate me. How am I supposed to work this out? Where do I start? Let's say I create a layout file with a WYSIWYG XSL editor, in what format do I export it? XSL, XSLT or XSL-FO? I figured it was XSL-FO, but who knows. I tried them all anyways, but nothing seems to work. I seem to be missing a step or something, 'cause something's definitely not right.
I created a report query (which actually contains two queries):

    Best regards,
    Mathieu

    Hello Mathieu
i assume that the default PDF printing is working, but that you want to create some better looking reports and therefore use a different non-generic XSL-FO.
You can do several things in Apex but you can use the Apache-Fop conversion also indepent from Apex.
    What you need is:
    1) An XML (Data) File. You can get it from your report query when you say export it to XML.
    2) The XSL-FO (Layout) file. THis is the processing instruction that says how convert the XML Data into an XML-FO. You can create it manually or with some tool.
    3) The next step is to render the XML-FO into any output format (pdf, rtf, html)
The creation of the XML-FO and of the PDF are done by the apache fop converter (cocoon or Batik framework if I remember correctly) in a single process but you can influence it so that both steps are done separately. See also: http://xmlgraphics.apache.org/fop/0.95/running.html
The advantage is that you usually get much better error messages from the single steps.
My recommendation would be to do all the steps with a very basic report first.
Then gradually improve the complexity of the report, the data and the layout.

  • InDesign CS6: Is it possible to create a pdf in which the version for printing is different from that on the screen?

    hello,
    Everything is in the title!
The idea is to make a pdf that I send to clients by email, very graphic with colored backgrounds but when printed, the background becomes white to save ink. Similarly to the change of color of the text.
For example, on the screen when I open a pdf I see white text on a blue background but the impression we see black text on white background.
    thank you

    hi Bob,
With a little delay & my apologies, anyway, after a little test, your solution works very well. thx!!
A more flexible solution was given to me on the French forum by Mr. JR Boulay
"We need to generate 2 PDF, one with color and one in black and white. Open the PDF with Acrobat b & w and in the layers palette ask "Import as Layer" color PDF.
Who will come on top. In the Layer Properties it only remains to define the PDF / color layer as "not printable."
It will just be careful that the color PDF has no white background because in PDF it means transparency and thus we see through ...
(Just use black backgrounds at 1% to fix this problem). "

    Rene,
In what way is this relevant?Because at this point I know next to nothing about your architecture, personally the way I diagnose problems is to gather as much information (that I believe to be relevant) before I suggest something.
The question about which edition of the DB you have was to establish whether you already have EM installed (if you were running XE then you wouldn't have and would need to install the OC4J yourself). The thought I had was whether you already had a running EM that was conflicting with the OC4J that you had also installed.
Sorry if my question offended you in some way...I can't see why though.
    John.

  • PDF PRINTING using Apache FOP and Oracle Containers for J2EE

    Hi,
I am having major confusion about the pdf printing in Oracle XE and Apex 3.1.2.00.02
It clearly states that this is an available option on the Oracle website.
According to Apex there are two options for printing report regions.
    Standard - which is free
Advanced - which uses BI and requires a licence
Standard requires me to have Apache FOP (which is provided by Oracle in the Apex release) and Oracle Containers for J2EE (OC4J)
Where my understanding of all this falls down is the part where I am downloading the Oracle Containers for J2EE and the license agreement states this cannot be used in a production system (only as a protptype). Can anyone clarify this? This is surely a required componenet and for the standard report printing which is supposed to be free.
My problem is that I need to have a database system on a laptop that will go off site for a number of weeks. We need report printing options.
Can anyone help with this. im desperate.
    Kind regards
    colin mclay

no not yet with Application Server.
I have tried to compare the settings to another installation with a separeted oc4j as described in the howto. But at the moment i found no mistakes.
If i call the url adresse like:
    http://localhost:18101/fop/apex_fop.jsp
    i get:
    500 Internal Server Error
    Servlet error: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: fop.apex__fop
I installed it another time with these settings:
Web Anwendung= .../fop.war (selected war file from apex install directory)
    Anwendungsname= fop
    URL zuordnen= /fop
I would like to know if its possible to use the fop.war out of apex install directory with the Application server? In the standalone version (as described in howto) it works. But if you install it there you don't need to define an URL.
Is the URL /fop correct or what do i have to insert there?

  • APEX 4.1 - APACHE FOP PDF generation problem.

    Hi all,
I'm having problem with PDF generation using APACH FOP on OC4J.
When I test my print server as described here:
    http://marcsewtz.blogspot.com/2008/06/heres-another-posting-on-pdf-printing.html
everything works without problem. But when I upload my Layout to APEX and try to generate PDF from apex I'm getting error:

I could see similar post here:
Handling Special characters in call to apex_util.download_print_document
But it doesn't explain my case as it's crashing even when I generate empty pdf(no data so no special characters, only empty XML file with no data should be sent to print server)
Is there any way to see what xml is sent do print server for processing? That could eventually show where is a problem.
    Palo

My mistake, there was really an "&" character in my template. now when I replaced it with %26 it works.
However I would be still interested if there is a way to see what data is APEX engine sending to print server cause it will help me to find this kind of errors.

  • Tomcat/Cocoon/APEX PDF printing. Another issue

    Hi All,
I am trying to implement my own custom report layout for the following simple Report query
    select e.DEPTNO, d.DNAME, d.LOC, e.ENAME, e.JOB
    from emp e, dept d
    where e.deptno = d.deptno
    The steps are the following
    1. Create Report Query
    2. Download XML file
    3. Use Stylus Studio to create XSL-FO (XSLT 2.0) based on XML data downloaded in
    previous step.
    4. Go back to Report query and upload XSL-FO file to APEX (layout name 'MyLayout' is also specified).
    Finish Report Query creation
    5. Enter Report Query again, select report layout 'MyLayout' and select Test Report
The result is a failure with some java cocoon exception:
org.apache.cocoon.ProcessingException: Unknown request object encountered named template : null
    Cocoon stacktrace[hide]
    Exception in StreamGenerator.generate() context://fop_post/sitemap.xmap - 17:32 <map:serialize type="xml">

    context://sitemap.xmap - 1034:92 <map:mount>
It seems to me that XSL-FO that I created for this layout is rejected somehow by APEX and not passed to Coccon at all.
Guys, what am I doing wrong ? I will appreciate any help.
    Regards,
    Vadim

    Hi Mike,
My standard printing is working nicely. That's the custom reporting that I experience problems with.
After 8 hours of googling and 4 cups of coffee I figured out where the problem was. When you define XSL-FO file you need to 'escape' every occurence of % sign. For example you cannot define width= "100%" because APEX will pass this unchanged to Tomcat and Tomcat in turn will reject this but still passing NULL template pointer to Cocoon. Taking into consideration very poor logging capabilities one can spend hours trying to fugure out what is hapenning. APEX should be smart enough to escape characters or at least there should be a doco somewhere listing the rules you need to follow whem creating FO stylesheets.
I must admit that the whole APEX PDF printing using Tomcat/Cocoon (and probably Fop because that's what used by Cocoon behind the scene anyway) is unfortunately a hack. Reporting does not have to be that complex.
I would be extremely grateful if somebody can tell me what sort of XML tool is best suited to generate XSL-FO files that can be easily understood by APEX/Tomcat/Cocoon.
    Regards,
    Vadim

  • Apex PDF printing in 11g

    Dear,
I have Oracle 11g and APEX in Win XP machine. EM also configured.
To get PDF printing in APEX, I should install Apache FOP.
As per the document for PDF printing configuration, I am not getting the EM console for OC4J. (for reports and forms, OC4J is available in the same machine)
So I should install Standalone OC4J (in the same machine). My doubts are
    Is OC4J 10g Standalone enough for Oracle 11g? (I could not find a OC4J 11g download)
From documnets I found that this OC4J installation will install one HTTP server also. Is this conflict with any of the settings for EM or APEX?
Is the EM which will be installed with OC4J standalone conflict with already installed EM for database? Or any method is there to use the Database EM for OC4J also?
How to find out JAVA_HOME and J2EE_HOME?
All these installation I made using the OTN downloads.
    with regards
    -mathews

    Hi Mathews
This looks much easier than the manual configuration that I had to do.
To get to the OC4J config.......
Login to your App Server EM
Depending on what tier it is you will have various system components such as HTTP_Server, Web_Cache, home etc...
Click on home, to display OC4J page
    Click on Applications
    Click on Deploy WAR file
You should then be able to follow the rest of the instructions in the document.
    cheers,

Seems like the Java EE container is looking for the Java compiler. Try installing the Java Development Kit (JDK) and respecify your JAVA_HOME accordingly. HTH.

  • Is PDF output of more than one reports region with Apache FOP possible?

    Hi,
I'm evaluating the possibilities of PDF output by means of the Apache FOP. I've installed the standalone OC4J, deployed the fop.war and configured my APEX 3.2 installation according to the various guides I found. Now I can generate PDF output of a reports region.
I will have APEX pages containing more than one reports region. Is it possible to generate a PDF document of the whole page, not just of the individual reports regions? If so, then how?
    Thanks,
    Robert
On a sidenote: Does anyone know where I can find the licensing model and fees for the standalone OC4J? They don't seem to be included in the [price list|http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/technology-price-list.pdf].

    Hello Sue,
    >> The first report on Page 3 successfully opens Page 14 as a popup.
Please show us the code you are using for the popup link (it’s not the template that causes it to open as a popup. The template only styles the page once it rendered).

    Thanks Andy

    Hello,
Yes you have to do steps 4 or 5, those set up the servers that do the actual PDF rendering.
It's not as hard as it looks, at least if you are just setting it up for demo purposes.
There have been several links on setting up BI Publisher , there is a screencast of setup up FOP on OC4J
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/fop_war_viewlet_swf.html
and I have this screencast that shows setting up Cocoon to do the PDF rendering.

  • I installed CS6 on Mac Pro (10.9 software version). I don't see the Adobe PDF printer in the printer/fax section.  I can not figure how to create the PDF Printer.

I can not figure how to create a Adobe PDF Printer. Normally when you install the package ( CS6 Standard for Mac Pro) the installer creates the PDF printer automatically. In the System Preferences under the Printer/Fax I don't see the PDF printer. How do you create the PDF printer.
    Thanks,

did you install acrobat x and does it work as expected?

  • PDF printer not working in Outlook 2013

I have the PDF printer add in activated, but when I try to use the PDF printer in Outlook 2013, nothing happens.
The program turns for a while, but then closes without the PDF file being created.
Used to work without problem for earlier versions of Outlook.

You probably need to upgrade. According to the compatibility table (
    https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/compatible-web-browsers-pdfmaker-applications.html)
Outlook 2013 is compatible with Acrobat XI (11.0.1) or higher only.
